The people behind the Celatid, though they had modelling support from Stenchfury.
They also did those Archon variants etc.
>>179902842
Really? Have they actually said what? And is it just more variants of existing xenos or are they doing more interesting things like the Celatid? Or Bureau Ports?
Xcom interceptor remake when? They can get the ace combat people on it

Oh well.
>advent mec wipes squad on roof via grenade + fall damage + burning
>>179907621
Just wait I can't say anymore.
>>179904630
What could they do to fix this? Part of the reason I don't use a load of cosmetics is to keep the memory usage down but also because I hate having to fix every soldier in my barracks after upgrading an armour tier
I was thinking maybe a 'preset' function, ie instead of having to select the limbs separatley , you just select from a list what look you're going for. For example you're using a MW2 SAS pack with four different variants, you can just select one of the four variants and it sticks, the game doesn't try to assign new limbs after upgrading
>>179907642
Why did you group them all together when there was a MEC there?
>>179908503
Some mods have an option in the settings where you can set how often certain cosmetics are selected for recruits, but not all mods are there and I don't even know if it does anything. I really wish everyone who makes cosmetics just conformed to a standard system of limbs and stuff where you don't get invisible bits on certain combinations of mods, which I realize is tough/impossible due to using ported models, but it's really a pain in the ass and limits customization.

>>179908978
IIRC that only works for newly obtained recruits, I really wish all mods had it though, at least you can turn it off for Alien Hunters and Anarchys Children
I fucking love how they make it feel so satisfying to hit the aliens in this game. They fly away, lots of blood and great sound from the guns. Only wish they made the strike punt enemies across the map like the EW mechs did.
Man sparks are just more boring than mechs in general.

>still no SHIV mode

>>179908978
>>179908503
I think there is one for the invisible head already, but basically this can be fixed by setting it so that there is one mod with all the invisible body parts and every cosmetic mod has a notice that it is required to have this mod in order for their mod to work. That one mod can have the option for how often it appears set to zero, and even if that doesn't completely stop it, having it only be one option out of a hundred means it likely won't appear.

if you want to move it to another PC, all you do is just move the folder to the new PC and delete the 'data' folder (it generates it when you first run it, contains all the directory data).
I'm sure there are later version available but I've used CS5 for years and it's just the one I prefer to use (especially since I've had this portable one for ages).
If it don't work I do also have an installer-version.

Jake please don't disappoint
About to get XCOM 2. Beat EU and EW.
Expansions. Are they worth it? I hear they throw the balance out of whack... But I'm afraid I'll need them for a number of mods.
Deluxe or regular?
I'm excited for that new mission modifier where you can only bring 3 soldiers and there are less enemies, sometimes I just want to have a simple firefight without having to worry about a full squad.
Steam sale for XCOM 2 is over but Amazon has it for a low price right now.
>>179944946
Just pick them up in one pack desu. Some people had complaints about the, but they are all getting re-balanced and tweaked for the expansion and of course mods.
>>179944946
The DLC doesn't really add anything worth having, and like 99% of mods are made without those in mind. I have them but I just activate them and then ignore the missions so they're basically disabled because I've heard how useless the Spark is and I don't want to deal with the Ruler shit, although I'm interested in their rebalance in the expansion.
>>179945013
Huh. I'm excited for it, but for the opposite reason - I wouldn't mind having to do occasional stealth missions.
>people loved the boss dlc so much, let's make a whole xpac if it
Guess this stuff was too far along to change so they just dump more of this shit in.
>>179946608
You realize that they already confirmed that Chosen won't have ruler reactions and that rulers are getting nerfed (only reacting to attacks and movement), right?
>>179946608

