So I've been thinking..

There are a couple LW1 perks that I take because they've been recommended to me, but might be suboptimal for my playstyle, especially for the initial roster:

>LCPL medic
I take Steadfast on most medics, but suppression would be really useful and in practice steadfast is both a nonvital bonus and one that only kicks in lategame. So I think next campaign I'll put suppression on all medics except one guy with 40 will.

>LCPL rocketeer
Common wisdom is to take HEAT, but the primary job of the rocketeer isn't to kill robots, it's to shred them. Rockets are a panic button against stuff in general, so ranger would help outright kill floaters and make the carbine or SMG on the rocketeer more useful. Late game rocketeers can take HEAT again to deal with multi-mech pods.

>engineer
I'm thinking of ditching HEAT altogether here and using support engineers only. Early game it's never simultaneously possible and productive to land a grenade on a drone. Later on HEAT grenades do help a lot against mechtoids, but the same guy could be aciding instead.

------Suppression on medics is only useful early game. They will eventually die. Suppression soldiers need tanking perks and gear since they will be shot at and will be hit eventually guaranteed.
------ You need as many sources of HEAT as possible and shredder ammo can be produced. You can also equip shredder rockets regardless.
------HEAT engineers are great if you know how to handle activations. If you can bait drones, seekers etc into buildings you can guarantee your HEAT engineer will be useful on specific maps. THAT SAID support Engis are probably better since their utility of carrying all the support nades while being able to throw them 20% further is too good. Support nader > HEAT nader imo, but I like to build one HEAT for building maps.

LW Mec chopping screen says that a measure of above-average will is retained, how does that work exactly?
>>
>>176118286
If the soldier's will stat is above the median the mec will receive a proportional bonus. If below the median they will start at the median.

Very useful if someone is crit wounded.
>>
>>176114659
Mirrors are only reflective in a certain spectrum. Often times they're reflective over the visible spectrum. Xcom could easily use a frequency that is non reflective.

Not to mention the logistical concerns of outfitting an entire fleet and how strong alien alloys are.
>>
>>176118520
Do you know if it's a proportional bonus or outright keeping the pre-chop will score?

There's a rapid reaction overwatch rocketeer spec that's perfectly viable that picks up ranger over HEAT.
Ranger > Rapid Reaction > Platform Stablility/Shredder > Opportunist > Extra Con > Whatever

Platform Stablility is kind of huge since its bonus applies to all shots taken on overwatch if you didn't move.

For comparison with infantry.
Rocketeers get 21 aim at MSGT, 2 from RR, 3 from EC.
Infantry get 21 aim at MSGT, could get 2 from sharpshooter but you'd want LNL, could get 4 from EC but you usually get VPT.

With platform stability activated rocketeers get 15 aim over infantry, so it's as if they had the deadeye infantry has but they don't need to give up ranger to have it. You lose 1-2 damage depending on whether the infantry went for deadeye or ranger and gain the ability to shoot rockets.

I don't know anything about hardware, but I have annoying load times despite 16gb ram. Presumably it has to be installed on an SSD to avoid that.

So I haven't played Long War in a while.

I managed to somehow forget to build a sattelite in the first month, so it won't be ready until halfway through month two.

Is it worth restarting? That's gotta be a massive loss long-term considering how crucial early resources are.

I spent resources on tactical layer stuff instead at first so it could be worse.
>>
>>176139113
I'd restart, not because that run is necessarily doomed, but because if I lost the campaign I would be tortured wondering if I threw it away the first month, and making up a month of LW doesn't take too long. It's totally up to you either way.

True, but mechanical units are easy enough to deal with in the late game - mectoids panic to psi easy and sectopods can't handle suppression with smoke
Only cyberdisks are terrible to deal with but mecs and gunners suck against them anyway
>>

So is the overwatch gunner going to clean things up your other classes couldn't? And are you just building a council request soldier for late game, or do you need to consider how useful that class will be in the early to midgame? Objectively heat gunners are better, but you could be working from some specifics where an over-watch gunner is good.

>hate lw1 infantry

I mean they aren't the best they've ever been but I'd like to hear why you hate them.

They're essentially carries in early game, being able to fire twice in one turn is powerful on it's own, but in vanilla it's matched with heavies with poor aim. Mixing firing twice with good aim progression and other abilities that increase crit, damage and aim, you can develop soldiers that can reliably hit enemies in half cover pretty early on into LW.

