The best option for getting up at the wall if you don't a read on your opponent is to just stand and block until they give you dn opening. It's better to eat a low or two then to crouch and take another wallsplat combo.

q1- Stand up asap. Guessing between high/low is the wrong approach, in Tekken standing still blocks high/mid, and lows are generally either of no consequence (10-20 damage singular pokes), or slow as fuck launchers, which are perfectly reactable. Block mid/high, react to block lows, crouch under highs if you have the hard read for punishes.

q3- Just do it. There's no secrte to not caring about wins/ranks, you just man up and stop letting the numbers affect you. Consciously stop yourself from having thoughts like "oh man that guy way more wins than I do" or "i'm about to rank up, i better not choke!" and psyche yourself out. When you notice yourself having those thoughts, interrupt them and remind yourself that you're not allowed to do it, and eventually you'll stop caring.

His f3 tracks, crushes lows, is safe and tailspins on juggles. His launcher is T6 Lars levels of retarded. His starburst f1+2 covers half the god damn screen, is completely safe, is a true combo and tailspins even without a counter hit and he can get it back super easily.
Really, his only flaw is his shitty low game but everything else is insanely good.

As a Tekken newbie who's coming from 2D anime games and been lurking this thread and I've been having trouble wondering how can a character be considered 'high IQ and dishonest or vice versa'?

After a bit of studying I think I have the definitions of 'high/low IQ' and 'honest/dishonest' correct?

'High IQ' characters are those who require the player to be more 'knowledgeable' of the game in general (their character, their opponent's character(s), the game's overall mechanics, etc.) and also required to be able to successfully apply that knowledge in order to win. Other factors that make them 'high IQ' is the fact that it can be somewhat difficult to get a grasp on how the character plays at first, every move that the player uses needs to have some thought put into them first, and they may or may not have combos that aren't intuitive to confirm.

Low IQ characters on the other hand, are pretty much 'jump in and play' type of characters. You will more or less get a good handle of how the character plays faster than 'High IQ characters' and will probably acquire early wins due to their easy to understand playstyle. Other factors that contribute to 'low IQ' characters being in this category is that they may have a few moves that they can unwittingly throw out (without putting any thought in them) and they can still win a few exchanges.

Honest characters are those whose attacks are considered to be transparent to their opponents. Almost everything they throw out is straightforward.

Dishonest characters on the other hand are unorthodox characters who have gimmicks that can throw their opponents off. It is not uncommon to see a player playing a dishonest character nab victory simply because their opponent did not study their character or because they just flat out don't know their toolset. (1/2)

Since I'm coming from 2D anime fighting games, I suppose an example I can use is Ragna and Izayoi from BlazBlue:

If my definitions are correct, Ragna would be a 'Low IQ' but 'honest' character simply for the fact that he has pokes that he can just throw out and win exchanges that are also easy to confirm into. Even so, his normals are pretty straightforward so there is almost no trickery involved.

Izayoi on the other hand would be a 'high IQ dishonest' character. Unlike Ragna, Izayoi has normals that can be awkward for first timers jumping in. One bad whiff puts her in a bad situation and in previous versions, it was considered hard to confirm combos with her. However, Izayoi has nigh unreactable mixups that can throw off the opponent and nab some easy wins if her opponent doesn't know how to block.

I think I got the definitions down? If I got anything wrong let me know.

Meme-terms or not, I think there is some 'truth' in them that applies to all fighting games in general.
