So I find out it was assigning the GuiButton a dynamic ID, and Centerer uses exact ID cases.
So of course, I went and decompiled NMRC (because the git is just one branch that has been updated from one MC version to the next...) to make it a fixed ID.
Then I realise it also has a special handler to move the button position if any effects are active, and Centerer's tweak only works correctly if an effect is active, otherwise it's STILL in the wrong spot.

Serious question: why do you guys don't use Resource Packs? I use Dandelion, from Steelfeathers, and it's a really charming experience. There's plenty of mod support and it's easy to make your own textures.

The general algorithm for progressing in mods has not changed since 2013 or so? Most modpacks since then are based around the same concepts: resource gathering grind and microcrafting.

Yes, on 1.7.10. My guess is that given how well MC runs in this toaster, the filler skipped a few ticks worth of placing blocks because of the lag and thought it did a good job. What doesn't make any sense at all is why it placed those few blocks on the second level from the ground.

it triggers me too much to have thematically inconsistent art, so while unsupported mods definitely hurt, what really sets me off and keeps me from doing it is that most packs go for a kind of rustic/adventure/last millenium kind of feel, which is wildly incongruous with anything even resembling a techmod

Tweak shit as you play and find more shit to tweak, I don't think it's possible to fix everything that needs to be fixed in one go. Of course you need to give priority to things like worldgen and ID conflicts, but most other problems should be easy to fix as you play, including MT recipes.
Personally I find building a pack to be part of enjoying it as a whole. Maybe that's just my autism speaking though.

I could turn off individual sounds by replacing them with muted files in a resource pack, but even then it's quite heavy on your system.

Planning out a base in creative is fine. opening up MSpaint and turning on grids, zooming in to 800%, and doing pixel by pixel floorplans is also helpful.

Some mods have tools that can swap blocks, so you can always do a "repaint' of your base using them, if available.

There's nothing wrong with building with vanilla materials, they tend to be easy and plentiful. The general thing people do is they make an autism cave, gather materials and make basic shit, and if you don't quite the game at this point or go full tony stark autism cave mode, plan a base and build it as you have materials, then transition over.

This is exactly what I am trying to avoid. The past few times I came back to MC with a friend we built into a cave the first night to make it usable. We build up materials, and once we have everything inevitably one of us says "Why not just stick here and keep building on to the cave?" and its usually not me, or I quit at that point which is why I finally got mods although its overwhelming to say the least. My friend is still stuck in the boring but efficient cave mentality. I mean I don't have some grand plan of building some kind of photo realistic world wonder in MC over the course of months or years, but taking the next step up from shitty cave homes and a simple building is difficult.

Best you can do is avoid mods with easy flying or self impose them on yourself or a group decision to not use them and keep to a theme or time period to build around. Most important big mods provide some method of flying that does just that, but even with mods you need to see beyond just getting from A to B and instead try to invest in the world itself. I feel you, my dude. I run into the problem myself. Planning a good base with enough space for all the things you want to get into, things you know nothing about, is hard. Even if you know a mod well, you never know when you find a need to expand and then your base is too tiny to fit the stuff in.

An idea for you to try might be to make more of a mini-town than a single building base. Each building having it's own function and enough space around it to accommodate for expansion. This way, you also get to make use of multiple materials, since each building can be themed

Find a location or biome you enjoy the theme of, or multiple nearby biomes. Always plan to have room to expand. Doesn't always have to be vertically either. Dont try to put everything in one super efficient building or you'll just end up making some dumb square with sectioned off rooms for each thing you need. EIO is an easy way to slap a crafting table on your entire inventory.

But it is definitely nowhere near as OP as AE2. AE2's channels are not a huge problem to work around. You can automate 99% of basic crafting and processing recipes in the space of a few chunks with towers of assemblers and a few rows of machines (e.g. smelter factories from mekanism).

If you play in versions past 1.7.10, chisel and bits allows you to make virtually any kind of block you want from any material, which in essense answers all your questions. Slabs and carpets are easy enough to do in a few clicks, completely making a fake rotated block of another block would be a bit of an effort though.

But if you want to get down to as accurate as 1:16th of minecraft's scale, chisel and bits is the main way to go.

Yeah, after experimenting a bit more with this spawner I have gotten to a conclusion: fuck it. You need to give each yellow cube a different input (something related to a mob, dirt/netherrack/endstone depending on where the mob comes from, and crops/meat/leaves) at a different rate in order to minimize wasting resources, so in order to automate that thing you'll most likely need quite a fuckton of logic since you can't read how full of either of the three the spawners themselves (the blocks with a circle) are. It could be useful for manually spawning a small batch of mobs at a time, but I completely give up on trying to automate this. Time to either go with EnderIO spawners or find another mod, I guess, because fuck MFR too and Forbidden Magic's wrath cages are too annoying to make.

I want a pack where you can't actually craft machines right away, but need to enter a dimension that consists of an endlessly expansive city with varying levels and types of technology, with differing biomes in the dimension affecting which tech mod is used in the buildings and the style of the buildings. For anyone that's wanting a version of InventoryCenterer that works with NoMoreRecipeConflict, TravellersGear and CosmeticArmorReworked. Does need the custom NMRC build though for that to work. The new music is similar, but it's too complicated now and has too much going on.

There was 100% event-driven music. When the sun came up after the long night there was a specific track always played. In caves when you got near a dungeon there was always one played as well.

Yes there was also a list of tracks for it to play through, but it was not all random.

You'd probably be reading it a lot, if you were making a Resource Pack. There's a folder called exactly "mcpatcher" where you can put connected textures, random mobs, etc.

Probably. I tried to run MC with the latest 8 versions of Optifine and it won't run, even if I disable Fastcraft, for example. Of course, when I disable Optifine, everything works.