The number will go up once the Expansion hits. Some people that would have been playing now don't want to burn themselves out on the game, myself included. Finding other things to pass the time and then before I know it, it will be sweet sweet xcom 2 time.
>>179944946
None of the cosmetic dlc's are important unless you want those & you can get by just fine without either DLC. Shen's last gift is the best of the bunch & there's a good amount of SPARK mods, they're getting rebalanced & Julian is fantastic. Alien hunters is some monsterhunter armor & adds some difficulty.
>tfw 250 hours in Enemy Within and haven't touched XCOM 2 that I bought for 50% off months ago
Finally beat my first ironman long war campaign and feels good man. Should I play vanilla XCOM 2 or jump into LW2? I never even completed EW's vanilla campaign since the game becomes stupid easy, 95% of my time was spent in LW.
>>179952056
I'd play 2 vanilla at least until midway just to get your bearings. 250 hours isn't that much for EW/LW anyway, so you can come back to it later.
>>179952471
Yeah maybe I'll play vanilla on very hard since I think I was playing on Classic or whatever for the EW campaign.
>>179952793
Don't play on Legend your first time. It's like Long War without all the addons. Everything takes three times as long and soldiers who get wounded are out for a month or more. Enemies get like an extra pip of health and maybe armor but most of the diffiuclty comes from outright tripling how long things take. I hope you like waiting 40 days to clear a room on the second fucking floor.
Play on Commander and your game will be a lot more enjoyable and less tedious.

>>179954289
Why you playing impossible for your first time though?
>>179954550
I always play at the highest difficulty for every game that I play. It doesn't always work out so well, but that's just how I prefer to play my games.
If Jake wanted to stop overwatch crawling he could've just made the codex a FL1 enemy or replacement for the advent trooper
>>179955469
I mean I also "prefer" to play games on the highest difficulty but not when the developer literally stresses to complete the game on a lower difficulty first. I guess I just lack the autism gene.

>>179955716
I really don't regret my decision, I tried playing it on lower difficulties and it was too easy. Felt like I wasn't being punished for my mistakes and wasn't learning anything. It wasn't even fun for me tbqh
Can someone recommend me a game like XCOM?
I've tried:
Darkest Dungeon: I don't like the "treadmill of RNG feeling" I find it to basically be a game that just shoves the RNG in your face and you may as well have a gas pedal that you just ease the throttle back and forth or go in reverse a little until you win. I just got numb to caring about my characters deaths or problems, then got bored halfway through.
City of Mordeheim: A game loaded with both good and bad game design. I was charmed when my rat man got his shield arm cut off, but gained a 20% doge chance. The UI and clunky way of movement made me uninstall when I had to transport gunpowder around. Also the battle felt like lifeless strategy of "force a favorable trade, then watch the locked-in battle play out"
----
Why is XCOM so perfect? No other Permadeath, Investment RNG-RPG comes close for me so far.
>>179956120
I just got a physical copy, discs activate through Steam.
>>179957413
Long war isn't balanced like a regular game. Normal and Impossible play very similarly but the big difference is the rate of alien advancement and the resources you get from missions.

>>179956120
God that sucks man. Hope you get that sorted out soon. I remembered it was on sale recently, so I was going to be nice and gift you it. But sale is already over.
I can't regale you with any tales as of the current, my campaigns were never too memorable. But at least I can tell you about the DLC. Both of them were very mediocre. Hunters has new weapons, but they are very OP and you can get them pretty much at the start of the game for free if you want to do the story missions. If not, then you will need to make them yourself for a fair bit of money. The Rulers themselves will either be a bitch or they will be your bitch. Weapons you get were made to fight them, so they can be stunned twice as easily from two of the weapons and the frost bomb holds them in place for a few actions, which is nice if you don't want them to escape.
Sparks are kind of eh, you get a free one from the story mission, but they can't measure up to your human troops.
I think what you should do is play through complete vanilla, no DLC and then once the expansion hits, go full DLC. It's all being changed to incorporate the expansion anyway.
>>179958090
Thanks man, I hope I get my Ay Lmaos soon.

