I boosted Milly's cap when she reached it at 28 and in hindsight it was a good decision. She's basically a better Kanami, same main attack but with more strength, and a really strong party buff. I still bring Kanami along for her zero skill though.

Conquering Miko Ins gives you 5 SATs and after recruiting Natori, the H Sill at Miko Ins event will be available. That's 15 easy SATs. Digging into last thread, the best references I can find are pic related and pastebin.com/BHK0hFgg

Here's what I've gathered from them:
1) The Mikos don't really seem to be that much of a priority, both sources are happy to hold off Ashikaga while they get everything the way that they want it (e.g. recruiting the Mino Three).
2) The justifications for using Oil->Miko rather than conquering Kyo first are as follows:
2a) Conquering Kyo will make the Mikos harder.
2b) Breaking Ashikaga's gourd prematurely accelerates the Tenshi Sect events (although I can't see why this is a bad thing, I'd rather deal with Tenshi than Ashikaga, particularly given the land that I've probably already lost to Ashikaga).
2c) Keeping Ashikaga alive increases your chances of grabbing Ikkyu.
3) Vassaling Hara seems fine.

As for my opinion on things, I can see a potential disadvantage in conquering the Mikos prior to Kyo's levy (Rance's stats), I don't like the idea of Ashikaga and the Mikos potentially blitzing Oil, and I really don't like the idea that things might go wrong and that I'll go over turn 30 before killing off Ashikaga. Overall I'm still unsure on this, I feel like I'm risking a lot just so that I can make the Mikos a bit easier and farm Ashikaga a little more.

I'm the tokugawa-first cav-anon.

I usually do Oil->Miko into Kyo for anon's crazy 18-fan. It's an extra ten (or more) SAT because of Fukka and without yamamoto is probably the easiest castle to take to get to the vicinity.

Maybe it would be possible to exploit the Uesegi auto-win to take a province from them... I've done that before on other not 5s runs and that would be 8 SAT (fuuka + 2nd province). You should talk with the I-need-to-be-nice-to-suzume guy to figure out if that will be enough to fast-fan.

Then again there's nothing stopping your from exploiting the same feature AFTER you take Kyo and Hara, so I think it's probably more of a speed-run thing.

I'm not crazy about leaving the fish people alive while you take on Kenshin. I would want a unit with pursuit battle, which was invaluable in my attempt at Takeda.

I'm not sure what to do with Hara. The last time I conquered it, I had to siege it four times >>179664006, so it was maybe six-seven turns total.

Which makes me want to vassal them since you are right their reinforcements are actually pretty good

Then again as some anons have said you are not on nearly as much of a timer if you conquer Ashikaga before turn 30 so maybe spending six turns conquering Hara is not a big deal. You have three fans by then and need to deal with some domestic affairs such as to for example construct in Miko and clear characters.

On the other hand you need the NP and you can't construct if you vassal.

Also your guide is good but very wordy. If you write more succinctly (like on a resume) it will be more helpful because people (at least me) try to look for specific things.

You should reliably be able to get Oil by turn 12-13... five fans to get the Mino three... four to DOW the Mikos... puts you at 17-18 when you DOW them.

I tried Oil-Miko, I had bad luck with both Ashikaga, the Mikos, and my book drops. End result was that I was forced to either vassal Ashikaga or quit, I quit.

One particularly concerning thing that came up was that without conquering Kyo you're forced to either give Isoroku Whirlwind Shot in a suboptimal way (i.e. without getting her to Trust) or not give her it at all. This makes the Miko Institute a fair bit harder.

Talk two her twice, then again at 7 Normal. The SAT event is usually start of turn.

Funnily enough that exact problem has come up in the attempt that I've just finished (pic related). So that looks like another point in favour of "beat Ashikaga before the Mikos".

Look closely at this pic. What do you see? I see a map where conquering Ashikaga will put me no longer at war with anyone, which may put me at risk of an Iga war. That's not a risk that I want to take and "just war Uesugi" might not be a good solution, particularly if for whatever reason I could do with a few turns break from a serious war.

