Invade, you'll force yourself to since hosts will give you loads of opportunities and generally just mash buttons. Opponent caught you in an R1 stunlock with a straightsword? You can parry his third swing out of stunlock unless he delays it on purpose. You two traded R1's with straightswords and stunned eachother? Parry, if he goes for another trade out of stunlock he'll get parried. Blocked a R1? Against the right weapon, you might be able to parry the second one. Blocked a katana running poke? Parry, if they try to hit your shield with a standing R1 after poking it, they'll get parried. Opponent seems to use a rolling attack after every fucking roll? Walk up and parry when you see a roll. Some of this doesn't work with a midshield parry though.

I wouldn't use a pkcs with a greatshield

Try out rapier GS, it really lets them shine. Straightswords are good too. Personally I've wanted to try out the dragonhead greatshield to see if the weaponart is worth the mediocre stats. It takes 15 faith but generally speaking it's always worth casting magic shield and replenishment anyway on a turtle (assuming magic shield is applicable).

Because invaders got used to being op and bullying newbies in DS1 and started crying when the odds started to get tacked a bit more in favor of the hosts. DS3's online balance is kinda too much favoriting hosts but a lot of the time it's just that the invaders are shit and complain because they can't poop out a maxed out pyro glove twink in Parish as easily as in DS1.

I agree with everything in this post. DS1 put too much emphasis on PvP for PvP's sake with its covenants and arenas and shit, and now that matchmaking doesn't suck ass it's not surprising that DS3 plays out the way it does.

I wish I could go back to the DeS days back before lorefags and PvPfags took over this series, it's like everyone including From has forgotten that Souls is supposed to be a single-player ARPG with online functionality. They got it right with Bloodborne but that's probably because Bamco wasn't involved.

Although CotD being mandatory is kinda stupid because they give you a false choice of going to Irithyll first only to cuck you and force you back to CotD. Outside of DLC and maybe the catacombs if you get a lucky spawn and deliberately camp the bridge, there's pretty much no way to keep the host from running to the bossfog. If you seriously are ever stopped from running to the fog under any other circumstances aside from "yeah I like to have fun", you are 100% garbage and should stop posting opinions. If you think invaders actually stand a chance against a competent host, that means your idea of a competent host is someone who can't run to the fog, which means you have no idea what it actually means to be competent and thus aren't competent yourself. The only reason why it's easy to win most invasions is because most hosts aren't smart.

My argument in DS3's defense is that the game's encounter design and boss fights in particular are extremely well done. Some of them try to achieve difficulty in less than desirable ways (i.e Friede with the 3-phase bs) but in general the bossfights are solid, they reward skill, they switch things up with second phases and overall are a significant step-up from the pre-Bloodborne games.

The corollary to that is that it's not structured similarly to the previous Souls games. In DeS, DS1, and DS2 you could fuck off in one of many directions from the start and almost always have options. The first real choice that you get in DS3 is, like you said, not a real choice. The second (Irithyll) kind of is but if you want Siegward's shit then you can't go to Irithyll dungeon without doing Greirat's shit first. Even if you kill the dancer early you can't get into the archives until you've killed 3 lords.

Gonna have to disagree dude. Nobody liked the demon ruins in DS1 and in DS3 it feels like they cut the catacombs (which I like) really short so they could add in another demon ruins that nobody likes.
