I've been playing Path of Exile since 2011 closed beta and it's remarkable how far the game has come purely from crowd funding. The passion of the userbase is equally matched by it's developers. They've shown throughout the years to constantly improve and tweak the game with regularly scheduled content additions. I still feel I don't know everything there is to know about this game, and that isn't changing any time soon. Path of Exile is an incredibly complex and rewarding game that is definitely worth your time.

Outside of having an absurdly intricate skill tree and a fantastic crafting/currency system, the other large appeal of this game is the end-game. Most ARPGs fail to offer incentive to continue to play your character after you've exhausted the content. Usually this just comes in the form of a easily attainable level cap or grinding the same final zone of the game at length. Instead, in POE you are given item drop instances, as described by the developers:

"Maps can drop as normal, magic, rare or unique with higher rarity Maps yielding more items. Using a Map item opens six portals to the area, which can each only be used once. Like most other items in Path of Exile, Maps have mods that change their risks and rewards. Map mods can affect the size or complexity of the level, monster packs, monster properties or even alter characters while in the level. Players can modify Maps themselves using their currency items. For example, you can use an Orb of Transmutation to turn a normal Map into a magic Map, or use an Orb of Alteration to reroll its mods."

It goes to say that each and every map is a different experience, with room for countless variation in modifiers letting you push the limits of your character. Not all characters are equal. You will find that some characters that excell in early progression have difficulty in the end-game and visa versa. Each character I've made has informed the next which is critical in a game that rewards experience and skill.

Anyway back to map farming, cant rmt if you dont have anything.

I think everyone agrees there is a disparity between melee and ranged for viability at a top-tier level. What I do not understand is why damage values are so similar between melee and ranged weapons.

It makes no sense that x-y hit damage is within 10% of each other for these when one has to be melee, and one can put 4x projectiles (from flask) down range a screen or more away.

In my opinion the melee weapon should be damn near double the hit damage of bows. This makes sense for build viability as well as just common sense. Of course an arrow shouldn't do as much damage as a slash with a big-ass 2hand katana. Make that hit damage like 650-900!!

Quick story I have around 5k hours on Diablo 3 and I haven't touched Diablo 3 for about 1 year now because the game is utter garbage now because no no content no nothing and if they do add something it's something so small it's not even worth logging in.
Basically I want to main Path of exile and be my main game for many years I know no one has a time machine but the state of the game right now do you think this game will be popular for many years? How popular is PoE right now? How many daily log in?
I have some questions to ask also
Is the game paid to win? What exactly do you do in PoE? Is it like Diablo grind acts and find gear? Can you do co op play? Is 4 people max? I've heard that PoE has only season ranking? I don't like season so is there a normal mode and is that popular? Also about season what stuff do you keep at the end of season? Or does everything reset?
What playlist are there? Is this game similar to Diablo? Is this game RNG? Does this game take skill? Can people see your online stats etc? What's the max level? Is there a difficultyoption? How bad is botting? How often do ban wave come out?Diablo 3 is 98% bitters and 2% legit player hence why I quit.

Second league playing seriously, have played a few leagues prior but not more than one character making it to mapping, but Legacy is my first starting day one.
I thought after Breach ended, the only reason I never got to Guardians was my first build (chaos vortex) wasn't capable and I didn't have time for my HoWa to get get geared proper.
This league, FBtotem starter, Bflurry intended to be my end gamer but couldn't get through most t14 content, then made an EK nova build that destroy sextanted strand/vault with all the fixings and just am going broke buying sextants, rerolling maps for iir, and getting juicy stones. My RNG is garbage I am never recouping on my farming character. So my end game character I just can't afford the upgrades to get him over the ES hump I am encountering.
I can only play 4-6 hours a night, so I don't know if most players put in more time than I do, but I just can't seem to get over the hump to do t15-shaper content.
currently sitting with 3 characters at 91, ek nova, bflurry, aurabot. anyone know what i can do to get over the hump with one of these characters?

initial hit damage is scaled by stat
DOT is increased because initial hit is bigger

Diablo hasnt been grind acts and find gear since RoS. This game is just farming maps for gear or for currency so you can buy gear from other people.

The only ranking that PoE has is the people that are first to 100.
Yes there is a standard mode, similar to non-seasonal. Idk if it's popular. It's the same as in D3 where your character gets sent to standard/non-seasonal.

So your damage is typically hit + DoT, right? And DoT is proportional to hit, so the damage your hit does is hit + chit or (c+1)hit.

A linear scale would increase the value of hit, or the value of c, but not both. So increased DoT damage would be (c*incDot+1)hit. Increased hit damage would be (c+1)hit*incHit. It's called "double dipping" because what you end up with is a multiple in two places - (c*incDam + 1)hit*incDam.

That is to say, the hit is increasing, and also the proportion of hit damage that the DoT is based on is also increasing at the same rate. This creates a quadratic scale. It's a double dip because the multiplier is applied twice rather than once.

Jesus fuck I just tried d3 and there is basically no endgame at least here you get huge variety with maps and bosses, you also barely get items for other classes so you can't get an item that might push you into making another character.

Not saying Path of poe is perfect(its pretty much p2w) but its damn better content wise though I would prefer a proper skill system with cooldowns instead of spamming one skill over and over

you can't be fucking serious when you say that PoE has good "boss variety". The only thing PoE has that trumps D3s endgame is the "choose your own difficulty" playstyle with map modifiers and sextants, and even then people are STILL devolving said features day by day to be absolutely cancer.

I get what you're saying with the item thing but you don't really need multi-class drops when the droprates in D3 are already absurd to the point where a few hours of grinding can net you gorrilions of legendaries and sets

but boss variety is one thing that's better than poe. in poe there's only like 4 non end game bosses in the entire game that you need to know their abilities, everything else is hit them with your ability for 1.5 seconds and they die. in d3 it's different because bosses can take minutes in grifts so you become much more intimately familiar with their movesets, and their movesets are way more relevant.