>>179957724
I've been spending alot of time on the shitter thinking about how absurd it is that there are no games like xcom without being literal xcom clones (xenonauts)
>>179957838
There are pretty significant differences between normal/impossible in tactical mode. It genuinely is a lot easier because aliens have less aim, less health, less damage, and drones/floaters have less defense, which itself is huge
I remember the aliens also did retarded shit more often, but maybe they just did the same retarded shit and I attributed that to lower difficulties. I also figured that there were less aliens per mission due to less resource generation or whatever, but maybe I was imagining things.
here's the differences, according to the wiki
Impossible
Tactical
Unchanged from brutal difficulty:
All enemies have +10 aim.
Thin men gain extra +5 aim. (+15 total)
Outsiders gain extra +10 aim. (+20 total)
Floaters have 6 base HP up from 5.
Mutons have 10 base HP up from 8.
Drones have 4 base HP up from 3.
Zombies have 15 base HP up from 12.
All exalt troops gain +2 base HP.
Ethereals and Sectoid commanders gain +20 will.
Uber Ethereal gains +20 will.
Changes in impossible:
All non-mechanical enemies but sectoids and zombies gain +5 will. (Adding a total of +25 will to Ethereals and Sectoid commanders)
Sectoids have 4 base HP up from 3.
Muton berserkers have 25 base HP up from 22.
Seekers have 5 base HP up from 4.
Mechtoids have 30 base HP up from 25.
Cyberdiscs have 23 base HP up from 18.
Heavy Floaters gain +1 mobility.
Uber Ethereal gains +10 def.
"Easy aliens" gain +1 base damage (Sectoids, Floaters, Thin Men, Mutons, ballistic EXALT, seekers, chryssalids, zombies, sectoid commanders, outsiders).
"Hard aliens" gain +2 base damage (Berserkers, Cyberdiscs, Mechtoids, Heavy Floaters, Muton Elites, Ethereals, Sectopods, EXALT Elites, Uber Ethereal).
Higher base HP, damage, and aim are the biggest things that really make the difference. Risk minimization becomes a bigger thing and you can't make poor tactical choices as often without being punished.
For someone who's new to Xcom 2, should I bother with the Long War mod for my first playthrough?

Oh boy, I love how Jake says he's going to take inspiration from the jumping mechanic. I can see this working really well in Xcom, too many times I wish soldiers could just boost another onto a higher elevation. Military tactics have this all the time, I'm surprised that it isn't in Xcom.
I'm also glad for Jake being able to play something Xcom like with his daughters, bonding like that over something you love is really nice.
>>179964681
How so? I've heard so little about Spectrum Green compared to LW2. It does look like there's definitely some changes but what are they?
>>179965498
I anticipate there could be a shiv type unit in XCOM 3 and it can get an upgrade that lets you catapult soldiers to higher elevation.
>>179965575
LOTS. First up, loot drops are mostly useless, instead you get drops directly from Advent when you kill them. You could get their gun, their armor, almost anything. Guns are now broken into four classes, Ballistic, Laser, Mag and Plasma and each of them has their own tier. Instead these gun classes do different things. Plasma shreds, Ballistic hits through armor, Laser has HIGH hit chance and Mag has high crit damage, but negative armor pen.
Enemies are buffed pretty extremely. Like HP gets insane and you can get shielded units in the first few months. Playthrough I am watching right now has almost every enemy as an Aegis unit, which has 5 shields, which regenerate by 2 every turn.

>>179968065
I'm pretty far into my LW2 campaign and I still sometimes forget to call in evac, I'll miss it by like 2 turns from when I should have called it.
>>179968143
I do full tacticool, I try to have as much variety as possible in terms of helmets vs no helmets, mix and matching arms, legs and torsos, and camoflage/armor color but still some of my guys can look similar because I am still limited between certain mods being compatible with each other. Thank god the modern warfare armor pack has updated to include female options because that really helps with variety. For tier 2 I switch to more futuristic things like Halo armor, and tier 3 I use that anons warden gear and stenchfury modular armor.

