http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Main_Page

Read the General problems FAQ before asking questions. If you still need help, post your specs (Speccy screenshot), operating system, emulator version number and details of what's wrong.

Please contribute to the wiki if you discover any inaccuracies or have relevant information to append.

READ THE WIKI BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE:
>Where do I get games
OR
>What is the best emulator for...

Check out the wiki for the emulator you're using if you run into trouble, there may be a solution there too, often including recommendations for optimal game settings.

Remember to submit bug reports or shit won't get fixed.

So just to set everything straight before I spend $40 on amazon. If I have these 2 items, I can play Skyward Sword on dolphin:

1) wiimote with motion +
2) dolphin bar

That's it, correct?

My laptop has builtin Bluetooth
>>
>>175797134
You also need a nunchuck if you're going that route.

But an anon itt recently ported motion+ emulation to mainline Dolphin, you might want to try that out first.

" Emulation is a process for playing classic games that anyone can do with no issues. It's easy: with the emulator, you select the game, and play. Simplicity transcends to become art as the thought of an "emulator" washes away and you are sucked into the seamless game experience. Afterward you sell your old game systems, as the emulators have perfected the games better than even the original console could have. Simple, elegant, gaming bliss. Emulation General~ "

I've been playing Megaman Battle Network 2 on my 3ds, and the entire thing has played fine up until the end game. Attempting to transition into the WWW post-game area causes the game to consistently freeze, and occasionally make horrible screeching noises while this happens.

This is the patched VC version that modifies the transition to flash less, so I'm wondering if there's something fucky with that?

I cannot find a single thing on google about this, and I would prefer not to start the entire game over again because it's a bad rom, or something fuck.

It was fine up until this one specific point, which is what I find so odd. They're the Virtual Console patches for the Wii U that were dumped a long time ago, and applied to a rom which was then converted into a cia for installation on a 3ds.

>Nobody on either The Rockman EXE Zone (Where the patch is hosted), or 3dsiso (Thread where I downloaded it) seems to have experienced this problem
Crashing when accessing the post-game isn't as bad as EB's piracy protection, but damn if it doesn't make me salty
>>
>>175807172
Yeah, I bet it just doesn't work on real hardware, which the 3DS essentially is for GBA, unlike the Wii U.

You should be able to just dump the save, install the unpatched version and inject the save into that though. Not sure if JKSM can handle GBA saves or not or what can, but I'm sure it's possible; ask >>>/vg/hbg

>>175818728
Ditch that shitty office CPU. Get an i5 from the last 5 years, like a 4690. Also consider a 1060/580 GPU instead. that 570 isn't gonna last at 1080p/60FPS high/ultra.

games run at full speed tried to use the wiki settings but it makes you see most of the lights through walls.
went back to the previous settings and actually after getting used to it its not so bad.
i ran into a new problem with the map though.
running it on software mode eliminates the map problem but i want to be able get rid of it on hardware mode.
any suggestions?

It has autistic attention to detail in how blocks rotate/fall/etc, and it has a save feature where you save your initials with a password and it remembers you, and you rank up by continuously playing well over many games. The top rank is Grand Master, and only like a dozen people have achieved it, and all but one are Japanese. It's pretty hardcore.
>>
>>175824187
Disable auto sort in Video settings, and disable whatever the other two settings are that are next to auto sort. I think you check the boxes to disable. There will be some graphical glitches in some games specifically from the lack of auto sort, but without disabling it the emu will run 5 times slower. Enjoy! I don't even know if Shenmue works properly like that, so have fun finding out for yourself!

Okay here it is. It's a self-extracting archive and the loader is already in there; that's just how I got it.

Just run TGM3.bat to start and pad_config.exe to change keys. You could probably find another loader too. This one is doesn't seem that great though it works well enough for me.

Use gpSP then, I'm sure a Moto G is capable of running that. If you can't get fullspeed in mgba then you aren't getting fullspeed in myboy or gba.emu, since those are just vbam ports, and will just use frameskip.

