How do you even cheat in a killing game?

Sayaka Maizono gets an invitation into the Hope's Peak Academy as the Lucky Student and is the protagonist. In chapter 1 gets killed for breaking the rules. Mukuro Ikusaba is revealed to be protagonist's love interest but gets killed by Sakura Ogami as a form of self-defense. In chapter 2 Hifumi Yamada kills Toko Fukawa in order to try and keep the secret. In chapter 3 Leon Kuwata convinces Aoi Asahina to kill Celestia Ludenberg because of Monokuma's motive. In chapter 4 Junko Enoshima kills himself/herself to prevent further murders. In chapter 5 our protagonist gets saved by bullshit. In chapter 6 Makoto Naegi is revealed to be the mastermind who accepts defeat and kills himself/herself. Remaining surivivors are: Kyoko Kirigiri, Kiyotaka Ishimaru, Mondo Owada, Byakuya Togami, Chihiro Fujisaki and the protagonist.

I like this version much more than the real DR1.

I like him a lot when the narrative isn’t making him super sexist. I don’t mind his “this is what a real man looks like!” stuff about himself because that’s just silly macho posturing to beef his own self-confidence. The shit I don’t like is when he forces it on other characters–when he’s berating Gonta for being timid or kind, or telling HaruMaki that girls can’t do shit like kill people.

And even then, I’d be a-okay with it if the story treated it like one of his character flaws, the way that everyone knows that Chabashira’s MENaces thing is ridiculous, but it doesn’t. It just…plays it straight. That really bothers me because otherwise Momota’s such a likeable character.

I considered coming up with some bullshit excuse as to why the outline isn't finished when it's supposed to, but you guys deserve better than that. The main cause of the delay is the fact that I have a giant procrastination problem, and the fact that I have too many interests. I wrote something non-Danganronpa related for a different site. True, I do think though that those player-only scenes like the ones in chapter 2 and 3 are very important towards piecing the mystery together especially considering that stuff like the meteors and the subsequent sickness going around is somewhat related to Kaito.

It feels to me like some of the cast have pieces of the puzzle, like how unusual it is that Hoshi's a SHSL Prisoner and IIRC the setup of his talent lab was used in his murder.

Well, I did think it was to odd have such a motive at the start even if one assumes that the reality show twist is literally true (As in implanted talents, scripting etc.). So, if we go by it being a parallel to DR1 you have this:

1) Shirogane kills Amami but Kaede also gets involved= Junko killing Mukuro but off-screen unlike before, and Kaede 'killing' Amami might be seen as a reverse of Sayaka and Leon

2) Kaede is framed and killed off= Sayaka being first victim, as well as the first victim who dies in a trial

So in other words that motive might have been meant to have the mastermind be able to kill Amami and get off scot-free just like how Mukuro doesn't get a trial seeing that the one who killed her isn't actually a participant.

Though on that note I went to read the prologue again and there's something at the start about how the story isn't over and a new killing game is starting again, I like how that could be a reference to the player whose last game was SDR2 or it could be meaning V3 is the sequel to V2.

That's an interesting way to look at it. For us, DR2/DR3 were the last killing games before V3 and for the audience in universe, V2 was the last killing game before V3.

I would actually recommend Umineko to people for this reason, on top of being a murder mystery where magic and fantasy is both used as a ruse to distract you but also as guides towards the truth it's filled with plenty of sentences that have more than one meaning.

That's part of why I ended up concluding HICKSHON isn't something to be accepted or rejected fully, especially considering the little we know only ever confirmed V2 and V3 as having real deaths and the implications are pretty strong that assuming all 53 games are the same is a big mistake logic-wise.

So in essence when we come across something like this we should figure out how it fits into the bigger picture rather than pushing it away.