The images are taken using a literal camera: A sensor and a photo flash (neccessary because of Post-Process effects not applying to the sensor). This means that you'll have a short flashing light when a photo is taken.

The images are created by inserting little markers into certain animations. When that marker is hit, a capture is attempted. This is because there are a lot of bad times to capture an image, such as when the unit has closed eyes etc.
The animations are the peek animations for units that can take cover, the idle animations for units that don't take cover.
Additionally, for soldiers, the markers are added to the idle-in-cover animations.
This means that modded units should work, with the exception of units that aren't just re-colors / re-sizes. From the top of my head, I recall Drones and the Celatid. They will get added at some point.

If a capture takes longer than 150ms, the image is discarded. This is because the unit may turn away during that time, resulting in the image not framing the head correctly.
If a unit is currently not visible on the screen, the capture will not be taken. This is because the attachments (hair, helmet etc.) are only updated when the unit is shown.

We are playing XCOM. This means that even the camera can miss from time to time. Should an image be just bad, there is a little red X above the currently selected unit in Quick Soldier Info. Clicking it clears the picture, and a new image will be taken as soon as possible.
You should move the unit somewhere else before clicking that button, or it's likely that the new image will be equally bad.

>2)Jake spoke at PAX East on March 10th on the growing pains of rebooting XCOM

All he needed to do was create a moddable EW but underwater to mix it up a bit aesthetically, more polished and bug free and better visuals. Instead he chose to rebuild the engine which completely broke the game tactically. So now we have less strategy map and less tactical options since LOS is as bad as terror missions in EW.

>tfw doing Psychiatry rotation

Had a guy with social anxiety come in. He wanted to hang out with friends and coworkers at bars and stuff but honestly he preferred going home and playing WoW.

He also had a daily routine that he was very adamant about. I suppose it was British politeness but he probably wanted to say that he really did not fucking like to break his daily routine.

Psychiatrist advised him to perhaps take things in stride. Go on a Friday or weekend with friends but don't stay at the bar/restaurant the whole night. Take things in stride slowly, 30 minutes, 1 hour, etc.

Surprisingly even though I was a student I was asked for advice. I said to go with friends to wherever they're going but keep it part of the daily routine. So you're grabbing food as takeout for yourself and you chat with a few of them along the way.

Anyway, I'm in the same boat as you. Pretty sure I know only 1 person IRL who likes XCOM. The rest of my friends play Monster Hunter or some other. Shit, the girl I like doesn't even play video games aside from the occasional Mario Kart.

Fire Emblem Heroes drew a lot of players. Might want to look into that.

Scouts can't shoot across the map, but have lightning reflexes. I find them closer to faster, utlility-focused infantry than a sniper. The earlygame scout can use low cover and shoots once, like a BR infantry [but BR infantry can also do other cute things like fire+steady, at the cost of no lightning reflexes]. Lategame scouts shoot multiple times like AR infantry, but trade all the crit and damage perks of it for neat tricks like the ability to use low cover, battlescanners, LR.

They're a very hard class to grasp at first because their perk choice is so varied they're in practice a mix between like four classes.

Officer Bradford? Yeah, I know him by that name. Hell, I worked with him in '15. Back then we called him John "Sweater Central" Bradford because he never came to work without that green sweater of his.
Most would call him insane, but that is why the council chose him. They saw potential. It wasn't until they learned his lines that they truly realized what a monster they hired.
You see, most guys that go ayy-hunting take guns. Not John. No, he took swords, ka-bars, arc throwers, sometimes nothing but his bare hands. After a few missions I got a chance to talk to him in the mess. He was wearing his blood-stained sweater, headset, and dress pants, talking to Vahlen and drinking Chrysalid poison. It was contraband, but you NEVER told Central what he could and couldn't do.
I asked him why he never took guns with him. He lowered is head and told Vahlen to fuck off for a moment, pulled off his headset and looked me right in the eyes, piercing my soul.
"I do it out of respect. Respect for the human race. These space-AIDs infected scumbags don't deserve the mercy of an Earth-made bullet, but the slow torturous death of the hands of a human!"
In a flash he pulled out his weathered, but razor sharp knife and stopped just short of sticking my gut. "The look in their eyes when I slip this baby into their swollen, psi-controlled brains is reason enough. To see the last lights flick off in their heads as they see a real killer work."

