I'm doing my first continuous trilogy run and I'm completely stumped at choosing between Tali, Kelly, and Miranda.

I procrastinated choosing by doing every single loyalty mission and some sidequests, but now that they're all done I just have the mission to go get the IFF left, and I can't talk to Miranda or Tali without them each spilling their spaghetti.

If you went with them do Kelly and Miranda get enough screen time in 3 for it to be worth it since they aren't squadmates any more?

Tali's romance is very dramatic and plays into the storyline quite well in my opinion. Miranda is barely present in ME3 so it makes for a bit of a bland run. Kelly, I never fucked with, so that's uncharted waters for me. Can't imagine it's too fleshed out, though.

In ME1 the only squadmates I ever used were Tali and Garrus and I was annoyed that she wasn't an option since Liara's naivete and Ashley's REMOVE XENOS attitudes both grated on me.

But now in 2 there's TOO MANY options. Tali, Miranda, Kelly, and Samara are all appealing, which is hilarious compared to DA:I and ME:A where the squadmates are okay to downright irksome .

Garrus is my Shepard's greatest friend and I want him to be happy, so him pairing up with the quarian is far from a bad outcome, but I'd rather not commit to someone in 2 who ends up with five minutes max screen time in 3 like how Ashley just pops in for one scene in 2 then sends a damn email.

I would not go with Ashley or Miri then. Like I posted earlier, she's an afterthought in 3, which is too bad because it's in 3 that she's the most interesting. And Ashley is RELENTLESS with the guilt tripping over the Cerberus shit. You have to tell her "Yeah, it's really me" like five or six times before she chills out. And even then she gives you that side eye.

Samara is a great pairing for Shep because she's basically him, but more strict. And professionally they're more or less equals, so she ends up being a figure Shep can both confide in and go to for guidance. But sadly she is not romanceable. She's been fighting and fucking across the stars for hundreds of years, so she's transcended the need for human dick. If you pursue it, the most you get is a "Oh that's nice, but no."

Garrus and Tali are the best NPC couple, but Tali's missions in 2 and 3 are much better with her as a love interest.

Can we all agree Jacob is the most boring character in the series? I can't think of a more forgettable squadmate.

The best example of how much of a sweetheart she is would be to watch her "sex" scene, where she tries to do something nice for Ryder for once, and fails horribly.

Jaal and Peebee were too human-esque, all the other romances WERE humans, romancing Best Boy wasn't an option, and since Bioware didn't see fit to give us a Vorcha LI this time around, that left one romance available. Turians fit the bill because they're different enough to appeal to my xeno fetish, but still draw enough upon relatable archetypes so it's not TOO out-there.

The carapace idea for turians doesn't make sense.

From what we've seen of their bodies they don't seem to have the set up to support a full body carapace, not in the actual shell form that the word means. Hell, we even see that they have moveable "lips" made of the material, and that's not how shells work. Instead it makes more sense that the "carapace" seems to function more like a callus, with parts more hardened and other parts more fleshy. This better supports a full bodied protection, as the skin would still be able to stretch and move.

I imagine their "faceplate" to be similar to the material of an armadillos armoured shell, which is build up like a sandwich, in which only the outer layer is hardened by embeded minerals/metals, but the material beneath it is made from (dextro-) collagen rich fibres (Sharpey's fibres). This sandwich is surprisingly sturdy yet flexible. So i´d think Turians have these osteoderms instead of a real carapace. perhaps it´s just the wording that is wrong in that matter

This carapace thing reminded me of the Story of Darth Bane, who too acuired a carapace. Maybe the word just sounded nice. I for my part can just guess around. You see, many people work on such project and everyone has at least one opinion on how things should work.

Can we discuss the soundtrack? The new one had some good tracks in there but still felt lacking to me. The intro was doing fine but from there it just kind of fizzled out. Music on the planets and stations were too quiet, too ambient. It made everything feel more empty to me without something driving me in the background. Now it picked up in the priority ops and especially in the missions at the end of the game, those were where it most felt like I was playing a mass effect game instead of a generic space vidya. Also I wish they'd have carried over some of the iconic tracks from the original to make it feel connected, besides the map theme that can only be heard in the captains quarters.
But what was missing is the synth sounds from the previous installments. In the OT there's some synth featured either heavily or underlying in the soundtrack at nearly all times, at least in the first two games. I miss that sound, I don't know why they're moving further and further away from it when it set the scene so well. This trying to be "cinematic" sounding in every game is stupid to me, games are abandoning unique features because they want to be like the other kids on the block.

I think it depends on the game itself, and what vision, inspiration or tone you're trying to set.
Mass Effect has a lot of synth because it was in part inspired by -70s and -80s sci-fi, but you're not going to use that kind of music for Halo.

I'd love to have more cello in sci-fi, it just has such a gorgeous sound.

Yes Halo and other games can pull off the string sound or a voiced soundtrack, while Mass Effect was known for synth. My problem is the series not staying musically consistent. It's these "new trilogy" entries trying too hard to be original so they forget that because they're a new installment of an existing franchise they still have to somehow bridge the gap, they need to have some carryover. Halo games had fantastic soundtracks that people thought were cool and iconic, but when Halo 4 came along the soundtrack was generic (whole game was low quality but), none of that chorus sound was there to make Halo feel like Halo. It's the same problem here, we're not getting this consistent synth sound in our face to say "you're playing a Mass Effect game, this atmosphere should make you think of mass effect" I know there is synth sound and electronic in the soundtrack, but it's so quiet and subdued that even on full volume I barely pick up on it.
