Ok, how do I calculate HE damage required to blow up vehicle?

Does it have to be open topped?

I know that Rocket fighter can kill jeep/motorbike/truck with one rocket run

I've noticed that I can blow up bren-like lights wih 1 AV with one run as well, 2 out of 3 times.

for AV 2 and 3, I usually use 2 rocket fighters at once, but its usually 50/50 chance or even less. Are there any data that can help me out here?

Tank Warfare is that good shit
>>
>>176203065
you see kamerade, this is a prototype Fallschirmpanzerjägerbombe 38(t) für 7,62 cm PaK 36 Ausführung B (FsPzJgBm 38(t) Ausf. B for short) anti-tank bomb, the idea was to drop it with a parachute from high attlitude over enemy advance, during the fall the crew would be capable of putting multiple rounds into the thin top armour of enemy tanks. When approaching the ground the crew would jump out with their own parachutes.

The weapon showed great potential during the testing, but due to the state of the Luftwaffe dropping it from aircraft was deemed too risky.

That's why the Ausf C. variant was developed, very similar in design, the only major difference being the delivery method, the bomb and the crew were to be brought over the target area with a modified V2 rocket.

After soting out the initial problems (the first test launch killed the whole crew and 5 personnel on the ground) it was accepted into serivce in early 1945. At least three launches against the advancing Red Army were performed but the program was terminated in March with the destruction or capture of the launch facilities and resource shortage.

Many historians agree that had this weapon could have turned the tides of the war, had the war lasted a few years longer.

There is some dumb damage hit roll i can't remember, it is dependant on HE and if it's open top it basically has no armour and the roll is very likely. With enclosed top armour rocket strikes has something like 3% chance to actually destroy a tank.
>>
>>176204431
well, that doesnt explain much, but thanks anyway.
>>
>>176205298
If you ask on the paradox forum i might give you a proper reply when I find out.
>>
>>176205298
In WRD HE damage had big multipliers as armor increased. Full HE damage for 0 and 1 armor, 40% for 2, then I don't remember, maybe 30% for 3 and single digit percentages for 4+. Probably the same in SD but what's being scaled is kill chance.
>>
>>176205298
also in RD rockets hit front/side armor, NOT top; top was only for cluster, laser guided bombs and very lucky artillery/dumb bomb hits

>>
>>176209569
>>176208569
Alright so I just double-checked, and you misunderstand. The Luftlande can fire AP in direct fire, but the 25 pounder's -bombardment- has both an AP and HE value. It can snipe vehicles if they stay in a bombardment long enough, while the other howitzers that have AP shells use them like AT guns would. Just with god awful accuracy.
>>
>>176203374
It will please my M4A3 76s greatly, that's for sure. And my Jumbos too. But to really make them mad, the Panthers' final drives need a 50% chance to permanently fail and force a bailout at some point after deployment, since during the Normandy campaign half of all Panthers were found abandoned with ruined final drives. (That component of the tank had a lifespan of only 150km.)

It's pretty decent. I pirated it with the grand campaigns and it was an enjoyable experience since you went from 39 to 45 upgrading your core troops and promoting veterans. You get some freedom within the campaign like a decisive victory here or there might change the next set of missions or give you a choice of what to do.

I'll look into it. I think I'll pick up the base game and go from there. Maybe I'll pay for a few campaigns, or pirate them, I'll decide later.

Guards Armoured When?

So guys when are we going to have mods for this SD44 game?
>>
>>176224393
After the game releases
>>
>>176224393
I don't understand how this will really benefit the game. Wouldn't mods cause people with them to not be able to play with other players who don't have the mod, thus separating the already ded community? Or are the mods just visual changes such as UI, textures, all that player-side stuff that won't affect other players?

>>
>>176227202
Maybe Eugen were on to something when they made mod support a pipe dream for their older games.

Come to think of it, the list of RTS mods that were ever any actual good is fucking tiny. Forged Alliance forever(SupCom), Shockwave(Generals), Modern Warfare(WiC), Complex(Homeworld), and World at War(MoW) are the only I can think of. 5 mods from over 2 decades of a genre.
>>
>>176227502
Also, I just noticed, all of them have something in common: They maintain the core gameplay and inherit the systems from which the base game is balanced upon and try to improve the game from within it's already established framework rather than trying to reinvent the wheel.

There hasn't been a single good mod for RTS games that drastically changes the core mechanics of the game.
>>
>>176227502
desert combat for battlefield1942, GT legends still lives thanks to its modding community though thats not a totalconversion

>>
>>176226912
Players usually suck at balance even harder than the devs. For every game where modding is an option, there's always plenty of mods that mindlessly increase all stats because it's epic, and there's plenty of audience for them too.