I'm struggling with thin men on early game crashed scouts. Lowrank soldiers are very slow at killing them. Easy missions like this are ones where I expect to get to the meld too, so it's a big waste when everyone gets too bogged down healing acid and hunkering and there's no time to go get the goodies.

What tactics or highrank soldiers do you use for April-May crashed UFOs?

>Pretty sure I know only 1 person IRL who likes XCOM.

I know literally one person IRL who I even bothered playing video games with past high school, they're pretty much my closest friend sure but I know literally nobody else from IRL.

Your best 'gaming' friends are most likely going to come from the net, from communities, from teamspeaks, clans or just discords/chats etc. from my experience and from other people I speak to.

Depending on the country you're in and if you look for people of your own nationality, you might end up meeting up with some of them or organising events, if you live in a larger country not so much.

Honestly I think Xcom 2 has spread itself too wide, though I do like the game itself.

The DLC expansions for Xcom 2 so far feel like sectioned off, instanced things that don't fit in super well with the base game, something feels off about them, even sparks to a degree.

I guess you could say the same about EW but I feel that Long War 1 pulled everything together into one narrative and story, like a complete package. 2 is still finding it's feet, then again I wasn't playing Long War back when it was an EU thing.
>>
>>176229364
They don't fit well because they're more like character side stories that don't impact the main story in any way at all, whether it be filling in the gaps or expanding on the lore.

I assume they designed it that way intentionally so you don't feel like you're missing out on too much for not purchasing DLC
>>
>>176229364
I wouldn't say the same about EW, EW is implemented in a way that goes perfectly alongside the base game's narrative of "How far are we willing to go to achieve victory"

>>176232786
>>176229364
EW is integrated, but the dlc for X2 is pretty much just like X1's dlc. Side stories that have unique difficult missions, not randomly generated characters, and big rewards.

I think the difference being is that alot of /xcg/ compares the DLC's to EW which was a full expansion pack itself. In such i was hoping though that xcom 2 in general would have a bit more story like missions and split off missions that X1 in the first place.

Well, part of the beauty of LW is that there's no decisively correct choice, it's about what you want and what you need. I think a lot of people get MECs in the summer [something like adv beam->mec]. Personally I do the capture stuff when I find myself with money, summer it tends to all go into sats and workshops and gear..

>the PP ayys just look like Demons to me, especially that one.

This. There is already an overload of fantasy TBS, I really don't like that they are ditching the sci-fi feel for that. I wanted ayys combined with our underwater species instead. Little octopusses with sectoid heads, mutons with shark heads and ethereals that are squidlike, plus a million other things you could do. Instead we have something that looks like a TBS souls game.

IS sci-fi ded?

But why? Are you trying to say media with monsters in it is not sci-fi? You would have to throw alot of sci-fi books, shows, and games into the fantasy bin then. I really doubt you could produce a definition that properly separates sci-fi and fantasy while throwing stuff like Phoenix Point definitively into the fantasy bin. I mean, that's like saying System Shock 2 is fantasy.
>>
>>176263805
I mean, Phoenix Point is going for a Lovecraft vibe, so it may be "fantasy" in that sense, but we also mentioned last thread that Gollop wanted to do Terror from the Deep right, and TftD was pretty lovecraftian too (T'Leth, Deep Ones, and so on)

I find that the number decreases the more continents you have. Since the aliens have a set number of missions and a lot of them always go to countries with a sat, putting up more just tends to spread the interceptions out, not increase how many you have to do.

I think EU's health bars are perfect, they fit in and they aren't intrusive, to me at least. They fit in less when LW1's tougher enemies show up, but by that point you've been losing them a lot and are used to them so they don't really break immersion. And it's way more functional than vanilla X2's minimalistic bullshit, but that goes without saying.

I want an XCOM style game where guns are relevant the whole time. And, in general, I'd very much like to see some more human-made weapons put to use against the aliens. Especially those that are forbidden by the UN conventions. Tanks, artillery, thermobaric explosives, chemical weapons, cluster bombs, mines, incendiary weapons, and the rest of it.

