People play this game to play Battleships because when you think Naval Warfare you think 2 things, either CVs or Battleships. People want to play the biggest baddest thing out there and with so much history, media, and game focusing around battleships because they were the biggest baddest things out there. That's why they're majority of the population on servers and that's why WG caters to them because they are the population of the game. Nothing is going to change BBs because if they nerf them then those people are gone and there goes the game. So ask yourself, what compromise can you make so this population doesn't turn into Steel Ocean?

To call it a grind is a mistake. I kind of feel sorry for anyone skipping to Bismarck. I wouldn't feel that way about any other line, but German BBs were consistently fun all the way up. Feels like you're depriving yourself of some of the best experiences the game has to offer just to skip to the peak.

Because ships can take a beating. The hit point system here is far more fitting than tanks or planes. Gameplay gets more interesting at higher tiers where things go faster and guns get stronger and more accurate.

That was after over an hour of shooting at a target that was not maneuvering and had taken several torpedoes and gunfire hits over the precedeing days.

Alternatively, you end up with WT's system of having the healthbars invisible, which doesn't actually change anything but makes the players feel like they're totally playing a simulator.

Judging by pictures of the wreck and descriptions of the hits from survivros, quite a lof of fire hit the hull, though it also looks like a noticeavle percentage of shells that fell short ricocheted off the water and hit the superstructure.

This is obviously a result of the short engagement range, those 'short' shots would (at longer ranges) dive and possibly be underwater hits which might cause a ship to eventually sink.

The problem here is that at the ranges where (most) WW2 BBs could reliably penetrate each other's belt armor they would be unable to get their shells to dive into the water and be potential underwater hits.(entry angle becomes too flat, shell bounces off the wter)
At the range where they might get such a lucky underwater hit, they were mostly unable to penetrate the belt or deck. (the IJN realized this and built shells specifically designed to five well in order to extend the range bracket where they would be able to damage the enemy)
And at longer ranges, where penetrations through the deck (and underwater hits) were possible, the chance to actually hit dropped noticeably even under ideal conditions.

What skill build do you recommend? My captain was secondary focused from the bisco. Seriously thinking of getting concealment expert with with concealment mod to reduce detectability, since you can't avoid the wall of skill anyway when you see it.

If it feels like everyone's doing it now then the game will be flooded this time next month. Bismarck is already the most played free ship in the game looking at recent statistics, and for good reason. Plenty more people are going to set up there and not want to leave. This is a really dumb decision for game balance and the only way I can see it ending is with heavy nerfs.

If you want to look at it from a 'realism' perspective, then yes.

One of the lessons everyone (apart from, apparently, the RN) took away from Jutland was that it doesn't fucking matter if you ship is shot to shit as long as it doesn't explode or sink.
You only start sinking from underwater hits that cause progressive flooding, which you can stop from beign a thing by compartmentalization (this is the part where the IJN failed hard).
And explosions, well, you can stop those from happening by using propellant that doesn't explode from the tiniest spark. The IJN and RN somehow didn't get the memo.

Once you get those two things out of the way, a ship turns out to be really hard to sink by gunfire.
Disable and make combat ineffective, yes. But this is often a more long-term effect that will not even stop the ship from shooting back right fucking now.

I know you're probably trolling but imagine if the game didn't have hitpoints but instead had War thunders damage modeling.

Cruisers wouldn't get one shotted nearly as much. Battleships would be real tough sons of bitches but have more fragile main guns and have the possibility to list and sink with enough hull damage. Destroyers would actually be quite similar, very fragile and easy to pop with bigger guns but they're harder to hit.

I wish so badly that this game didn't have HP because it really fucking ruins many aspects of the game.

Well to be fair it would look odd if you suddenly opened fire and the guns 'snapped' into the right spot (or even fired shells without the model turning).

However, it does make me feel that there should be some sort of AA consumable, like the defensive fire, but more powerful. However it means you can't fire the main battery guns. I don't know, I can see why they'd do it.

The weaker-than-tier-4 armor on the imaginary citadels of the missouri and iowa are the only thing that lets a german T8 massively overperform against them at mid range.

The fictional battleship healing button benefits Germany too much thanks to the imaginary citadel mechanic where you can heal damage against a german ship but not a round that exploded inside a non-german ship.

Also at fault is the game's completely imaginary saturation mechanism. Rounds should go right through blackened sections and do 100% damage, rather than the bullshit where your broken ship takes less damage because its armor is destroyed.
They got it right in tank video games where if one side of your tank gets fucked by massive shells, that side gives LESS protection against further shells as the armor isn't structurally sound anymore.

The citadel is for some magical reason not affected by the imaginary blackening mechanic that turns the rest of the ship into invincible bullshit.
This helps counteract it for other countries, but not for germany (and no one other than germany)

If it was a realistic sim, germany would not be better than average in any regard.
