the final duel with him was legendary for me as it culminated everything i learnt to love about the game into one final moment
Zero playing in the background made it even better, with something that i originally thought would never fit in a war environment easily becoming one of the best boss themes ive ever heard, also played to the legend of Razgriz with it reusing Unsung War's lyrics with Cipher being the first coming of Razgriz in my eyes
>>
>>175961610
Felt like Zero was a proof of concept pilot game compared to the longer and more story filled 5.
>>
>>175961610
It had as much heart as 4, and the same more mature tone. 5 just feels immature in every area from gameplay to writing, which makes it drastically weaker than zero and 4 just based off tone alone.
>>
>>175979789
That's funny because it was released after 5. If anything, 5 was an ambitious attempt that fell flat, and PA learned from their mistakes for Zero.

Fighters and Attackers get a 1.6x damage bonus in A2A and A2G respectively while multiroles only get a 1.2x in both, so it's not just you. The main advantage multiroles have is staring off with a shitton of part slots right off the bat and having access to any S.weapon category, which can let them specialize in something you need. For example, I think the only Fighter that has access to a non-blue S.weapon is the Assault Horizon PAK-FA with the MPBM.

Trust me when I say this in the most non-homoerotic, heterosexual manner:
I want to have your babies.

Assuming certain aircraft are in the game coughcoughF-5, this is looking to combine Ace Combat with my favorite aspect of HAWX: being able to customize (at least somewhat) your Loadout. Also, it's gorgeous as fuck and the sound design is pretty great too. and the fact that I can use an Xbox controller right out of the box is handy as hell. All in all, 10/10, would gush about to friends.

I would post one of my designs, but the only one I actually got around finishing is an abortion of a F-15 ACTIVE rippof with COFFIN integration I did for practice months ago. I meant to mix it with an F/A-18, but it ended up contributing little more than slanted stabilizers. A failure of a design, even if we omit that mixing planes isn't the best approach.

>>
>>176140762
I'd also like to add that the only thing keeping the F-15S from being perfect for me is the lack of a canted vertical tail, which the Q-15 has, so this is really activating my almonds.
>>
>>176140601
>>176140762
>people praising the Q-15
Wow, I'm flattered. That's the only picture I've made of it.
It's for a personal setting which I'll resume as AC3 ON MARS (with a few nations here and there) and with some technological regression (cut off from Earth, they had to reinvent most military technology, long story).
As you might guess from "Gekka" in the filename, it was designed by a megacorp with japanese origins (they use the chinese designations because to the martians all of Asia is more or less the same).
The design has a few particularities resulting from changes in demanded specs: the initial program called for minor stealth capabilities, but that requirement was dropped in favour of increased maneuverability late into the program, which prompted a very quick-and-dirty solution of adding canards and the canted tail was kept to remove variables.
The design has two machine guns because they didn't have the time to develop a machine gun with a higher fire-rate in time for the competition, so they just slapped a second one and called it a day.
Their engines are also fuel-less battery-powered turbofan designs, but that's more far-fetched.

>>
>>176135443
That one "flight school" manga did it pretty well imo
>>
>>176143609
It started off as my homebrew setting for Battletech, so it was mech focused (I'm a big Armored Core and Front Mission fan), but then I branched out to the beauty of aircraft, something I've liked since I was a kid (my father works in a former american airbase).

The timeframe goes from the early XXIIIrd century to the early XXIVth, but everything before 2247 is backstory. The main focus lies between 2247 and 2343 on Mars, the later date being what I'd consider "present day" when I get down to writing it.

Are you asking about the history or about other elements?
>>
>>176144224

I mean over the span of 12 missions it's been

>unthreatening intro mission x2
>alright dogfights on the easy side x3
>shitty defence
>muh nuggets featuring more annoying version of Stonehenge
>boring as fuck escort mission
>ground assault with a gimmick
>clay pigeon shooting now with jammers and random question deciding the next two missions
>boring as fuck bombing run with a smattering of gatling use
>next mission involves yet another gimmicky ground assault

I'm really starting to miss those "x points till time limit" AC4 missions because at least those didn't waste your time with shitty dialogues and you were free to do stuff as you please.

Pic related - my soul when "synchronize the destruction of radars with your wingmen"
>>
>>176145931
Your first mistake was playing Four Horsemen
>>
>>176144902
To elaborate on that, I set some general guidelines for my designs by state of origins:
>Chryse favours delta-wings/canard designs and multiservice designs.
>Tharsis fighters usually have tapered wing/tailplane conventional configurations, with "blockier" designs. They'd look "american" in a way. This is also shared by the Briar and Gekka megacorps.
>Promethia uses more unconventional designs, some being Yukikaze-level outlandish and their main planes would ressemble Neucom products. Their most ordinary designs look like late Cold War/Modern Sukhoi designs.