Indeed, the main reason some people don't play videogames as adults is because of fucking responsibility and lack of time to invest into videogames at all

My best friend is 37, the dude has family troubles, he's depressed and he may seem like the kind of guy who does not enjoy anything, but the truth is, he would play videogames if he had the time. He just doesn't.

Pretty much everything on Android is just VBAM, and since RA has VBAM but with a much much better frontend, as well as other, much better and/or faster cores, there's really no reason not to use RA.

Cg was what they originally used, because it supported both OpenGL and Direct3D9, and worked on PS3, and could be used compiled as HLSL for Xbox 360. However, Cg was discontinued by Nvidia and doesn't support OpenGL contexts higher than 3.1, nor DRM/KMS context, so this format is considered to be on life support.

The GLSL format was considered to be a "compatibility" format for mobile devices, evolved from the older XML shader format created for bsnes, since Cg did not support mobile devices at all. Originally, they were just Cg shaders that were converted with a Python script and Cg cross compiler, but now there are many hand-ported ones due to some issues with the automatic conversions. They are used on PC as well with the OpenGL renderer, especially if using higher OpenGL contexts or DRM/KMS.

Slang is a newer format that uses a combination of glslang and SPIRV-Cross to compile GLSL code to SPIR-V code, then performing reflection to the SPIR-V code and disassembling it back to the high-level language of the target renderer. Currently, it is only used in the Vulkan renderer, but it appears that Themaister has plans for it to be a replacement for Cg as a cross-API shader format.
https://github.com/libretro/slang-shaders/blob/master/spec/SHADER_SPEC.md
>>
>>175881925
Cg uses 'profiles' to determine what features are available on a given graphics driver. Some drivers only used the lowest profile that supported the minimum features, so shaders that made use of features that only exist in higher profiles would fail to compile on those devices. Nvidia cards supported all profiles, quite predictably.

>>
>>176013291
Lemme break it down for you simply.

A xin-mo controller is for arcade buttons and joysticks. All the buttons are wired into the controller which looks like a circuit board. It has a usb cable on the end.

Now you can set it up for 1 player or 2. The problem is a lot of linux based systems only see it as 1 controller and completely ignore the input of the player 2 buttons.

Now I know it seems like it should be as simple as mapping the buttons through the UI but sadly its not. All player 2 buttons are completely ignored until the OS can properly see the device correctly.

So the system sees it but is confused how to make use of it.

I hear you but how would he have been able to see that both controller were detected and seemingly able to be configured if that was the case.
I mean I'm not him so I can only speculate but I doubt he came up with some other solution but wrote something that makes it seems like he misjudged the issue to begin with, that would go a step beyond "nvm fixed it :)" in terms of being a faggot.

I got the next OP pic right here.

Beetle PSX HW in Retroarch, Spyro 2. It's fixable, but the game is WAY more fun with wobble graphics. I'm too lazy to make a video but basically textures are constantly wobbling all the time, not in a sickening way, just making it really funny to play. The worst(and funniest) the wobbles get is the pause screen and journal, which is just comical how wobbly it is. I cherrypicked the most ridiculous screenshot of course.

Settings:
>Software Framebuffer ON
>Adaptive Smoothing ON
>Internal GPU 2x
>Texture Filtering SABR
>Internal Color Depth 32bpp
>PGXP memory + CPU, I use memory only bc laptop but memory + CPU makes textboxes look better, memory only has slight glitchy look
>PGXP vertex cache ON
>PGXP perspective correct texturing ON

To fix, turn PGXP perspective correct texturing OFF. It's because Spyro uses an interesting way of texturing with LOD, I don't know how it works but basically it's special.
>>
>>176027505
that is fabulous. you should make a webm, if the wobbles move.