You don't even need mods. WRD has most of the community playing 10v10 games on 4v4 maps and 4v4 games on 1v1 maps. And then they cry about artillery being OP and 90% of the units being useless [no shit you idiot, when you put 1000 points on a lane of course the only useful units are superheavies and AT planes].

I'm not actually against mods, "people" who like shit should be free to roll around in it as much as they want, but if anything Eugen getting better at balance will make the problem worse.
>>
>>176226912
>>176228692

I notice this a lot with Marders.

Treat them more like stationary guns that can retreat / relocate in a pinch, and you'll have way less frustrating losses like that. They seem to flip or get stuck in the tiniest ditches. I honestly don't let any vehicle bar T-34's anywhere near trench-works.

Honestly, I usually don't bother off-roading with much except T-34's because of the tendency for vehicles to kill themselves on trees or other German shit to get stuck. T-34's just seem to crush the trees, and seldom ever get into places you can't reverse out of.

Most people that play wargames like Tigers on the Hunt, Close Combat, Grigsby, etc. don't come here. It would never work. The only solution is for the Eugen shitters to not chimp out every time somebody posts something in 2D, which seems unlikely since Eugen shitters can't even refrain from bitching about if you should be playing WarGame or Steel Division.

does the 20mm cannon on the p38 in steel division make it any more effective vs other planes than the p47? i havent used it yet, but im wondering what the advantage might be, other than cost.
>>
>>176203739
>all those flies all over the bread and eggs

>>
>>176264227
Pretty sure the 8x.50s on the P-47 are still better than the 4x.50+1x20mm on the P-38, as it should be. Knowing eugene there's probably still some hidden stats involved, but on the stat cards you can see the P-37 gets 8 HE while the P-38 gets 4+2.

So yeah, between that, higher speed and better resilience, the P-47 is just better in every way but cost and phase. It's still worth taking the P-38s though, to deal with phase A bombers and ducks, and to help prevent luftlande from snowballing their air spam.
>>
>>176264227
>>176265903
Not home to look in the client, but does the 20mm not have a mild range advantage or anything? I can't recall.
>>
>>176266082
nope, same exact range.

>>176265903
i've had really good luck using the p47 to punish enemy planes. to be honest i havent had too much of an issue with phase a aircraft. i usually like to build up a nice force of fighters and really punish axis players for sending in unsupported bombers and ground attack planes in a surprise attack.
>>
Does anyone know of a wargame that simulates command more accurately? For example, if I'm a company commander I don't micromanage each rifleman and machine gun - I issue broader orders to my platoon commanders and make fine adjustments where I see fit. Every game I've encountered wants me to micromanage on incredibly unrealistic levels - it assumes far too much agency for the commander.

The people who really kill threads are the people who don't contribute anything in their posts, but bitch at people for doing it. You can just hide anime, or ships, or sim, or squad, or what ever you don't like. You don't have to look at it.

We all want to talk about military shit, we all want games that promote proper and cool military tactics and equipment, I don't give a flying fuck if your post anime pictures, as long as this thread is alive, you can bump it however you like, as long as you don't discourage others from contributing. If you don't like particular contend hide it.

Oh that's what you wanted. Well then your shit out of luck. I don't think many WWII games have this because the idea is to be "historically accurate" which means fighting in battle that actually happened to try and mimic real life events. If you had a strategic layer, you would have to open things up for the player.

To be fair, the turn south was actually a good idea once you look at the situation at the time, Stalingrad became what it became because the germans thought that it would be a natural rally point for the red army, and most generals supported the decision to keep Paulus in the city until it was to late to do anything.

French huge income in A phase will be nerfed, mark my words.

It would have been fine if game had a fixed amount of time, without the total victory condition. Because now its basicly is: I have an economy boost in longest and most important phase of the game, and you MIGHT have economy boost if you survive until phase C. Which dont happen like 30% of the times, and even if, You have so much ground and points to retake you basicly have to make crazy, suicidal pushes against hons, which makes you bleed requisition like crazy

Are you fucking retarded? The Kiev pocket was a massive sucess for the germans. Taking in account that the best case scenario end with Gunderian having a huge flank he cannot keep manned, his logistics colapsing becuase of the mud, and his infantry poorly supplied, exausted and 200-300km behind the frontline, plus german food situation going down the gutter because the lack of ukrainian grain, yes, it served the germans really fucking well.

