ok at this point you might as well just forgive cerebella. shes gotten enough bullying to last a lifetime, which is equal to the crime she committed against ms. fortune. except that ms. fortune committed countless crimes herself and she was finally given justice. theft is punishable by death in certain countries, so in reality, cerebella did nothing wrong to begin with. ms. In case you guys were still curious about this, I collected Peter's quotes on the cutscene/Trigger stuff, from December last year.

>Scenario has been completely outlined, story beats planned, and what scenes we expect will be illustrated, in-game / talking heads, or a mixture of the two.
>Some rough concepting /storyboarding has happened to for the illustrated story bits, but nothing official, since we'd want to time dialog around that, which hasn't been written yet.

I've always been really annoyed by the Combat Android ones, like Mei-Fang in Arcana Heart or to a lesser extent Kos-mos from Xenosaga.
I just think about the thousands upon millions of dollars spent to design and produce those pristine knockers and hips, which serve no practical function for the android's expected tasks, and the droids in their vast intelligence never really question the design choices either.

To contrast, I much prefer designs like Aigis, that still have an appealing look, but at least give the impression of being built with function over form,

From what I've heard, all of that can pass for a T, just as long as it's not the result of somebody being killed on screen. i.e. the blood shooting out of a person. Something to that extent.

Although I don't know how ratings looked at stages like Fetus of God, which I'd consider more overtly graphic, but maybe it was just cartoonish enough to still pass for T.

It's all right. If you haven't done it before then definitely just play it and learn some more about the characters.

In addition to Arcade mode you can also fight the AI endlessly in training mode, or survival mode if you have it.
You'll know when you've gotten a good grasp of the general mechanics when you can consistently beat Nightmare difficulty (aside form Marie).

just bought skullgirls, and was gonna buy the dlc characters. but the full dlc pack includes a "trials" mode. i'd rather just buy the characters on their own as i only have 11 CDN in my steam wallet, but is the trials mode worth it? it says bnb and other combos and that's something im down to learn, but can i just find those online and practice in training mode, or does the trials mode have other stuff that make it better than just that?

you missed out on the bundlestars deal last month man. coulda bought the game and 2nd encore dlc for $4.

at regular price it's cheaper to buy the DLC separately, but keep in mind that buying them separately won't decrease the cost of 2nd Encore if you want to get it later.

the 2nd Encore DLC comes with voiced story mode and a couple other singleplayer things, if that interests you. if not, then go ahead and take the cheaper route.

shantae doesn't sell a lot on its own, but since WF already had so many games ready to port to Steam and elsewhere, the sales between everything together probably still adds up pretty decently for them.

meanwhile, to turn a profit next year, LZ is going to be banking almost entirely on Indivisible. I doubt Skullgirls/Mobile earns them much with the slice that Autumn takes.

Kenin v Wing was probably my favorite from that group, but it was definitely rough on Kenin with all of those HBDs.
Wing's Filia was just so good to watch during the tournament though. Solid conversions.

Whoo, glad /lzg/ didn't lose to an auto-pilot team
In case anyone was wondering why there were "two" Nagas, what ended up happening is that the /lzg/ heads that were supposed to go into the game weren't done with the exception of a few players like the actual NAGA RAIDAAAAA and Shantae Refugees. I wasn't told ahead of time that they wouldn't be done, so I recycled last VGL's cardheads and didn't update the player IDs for each one. These should be fixed for next week and I'm going to try and see if we can get a few more models in

Up next is /xcg/ on Friday and finally /aog/ on Sunday, both of which will prove to be more than a handful. If we can manage a win against /xcg/, it puts us in a good place for the knockouts but not confirmed just yet.

I hope so too. Based on the lore we know, and the stories in SG, I'm confident they'll have something at least as good as most of the 90s RPGs.

The writing in those games wasn't really all that deep, but the interesting worlds and scenarios made up for it and still resulted in a fun game. You don't find people quoting Chrono Trigger like it's Shakespeare, for example, but the story was still told very well.

What I do is I go for short combos that don't lead to anything, and block the same way until they can figure out how to bypass it.