I'd pay double for a game that has a scene where the aliens are bombed with white phosphorus and the effect is shown in detail. Skrt of like in Spec Ops The Line.

>>
>>176298637
>Skrt of like in Spec Ops The Line.
I tried to like this, but I found the whole thing so over-bearing. And then I got to the part where "you" supposedly white phosphorous all the cives, except that I never even actually fired at them, the game just decided that one of my shots scratched the "kill all the civies" hitbox, so then the game is all like "omg look what you did you terrible person," but I didn't do it, the game did it, which kinda ruined the entire impact of it and soured everything.
>>
>>176303108
I think it hits them regardless of where you shoot, because of wind or because it's downhill or whatever. The action happens in a narrow canyon and the phosphorus has nowhere to go really. I didn't even realize he's shooting special ammo from that mortar, until the whole bawling started.

I felt a disconnect with the main character since it was unclear to me why he's doing this in the first place. Like, I expected him to go home after the very first skirmish with the militia five minutes in. The initial discussion about the mission with his squad was something about them being on a recon mission to find locals, they found locals, locals shot at them, that's the time they should make a report. So I didn't find it overbearing because I didn't identify with MC, it was more amusing watching an idiot keep plunging head first into a mess for some reason.
>>
Christ, I just lost two of my best people on my very first alien assault on the Avenger. What a horrible way to pop my cherry. I thought the mission would finish after I destroyed the beacon.
>>
Why do people prefer to toss battlescanners at seekers again? Shooting at a strangling seeker that does 1 damage is way preferable to shooting at one that flies in your face and crits you for 4..
>>
>>176303108
>>176303726
Well yeah, the game is kinda meh, but it's at least self-aware. The PC's an idiot and everyone keeps telling him about it, but he's too stubborn to admit it.

That scene is powerful, but very hit-or-miss. I liked it, for one.

>>176298637
I always liked committing atrocities to aliens in SMAX, Stellaris, and the like. The picture of a hundred meter high wall of nerve gas just rolling over the alien bases, and the slowly growing crescendo of shrieks, and half-burned squids with their slimy flesh falling off in lumps clawing at their faces, must be a sight to behold. I have a very vivid imagination, yeah.
>>
>>176304738
Because seekers are dicks and their AI is unshackled, so they can do evil shit like strangle half your squad.

So I've beaten vanilla XCOM 2 on Normal, Commander, and Legend. 2 campaigns modded for difficulty, one on Commander the other on Legend. Got about halfway through Long War 2 on Commander and was doing well but got bored with it so I dropped it.
I went back and played XCOM:EU/EW for the first time on Classic and then a follow up playthrough on Impossible. I now want to try Long War 1 on Classic but they're really pushing the "Start with Normal" ideal on me even if you're pretty experienced with XCOM at this point.
Should I listen and start with Normal or just fucking go for Classic.
>>
>>176318884
in that context yeah you are right

>>176319014
I'd just go with normal, but I don't think going classic would be too bad for you.
>>
>>176318134
Aside from nuclear weapons, I never got why the UN tries to ban weapons. War should be dealt with quickly and be as horrible as humanly possible. I'm talking about quadropedal tanks that use people as grease for its joints and chemical weapons that liquefy anyone in the vicinity.

We'd be microwaving jihadis by now if the generals weren't such pussies about cooking people alive from 3 kilometers away.

If you're at war, you already fucked up anyways.

most of the time the soldiers on the field couldn't give less of a shit what the fighting is about, and quite a lot of time have no other option than become soldiers (say forcibly recruited or starving due to wartime conditions) yet they are the ones getting liquified or bathed in agonizing pain for the rest of their life be it 1 seconds or 40 years, on top of the bystanders and civilians for generations to come (minefields, unexploded armaments, mutations/diabilites in offsprings due to chemical exposure).
Weapons bans protect these people, think of them as work-safety regulations.

I'm all in for WPing gunho hillibillies, fanatics, or the retards in charge (on the political level) who has the least to lose, but problem is, most of the time its the above group who gets the pain, so accidentay humanely killing the latter group, to avoid scarring the first one is a price we should be willing to pay.

