It's cheaper in terms of monarch point investment, and Japan actually does have access to some pretty rich colonisable territory (Taiwan, the Philippines and the Moluccas), so having a colonist isn't necessarily a terrible idea.

Religious isn't really necessary as a first pick anymore. With the religious state edict and the theologian decision, plus other reforms, you can convert in a reasonably short amount of time. It is good for a second idea when you are really blobbing and want 10 month convert times, 4 missionaries, and +5 true faith tolerance.

I wanted a greater Poland and a rump state Ukraine. Sadly puppets exchange territories at will so I can't have these borders.
Greater Finland went out the window too.
The only plan that become reality is Austria-Bohemia, but that was a nightmare to make.