After 15 hours I have determined that I lack the mental faculties to effectively micromanage my assets in Steel Division. I keep sending units in piecemeal and while it might kill something, the AI always has a counter for what I deployed in just the right spot, just a few yards behind their front line, and then I find myself buying a counter for that new threat as it chews up my advancing units, and I get caught up in this loop of constantly reacting... to an AI. So I end up never having the funds I need to make a concerted push somewhere because being aggressive is expensive.

I regularly get caught up in trying to micro tanks and guns, as they die so quickly, that I forget about a whole flank only to check on it a few minute later and find that a bunch of M8s and AA guns have destroyed everything. I've actually stopped using tanks altogether, I just get them killed to AT guns all the time.

The line of sight mechanic is not well communicated to the user at all and the fact that every map is flooded with hedges that create tiny murder-corridors that you never expected doesn't help, but I guess you can't avoid that in a game about Normandy.

I also don't understand how anyone can use infantry that don't have AT weapons in their actual squad.

I've never been so utterly thrashed by a game before. I usually at least feel competent but in SD it's just jumping from one crisis to the next, like 40 minutes of being a fire brigade. This is what being stupid feels like.

So I know in SD singleplayer, you get to keep your units as you move through the campaign. What I'm wondering is, do the units gain veterancy? I don't think they mentioned that, but it would make sense to me if your units got stars or had a chance to become leaders, just like in panzer general.

that feel when using stug for originally designed role

it's a comfy feel
>>
>>176375489
i thought the stug was literally an at gun on treads?
aka an assault gun
>>
>>176375717
More or less. Original design was for a low velocity high effect HE round to be its primary armament. Was designed to assist infantry with breaking hard-points and fortifications.

After they were surprised by Soviet tank designs, they altered it to having a high velocity gun, and used it in more of a tank-destroyer role with AP, hence why it's usually remembered as a tank destroyer.
>>
>>176375954
the HE one was the stuh (sturmhaubitze) iirc and the stug was sturmgeschutz (i.e. assault gun)
could be talking out of my ass here though
>>
>>176376118
Early StuGs were equipped with 7.5 cm L/24 wich Germans considered a gun not a howitzer, but it was designed for infantry support, with short barrel and big HE shells. Only in mid 1942 they started upgunning the StuGs with the long 75, making it a tank destroyer... and creating the need for a new assault gun for infantry support, which is how the StuH (with a 105mm howitzer) was born (late '42).
>>
>>176376118
The early StuGs with the 7,5-cm-StuK 37 L/24 (the stubby gun) were still called StuG Ausf. A-E, the TD version is Ausf. G with the 7,5-cm-StuK 40 L/48 gun
The Sturmhaubitze was using the 10,5-cm-Sturmhaubitze 42 gun and was made because more and more StuG III were used to fight tanks and the Ausf. G version was lacking in HE power and Infantry needed something for better support

Death sentence.
They are just too good all round. Armored cars eat your infantry alive (while being recon, so no way to hide), bully any softskins you have, and will even crush your shitty phase A tanks. I suppose 12SS. might be able to put up a good fight with their firefly, but even then, frenchies can pull out their Phase A tank destroyer, which if that kills the firefly, it's gg. Their MG teams also outrange other phase A mg teams (and thus all enemy infantry) which means that you have a very cost efficient solution for holding ground since your initial deployment will probably focus on pushing one section of the map. Adding insult to injury, their half tracks and armored cars are better AA than other divisions Phase A and B AA, and they get good AA units on top of that, and Spitfires, so you can't even win in the skies.

The only area they are weak in is that they don't have tons of infantry. However, this rarely a problem, because their recon is so effective vs. infantry, they don't need to risk their infantry to kill yours. Less open maps are more doable, but it's not like they flounder there either.

surprisingly decent. The strategic aspects are mostly to just give context to battles like in Total War, but the context really helps the battles. For the most part you spend like 10% of your time on the map and 90% of the time on the battlefield. On the map you just move/merge/split your armies and raise new ones with funds you get from controlled provinces. units experience and elan can change after battles, and I've had units like Raw Pike and Shot reach superior training and enthusiastic elan. If you didn't like vanilla P&S than you probably won't like campaigns. Now most of the time I just dick around using the extra nations mod for ahistorical and wierd match-ups.

Hitler actually often showed a lot of inteligence and commom sense, often more than his own generals, during the earlier and mid war ie until mid 1943 or so. For example, Fall Gelb was scoffed by traditional germans generals, that thought it was impossible(and it was pretty hard to pull off), while Hitler pushed for it, the "turn south" during Barbarossa was ultimaly the correct decision, the "hold at all cost" order during the climatic soviet winter counter-offensive might actually have saved the wehrmacht, and the Stalingrad clusterfuck had more to due with the german army as a whole rather than Hitler.