>>179969505
Didn't deny that it's retarded. That's just how it is. Basicly the idea is that you bring a variety of the different weapon types with you. So you have plasma to shred armor for your mag guys to finish off, Ballistic hits through the 1 armor guys no problem and you have someone with lasers so you can hit anything taking cover and far away. I think the hit chance it gives you is something insane, like 40 for a sniper rifle. It's rather stupid when Advent has them since it it means they have something like a 50% chance to hit you in full cover and flashbanged.

>>179969857
I personally like the idea of sidegrades, but that's just stupid. Especially the mag thing. Ballistic shouldn't be in play by the time you have MAG and Laser.
>>179970353
The thing is that there isn't any 'time' that it takes to get anything. You could get a weapon drop from any Advent and now you have a Mag rifle, or SMG, or a DMR, Shotgun. The boss could have a Plasma weapon and drop that.
Having any of these class of weapons auto unlocks you being able to research them, which allows you to build more. If you don't, then you can do the basic research for weapon fragments.
>>179970649
Oh yeah, forgot to say that, there is a BOSS unit in every map, usually guarding the objective. It can be a special unit upgraded, or it could be unique. All of them have an increased chance to drop their weapon or armor or other items. The tech captain I killed dropped an Xpad 3.0, which increased my hacking by 60.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the xcom2 mutons look like green lobsters?
>>179966049
>>179969857
The effects sound too strong. It sounds like you can get hardcountered as if you're playing an RPG without frequent loadout changes.
I mean, LW1 has the same basic idea. You need a long rifle for disks, a flak LMG for floaters, a shotgunand shredder for lids, shredder and heat for robots overall and holo for flyers overall. But there are a lot of modifiers with subtle effects, so you can be 100% prepared or 0% prepared but you can also be 60% prepared. And the defenses of the enemies are subtle too, in the first year you'll very rarely meet enemies with more than 2 DR, yet it is still worth bringing anti-DR tools.
>>179975516
Yeah, over all it's poorly balanced. When the guy I am watching isn't moving up and getting himself flanked like a retard, he's popping face off and killing everything because abilities have give him +3 extra crit damage and his plasma pistol hits for 3-8 damage and has a 40% crit chance. It's stupid and I don't know why he considers it anywhere close to the style of LW1.

>2 pods sit in the open, 3 advent troopers/variants with a sectoid and a stun drone
>all 4 rookies have LOS
>against my better judgement I set three on overwatch and take a 68 on the sectoid.
>5 damage.
>first overwatch procs on the sectoid, 5 damage. Sectoid is kill.
>second over watch procs on the trooper that was with it, 4 damage.
>second pod activates, and one of the two troopers is killed by and overwatch shot, leaving only one trooper and a drone.
>trooper runs behind one of my guys and does 3 damage, no biggie.
>rtd with a grenade, get the magic 4 damage to kill that cunt.
>one shot the stun drone through its armor.
Then the last pod of a captain and a trooper bumbled into an overwatch trap and got eliminated. The wound aside that was the best gatecrasher I've ever had. Did I just use all my luck on the first mission? Am I fucked /xcg/?

I'm haven't played it like the other anon but I'm skeptical, their mod description is all about the classical "more more more stuff". In the past I asked them if they have different gameplay ideas from vanilla and they didn't have an answer, so I get the impression that they're just throwing shit at the wall.
Is there a way to choose which class to upgrade a rookie into? I like XCOM but this has been my biggest gripe with EU/EW and 2.

My troops only get customization if they make it to Corporal and then again at every armor tier. I like to make them silly, like all sense of strict military code has gone out the window, but do keep some sort of continuity between classes. Snipers wear orange and as little clothes as possible and hats, Rangers wear silly hats with full face masks, psychics wear sunglasses and purple armor, specialists wear blue and tophats. Once they reach max rank, they go tactical the fuck up.

has anyone else never built psi-ops in xcom 2?
I have never researched psionics nor even really considered building for it since it is now an option rather than forced on you like it was in Enemy Within. It also doesn't help that psi-amps look kind of silly.

