Anyway this is a copypasta that I applied to the said file and I think it helped. Since I did it the engagements feel a bit less random.

The files are at C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\TslGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

Set the file to read only after you're done.

I had the feeling that the game has got too little bandwidth allocated.

So I used the following commands in the Engine.ini.

I have 50 Mbit/s so this is my value there

"Competitive" settings from le reddit.

Generally speaking "more fps = better" especially if you play with a 144/120hz monitor, "less distraction = better" and a clear image is also important if your pc can handle it. Most high ranked players in any shooter game will agree.
My system: i5-6600k @4.6Ghz / GTX970 OC / 16GB DDR4-RAM / Win 10 / 2560x1444

Step 1:
Check the power settings on your computer so they are set to "high performance" instead of the defaulted "balanced"
Change your graphic card driver settings to be more performance-oriented (just google nvidia or amd driver settings)

Step 2:
Right click on the Game in Steam
Click on 'Properties'
Click on 'Set launch options'
Add "-USEALLAVAILABLECORES -malloc=system -sm4" to the text box (without quotes)
You might want to test "-lowmemory" if you got 8gb or less ram (for now, game has memory leak, restart the game after every match)
"-sm4" changes shaders from dx11 to dx10, it does remove some distractive reflections and marks on the screen (scope glares fixed!)
"-malloc=system" forces windows to handle the memory allocation

Step 3:
Go to ingame settings/graphics
Turn up "Brightness" to your preference to see enough in dark corners etc.
Change "Anti-Aliasing" to "Very Low" (Note: This game uses "FXAA" or something similar. It doesn't really cost much performance to use however everything gets blurry and might even cause headache! If you want a clearer image there are other options. However some people don't like to play with flickering edges. In this case try to play on "High" or "Ultra")
Change "Shadow Quality" to "Very Low" (Note: use "Low" if you can't handle the blocky shadows indoors)
Change "Post-Processing Quality" to "Very Low" (Note: Removes saturation/bloom, increases visibility)
Change "Texture Quality" to anything (Note: Depends on your graphics card VRAM and personal preference. Some pro's say its harder to see an enemy in high quality textures. Check your fps while changing this setting. Some people might experience higher fps with higher textures right now due to cpu overload. This settings increases quality a lot while not losing much visiblity)
Change "Effects Quality" to "Very Low" (Note: If you still want a better looking game without sacrificing visiblity a lot then this is one of the settings to change)
Change "Foliage" to "Very Low" (Note: Removes a LOT of bushes/grass)
Disable "Motion Blur"
Reduce your Screen Scale (Note: Depends heavily on your graphics card. Strong cards won't get a high average ingame-fps increase here and should stay at 100 @native resolution to maintain good pixel quality)
If you can't handle a bad looking game but want to maintain good visibility just increase Texture a lot, Effects a bit and Shadows to "Low"

Step 4 (Advanced, skip if you don't want to lose any fps)
These Settings only improve visibility and might cost few fps, only use them if you want the clearest image possible. Note that I play with very low textures:
Open C:\Users\PC NAME\AppData\Local\TslGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
Open the "GameUserSettings" file in the "WindowsNoEditor" folder.
Change value from "sg.ResolutionQuality" to "sg.ResolutionQuality=100.000000" (Recommended!)
Change value from "sg.ViewDistanceQuality" to "sg.ViewDistanceQuality=3"
Change value from "ScreenScale" to "ScreenScale=120.000000" (skip if you don't want to lose 10-12fps average, might be even more depending on your setup but this helps a bit against not having anti-aliasing)
Make the file "read-only" (Note: keep in mind that any settings ingame won't be saved, just remove it, change your settings and put it back on with all changes)
Add " -d3d10" as a additional startoption in steam (Note: "-d3d10" includes "-sm4", removes some shadows for example, you might lose some fps or get weird textures, not recommended)

Should have been more clear in the first post. The game by default seems to not let itself have enough bandwidth which could be the cause of some of the problems with desync in firefights. Setting the bandwidth the game is allowed to have in the engine file basically removes whatever the default cap is. The game is never going to actually take 50Mbps, but you get the idea.