So like since I play Bella I'll just do launcher into jHP, which allows them to ground tech and try again.

It doesn't give them the win, usually it still ends up with me winning, but it does give them plenty of chances to play. I don't want to be the person that makes them quit the game.

No idea what to do in your place since you're a Peacock, maybe exclusively use the ground bombs and see if he can jump over them. Are you the solocock by the way? It'd be fun if we had some games.

I don't know the exact numbers, but the WiiU's launch was pretty damn awful. Based on the generally warm reception I've been seeing for the Switch, particularly for its portability, I wouldn't be surprised if it's already done better.

I don't know what kind of 3rd party support it's getting in time for the holidays though, but I'm sure they'll still make a good chunk off of re-releases and first party titles like usual.

I'm still excited for Bloodstained, but I'm definitely happier with how Indivisible looks right now.

A lot of more of Indiv's new visuals are handpainted, which I think gives the areas more life.
The trees and foliage are literally just 2D objects layered into the scene.

I like the SGC, but it can be hugboxy. It is a good place where we all care for each other, but I just hate having to watch what I say because no one gets 4chan culture.

I can be a lot more relaxed in /lzg/ but I'm just tired of constantly being on bump duty. I love you guys, but there's only a handful of you that actually plays Skullgirls. There's no discussion...

I feel like both games would still lose a good bit of their charm. There's a strong comic book-y look to SG line art that's really hard for 3D models to replicate on their own. Even Xrd doesn't really pull it off.

Indiv I'm less sure on, since the game isn't done yet, but something you still lose in both cases would be the personal touch that the animators bring to every frame. Especially for cases like smear frames.

That's not to say 3D animators don't bring their own personal touches too, but it's really more prevalent at the Pixar level, and I think the technology still filters out a lot of it by default, Moving a node on a rig will never look quite as personal as drawing a line.

VO's definitely faster as long as you're talking about the first two games. Biggest difference with the mobility is that you have unlimited boost, but attacking while boosting leaves you super vulnerable at the end. VO also lets you cancel boosts early with minor endlag, while GV has acceleration and deceleration on boosting with some significant startup/endlag even if you don't attack. Best comparison I'd say is that if Oratan is Melee, GV is Smash 4.
All that aside, VO is balanced around heavy mobility as defense and shitloads of spammable, homing projectiles as offense. Dumbfire is the exception, not the norm (think Raiden laser). GV is more of a bait/punish type game, where everything's a little more methodical. Bigger endlag, supers exist, the boost differences, etc. Goes back to the Smash analogy. Oh, and with that in mind, don't bother with VO: Force. If GV is Smash 4, Force is Brawl.

Yeah the first VO on Saturn was the only one I really played a lot. I watched some friends play the one of Dreamcast (Ontario Tangerine) but never got to try it myself.
GV kinda came out of nowhere for me and when I played a match at a friend's house I was immediately reminded of VO. I almost bought it for myself but wasn't sure if I wanted to get into the mechanics of it too much. I kinda just wanted play VO again.
I can understand the Smash4 comparison, GV was fun but it felt like a different flow. Not unlike how most fighting games work I guess.

Those 3D games really blew my mind as a kid. Funny as an adult I find myself leaning back to 2D stuff more often, like Skullgirls.

