From America's perspective, yes. From Japan's perspective, there's still demand for it, from both users and developers/publishers alike.

If you look at Japanese game releases until end of 2016, devs were still making PS Vita versions of their games, and from how several releases looked/happened, seems like Sony talked them into doing a PS4 version.

Some shops are still shilling PS Vita games hard. My friend went to pre-order games last weekend in a shop in Akihabara, and told me the pre-order list for Vita is way longer than the ones for PS4.

Sony's been out of the red for quite some time now, and the PlayStation division contributes a significant amount to their profitability. If they can make another portable that's profitable with the projected lifetime sales of the PS Vita, then I hope they can at least consider doing it.

Considering the job listings, they're doing something. But will it come into fruition, that's another story. I hope they still listen what PS Japan has to say as I actually think PS is starting to be more of a western company rather than Japanese. And that's no wonder when their HQ is in US also. And west is where they make the biggest profits too.

Imagine the amount of shitposting if they are giving another shot with handhelds. And how much it will be shitted on mainstream gaming media. They have to have clear message what this device will be and what it won't be. Making big western games is one thing that the handheld won't be. Is there a market in west for Sony handheld? It's a hard pitch, and making Asia exclusive device doesn't sound something from this decade.

Why do you need a Vita if you got a PS4? do you really like those games? if they're selling it used, most likely it's >= 3.63 which means you cannot even play torrented games on it. Still, SAO Lost Song you can find it for less than 40 USD new, I don't know about Persona 4 but I imagine the price is around there. I got my used PSV off ebay for 100 USD with 3 games (crappy games but still 3 games), no scratches like new, if you're going to shoot those 165 bucks at least make sure the screen has no scratches on it, or just get a PSTV for much less.

It's really weird, because I loved Cold Steel.

As in, took three weeks of paid leave off work to just blast through it and the sequel. But I knew I was obviously missing some context, like the game making Lloyd out to be some big thing, when I had no idea who he was when I was playing.

So I decided to go back and play through the earlier games but it's just not enjoyable. I'm probably just going to read a summary or something.

Odin Sphere came out by NISA in EU that still knows what Vita is.

Caligula digital only is just Atlus/Sega getting the most of the profits they can make from a Vita exclusive. Making physical Vita game is more expensive than making physical PS4 disc and you have to also ask the lower price for the game. It's not something most publishers want to do especially when you have to ask the same price for both physical and digital.