Posts 2, 3, and 4 are from a graphical optimization guide on reddit focused on getting a high fps and reducing visual clutter so you can tryhard harder.

I have terrible luck with long-range shooting, I can only think of a couple clean long-ranged kills I've made. I like to follow people into towns and wait outside the house they're looting. Nobody's ready for a fight as they open a door I've noticed.

It's best when they don't even realize what's happening until it's too late. Burst a guy with an uzi as he comes into your house and he just pitches forward and lands on his face.

I land in either the powerplant, Georgeopol, gun range, school, or military base, based on plane trajectory, literally every game. Early game clusterfucks are the best.

I've won probably 2 dozen matches and most kills I've gotten in a single game is 18.

Nothing feels better than having 6 kills and one of the best loot locations in the game completely yours by the second circle.

Only downside is I die a lot. Win percent is probably somewhere around 3-8%. I have fun tho.

I haven't played H1Z1 or the culling or any of those shitters, I played ARMA II's Dayz mod and loved the player interactions on there so battlegrounds is like a nice cherrypicking of all the good things from battle royale and such. despite its flaws, it is remarkably fun. addicting, even. This is a really detailed virtual space that you are in. Treat the battleground like it's a real space and take cover and plan your movements carefully.

2x scopes are excellent. 4x scopes are a little more difficult but they do the job. 8x scopes are fucking hard but if you have the shot and a good position, take it. 16x are for madmen, and 69x scopes are euro beat tier

Make sure that you visualize the final circle. Don't look at your minimap, look at the actual field or location you are in and picture it. It will help give you a sense of placement

Be kind and helpful to your teammates!! Exchange supplies and ammo, be a lookout, just be a team player. Don't rage and have some (note: not alot, just some) patience for idiots and help them out when you can.

No man left behind, but sometimes you have to cut your losses and leave them.

Location location location. Situational awareness on the field is required to get a victory and advantage in firefights

Once you take shots at your enemy, get to better cover without them noticing to rally get the drop on them

Avoid open areas. Lategame, everytime I die, it's usually because I'm in some shitty open area with no good cover. I like going in with a slower, more methodical approach. Some people like to shoot up the place using Extended mags and stuff, but using a Kar98 with a decent 2x/4x scope can be very strong. Just sit back, near the edge of the white and watch.
If you see 2+ people fighting it out, let them fight. Try to find out where others are hiding instead. Remember, you don't NEED to be inside the white until the blue reaches it. You can just hang outside the white, and wait until the last few seconds to cross into it.
Lastly, try to avoid the center of the white, unless it centers on a shack/house or something. Being in the middle means you need to worry about all 360 degrees around you. With your back to the white, ideally, you don't need to worry about getting shot from behind. It's especially good if you found cover right next to the border.
Don't forget to chug your painkillers and stims. It's the best time to do it.

I think I've decided to stop picking up the SKS. I can hit someone with it twice, but I can never ever manage to land the third shot to down/kill them. With Kar98 you have no idea where your bullet hit, so you can't adjust.

Everytime I find a kar98 it takes like 10 tries to kill somebody with it.
Just got a couple of clean attempts to kill somebody, from across the bridge... But nope, had no idea if I was shooting above or below. Then died because of it, practically to the circle, as the fight started to drag out.

It's a bitch to try to learn how to snipe.

i basically stalled on moving from the hazard circle, not so that i'd have to move last second, but i'd be very patient with moving; moving from safe-zones and vantage points calmly and patiently whilst observing my surroundings. towards the end it was entirely open fields with bushes, and i recall just moving from bush to bush whilst they all killed eachother. i didn't ever move unless i 100% had to, or if i was certain there wasn't anyone watching me.
when it was just me versus the other last guy, i played like a massive bitch and just waited for him to move first, and then shot him before he caught on to where i was.