240p isn't the best version of anything, visually. You can do a bit of upscaling in citra, but that'll cut your framerate down quite a bit.
>>
>>176051320
Upscaling isn't demanding, the problem is that Citra itself is a demanding emulator, you need some top of the line i5/i7 to emulate some games at fullspeed, not to mention the Geometry Shaders issue, and others.
>>
>>176051320
Upscaling is literally free unless you have integrated-tier GPU, the emulator is CPU-bound like most.
>>
>>176051320
>You can do a bit of upscaling in citra, but that'll cut your framerate down quite a bit.
No it wont. My 750ti doesn't become the bottleneck until 8x resolution, which it still runs at >70fps unlocked (game is 30fps locked).
>>
>>176051652
how does that even work. why does FPS go down in normal vidya games when you increase the resolution?
>>
>>176051952

because they are GPU-bound

"Normal vidya" is several orders of magnitude more graphically complex than a motherfucking 3DS game, so unless you've got a poverty-tier GPU it'll handle it effortlessly.

>>
>>176051320
Majora's Mask 3D on Citra is the best version of MM (likewise with Ocarina). On my Intel HD520 (laptop) I can do 2x IR at fullspeed, which is fine by me. Even at 240p MM3D is better because it has remastered graphics and doesn't run at a cocksucking unstable 20fps like the N64 (more like the N~20). As well as various gameplay enhancements, potential for 3d, touchscreen clearing screen of hud elements and allowing more item slots, etc etc...

You can play every single Zelda game on a PC, with only the most recent one requiring high-end specs. If Nintendo wants to keep providing me with free games all the time, they can go ahead, I mean if they ever released a console that was even remotely worthwhile I would be interested in supporting them but the Switch is just another fucking Wii U. Can someone explain to me why emulators use the CPU so heavily and the GPU barely at all? As far as I can understand it's because you're approximately running the entire game system architecture, with the game info fed through that. But if that's correct (if), I still don't know why the GPU has no place in that process.
>>
>>176054460

correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they trap drawcalls which can be emulated at a higher level than application-specific CPU code
>>
>>176054460
because in order to emulate, they must simulate the hardware entirely on the CPU, GPU is only used for enhancements such as anti aliasing and upscaling

a game made to run natively on hardware will use its CPU for the CPU related task, and will utilize GPU for the tasks it's best at, so a natively ran game is always going to run better than an emulated game since it's using the hardware properly, while emulating means your CPU is going to try and mimic the real hardware and there will always be innacuracies, also input lag
>>
>>176054460

All the GPU does is render whatever polygons the CPU sends to it. GPU doesn't do any more work than it would have for any other low-poly game from 15 years ago.

The CPU actually has to interpret/recompile a program made for an entirely different computer in real-time.
>>
>>176054217
>Sounds like a you problem
Just do a search and you'll find plenty of other people that had the same problems. It was a very poorly designed fight. They shouldn't have changed it from the original.
>>
>>176018045
thanks you were right i was missing the us and eur bios yesterday i was too tired to make sure i had them
>>
>>176054460
CPU has to go through the game code and translate it from whatever architecture it used to x86 equivalent. Also all the memory structures (main RAM and whatever other memory might be in the console, CPU registers, etc) and such have to be replicated. And all secondary chips in the system like audio and all that shit need to be replicated. Also all intercommunications between chips (bus). And all the parts need to be at least roughly synchronized with each other. Also needs to convert the graphical data in the game (models, textures, etc.) into something natively usable by the GPU. Then it has to feed all the data to the GPU, so the GPU can do its thing. Barring some funky shit requiring the use of shaders to replicate some very peculiar behavior, the GPU is just doing the same shit it would do for any native PC game, which means it will be as taxed as it would be in a graphically comparable PC game (so not very).
>>
>>176053976
The sky can be purple tinted on certain hue settings. There's also the issue of the blue colors being a out-of-gamut colors on sRGB, how they are clipped plays a role in how they appear on computer monitors. Simple clamping of the resulting blue color to 255 will affect the hue of the color, while other methods will either darken or desaturate the blue to preserve the hue.