You are right to be concerned about losing Oil. I think it's safer to take Ashikaga and Hara first.

But in the early game their sorties are not really threatening... I've beaten a full six-stack of Hara units including Hara Shouji with just Maeda and the tactician (the weakest units in your roster).

Once you cap your first country those guys will probably get one-shotted by the opposition instead.

So, maybe I will write a few things for toufu now that I have played his ffa mod.

1. It is difficult to get the extra action fan. one reason for this may be a general lack of generics. I was able to gather only one unit with Twin Action King in 104 turns.

2. The balance with the demon units is quite good.

3. Because you can't upgrade units, you don't get to play with your favorite ones (this is a general feature of FFA which I do not like).

I just finished 03 and for me it is the best game from 01,02,03,5d,SR. I disliked the gameplay in 01, but somehow it works better in 03.

The voice acting adds a lot, Kanami's outrage and Shizuka's deadpan are twice as funny when you can actually hear them. All voices fit - I was surprised that Felliss had no edge to her voice, but that choice worked out better. The acting was very good, especially every line from Kanami's VA hit the spot.

Another thing I liked over 01 is the story and pace. I guess all VNs have to be long to justify their price, but 01's story wasn't really complicated enough to justify that, so it felt pretty stretched out. 03 on the other hand maintains a good pace and keeps raising the stakes. It was odd that Rance just overpowered Noce. I guess it makes sense with the strongest humans alive being part of the party. But isn't he on the level of those city things. It is weird.

There were as always lot of sex scenes. Even Alice got lewded. Sill didn't get lewded too much, which is also good. Milly Lincle didn't either, which is very bad. Oh well. I came in expecting Jill or Satella, but my favorite scenes turned out to be Renge's.

The sheer amount of good music and art AS stuff their games with is impressive. I feel bad for Jill and hope she gets an end in 10.

I'll weight the presence or absence of voice acting more heavily when choosing VNs in the future.

Sengoku is better or on par, imo. Sengoku has much better gameplay and replay value. But 03 is better story\scenes\character-wise. I don't care about voice acting either.

I like SR too, almost as much as I like 03. The SR gameplay is definitely better - I'm not a fan of the 01 formula, so my expectations for it in 03 were low and I was pleasantly surprised that it was..fine.

Storywise, while 03 has a more interesting story overall, SR has its advantages too in how well the narrative and the gameplay are integrated. It's also a bit hard for me to appraise SRs story, since I first played it 5 years ago and I've forgotten how the ups and downs felt.

The tiebreaker for me is definitely the voice acting, I've never cared for it before but Kanami's tsukkomis were too good. But the two games are almost incomparable anyway, they're in different genres.

I always felt this was weird in hindsight, too. Sure Rance didn't have to deal with the Invincibility Field but still, Noce is insanely strong. I wouldn't call IV "short" but I do think it's very self-contained. Actually that might be one of its greatest weaknesses, after III it feels somewhat underwhelming because pretty much everything that happens on Ylapu is inconsequential. It's literally an isolated floating island.

I still think it's worth playing, and I like the characters, and the gameplay is in some ways a step up (that auto-battle AI thing is more impressive than most modern games). The graphics are also a step up from III for sure. But if you're playing it after 03, you're not going to enjoy it as much I think.

Though I will say, if you're going to play IX, you should play IV first purely because it's referenced quite a few times, and some background info (that gets somewhat repeated in IX) is first introduced in IV. Though of course IX pulls the classic trick where Rance doesn't remember any of the men from the previous game so they have an excuse to reiterate the previous game's plot while also making it a gag.

July is conceivable because of Rance selling so damn well, but I think that Otakon is more likely because that was when Rance was announced last year. If the hardcopy release date was set at Anime Expo, I would say July, but it's being released the Friday after AX. If they make it so they start selling Rance copies at AX before it is available to the public through the website though, then at the very least, an Alicesoft announcement at AX is guaranteed.

I hope that even if they do Sengoku first, they announce Rance Quest anyways at the same time inb4 2 Alicesoft titles announced this year but the titles are Beat Angel Escalayer and Beat Valkyrie Ixseal.