Other technology and design tidbits:
>Due to radar technology not having regressed since the colonization, their current stealth measures are rather ineffective, making stealth a meme in-universe. (This one is mostly due to stealth being unpopular in my Battletech group).
>Downsizing the massive surveyance radars is still tough, so they didn't manage to develop active missiles till the 2270s. Fighter mounted radars were achieved by the 60s. Before that, IR and laser guidance were the norm.
>Electricity powered engines because there are no hydrocarburants on Mars. Chemical propellants are used on missiles.
>Universalized COFFIN-like technology. If even civilian mechs have them, why wouldn't an aircraft have them?
>No UAV usage between 2265 and 2304 due to international post-war talks. There were unarmed drones, though. Those talks didn't explicitly ban UAVs as they were mostly about WMDs and orbital weaponry, resulting in their wartime usage in 2304.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I hope it was interesting.

It's long and taped. This is a feature only found on the F-4E, RF-4E, F-4G, RF-4C, and RF-4B. Of those only the RF-4B was operated by the USMC off of carriers. It is unlikely that the devs would put a recon version into a game over the F-4E which is the most well known variant.

Additionally, the F-4E is the only one of these variants with an internal gun. If the playable F-4 in air combat can use a gun, the balance of evidence would indicate it is an F-4E.

>>176163680

Gran Turismo and Forza actually try to go for a "sim-lite" experience, with things such as tire temperature, condition, oil temp, condition, different terrain affecting the handling of the vehicle, and with the most recent installments, mechanical damage that isn't just a percentage based health bar covering the whole vehicle.

Ace Combat doesn't even try to be realistic in the same way that GT and Forza do.

>>
>>176173271

>>
>>176174453
Megalith was deorbiting space debris for orbital bombardment.
>>
>>176174889
How long would a space debris orbit the earth after asteroid planetfall, actually?
The Ulysses hit Strangereal in 1999 and yet in 2005 the Megalith was still able to trigger another meteor shower.
>>
>>176176119
It didn't "hit", it passed through Strangereal's Roche limit and was torn apart by tidal forces-- basically it got too close and was sheared apart. Strangereal was peppered by fragments at its surface but many more fragments simply entered orbit from their angle of approach.

I know nothing about orbital mechanics, and will be the first to admit that, but I'd guess it depends on how stable the orbit is. Look at something like Saturn's rings, isn't that all just dust and bits of rock that got stuck in orbit. Or some of those planets with like 60 moons.

Really hard to say. I grew up seeing the Ala 15's F/A-18, so they do have a special spot in the "childhood cool plane" category.
I really like the Su-27 and it's variants aesthetics, I mourn the YF-23, the Mirage F1 is pretty neat, the F-14 is just impressive...
I lack unfocus. Being a drawfag a heart, I tend to weight them mostly on aesthetics, though.

Late to the pool, but isn't high thrust desirable, at least for an interceptor? What are the benefits in choosing a lower thruster output?

I'd see the point if those values were put in conjunction with the mass or fuel consumption of the engines, but at this point it looks sort of random. No ofense intended.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This poll is for the main wing only. Images may show other features like horizontal and vertical stabilizers, but these will be voted on in follow up polls.

You are correct that more powerful engines are generally more desirable. However, larger engines need more airflow, may have a higher specific fuel consumption, are larger in volume and higher in weight, and have a higher cost.

not why I asked, dude

>>176216854

>>176216920
I see. So the thrust will mostly have an effect once we decide the final dry and takeoff weights of the fighter and we define how much of that weight is taken by the engine and such.

So I had this idea where you'd abuse one issue of the forward sweep by putting little intakes in the root to deal with the air travelling down the leading edge.
>>
>>176229726
For what purpose? What does the air do when it goes into the intake?
>>
>>176231773
Feed into the engine or whatnot and not add the unnecessary stress on the root which was one of the main issues with these things IIRC.
>>
>>176232923
Intakes are usually at the front of a plane for a reason. Air needs to go through more than a dozen low and high pressure compressor stages before it can be combusted.

I don't think you understand the idea. It's just an additional feed to deal with the unwanted airflow. Not the main intake. If anything it could even just lead into the bypass.

That said it's not like that intake would be behind the engines, which would be placed relatively far back because of the sweep anyway.

Take in mind that the actual chronological order for the Strangereal games is 0->2/AHL->4->5->6->3
I believe ACX takes place between 5 and 6. AC7 will take place between 6 and 3.
Assault Horizon Legacy actually has no connection to Assault Horizon, it's a remake of AC2 for the 3DS.
The american version of AC3 removed branching paths and the plot, making it worthless.

Assault Horizon takes place in the "real world", so it has no relationship with the rest of the series.
Joint Assault and Infinity also take place in their own self-contained "real world" settings, so they're also independent. I'd still recommend you to check out JA after X.
No idea about Advance, but it takes place in Strangereal. Not sure if canon, never played it.