Ok, so what exactly are the differences between LW1 and LW2, aside from the obvious, resulting from the differences between X1 and X2?
Asking as someone who only played LW2.
>>
>>176322746
Fatigue. Soldier go on missions, and then have a cooldown. You can send them out on a mission during this cooldown, but they will be wounded at the end of the mission automatically.
This mechanic creates the large rosters of LW. LW2's equivelent is the infiltration system with muiltiple missions happening at the same time.
Armor damage and health damage are seperate. So for a soldier to be wounded, they have to have all their armor hp stripped first.
Airgame is a really big deal compared to vanilla. The strategic game as a whole.
No stealth stuff, no timers for standard missions.
No alien re-inforcements. Alien research in LW (leads to more advance ayys, and upgrades existing ayys) is the equivalent of Dark Events in LW2
There's probably more. Alot of the differences are X1 vs. X2.
>>
>>176323568
How is the airgame expanded in LW? I always thought the airgame in vanilla was pretty lame.
>>
>>176324632
your planes die more
>>
>>176322746
MEC troopers have 8 classes. Late game rosters are packed with gene-auged officers and psis, and a ton of limbless wonders.

Fatigue system is better than infiltration. There's technically a system that lets council members resist aliens themselves, but it's not particularly effective. LW2 is a comeback from the start, LW1 starts with you in control of the globe, and researching until you feel strong enough to start taking the council members back.
>>
>>176324632
You cry in joy or anger alot.
>>
>>176322746
Well, they're completely different games. LW1 focuses on long firefights with only one mission type being sneaky, LW2 has a lot more. Meld encourages aggressive play but doesn't make it mandatory.

Both LW1 and LW2 have mechanics that force you to hold back. In LW2 you do this by sending smaller squads. In LW1 you do it by sending full size squads, but of less experienced soldiers.

Because the game is entirely combat, and because it's been around for years, a lot more balancing work has gone into how the ayys and the player classes fit with each other. There's multiple paths to augmenting from the base classes, there are officers like LW2 but there are also super classes [MEC], psi, gene mods, so basically everyone gets augmented in some way.

LW1 has repair, airgame, manufacturing, the strategy layer is a lot more about managing resources. In LW2 you customize soldiers before a mission by swapping weapon mods, in LW1 you do with stat-boosting small items and weapon variations [for example there's two types of sniper].
>>
>>176324632
You need a very robust air-fleet, need to invest in upgrades, and UFOs are very active in causing panic, scouting, and trying to shoot down your planes. UFOs also are tough to take down.
>>
>>176324632
The UFOs start out a lot stronger than you so you have to pick your battles. Also, there's a lot of investments you can make in your interceptors, but they take research/resources the same as everything else, so you're trading off tactical against airgame investments.
>>
I haven't played LW2 to the endgame, but isn't the lethality there higher too? Perks are generally stronger, like say bullet wizards being condensed in a single perk.

For posterity:
>Beaglerush is a lot of things. For one, she’s a free spirit, meaning she lets her natural impulses control her body. Good thing her impulses aren’t to build schools in Africa but rather to get schooled in fucking in California. She’s a book nerd who looks great wearing glasses, especially when they’re stained with jizz and she’s not wearing anything else. She’s a nature lover, meaning she loves all things natural like hard nipples, boners and anal sex. She’s an exercise junky, meaning she loves repetitive thrusting motions that make her sweat and leave her ass quivering from the workout. Yes, August Ames is many things, but one thing she isn’t, is too proud to have good old fuck frenzies for money in front of a camera.

How much are you allowed to fuck up in long war 1 on normal?

I researched basic laser weapons and two months in I'm just now getting around to finishing alien containment research/ ark thrower research.

I was able to save 9 civies on the first terror mission and took no wounds but the meld canisters are giving me 15 each and that's scaring the shit out of me.

I haven't failed any missions but I feel like I've used my time sub-optimally.

Any worthwhile mods similar to the LW Perk Pack? I need something new to freshen up my next campaign, I love having a complete class overhaul but the LW PP is just a bit too overpowered

Also is ABA2 still king?

