Full dex on swordman now is retarded though, no more crit and beyond 200 DEX you don't get any significant +attack speed
Crit attack is better now but still more an Archer thing, arguably for Hoplite3 too but you won't get reliable high crit chance on any swordman build without Finestra15, still raw physical crits are better than crits+crit attack but low raw physical, which you will have without whale'ing

STR was shit because the physical attack gain was mediocre
Now DEX is shit if you don't rely on attack speed and even for that 200 DEX seems the softcap for it, crit attack was improved but only archers can truly benefit from it, and they still want more physical attack than crit attack
On the other hand STR now gives good physical attack and accurancy so go ahead and go full DEX and either miss or crit for shit damage because you have shit physical attack, i will just play my STR build which has your same crit chances but my crits are actually doing damage and won't miss like yours.
Not even good PvP builds are full CON or full DEX anymore but use a mix of CON:DEX:STR

I had the same problem. I was huge into PvP in WoW, but FFXIV's is fucking abysmal. 3 second global cooldown. I don't really like the design of their classes either. Where most games have the generic archetypes, FFXIV feels like it has some need to present the most unique retarded shit. Who in the fuck wants to play as a mechanist or pugilist? Yeah, I agree. ToS has a similar problem though, where the weapon restrictions impact your class choices in a pretty big way.

Such as Dragoon's attribute of 2h spears giving you 20% large monster damage and 10% boss damage. That's a massive fucking bonus you miss out on if you want to play Hoplite with Syncro Thrust.

Another example is Corsair. Since you have to use a Pistol in your offhand, that means you can only take classes that can use abilities with a 1h weapon + offhand. It also means that if future classes are released that require a 2h weapon, Corsair gets fucked.

Sure you can quick swap weapons, but then you have to pay for more weapons to use. It's just a big mess with how much time it takes to farm a good transcendence level, and how much suffering it takes to reach a high enhancement level.

Is Stone Curse really as useless as people say? Sounds nice on paper, specially for pvp.

I'd think that a physical DPS class would be expert in occasionally bypassing defenses when needed, but most Swordsman classes lack that variety, and classes with natural synergy just do a lot of the same damage type. And this division of damage types doesn't really come into play that often except as an occasional mapping headache.

I find it kinda sad that in a MMORPG people claim it's easy as a cakewalk, that any build can do well because most of the character effectiveness comes from weapon and tanking/healing is so easy it's barely required, people still get really pissy about not going optimal builds. I mean I'd get it if the game was absolute hell and required VC for any and all end game content, but even WB are regarded as pushovers.

I see a lot of people going the cookie cutter combos, which pretty much turn to be the average MMORPG classes since nobody wants to go something uncanny. On this new patch where most skills really scale with levels, people even started struggling with "what should I go with" rather than just 1 point anything that didn't have a solid scaling, which is nice because I've seen even Stomping Kick Barbarian dishing some nice AoE.

It's not "hurr, let's all be snowflake", it's more of going on another MMORPG and seeing people just leveling their characters while their stats and skills are automatic, and there is no multiclass system, and coming to appreciate the level of freedom ToS have. For all the game faults, I still think this is a point that always brings me back to it, even if customization is wasted by a lot of people. Either because they go random ass pyro sorcerer featherfoot or just go cookie cutter super optimal builds. Even seeing a RC Warlock MastemaJustice mobs sometimes is refreshing.

Average physical damage with full STR = p.attack *50% + 1.5*p.attack*50%
So with 50 crit rate your average damage is 1.25 times your physical attack.
Average physical damage with full DEX = crit attack * 50%.

STR's physical attack = 1k~.
DEX crit attack = 2k~.

1k * 1.25 >>> 2k * 0.5 so STR wins, by a big margin.