X-32 revels in its own smugness. Its sworn enemy, F-35, has run headlong into every wall, fallen into every pit, and tripped over every uneven step in its life thus far.
Long since retired from the public eye, X-32 merely watches and smiles with satisfaction as F-35 blunders on toward its doom. In the end, X-32 knows that he is right. His joy comes from waiting for the rest of the world to realize.

Due to the fact that we have I tie, and more people voted for various planforms that aren't FSW than for it, I am restating this poll.

If you previously voted for Delta, Cropped Delta, Compound Delta, Ovigal Delta, or Swept wing, vote for rear swept wing this time. If that option wins the next vote will be for which of those planforms we use.

If you previously voted for Forward swept wing or Flying wing, just do the same for this poll.

Let's aim for this.
>>
What was the rate at which fighters were designed during the different staged of the Cold War and the period following that? Looking for an answer along the lines of "1 fighter model every X years" if applicable.
>>
>>176293964
For the US off the top of my head:
F-4:1958
F-5: 1962
F-14: 1968
F-15: 1973
F-16: 1978
>>
>>176294501
And the first three jets you mentioned aren't gonna be in AC7.
>>
>>176294501
So a 4 to 6 year turnover? Now that I think about it, my question is really unfocused, it mixes all services.
How long was military aircraft development for different kinds of aircraft in those times? A ballpark estimate for the US and the URSS would be neat.
>>
>>176294678
Maybe a timeline showing the periods in which each fighter was used would help you. I don't have one, though.

Aren't we designing a plane for thunder's weirdly autistic simulator tier RPG?
>>
>>176299270
That's correct.

Depending on further choices, the planform will play a large part in determining top speed.

A flying wing will probably be limited to ~mach 1.2, but will gave a larger payload and range and a bonus to stealth.

A forward swept wing will probably end up with a top speed between mach 1.6 and mach 2, with a bonus to low speed Maneuverability.

A rearward swept wing will probably have a top speed between mach 2 and mach 3.

>>
>>176305232
Not to be rude, but this isn't the kind of thing that people are going to tell you off the top of their head.

Based off of what is in my RPG, I can tell you their have been at least 100 jet aircraft made since the 50s. More if you count each variant as its own plane, less if you don't.

Your best bet is to load up Wikipedia and start searching.

Researching (if reading up stuff in Wikipedia is research) the F-16 I've stumbled upon a mention of the F-16 SFW, an alternative wing concept not unlike the F-16XL, but with "Swept Forward Wings". Didn't seem to go beyond paper, though.

I don't think there's really that much to say. It was sold as an Ace Combat-style game, but with a unique aesthetic and a lot of modding potential. Unfortunately, it was released while it still had quite a few bugs and CTD issues, as well as some problems with optimization. The campaign was also quite short; I think the dev himself said that it was intended as a prologue for a much longer campaign. Despite the fact that the game comes with a mission editor and was designed to be highly moddable, there isn't much of a community for the game, and as a result, there aren't a lot of missions to play. That's really the biggest problem - there's just not much content. Hundreds of planes and very few missions to fly them in.

It's frustrating and disappointing, because the gameplay is actually very good. It plays pretty much identically to AC while also adding some stuff, like countermeasures. It also has a pretty good soundtrack, and I like the cel-shaded aesthetic. Plus, like I said, it was designed to be modded, which obviously opens up lots of possibilities. There's really a lot of potential there, but it still needs work. The dev was making updates and interacting with the community for a while, but he disappeared a few months ago and hasn't been heard from since.

I fucking hate infinity so much for so many reasons.

it's like witnessing a pristine perfect AC game Mutilated by F2P shit. it could have been a full game with constant updates, it could have atleast made it grindy instead of a Pay 2 win fuckfest. it could have been the best AC game in terms of content, but no, its all gone and will all disappear in the next year when AC7 takes over the scene, killing off infinity with all of its content gone, all of its raid battles gone, and all of its events gone.

So, it's merely just listing the platforms and genres the demos will be on at E3, not what target platforms will it be on, then?
If that what it is, then that means we are getting the standard non-VR gameplay footage of AC7 since Xbox One build is included on the list

I'm firing blanks at how a missile guidance test would sound like though. I have ideas for the "being chased by a (dummy) missile" part, as that's mostly Control telling the pilot to keep his cool, break and eject.
>>
>>176391701

>>
>>176391838
I'm gonna do something like the AIM-9 testing accident that involved the missile "doubling back" and chasing the fighter that shot it. A way to portray the (rocky) early-mid developments of the setting's missiles.

>>176392131
Call the missile "The hound" or something, and then either that it's chasing its tail or coming back to bite you.