>>180067364
Psi is too crazy good. Aside from Dominate, Psi attacks can't be negated in anyway and schism means you deal increased damage against an alien. A schismed Gatekeeper vs a sharpshooter with Bluescreen rounds dies to a fanfire easily.
Null Lance is a free 10 damage attack in a line, Void Rift has a chance to cause panic, multi control and carries schism. Soulfire with perk can heal. They can be immune to fire, acid, poison and EXPLOSIONS, which means you don't have to worry about throwing a grenade at them. Stasis can lock down an alien you don't like for a turn.
They are too good to leave alone. I can't wait for the expansion so that when I play, I can hope that Psi gets an inspiration proc so it can research faster, because early Psi can be more powerful then Mag weapons.

Expansion will fix it
Holy shit I completed Gatecrasher, with only two deaths, 1 gravely wounded and 1 shaken soldier...
Wow this is a whiny post. Infiltration is not a difficult mecahnic to grasp and it certainly doesnt require "2-4 hours of reading". It requires about 3 minutes of reading the archives, which you were told to do on the mod page when you downloaded it (unless it actually takes you 3 hours to read that, in which case you have bigger problems.) Also the game doesn't have the "notorious Gate Crasher mission" which is a misson to blow up a statue. What it has, is an almost identical mission to the one opened LW1, which is to have a squad of rookies kill 3 pods of grunts.
I don't care if you like the mod or not, but this childish tantrum about why it is too hard because you might have to read a paragraph or two or use some reasoning, or just wait til the game litteraly explains itself to you (why are you losing supplies? An entire mission type shows up to explain it to you. How dense can you be?) is absurd. If reading, or using your brain for 3 minutes is too much for you, you're playing the wrong game. Go play COD.

What's the consensus on Final Mod Pack?
I'm thinking of trying it since vanilla XCom feels a bit like EW without Long War. It's fun but I miss the variety in choice that the mod gave me.
I want something like that for OpenXCom

That's one of the reasons I wanted the get Final Mod Pack. It's the same issue I have with EW.
Eventually you kinda just get to a level where "it's not hard. It's not easy. It's just... average". You might lose a rookie or two scouting but who cares?
I'm hoping FMP can fix the stagnation of difficulty. That and it has flamethrowers and dogs.

When are we going to get an X-Com esque TV series?
People would love it. It has action, conspiracy, extraterrestrial horror, everything.
People love the X-Files. People love shows like 24, The Expanse proves that there is a growing interest in scifi themes in tv series. People love Stargate.
Why dont we combine all of those together to make an amazing tv show?
Fuck, get HBO or Netflix on it, they're always hunting for new material.
>>180114191
It would probably take a decent amount of budget due to cgi for the weird aliens, although I think you could probably just do an XCOM style concept where there's only one type of aliens. Would be my dream show desu.
>>180114191
I mean Falling Skies is sort-of relevant and that came out a couple years ago
>>180114558
considering how large the budgets are for the kinds of shows HBO and Netflix produces(look at HBO's Rome. That shit was one million dollars and episode, if I'm not mistaken.)
I'm sure they could find a way to make somewhat decent looking ayys show up frequently.

