I wanna run a pure physical build, but still have a weapon buff of some sort.

Is it better to invest in int for CMW, or to go faith for LB/DMB/DB?

Also which school will give me more utility? (Tears of Denial, Spook, etc).

It's not worth going for spell-based buffs unless you go all the way to max caster stats. The strength of a buff is based on the spell buff of the catalyst used, and the spell buff is based on how much Int/Fai you have.

If you can only meet the base requirements for a buff, odds are that a resin/bundle will provide more damage without forcing you to invest in stats.

Running a pure physical build with a dedicated spell weapon buff is kind of hard since you want 60 INT or FAI for maximum power buffs. 40 level ones are better then resins slightly but not enough to make the investment worth it. The best way to go is putting STR up to 26 and then your buff stat to 60 since that gives you 40 effective physical scaling two handed which is what makes buffed Bident so great along with its innate Faith scaling.

As far as which buff you want, CMW on a 60 INT Court Staff will technically outdamage a 60 Faith Yorshka's with DMB by 2 points of AR. 60 Faith Dark Blade is also a great option since most players are weakest to dark.

More or less. That's the whole problem with spellsword/hybrid builds in DaS3, you need to put points into way too many areas in order for it to be worthwhile (Vigor to not die, Attunement for FP, Endurance for swinging your weapon and rolling, Vit if you're rolling a Str weapon that weighs a fuckton and that also requires armor for poise, Str and Dex for physical damage and casting speed, and Int and Fai for getting non-shitty buff values). So the only way to make it work and stay under SL120 is to just go pure caster and get baseline values for physical stats.

PChain helps with this a bit since even as a caster you can get 10 free levels in Vigor and Endurance. But the other problem is that casters also require a bunch of rings in order to maximize their damage output. So one ring slot that you spend on stats is one ring slot that you're not using to boost your spell damage.

What the fuck anon, that's way above the 24 of most casters and not even 30 for an extra slot. Drop it down to 24, that also puts you right at 125 to be at the high end of the general meta. If you want to go over might as well put the points in something more useful like VIT or END.

Also you need way more poise for the Tinder, with that amount you can't even tank a Straight Sword 1HR1 with a 2HR1. Drop the Greatsword of Judgement and just hotswap to it when you want to use it and get better armor. You want at least 21.43 poise to tank Curved Sword, Axe, Katana and Spear 2HR1s, and 27.04 if you want to tank running 2HR1s from all those weapons.

What is the blody point of the Corvian Scythe WA, anyway? I don't get it. A tiny bit of extra damage in exchange for being super parry bait.

This should let you tank all the relevant small weapons while you have the range and spells to deal with greatswords and ultras. Also replaced GSA with Great Heavy Soul Arrow and Mercury with Great Farron Dart since those will be far more useful to you on average.

The running R1s were barely nerfed and it got huge buffs to its regular R1 and Stance R1 attacks like every katana. 1HR1 Washing Poles have even more insane range than they did pre-TRC, and with the Sharp infusion changes an 80 Dex Pole will have barely any less damage than the Chaos Blade without any of the latters weaknesses such as not hurting yourself on hit and being buffable.

You need 41.65 poise with a halberd to hyper armor through Straight Swords, Curved Swords, Katanas, Axes, Spears, Pikes, Reapers, Whips, Claws, and Unarmed and Demon's Fist.

The only things you can poise through with 30 is thrusting swords and the caestus.

Halberds require a lot more poise than any other weapons with hyper armor frames.

Usually I use it like a parry, except it doesn't rely on them attacking. Throw out an urn or lightning arrow and stake their ass when they come for the parry

I'm getting shrekt by a herd of knights in a church right after Undead parish. I conjured up a gorillion souls with cheat engine, added a lot of stats but it's like they have no effect at all.

Is there some kind of mod that lets you keep souls after dying? Starting at the bonfire with respawned enemies is frustrating enough.

