Yes, warmane servers are pay-to-play cancer with funserver rates and 5k+ fake pop. Not to mention thecash shop. It's far from a perfect server, sure, but at least they are known for keeping the servers (and the population) up for years.

Then there's gummy. People are excited about it, and so am I, but fuck me are you guys delusional. Sure, the scripting and all the engine-work is superb from what I saw in the beta, and any bugs will probably get fixed withing hours.
However, you can't ignore the fact that he shut down his servers twice in the past, fucking over thousands of players. "m-muh college" isn't really an excuse. Like, he should've realized just how much work goes into maintaining a private server within the first week. He did not, supposedly, and only "realized" that running tbc server is fucking over his colege defree after a few months?
How can anyone believe such a vague excuse? And how can you be so sure he won't do it for the third time, just because he feels like it?

I'm not playing on warmane right now, but I'm more likely to go there in the future instead of gummy's. I played a lot of arena in retail tbc and was pretty average. However I had a lot of fun.
How tryhard do people tend to be about arena on private servers? Like if I play 2s or 3s with RL friends, are we going to get rage/shit-talk whispers afterwards? I can handle salt but the last time I played any arena was retail MoP and it was infested with people who would immediately either shit-talk you or tell you how bad you were after matches.

Like I said, salt is fine, but never understood the motivation to be a sore-winner.

Related, are people really focused on top tier comps or are they okay with just playing casually and having a good time?
My limited private server experience (just nost) was a mixed bag as so many people were hyper-focused on min-maxing - which is fine, but it did seem like it sort of stopped being fun for them after awhile and was perplexing at the available end-game content wasn't in any way difficult.

In terms of mechanics, there isn't much getting "good" for most classes but if people want to put in the effort for gear/buffs/consumes why do you care? Also, top guilds don't illegally abuse broken mechanics for the most part, the ones that do usually get banned anyways. Many people find putting the effort in fun, as the reward is great. Don't like forced locks on faction choices. Also only like having 1 faction playable per account, since it's pvp. A:H ratios are something of a problem I see with leveling, and BGs. Arenas aren't affected since you can vs same faction, and raiding isn't outdoors really (sans 2 world bosses). One option he has already done before, which kinda worked, but not really, was to allow 1 free faction change to the lower ratio after a certain level (maybe level 25-30). He did this during SC1 iirc, since all the high tier PvP players were on horde, which got fucky since they all chose to xfer over, and then became ally rolling horde non stop with premades. But like I said, ratios only really seem to hurt bgs/leveling (and to a lesser extent finding groups), so perhaps give an incentive to roll the lesser ratio that would affect those (maybe 2x xp weekends for the lower ratio, run it for a month after launch to initiate a balance maybe?).

Well people choosing to play a faction are set on that faction. So unless there is more of a reason to play the other faction, rather than just punish those who don't, you won't get people going over. Exp bonuses were targeted at low pop ally, since as you said questing is unplayable when you're getting outed 3:1, so the bonus to exp lets you level with less needed in regards. Though only being a weekend thing, perhaps it could be a [bi]daily shift. Not sure how hard it would be to code this, but for the 1st month, or couple weeks, have the bonus exp be for lower ratio during peak, and lows of the server times. Seems somewhat complicated, but dunno. The only other option I think would work, besides maybe the free xfer to lower pop (perhaps give em a bonus to exp if they xfer over?), would be to do a RaF for choosing to play the lower faction. When you make your character, and it was of the lower faction, you could select 1 character to have 2x exp till cap (or lvl 58). This way it only lets you have a single character bonus to exp, no specific times, and has incentives to pick 1 faction over another with no breaking perks.

Well common sense is a pretty good start. Ele/resto is shit, unless you like being a healcuck with a tank always on for instance leveling. Solo you will always be playing the slots with WF as enhc. Noticed this on their 1x server, I was able to do pop arc shots on NPCs just by take a step back and jumping. Seems to be related to how the server snapshots characters positions, and perhaps their code isn't scanning fast enough. He's addressed this several times which I'm certain you are aware of. I could copy/paste it but I'm not going to. The fact is that it doesn't matter where it's hosted - if Blizz wants to get a server "shut-down", even hosting in russia does not help it. Blizzard is bound to send out notices but that's as far as they NEED to go. The nost case was them shutting down of their own accord, the judgement blizz won was years ago and not relevant, and other servers ignore anything they get. Gummy has said that he will switch hosting if he has to, so this is a moot point even in worst case scenario.