Just got around to playing Metroid Prime 2 and wanted to play it with the widescreen hacks. I put in the Gecko codes found the the MP2 wiki page and started up the game. Game ran fine (pic on the left) but there was still some culling.

Turned out I forgot to enable cheats, and when I did enable them, pic on the right happened.

Nothing seems to get rid of it besides un-enabling the "enable cheats" box. Even if I un-enable the gecko code it still looks like this. I saved a slate at this point and when it loads it with cheats enabled it freezes up for a second and become the right picture. Even starting up the game normally without loading any slates does this.

I would google it but I don't even know what this would be called.

The sensor bar is just a bunch of infrared LEDs. The Wiimote needs to see them to know where the top/bottom of your screen is. Dolphin doesn't give a fuck what you use, so long as the Wiimote can see it and orient itself with it.

That's not how it works. Drivers are not application-specific. The Xbone pad uses the xinput api just like 360 pads did, so both will work just the same.

Yeah, the sensor bar just has to be turned on, doesn't matter what it is hooked to. Can be a Wii U, can be a Wii, can be one of those fancy battery-powered wireless sensor bars, you can even use candles in the place of a sensor bar according to some people.

You DO need a bluetooth adapter for your computer to communicate with the Wiimote, though.

Metroid Prime on the Gamecube already looks better than it does on the Wii. Same resolution and framerate and everything, but it's actually missing a bunch of graphical effects.

Also apparently they 'fixed' some of the sequence breaking, you know that thing that makes Metroid games so replayable.

>>
>>176204237
>maybe some core components

Not even that. Maybe certain loops that you've determined are a bottleneck. And only after you actually analyzed the asm code your compiler generated and determined you can do better, for which you should have read the compiler manual and concluded there's no way to get it to generate more optimized asm.
>>
>>176139814
You're welcome!
>>
>>176205464
I'm not talking about optimizing loops. It's more like a lot of the emulated platform's instructions can be interpreted directly as native instructions. Same thing with registers. Stuff like that is pretty common writing any kind of virtual machine.

Doing that in C would be tricky, but embedding some assembly routines would make it a lot easier.

I'll probably grab a ps4 controller instead of ps3 if I decide to get something new though because there are too many fake ps3 controllers out there these days. Already got a fake shit a while ago.

unless you paid good money for that adapter it won't register analog buttons
Also the PS4 controller removed analog buttons.
>>

Every JIT compiler already does this. It's just programming assembly at runtime.

why does ds4windows need to be involved? Can't you just bind the directinput signals to the corresponding ds2 inputs in the emulator's pad configurator?
>>
>>176221715
The adapter has windows recognize the controllers as a PS3 one and it works with the SCP Xinput wrapper for pc games. The analog button fiunctions like the PS button on a ps3 controllers, it starts up big picture mode on steam.

Why do I need the analog buttons for emulation anyway?

Analog buttons means pressure sensitive buttons you clod

yet both the wii and wii u were emulated before the ps3 could emulate anything worthwhile

before the 40k donations came to cemu there were at least a dozen of wii u games playable to completion at full speed on it.
RPCS3 on the other hand has... trails of cold steel and some 2d arkedo games also available elsewhere?
most don't even consider the PS3 to be emulated at all and donating to it makes as much sense as donating for decapping 3ds or switch research. Until they see more playable games, rpscs3 is not gonna see cemu numbers any time soon

The lights at the bottom flashing and then going out is normal and all Wiimotes do it when they don't find something to connect to within a couple seconds. If nothing turns on at all and/or you're positive you followed the instructions and it still won't pair then yeah, maybe it's the Wiimote.