I've actually been thinking about writing a screenplay for an XCOM TV show as I think it would translate really well in episodic format provided Alien aesthetics can be achieved like other anons said
I was thinking it would begin like EW, and over the course of 2 seasons it would follow XCOM fighting a losing battle, and the final espiode would be the remaining soldiers going to assault the first Alien base thinking it's all they need to do to end the war. whilst they are off-site it is revealed the remainder of the council have surrendered and cut all ties with XCOM, and only the Commander knows about it, (there is no Commandy one, I much prefer the idea of an old General agreeing to oversee the project instead of just going into retirement) and recieves an ultimatum: deliver the remainder of XCOMs fighters in exchange for the lives of everyone in the base.
The Commander, eventually believing that submission is preferable to extinction agrees to the terms (kind of like a cross between Saren and Breen) however the Aliens betray them and go about ransacking the base as soon as they have the location, the Commander is killed fighting them.
The XCOM squad find that the base they're assaulting was a red herring and they're ambushed by a shittonne of aliens, most are killed, some are captured and a handful manage to escape. Bigsky is able to extract the handful and they later return to a ruined base.
That would set the tone for the first couple of seasons, if a season 3 would be possible I'd go down the XCOM 2 route with a timeskip, season 3 would be based on the novel of getting the project back off the ground and introducing new characters, while season 4 and onwards would be about the events of the game, along the way reintroducing some of the old characters, though making them appear 20 years older would be tricky, stasis? Cryo?
Perhaps I'm autistic I'm not sure
>>180115362
>not white
dropped
>>180116167
Does "make utility items available" just not doing anything?
>>180116309
Dont you steal my idea boy.
But yeah that sounds cool.
Pic related was notes I was taking to help me get an idea of the series and for things to research for inspiration.
>last edit was December 15, 2014
Jesus christ.
>>180116309
The only trouble with going down this route is that being able to have all the sweet EW stuff might not be initially possible like MECs, but I suppose taking some liberties with the storyline could work, like MECs coming much later. Things like EXALT are definitley doable though.
I like the idea of XCOM facing a constant struggle because the Council nations either withold funding or send their average soldiers since they would rather selfishley keep their best for their own defence, with the second season having a couple of countries withdraw altogether followed later by more causing XCOM to struggle with technology, I would probably have the first laser rifle prototype be built right at the end to give off the impression that they're about to turn it all around, only for it to be lost/destroyed in either of the conflicts.
Shen would probably die in the base assault, as would the Commander, and Bradford would likely have a slightly bigger role during the book events eventually becoming the new Commander. Not sure about Vahlen though, Alien Hunters is a cool concept but I'm not sure how much sense it would really make
>>180116701
Well you've already made more progress than I have, if I can ever channel my autism to get started perhaps we couldcollaborate
Of course, all of this is assuming that getting the rights would be possible, I'm sure Jake would love the idea but convincing 2K to let it happen would be painful I'd imagine
>>180117171
>]
I wasnt thinking of it being a direct adaption. Just shamelessly inspired by XCOM, the XFiles and Stargate SG-1.
The initial idea I had, as far as I remember, was it follows the efforts of The Initiative(name pending), a pan-national para-military and investigative organization the likes of which the world ahs not seen. They are both the eyes, ears and sword of humankind, implanting agents everywhere that is deemed "problematic", and sending in squads to deal with "issues".
The main story would follow the team at Black Base(since they are in north america and I'd assume that people in north america would watch this. Might as well set it somewhere the audience knows intrinsically.) The main "types" of episodes would be investigation and subterfuge"think spy thrillers and x-files) and action(think gunfights and "securing of assets").
As the series goes on, the people at Black Base make a great discover that could turn the war around into our favor, and as such they begin to work with the other bases(which would give the show runners an excuse to set episodes in other countries, if the show becomes popular enough to allow for it in the budget. If not, meh.)
>>180118010
Yeah that works too, XCOM is definitley my preference, but worse case scenario and the rights can't be obtained then the whole project would likely become a shameless "ripoff"
Your idea is nice though, I do like a secret initiative theme
I too have always dreamed of an XCOM tv-show. Even the old XCOM UFO has all you need to make a show adaptation. Too bad with the state of television if HBO or netflix picked it up it would just become some strong independent minority tripe. Hulu is pretty good about not doing that kind of stuff though with their original productions.
It's just so much potential that will never be reached or considered.
>>180119969
One neat thing about an XCOM adaption is the fact that you could quite easily tick their "diversity" quota boxes since it's an organisation funded by a council of nations, you could quite easily fit in a range of cast members without it feeling like forced pandering
>Last few mission put all my good troops into the hospital for a few weeks
>Only have a pack of unused rookies left
>Have a blacksite mission queued up
>Fuck it lets do this
>It's in the jungle
>Rookies are already jittery
>Form a line and overwatch creep my way towards the base
>Come across a few pods and manage to take them down with only a few misses
>Moral is starting to rise
>Make it to the base's front door
>Suddenly a sectopod
>Hold the line boys!
>Grenades and cover fire but eventually it's brought down
>Everyone has taken heavy damage but they're still standing
>Just have to finish the mission, just have to plant the bomb
>Kick open the front door
>Hear the sound of a train in the distance
>It's coming closer
>Before they knew what was happening, the wall exploded and the Berserker Queen was in their midst and she was in heat