Still not particularly interested in LW2 until the memory leak is sorted if ever
>>
>>176338267
you get memory leaks in lw2 that odd
>>
>>176338237
You're doing okay, all high meld amounts mean is the aliens have a lot of resources, which is practically guaranteed early game. In fact, you'll be glad you have stored up a bunch of meld later on when the aliens are down and all your projects need meld. Just focus on building your air game, getting labs and workshops (foundry and mec bay first) and leveling soldiers.
>>
>>176338582

I would like an XCOM where they went through a portal (like stargate) created by the volunteer, only to find you have to fight your way through to each portal, gaining resources, tech and experience as you progress. You encounter different ayy forms and have to survive through harsh environments and enemies while progressing to new worlds through the portals. In the end you make it back to earth and start up the XCOM project to protect earth from the impending ayy attack.

So basically like a prequel that was caused by the volunteer at the end of XCOM1.
>>
>>176338690
So since I've already got a workshop, repair bay and the foundry on the way should I set up a lab as soon as I get enough power?
>>
>>176339467
So long as it doesn't impact any other construction, yes. Labs are less important than workshops, but it makes a big difference.

You may want to consider advanced salvage or alien metallurgy once the foundry is complete. The earlier you get them, the better. However, elerium will be the primary gate on your development and manufacture late game, so it's not strictly necessary.
>>
>>176336141

Should be pretty easy. You just need to manually copy your x-com files into the openxcom folders.

I really enjoy those 4 man covert extraction missions. With motion scanners the stealth play in those mission is so tense and fun, sneaking around EXALT LOS and then shitting yourself when you activate them and get ready to improvise. Having heaps of fun with Long War even though it's tough and scary at times. No other games give that tense feel than the x-com franchise. XCOM2 even still has it but less so because of the new mechanics.

Holy shit, I am getting shat on by the viper king. Ruler rules seem like complete and total bullshit. I haven't been using the dlc weapons but I guess I need to start because this is ridiculous. I'm tired of having perfect runs and suddenly everything goes to shit because of this enemy.
>>
>>176373839

Yes, you are correct. Go play some other game if you are a casual and need handholding.
>>
>>176374181

You need to use more grenades and status effects if you don't want to use the DLC weapons(i don't know why you wouldn't want to).
>>
>>176373839

I don't remember EW showing you alien skills before the ayys use them on you.
>>
> Tried to salvage the mission.
> Called down evac.
>Viper King grabs and kills my wounded heavy. (I think he reacted to the evac call, might be wrong on that)
>Have young sniper move to evac.
>Viper King moves to evac zone.
>Realize that my senior sniper would be alone with the Viper King and a full pod.
>Hold off on evac to move my senior sniper, using youngblood as bait.
>Senior sniper moves to evac.
>Viper King uses AOE freeze.

Y'know what, let's just uninstall that DLC.
>>
>>176374872
Fuck, you even get a tell on the faceless through a cutscene in XCOM 2.
>>
>>176375882

Your mistake was not filling him with bullet holes, Alien Rules run away if they get hit a lot.
>>
>>176376551

Silly me. How obvious. I should have just shot him more.

No, my real problem was that I couldn't isolate a pod while heading towards a timed objective, ended up out of time with 3 pods and 2 turrets all surrounding the mission objective, and dumb bitch me was left with the choice to try and do a smash grab or evac. It was a dark event mission. Thought I'd figured it out.

I realize I'm the one who made the mistake, but I still feel like Rulers are a little too unforgiving in an already unforgiving game.
>>
>>176376758

Rulers are pretty much traps, if you step on them without knowing things can go downhill pretty fast, if you know they are there, you can take them out fairly easily, even if you don't manage to kill them in one turn, it's relatively simple to make them run.

Except for the third ruler, if you don't have beam weapons by then chances are that he wont run even if you ambush him and then he'll ruin your life.
>>
Ok, which fuck from LW2 thought it was a good idea to make alien rulers spawn again after you killed them?
>>
>>176376758
Assuming you're >>176374181, you made the mistake from the start by not getting weapons that DLC gives, IIRC that bald black science guy(forgot his name) even tells you to do so, those weapons are OP and you simply need them if you don't know what you're doing
>>
>>176377141

Yeah, that's me. I really did just uninstall the DLC. I haven't beaten the core game yet, barely seen half I'm sure, so I figure it's fine. I'll deal with it later.