Hitler wasn't a genius, but he was a decent idea guy that could often see the pratical reality in front of him before drug addiction and surrounding himself with yes-men got the best of him, especially in 1941, when a lot of his generals were running high on the euphoria of the victory over France.

Both Britain and France were actually fairly unwillingly to actually declare war on Germany after the invasion, and remember that Hitler had done just that in Czechoslovakia a few months earlier while Britain and France kept their thumbs up their asses rather than do anything.
>Violating a non-aggression pact with Russia and committing to an actual invasion, when people 10 times as talented as him failed miserably at such a gargantuan and largely impractical task.
Germany had just done that during WWI against Russia, all while facing France and Britain at the same time and treating Russia as a secondary front.

Nerf was real harsh on the Scots. All the Besa's got hit hard, 2" Carrier had it's range dropped by 200m, all Carriers had their armor reduced, and there were some broad nerfs to how (Vickers?) mounted to vehicles. So mobile, close-range indirect fire support is now a lot less viable, and the previously very useful MMG carriers are fucking useless. If you're thinking about purchasing so you can enjoy a Commonwealth faction, wait until Guards Armored are released and we have time to digest the deck.

>>
>>176454692
French shermans are cheaper than third armored's, so there might be some bias. Also almost all the penetration and armor stats seem to be completely arbitrary - for example the wartime churchill avre only had 100mm for the upper glacis but with some spare tracks manages to be better armored than a panther. Also, the stug 3 and stug 4 both had 80mm for the drivers plate but since 4 is a bigger number it gets 2 more armor points.

Lanes refers to how the terrain is broken up to slot each player into an equally sized portion of each map depending on the map size (2v2, 4v4). This is immediately obvious to everyone but leave it to some retard on 4chins to think it's roads. Also, this kind of map design was absent from the wargame titles.

And we finally get to the main reason behind anon's autism. He doesn't like how in SD44 they scrap the objectives and replace it with a dynamic line going across the map representing the objective. He doesn't like how it's now a game of tug-o-war.

You know instead of doing these mental gymnastics and "it's a MOBA, it has hero units" bullshit, you could have just said you don't like the new objectives. But no, you had to go the autistic route.

Very carefully

>>176460891
You just divided the map in four pieces. I mean, I guess if players taking zones is your definition of clearly defined lanes, gratz to you. But those aren't even lanes. A lane in moba is actually a defined action point. There's stuff in between them too, they don't take up the entire map. Those sections should be broken down into smaller sections of focus. Many of those places you have as "one lane" are quite isolated from each other due to terrain, and would completely separate unit compositions pushing there.

RUSE: Great
European Escalation: Godlike outside the reinforcement sniping exploits
>>
when the game requires you to hold a line going across the entire map, of course people are going to naturally divide the map into sections in a team game. "lanes" don't even have to be built into the map for that to happen (and they aren't, they're based on aerial photography for fuck's sake). it's just easier for micro and coordination.

I have no fucking clue how that means the game is a MOBA though, the argument is irrelevant. saying a unit you get one of because it's strong is a """hero unit""" is equally fucking retarded. it's not like KTs get special abilities with cooldowns or some shit, they're just expensive tanks with bigger numbers attached to them.

I think the people bitching about lanes have an issue but they're associating it to the wrong criticism. The lane thing refers to map design that encourages players to only care for their own piece of clay, basically turning larger games into just a number of 1v1s.

Which is how it works in SD, but it's not because of map design. It's because flanking is hard. Like, to get threatened from an ally's position (=which is when you start caring about more than your own piece of frontline), that ally has to collapse completely. I don't know if it's because the maps are too narrow, or too short, or if the units are too slow or too inaccurate, or something different causing it.
>>
>people bitching about "lanes"

Avenues of Approach are, strangely, one of the aspects of Steel Division that are done well and found in most traditional wargames. Of all the shit you could complain about with SD (and there's a lot), you fuckers are complaining about one of the few things that makes this operate like an actual wargame. Unreal.

That's how it worked in every Eugen game since W:EE. You drop your flare at the start and don't care about the rest of the map.
>>
>>176464504
You drop your flare to indicate what part of the map you're defending with a basic line of infantry, recon and what not.

Then you have a mobile force that you combine with someone else to make a push and have that local superiority of mass.

Unless you're a scrub of course.
>>
>>176464504

It's a bigger problem now because you can't build a Jack of all trades deck like you could in Wargame. The divisions have different specializations, some are outright support divisions like the 21st, the lane mentality has to go.