>>
>>176242530
It really depends on what you want. Launchbox is a good cataloging tool but isn't comparable to Hyperspin unless you mean Launchbox premium which has BigBox mode.
I use an old pirated version of Launchbox premium NEET but would love to support the dev some day though so I don't know how improved it is these days. As for Hyperspin, I haven't used it for a couple years and don't know how it's evolved either.

Launchbox is good if you really don't want to waste time getting into the nitty-gritty of customization. It works well for getting things cataloged quickly into a good looking (though basic) menu with minimal amounts of effort. (Just drag and drop files, pick some settings, and ta-da).

Hyperspin is infinitely customization but takes a metric fuck-ton of effort to get anything going. You'll be doing a lot of behind the scenes tweaking and in some cases it really doesn't feel necessary. You can still have some crazy-dope setups using Hyperspin though.

If you want total control use Hyperspin.
If you want to get it setup fast, use Launchbox. EmulationStation is also a good frontend but feels a little lacking overall. Very minimalist.
>>

>>
>>176249263
Hey man, thanks for this awesome answer. I tried to use hyperspin a while ago and didn't get the results I wanted. Launchbox looks pretty good tho, but I heard you have to pay yearly to use the big box mode and get the latest updates. I've never heard of EmulationStation before until now... and I can say that this was exactly what I was looking for, a very minimalistic interface. Thanks a lot for this suggestion man.

>Jerks off to G-Sync and low latency audio
>Always complains about higan having no exclusive fullscreen and stuttering
>Always shits on Dolphin for stuttering on shader compilation
>Shits on other frontends like Hyperspin
>Shits on CRT setups, claiming that LCD+G-Sync is better

Except sofullofcrap isn't even SP

Remember, SP hates G-Sync and Windows
>>
Reminder that everyone posting here is just Squarepusher and mudlord samefagging, according to byuu.
>>
>>176298790
DanteAlighieri64 is SPs alt though
>>
>>176298790
but DanteAlighieri64 is another SP sockpuppet reddit account.

No, Dante Alighieri is Twinaphex/SP/my account.

'sofullofcrap' or any other 'sockpuppet' is obviously not me.

Who is being the bully now huh? I am not allowed my own personal account without all of this stalking and accusations of 'sockpuppeting' without being able to disprove a negative? Seems more like byuu is the bully.

Also, why would some blowhard that pretends he dislikes anything closed-source swear by proprietary, vendor lock-inned, closed-source G-Sync anyway? And requires closed-source binary drivers? LOL. The dude is such a walking contradiction.

Christ Daniel you manchild
Take your meds
>>
>>176299117
>>176299118

Yeah but DanteAlighieri64 has said nothing about byuu at all. Byuu is just trying to bait him into responding.
>>
>>176299309
Ok mudlord
>>
>>176299220
Get a trip again, without meds you are crazy enough.
>>
Don't start this shit again. Either post about emulation or fuck off. This stupid I'm gonna pretend to be SP/Mudlord/Byuu/any other retarded e-celeb is annoying. But then again without the shitposting, this general is dead.
>>
t.b.h. this just proves byuu is just as guilty at keeping the conflict going as SP is. That thread had nothing to do with him yet he feels the need to bring up crap from elsewhere

>this just proves byuu is just as guilty at keeping the conflict going as SP is
No fucking shit
both are grade A autists made for each other.

Why do people jack off over those Consumer/Sony palettes? Those look nothing like any TVs I've seen

FirebrandX's palette seems more similar to how I've always perceived NES colors on my TVs.

lol leddit

>>176301697
They had Sony TVs growing up, probably.

I like BMF's Final 2 palette best, its dark colors reflect the hue of my TV.

You can get a 'girl' like that any day of the week in Thailand. NEETs might want to take note.

It's laughably easy to provoke byuu. I followed him on twitter once and he immediately went through my post history and replied to every pro-trump thing I had tweeted going back a couple weeks. I didn't even try to communicate with him lol, I just followed him.

I've setup higan to use keyboard buttons for snes but pressing the keys don't do shit in-game. Wtf is going on?