That said, I don't recall any dialog on these critters. They felt super out of left field. Like I was supposed to know about them, but there wasn't anything that led up to it. When does the dialog introducing them occur?
>>
>>176377453
Not introducing them but IIRC when you choose the mission to go there, the guy should say "I'm picking up dangerous signals" or something, "Commander you should probably use those weapons you got from that crash." I don't remember exactly what he said but he says something like this, that was the reason I bought those weapons with me to that mission
>>
>>176356092
I don't like roscosmos because it makes you miss out on that sweet +1hp bonus for infantry/assault that you get from satting up Russia normally.
>>
>>176377453

Sounds like you disabled the DLC when you started the campaign and didn't read what the game says when you do, when you disable the DLC all it does is disable the missions that triggers the DLC and gives you all the DLC content right of the bat.

Normally you are supposed to go through a story mission where you fight the Viper King at the end.
>>
>>176377719
Oh mother fuck. Yeah. That is what I did. Jeez. I was wondering why I had these out of place, ridiculous looking weapons available to me. I thought it was a lame reference to some other product the developers made.

The plan always was to do a clean run, but when I saw Steam already had them installed and that I could just disable them, I thought I was good to go. And then in comes king jackass and I realize that it was definitely not in the game when I briefly played it a year back.

Well, guess that's that then.
>>
>>176378092

I don't blame you, they really should've made it more clear. If you want to actually disable the DLC you have to do it from your library page on steam. That said, i suggest that if you want to play without the DLC you just leave them enabled when you start the campaign, and just don't do the DLC missions. That way you never get any of the DLC content, you might actually get a cutscene for Shen's Last Gift now that i think about it though.
>>
>>176378092
I didn't even know about this DLC shit before I went to Vahlen's hideout. I should've never have gone there on the first month. We can barely survive a mission and now a modified berserker just raped my entire team. They should've locked this shit on the sixth month or something.
>>
On my second vanilla campaign I played with the Rules DLC, and both the berserker queen and the archon bugged out and would just stand in place forever and let me shoot them. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Well, the Long War stream isn't a tutorial series, he just explains some of the differences to vanilla along the way. The Bureau videos are slightly edited for brevity. I know i'm in the minority here but does anyone else thing the actual profile & silohette of the ADVENT sectopod is superior to the EU/EW one? Yeah i have to agree about the Mutons as well. I did enjoy the FOOTBALL mutons of EW but i get more of a competent military force feeling from xcom 2's Mutons especially their Centurions & Elites which though they are partially based on Krogan armor designs i just LOVE the armor. One of the reasons i installed playable aliens was to field some of those centurains. Goddamn that armor is sweet as hell. Biggest critism i have of the current Mutons is that it's hard to unsee the whole head is a cockhead thing & that i feel they could have kept a subset of "tankier" mutons that was more along the old muton design since the Elders & ADVENT apperently have 4000 varients of mutons from floaters, to archons, etc.

I goddamned love berserkers design. Just tossing all armoring & caution to the wind to bioenginener a massive slab of muscle & hate that can smash your most experienced soldiers into peices & tear apart SPARKs. It's just a real shame that they don't get all those movement bonuses & perks they had in Xcom which means normally they're dead before they get into effective range & you don't need to fall back just to deal with one showing up. That along with the fact that in vanilla they only show up for a short period of time & normally not in full pods which were designed to fuck your face.

The faceless i think are pretty damned cool. They've got a little bit of a "The Thing" vibe going on as they actively can impersonate people enough to completely replace them. Shame that their actual combat form isn't more of a biological horror or anything. Perhaps if they could form armor or launch projectiles as well they'd be better.

I remember a few threads ago some anon was bringing up their headcanon for faceless, that they weren't master saboteurs but actually replacing the people mind & body. Their target's memories, thoughts & feelings copied over into a faceless to be the perfect sleeper agent that could unwittingly serve ADVENT & be activated at any time & their whole identity dying at activation; or maybe not? Perhaps something of "their" old life remains?

The new Pectoid is actually freaky looking, plus judging by all the SFM smut being made with them in it fearboners abound. Shame that they don't appear in the same numbers or pods they did in EW. People pointing out things they dislike about something = general negative sentiment.

There's outliers of people that think XCom 2 is the Worst Game Ever(tm) or that think XCom EU was some kind of untopped masterpeice or that OG XCom is the only game that should ever be refered to as XCOM lest you commit eternal sin, but overall I don't think there's been a time where generally people have bandwagoned hate against a particular game.