The dying mechanic is not like in, say, Hotline Miami, where you just get right back into the action. In DS it involves a grueling path back to the place where you died. Doesn't help that the controls are more stiff than in any game I've ever played.

Honestly, if you're actually serious, then you're cute as fuck but I don't think you really understand the Soulslike genre. The games are very punishing, but generally very fair. If you die, it's because you fucked up, and your choices are to either get better or quit. These games are actually fairly middling in terms of true difficult, the 'hard' label goes to shit like Touhou, Kaizo Platformers, and other such bullshit. There are the occasional 'gotcha!' moment, but you're expected to fail until you get good enough to make it to the end and kill the boss with the resources you're given.

The controls feel clunky because they're designed based on a regime of risk versus reward. You have to commit to your actions, so making the wrong decision has larger consequences. Again, you fuck up, the game punishes you. That's how it works. You can't just dance around like a fucking fairy and swing your super greatsword in a sixteen hit combo. You get one swing that eats half your stamina, then another swing. They have significant windup before actually doing anything. Get hit mid swing? Eat shit, should have timed and spaced it better, you lose health. Hope you have enough estus left for the boss.

It really is a matter of getting good. Maybe if you approach the encounter (And this goes for every single area in the game) with a little caution and critical thinking, rather than trying and failing to smash it down by ramming your head into it, you'd have more success. I mean, caution alone won't get you there, but that's where gitting gud comes into play.

Dark Souls has fuck-all story. It has quite a lot of lore and amazing atmosphere,
but no story to speak of whatsoever.

The Dark ending was supposed to break the cycle, but DaS2 fucked that up. So now fire or dark keeps the cycle going, because even if the fire goes out, it will restart spontaneously at some point. Fag here who's only played Demon's Souls, Bloodborne (On PS3 and PS4 respectively) and Dark Souls once on PC a long time ago. About to do a playthrough of the Dark Souls trilogy.

Should I play on console or PC? Depends on if you've got a decent PC.
On a good PC and DSfix you can enjoy up to 60 fps framerate and Blighttown on PS3 is something horrible.

I have a fairly middling PC that can run DS1 and DS2 fine but struggles with DS3 so I played that mostly on PS4.

Hackers are a thing on the PC version of Souls so if having smooth framerate(if you've the hardware for it), likely lower price, free online and better graphics isn't that big of a deal for you, the console versions are probably a safer bet.

If you want to play in /dsg/ fight clubs, PC people are probably the majority in here for DS2 and 3.

One of the nicer aspects of DS2 is even after you have "finished" a build there is still a hell of a lot of game to go and you can play around with the build outside the final boss and redoing old areas.
DS1 you would would usually be missing either some vigor/end/str/dex/attunement from complete build by the time you got the 4th lord soul DS2 you have a pretty solid amount of everything and are just pumping stats for extra variety rather than your core stats, that's usually before hitting the DLCs

Does anyone have any insane ideas for DS2 challenge runs? I just finished a torch melee only run (or as much of it as was possible) and I'm seriously not sure where to go from here.

Manus was either called like that because he created the Abyss before dying/being buried/whatever or (more likely) because his awakening caused a massive abyss infestation in the area, drenching the town in abyssal goop and turning men into discoballs

To them, Manus was the progenitor of the Abyss that they were sinking into.

This >>180086379, but "Father of the Abyss" could be from the players perspective(what the gods want you to know) because most people didnt know about the Pygmys (except Oolacilie for example) and their coexistence with Abyss, hence father of the Abyss because it seems like he created it back then Oolacile.
Fits to Dark Souls imo, the player does not know everything and learns it step by step and if NPC's in Dark Souls 1 tell you, he is the father, then you have to believe it until you learn the truth in 3.
But it is possible too that Manus created the Abyss long time ago during the Pygmys Era, then was defeated/died and was burried in Oolacile until his awakening caused an Abyss Explosion.
