The first one isn't all that butchered. having played the original PSP version, only the missing voices during Punish time irked me. The second one is butchered beyond repair. The game itself is a solid RPG with some flaws of course, but I recommend you get it either by importing it or just buying off from PSN for cheap.

By now I'm way after being angry at nisa, just recalled the sadness I felt that it ended this way.

Atelier is made of up discrete arcs, so you can start at the beginning of any arc. Most people recommend the "Arland" trilogy (meaning you'd start with Rorona), but you could also start with Ayesha (first game in the "Dusk" trilogy), or Sophie, which is the first game in the current "Mysterious" arc.

To fully appreciate Ar Nosurge, though, I think you'd need to play the PS2/3 Ar Tonelico games first (whether you also need to play the Japan-only Ciel Nosurge is debatable).

There's no compelling reason to start with Ayesha at this point, so it's really either Rorona or Sophie, and the only reason to start with Sophie would be to get caught up on the current arc. But most people think that the Arland games are a better intro to the series.

As far as Ar Nosurge goes, I haven't played it yet (planning to finish the PS2/3 games first), so others would know better than me whether you can play them out of release order.

I had a bad experience with D2 okay. You don't need to be XSEED to know horrible bugs by NISA. Also XSEED had localized that corpse party game with a bunch of bugs too.

PS2 was hard to emulate because it used 128bit registers, when PC used 32 and then 64.
Nowadays some CPUs and GPUs can do similiar stuff, like sending few 32bit numbers as one 64 bit number for calculations. This sort of doubles their computation power for smaller data.
PS3 was so overcomplicated that for PSNOW they decided to use 8 CELL cpus on one server motherboard instead of emulating it.

But then some vita games run better on vita than on ps3, so that shows how easier it's to code for it in comparison.

1) You can use support spells outside of combat, these include things like war cry and cover.
2) First class change is at level 15. You're also given the option to level reset to 15. Do this so you can re-distribute skill points.

Honestly as far as party setup and all, just try things out for yourself and see what works. If it sucks then level reset and try again. Also don't focus too much on grinding and try to explore the map 100% like this anon said >>176234239