Would've made the body armor more regal looking too, to better represent its supposed to be the vessel of an Ethereal. The current body armor would be fine for our remote controlled Avatar though.
>>
>>176422239
Honestly if they'd have gone all out with the hair. Maybe 3-4 times as long & done a whole suspended crown of hair or something to that effect to be more ethereal it could have sold the design a lot more. Perhap playing up the opulence of the Avatar as well. They're too utilitarian looking for the ultimate goal of the Elders

So my positioning has broken the Outsider AI, and all he does is run back and forth between the same two spots overwatching. But his positions are so awkward I can't approach either.

Looks like more of a LW than LW2. It even looks like it has tons of MAGNIFICENCE
>>
I liked EXALT as a whole. The designs are really cool. The sleek guns are tens of times better than XCOM's, which look like they are made of fucking cardboard and plywood.

And the lasers, too. I can absolutely see a regular gun being converted into a laser gun in a hurry. If it uses chemical-based "ammo", like capsules filled with the substance found in flashbangs, it's noteven that hard - tweak the inner workings, stick some lenses inside and in front. Maybe replace the barrel. Falls in line with EXALT using their own tech and not being funded by anyone.

And the whole concept of a transhumanist terrorist organization is cool as fuck. Were they defeated in canon? In XCOM 2 it's possible to give your guys a yellow-orange bandana. Could they have joined forces with the Resistance?
>>
>>176437260
Jake said that EXALT was crushed pretty quickly after XCOM, the aliens were looking to share power. The bandanna should just be seen as fanservice.
>>

XCOM2 ayys, ADVENT and XCOM1 EXALT suck.

Just ayys.
>>
>>176437260
Lasers don't consume ammunition, at least in the same way firearms do.

The big issue with laser weapons are the power requirements necessary maintaining the coherent beam that makes it useful. Thermal blooming aside, it's not practical to use so much energy when it's better served elsewhere.

Well, XCOM partially survived. Maybe EXALT did too.

Honestly it would be cool to see disenfranchised (or not) ex-EXALT members in a campaign. Recruits, or NPCs like Zhang, or rivals, they had a lot of potential to be an interesting faction. Would be cool to have a three-way firefight. Or hell, maybe even play as them, since they clearly had more experience in acting as a decentralized covert resistance force.

>>176438023
A laser is a device that emits a beam of coherent light. Where the light comes from is another matter.
During the Cold War the Soviets even made an experimental laser gun for spacemen. It was fed by capsules filled with a chemical that produced a bright flash inside the "chamber", which was then reflected and focused through the "barrel". I think that counts as ammunition. Pic related, it emitted about 10 joules of energy - about the same as a BB gun - and was capable of permanently disabling cameras and eyes.
Since we're talking about sci-fi, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to have a compound that produces more energy. Elerium fits that perfectly.

Someone help me out with scan timings. Brutal diff. Here's how I scanned:

>23.05 miss
(they usually start with 2 cells, so having only 1 made me assume they'll get the second one up fast)
>24.05 hit
(I don't know why I scanned so soon after a hit..)
>31.05 hit
>07.06 hit
>18.06 miss

I made my first MEC a jaeger and kinda regret it. Does ITZ work on flying ayys at least, or is it like hit and run?

got some guardians and marauders coming up though
>>
>>176495526
>Does ITZ work on flying ayys at least
yes
>>
>>176495526
ITZ works on fliers. Hit and run requires a flank but ITZ says flanked or exposed. Despite flight showing up as a half cover icon it doesn't actually count as a cover. Perks that require cover like will to survive for example don't activate when flying.
>>
>>176495695
>>176495781
That's nice, the jaeger may turn out decent after all. I was disappointed that all her good perks are at the end, at this stage she's worse than her sniper form except for the part where she provides cover.

It's assumed you are going be up in the ayys faces with Marauders, and to shrug off that damage, and shit on melee units, it's pretty important. That next perk is close combat specialist right? Those two perks have perfect synergy.

>>176498012
the way i see it mecs can still equip alien trophy to give them steadfast if you really want it but you can't equip mecs with shock-absorbent (like you can with assaults using impact vest)
if you're 100% dedicated to going for a tank build alien trophy + shock-absorbent is better than whatever that free item slot would give you if you picked up steadfast as there's no item form of shock-absorbent for mecs