>>180137130

How does it compare to xenonauts?
>>180141981
I played a looong time ago, before I even played any other Xcom, so I can't really say. Read some steam reviews.
The part of the original UFO defense that I loved most was that every mission (at least at the start) felt like Normandy. Casualties guaranteed. It was bloody, but it was hugely enjoyable.
I've watched a few people play Xenonauts (which sells itself as the successor), and it seems like there is way less of the "casualties guaranteed" on the missions. Seems like if someone gets hit, they just medkit them back up, and the troop number is lower so they're not really expendable at all - but then unlike the new X-COM's, they don't have a personality/progression to match their importance. They're just run of the mill guys you don't really care about individually.
Putting me off getting it honestly - am I wrong in all this?
I'd be so happy if it still had that Normandy vibe that UFO defense gave, but I get the vibe that it doesn't.
>>180144974
Yeah, sorry, I think you're right about that. There are a lot of features devoted to customizing your soldiers and their outfits, implying you're going to keep them and they're going to survive.
You definitely have a few rookies that develop to become standout stars in your campaign, but it's not the same "casualties:high" vibe as it was in the first game.
There may be mods that restore that feeling, however.
How the fuck do reinforcements in Long War 2 work now? I haven't played since the original release but it's been saying Reinforcements Imminent for almost 6 turns now I think
>>180146642
Imminent just means re-reinforcements will be arriving, and it just does not want you to forget for the mission type, it changes to something else when reinforcements will arrive next turn.
>>180146642
That indicator just means you should expect them at some point. It will change color to yellow when reinforcements are 2 turns away, and red INCOMING when 1 turn away.
After a certain point ADVENT will drop reinforcements in constantly in an effort to overwhelm you.

Install the 1.13 mod/fan patch. Disable the Drassen counter attack. Play on Easy for your first game.
Your first Mercs are up to you but Wolf and Fox are a great pair and in general you want high wisdom. Note that Buns won't work with Fox, but there's a bunch of male Mercs that get moral bonuses working with Fox.
Your custom should likely have as much Wisdom and Marksmanship as you can get.
First give the letter you've got to the black lady. Talk to the people in the place she leads you to, this gets you a free solider (Ira) who is sort of shit but good at learning and training. Take her and go East to the town. Clear out the airport. If you disabled the counter-attack like I told you to then just go south from there, clearing out the town until you take the mine.
If you didn't disable the counter attack then go around the center sector to get to the mine sector so you haven't taken the whole town. Capture the mine, then start training milita, then go to the Bobby Ray's guns and things to order some decent weapons. Any rifles you can get are worth their weight in gold early on.
Once you've maxed out your milita and got your new weapons capture the center sector. Then you will get the hardest fight in the game as you face 30+ hostiles attacking your start of the game shit team. Milita will do their parts but also get fucking wiped by the opposing force. Control sight lines and don't get tempted to trade long range shots with enemies, you just can't win that way.