Sounds a bit too lax for being chased by a missile. FOX TWO FOX TWO would probably be more appropriate.
>>
>>176392138
>>176392462
The outline (subject to change) would be:
>Pilot reports target UAV in sight, Control gives green light to fire, Pilot reports "Fox 2" or something to that effect.
>Faulty missile drops behind the accelerating fighter due to thruster misfire, then the thruster fires up, locked on the fighter.
>Missile speeds past the fighter then doubles back, Pilot and Control flip their collective shit.
>Some maneuvering, missile coming back.
>Control orders the pilot to eject, ejection sequence for COFFIN-style cockpits portrayed.
>The dummy missile punches through the fighter, Pilot hangs from the parachute while the fighter explodes.
>The target UAV is still flying peacefully.

>>
>>176393995
I don't see the relationship between being targeted and having a not!COFFIN, unless you're doing the pun (In universe they just call it a VR Cockpit).
>>
>>176392538
Something to note:
>Faulty missile drops behind the accelerating fighter due to thruster misfire, then the thruster fires up, locked on the fighter.
>Missile speeds past the fighter then doubles back, Pilot and Control flip their collective shit.
>Some maneuvering, missile coming back.

Is impossible with that order of events with a primitive IR missile.

If the missile locks onto the jet, then flies past, it is no longer locked onto the jet. The Seeker is only capable of tracking things that are ahead of it. If there is no targetable heat source in front of it, it will go ballistic. It will not turn around to try and reacquire a previous target.

If it loops for a different reason, like a locked fin, and turns so that the Seeker head is facing the launch aircraft, it may then lock on and attempt to close.
>>
>>176396004
I guess I was trying too hard to have the missile do multiple passes at the fighter, to ramp up the tension. Thanks for the heads-up.
Wouldn't a locked fin keep spinning out of control? I guess it could keep circling around and thus lock-on again after each rotation, trying to correct it's course with it's free fins.

Do airbase anecdotes count?
In the Zaragoza Air Base (USAF Air Base ceded to Spain in 1992), the 15th Wing of the Spanish Aif Force flies F/A-18s and the 31st flies C-130s.
A landing F/A-18 once collided with a C-130 that was taking off due to a runway direction error and ripped 3-4 meters of the C-130's wing, that successfully landed. The F/A-18 only suffered minor damage on the wing-end missile rail. The ripped portion wing of the C-130 is now a monument in one of the base's roundabouts.

That squadron really suffers the most from the mispronounced German. The correct pronunciation would make it rhyme with "boat", but since it's incorrect, it's, well, "rot", as in decay.

>Squadron Leader was nowhere near as cool a name as Unsung War though, so no clue why they changed that one.
It's the first AC game where you can actually give wingman commands, so it's kind of advertising a new feature. It's still a really bad choice in terms of being artistic or thematic, though. Half the point of the game is that a lot of what you do ends up being secret - an unsung war.

The clean F-4E has very high stabilator efficacy at subsonic speeds, making it incredibly pitch sensitive, making it easy to accidentally over rotate the aircraft on takeoff and potentially drag the tail on the ground.

To give an example of how sensitive pitch the controls are, in high dynamic pressure flight regimes, about 1" of aft stick travel would produce 6Gs. Only about 3-4lbs of force were necessary per G.

In our world, what jet fighters would mercenaries be able to get their hands on that aren't slavshit? I can't see the US military just handing out an F-15 to a guy that calls himself Pixy.

Trainer jets mostly, or surplused aircraft like the A4 Skyhawk.
>>
>>176443110
Private militaries probably could just buy them from the company that makes the jets (with the right licences and permissions)

>>176443732
Kind of like how the Flying Tigers got their P-40s? They just bought them off Curtiss, didn't they?

There was actually quite a lot of US government covert involvement, up to and including discreet funding of the Warhawks and implicit direction of pilots towards the group, which folded in to the USAAF in early 1942 as part of the 14th Air Force

That must be such a confusing moment. I can imagine sitting in a bunk on some foreign airbase in the middle of the night, fiddling with an old radio trying to listen in to any enemy transmissions.
Only instead of spying, you're just trying to catch snatches of your own language, faint glimpses of home. They're still your people, even from behind the muzzle of a gun.

>>176437543

I'm not sure Pixy felt that way. He never even mentions that he's Belkan, during the game or in the interviews, and we all know what he came to believe about nations in general.

Not Pixy, because Pixy hates borders. But I'd imagine that a mercenary without those convictions would have second thoughts about fighting his own countrymen.

Well it got so bad here in the past that Swiss mercenaries pretty much just met eachother on the battlefield. After which they decided that it was a shit idea.

And that's why it's banned to be a merc in Switzerland, or so the story goes.

Well, don't fight wars for France is the lesson to take away from it.

But I think another reason was that the infighting got so bad that people couldn't decide on whom to war with so they just decided to fight noone. But my /his/ is bad so that's just something I remember.