Skullgirls. The best game I played before that was MvC 2, but I'm terrible at fighting games, but I played it just for all the Marvel characters, Ryu, Ken, and all the pretty female Capcom characters that I didn't know but just liked to look at them. The game itself was just so fun even when I didn't know how to play. Like it was hard for me to super jump but it was so cool how high you could fly into the air when I did and it was so easy to feel powerful with how easy the moves were to pull off without knowing them on top of the assists and supers randomly showing up onscreen and all the cool effects and stuff blowing up and getting high combos. I tried other fighting games like the other Street Fighters, Virtua Fighter 2/3/4, Soul Caliburs, and DOAs, and none of them were nearly as fun or easy, but all of them had such perfect beautiful female characters that I didn't mind grinding through these games to unlock costumes even though they weren't fun to me because I wasn't really interested in the actual mechanics. Smash is probably more fun than MvC2 but it's not a traditional fighter. But the problem with every single one of these games is that there was always a few ugly/stupid/joke characters that ruined the entire experience for me. I was fine with characters that took themselves seriously and looked cool, but I absolutely hated the retarded looking ugly bizzaro characters so much that I'd start to hate the game. Examples: the Tutankhamen mummy character in MvC2, 96% of all the characters in Darkstalkers, 99% of Samurai Showdown, Voldo/Yoshimitsu from SC, Dan/Blanka/Dhalsim/Zangief/Birdie/Poison's partner, half the characters from SNK, the Pinnochio boss character from the DOA games, etc. It's like some of these characters are purposefully drawn/modeled ugly and act retarded or are given these autistic idles and fighting styles just for shock value and look how weird or funny I am. I hate it, waste of a character slot. (continued in next post)

So Capcom vs SNK probably had the most satisfying roster even though I didn't know most of the characters because no one felt like they were a meme character just for shits and giggles, no one acted or looked too weird, most of them were cool, fit, or sexy. No bullshit. Then later I wondered if you could just take the hottest female characters and put them into one game. Chun-li, Cammy, Morrigan, Yuri, Mai, Whip, etc, and just put them all into one game. I always wanted a game like this, but every fighting game is basically like 3/4 guys and 1/4 girls in a good game, but sometimes you were lucky to have even just one or two females like in the early street fighters. Then Skullgirls game along. By this time I had learned enough in SC2 to actually try to get good because that game had such a fun single player mode, and DOA 4 had made gameplay easier to get into so I actually wanted to learn how to play. But Skullgirls was the first fighting game I buckled down and and put effort into learning how to play fighting games. For one, it played like MvC2 so there was all this cool looking shit going onscreen at once, but it wasn't vomit-inducing like BlazBlu or Guilty Gear. No dumb-looking characters, everyone had something appealing about them and most of them took themselves seriously. Basically theres no Dans or Voldos in this game. And the 'ugly characters' like Double or Painwheel are completely balanced by how cool and fierce and edgy they are. And this game has the sexiest art style I've ever seen while still managing to look innocently cute, it's so fun to look at, even more since it's animated better than any fighting game before it at such a crisp and smooth resolution, no jagged pixel-shit like in KOF games or SF3. It's so smooth and clear and hi-def. Also, some of the girls are ridiculously OP hot, just perfect 2D. And to top it off, the roster was 100% female. It was my dream game...

Thanks for sharing your input anon. I asked the question because in my own head I was struggling to decide for myself whether I'd want to give the title to Street Fighter 2, or Melee. One for its influence on the genre, and the other for it's enduring competitive legacy.

But I also wondered what Skullgirls legacy might be in later years. I don't think it'll ever get the credit it deserves, but I personally consider it one of the most influential new fighting game IPs since Smash. Heck, just look at the number of games that licensed GGPO after SG came out. That's no coincidence.

So many practical things were implemented in Skullgirls design that are now considered no-brainers for the genre. Even just the idea of a fighting game developer publicly posting patch notes to the community, and later running a beta to test balance changes, were things fighting games had never typically done.

Skullgirls changed a lot of genre trends and broke a bunch of boundaries. Maybe in 10 years it'll finally get the credit.

basic advice, play the tutorials, spend some time playing the singleplayer and training modes and get used to your character(s).
have fun, make the AI scared of you.

don't do online when you're starting out unless you're playing with friends.
don't let yourself get frustrated either. nothing's impossible. every character and every ratio has won a tournament at this point. it's all about the player skill and the time you put in to practice.

if you need to meet players, set up matches, or learn combos for your character, you can visit the forum and discord links in the OP here. there are also really good beginners groups on Steam like "Skullgirls Get Gr8", and usually weekly tournaments/streams throughout the week.
check out the videos from this year's past Combo Breaker to see some good high level stuff.

Y'know, that's how I felt about the LRG pre-orders. And compared to that goal, this is a smaller gap with a lot more working in its favor.
