Farming at Hemwick is the best thing you can do in early game. Warp to Witch's Abode with 10 or so Blood vials, Oedon Writhe, Heir and Moon runes. Then visceral the 3 Axe Ogres and the one Brick Ogre nearby, then pop blood bullets and BHM back to the lamp. Repeat until you're out of BHMs.

With the correct runes and good luck, you should get like 15K Blood echoes and 14 Blood vials per a single run.

With Oedon Writhe you're also not using up your bullets if you want to conserve them but if you have a million bullets, you could also just use Blood Rapture to gain the health back from viscerals and use Blood bullets.

Key point is "until death", so if you encounter a hard boss in Dark Souls you can just heal without a care in the world because you'll have more at the next bonfire, while in Bloodborne you have to think twice because you might die and not have enough for next areas, also, you can carry way more vials than estus so you're not completely discouraged about using them.

Yep, that was also the design philosophy in DeS : they allowed you to restock heals at enemies so the devs didn't have to pepper checkpoints everywhere like Dark Souls does with it's bonfire system.

DeS and Bloodborne had the most satisfying levels and I think a lot of that is due to the healing system which is balanced to give you a good number of heals and the ability to restock, but as a counter to that, they expect you to go for longer in a level without restocking to full.

In DaS3 especially you can see how they cut up a lot of the levels to unsatisfying bite-sized pieces because of the very limited heals you got and getting Estus back from enemies was unreliable.
