The gachas which offer 40 pulls for 500 gems are technically the best deal, and apparently come with a guaranteed 5* familiar, so I guess I'd say that, except that 500 is a lot to save up for in the first place. Otherwise I'd say aim for whatever gachas are discounted (almost every gacha has a first-time discount where you can get ten pulls for 125 gems and one pull for 12 gems).

So wait, you got a 5* Rosalie right off the bat? That's pretty good. For a beginning player, I'd say focus on doing the story quests or event quests until you level up a bit, so that team cost won't be an issue. I assume you already know where to find the English guide for the game?

Yeah, the guide goes into detail on pretty much anything and how it works. High rarity units aren't too important, I don't think. 3* units should be enough for the easier difficulties and then 4* will usually suffice on the higher difficulties, in terms of just clearing them and getting S ranks for score and combo. 5* units would be good for doing score attacks and stuff, but even then it depends on the shot types in particular.

I've been playing Mahou Otome for a long time now. Feel free to come here and ask questions if you've got 'em.

Regular ultra 1.5 is actually harder, there isn't a single clear on any of the leaderboards, steam or 360. Ultra max has the exact same patterns as non-max, except you start at full power with max options, have only 1 bomb and autobomb that consumes all bombs.

1.5 kinda sucks though, the slowdown is retarded, constantly going on/off on a lot of attacks, many attacks have added slowdown so they're a joke and others have slowdown removed entirely for no reason. The TLB final is even worse than in 1.0, the only way I've seen anyone beat it was by using the misdirection trick while the 1.0 final attack is perfectly dodgeable.

1) The patterns are exactly the same, MAX doesn't have anything harder but you start with full power and all options on MAX, on regular you start with 2 options and level 2 power I believe, making early stages on MAX an absolute joke

2) Autobomb is better than regular bomb, even if you have 3 of them in the second case, the autobomb is just better (and you can still pick up more than 1 bomb to save them up)
The bomb shield is also different when you autobomb, which makes pulling off the TLB final trick easier, as you can suicide a bit faster on MAX by using the autobomb

Though it still feels like no one cleared ultra 1.5 yet only because the game is shit and no one wants to play it, not because it's that much harder than MAX.

Ikaruga has a myriad of flaws that I can't understand why people seem to ignore. Scoring system is frankly crap; colour-based enemy chaining means you have to perfectly shoot in the order Treasure wants you to, unless you want to break your chain by shooting whatever you feel like (or the even lamer option of having to let enemies pass you by because you're afraid of getting a broken chain). So prepare to play like a robot if you ever want to score well in Ikaruga, where routes are even more strict and less interesting than Dodonpachi. But hey, at least it's not as bad as Silvergun's scoring. It also has the infamy of being called super difficult because the game gives you absolutely no items once, so the only way to get extends is first learning the ins and outs of the game in order to score well. However, by then you should be able to no-miss Ikaruga anyways, so what was the point in learning? Now the polarity mechanics are awful because swapping colour invalidates practically all bullet patterns in the game, since you can just absorb everything in your way rendering whatever looks impossible meaningless. This seems neat at first until it becomes a chore to soak up every bullet on screen to raise your score, after you cope with the fact that it turns survival play into a boring cakewalk. Boss designs are rubbish save for the first and last dudes. Mooks have no life to them; most don't even shoot at you and simply drift away. This plus the colour-based chaining system makes it feel more like playing a puzzle game instead of an actual shump. Not to mention the fact that it's grossly overrated due to its OST and graphics (if you dig sepia tones making backgrounds look like dogshit) by casuals who hardly even play shumps. Ikaruga's simply a poor game that for some reason has a cult following that loves to bitch at you if you ever happen to question the quality of their beloved masterpiece.

Go into options and turn wait off and everything to defaults (medium/hitbox to normal) as they made it a step easier on defaults aside from that it's accurate. It depends on your break route. If you utilize the cancels from entering break mode, entering double break, and exiting double break well and kill bosses with a full lock-on, then double breaking during bosses is advantageous for score and kills bosses more smoothly, enabling you to cancel skip dangerous attacks and finish boss phases faster with Double Break bonus damage. Going into Double Break carries risk, though, as you can't use a bomb while in Double Break and the boss's attacks are sped up during it - if your break route is well thought out this shouldn't be a big problem, but if you're not sure it might be better to stick to regular Break and bombs for safety.
