It's disgusting that the dads had to resort to third party tools for the salami event. True commanders would have managed to defend her without such cheats. This is the price of Hubris. A delicious tubed meat has been killed.
>>
I really hope the retardation of this all spurs FDev on to take better care of its game's story.
>>
>>175400409

Ftroop did incredible damage control and claimed that they had no hand in putting together the event, and that it was all Drew's doing. So they have learned nothing.

This is the best day in a long time. I was put off to say the least by all the organizational faggotry leading up to this. To have it turn out that the faggotry was intentional to ensure they would be able to take her out without interference, that's just awesome. I'm proud to shitpost in a general that honors heros.
>>
>>175400819
I wouldn't let some shitass bitch of a 3rd-party use my game (that's already got its own heap of issues concerning story) to fuck around with my lore. Even if it was for a book, if I were FDev, I would have had direct control over it or not allowed it to happen at all.

>>175401061
It was pretty damn funny, though.
>>
>>175401230
>I wouldn't let some shitass
Why the dick not it's literally some RP session.
>>
Why can't you shitizens understand that Derek is right and just get refund?
>>
>>175401408
Because I could set $500 on a table and light it on fire as easily as I can give it CIG on the off chance they fuck around and make a good space game. Poorfags who have to get refunds to pay their bills need to climb a rung or two in society so that a few hundred dollars is not a existential crisis for them.
>>
>>175400938

It doesn't matter what any forum faggot has to say, any event like this will never work because there is simply no way to organize a large group of players beyond a Wing because Elite just upfront does not allow it. I knew Salami was going to get throatfucked by pulse lasers the second I heard of the event because there is no way anyone can organize a defense on that scale. Even putting aside the game's horrid networking, how do you know who is friendly? Who is out to kill her or help her? How the fuck can I build trust with other commanders when the only way to do so is through third party programs like Inara to form "fleets?" Though I guess it didn't help that the god forsaken idiots leading this shit heap of an event decided to trust random retards in the first place.

Tl;dr FUCKING CORPS OR DONT DO THIS SHIT AGAIN YOU IDIOTS
>>
>>175401872
Consider the fact that CIG decided to spend $400 million on an office door, and they're ten years behind in development.

Pretty ironic considering salome's whole story and the books about her are basically canonized fan fiction in the first place.
>>

You have to be a total retard to belive that people behind this event were somehow clueless about who sdc or harry potter are.

I know you want to belive that fantasy about a bunch of cool edgy dudes sticking it to the man and all that but this whole thing stinks of a setup.

Game development isn't linear for info, they have enough people to do a lot of planet simultaneously but they won't be released in an Alpha because:
- Even when everything its 98% complete, the 2% left depend on something else being added first
- Alpha are fork, meaning it require a lot of work that won't be part of the main branch, it's also the reason bugfix to alpha are rare. You don't fix an obsolete code.
- Letting player try incomplete feature is a known way to kill their impact at release as change can look much less important than the work they required.

>>175358767
>I'm definitely looking forward to all the planetary tech, but it would have been better in the sequel.
This sort of features is way too big to be added later, planetary tech had to be part of the foundation just like its FPS element.
Even E:D planned it at its core and it's have minimal integration and simplification like no atmosphere. They definitely can add legs and atmosphere but it will feel as a distinct part of the game rather than part of a whole.

That's why CIG absolutely had to throw away the previous code, it could never be modified to have planet later.
>>
>>175403897

From what I have seen from Ftroop and their community, it would not surprise me one single bit if they really didn't have any idea. They are braindead. Besides, if they wanted it to be a set up, they could just get someone to come kill Salami without having to go through the trouble of getting SDC to do their dirty work. Clearly they had some people since they had a full wing of 3 others with Salami, so what's one more to come and interdict her and kill her after a set time?
>>
>>175404161
maybe they all agreed that having the guy named harry potter kill the main character of drew's book was the most hilarious possible outcome
>>
>>175404161
Both ftroop and Drew knew perfectly well who SDC are.

>go through the trouble of getting SDC to do their dirty work
What trouble? Like a bunch of edgy attention whores wouldn't do it for free and suck Brabens cock on top of that all for the chance to stand in a spotlight for a couple of days.
>>
>>175404680

Why would SDC killing Salami achieve anything for Brabo or Drew? It's made them look like absolute retards because they actually trusted them. It would have been much better for them to have some random-named commander kill her if they wanted it to be a set up. Trusting SDC has made the event look like an absolute joke. If they actually trusted SDC just for a set up and that the community would accept that outcome, then they are even dumber than I could ever imagine.
>>
>>175405049
Already said what it gets the, an illusion of a living brating sandboxy game run by players where everything is possible.

Both ftroop and Drew distanced themselves from it and curated this shit through perfect patsies. This whole thing supposed to look like a player run event.

It's kind of amazing the mental gymnastics the forum dads are going through to try and reconcile these events as a message that the player agency is greater than eve and it's up to the players to deal with elements like SDC.

Yeah good luck with that when P2P instancing directly invalidates any agency and there are a dozen tricks to escape reprisal when you do get caught.
>>
>>175405635
>out of hundreds of players hunting salami it's harry who somehow lucks out to get in the same instance
Probably one of the players who had the highest chance of success, considering his assets. (Drive to do it, credits, engineered ships, an entire player group at his back who share the same goal)

He's not some random idiot who completely lucked out. His group had already began working towards killing her when they helped form PAC and the bullshit rules it had. They were on the track to success before the official event even began.

People crying setup are the same people who can't comprehend Trump being elected without outside interference because "it's too good/bad to be true".

Your supposition leaves out one consideration. Who benefits in each outcome?

>Salami mission is a success and the merry gang of unarmed ships goes off to whatever the fuck they were supposed to do.
In this case, everyone wins. Fdev gets a ton of twitch and YT time over it. The Know would probably cover it. SDC would become a holy sanctioned guild that would be basically untouchable from then on. Drew would probably benefit too, but idk anything more about him, so fuck him.

>What actually happened today.
Fdev and Drew look like idiots, especially if they set it up. SDC looks like the troll kings while everyone else who took place in the event are left holding their dicks.

Your scenario is possible, but not probable.

It was another pvp group that entrusted his group to do that

Dads never even got near her - they don't do hardcore pvp or engineering so they just sort of gave up when the defence force began dictating rules, like fully engineered ships only or go home.

Why in the fuck are you trying so hard to defend Ftroop? Everyone on the forums and reddit is mocking the fuck out of them. They are a joke. Are you Red Anders? Sleutelbos? Pecisk? Only they would be so hostile when it comes to defending Ftroop's honor.
>>
>>175408658
indeed if he didn't want the possibility of this salami character dying why even set up the event in the first place
>>
>>175409195
There is no flip flopping. SDC are not dads. Dads were tricked into participating in a player group that was ultimately being manipulated by SDC.

They were tricked because their anti-pvp sensibilities were preyed upon. (Join this group or you will be destroyed if you participate in this event, and upon joining you're likely just going to running an interdictor and letting other kill people for you.)

You either have half the story or are just meming.
>>
>>175409709
Why are you so butthurt that someone doesn't belive that your furry sdc friends are actually capable of delivering such a cunning plan within a limited framework of ED?

And yes it only will bring more positive exposure to ED.

If you think it will sink ftroop somehow you have to actually explain how, cuz right now you don't make sense.
>>
>>175409840
Why even voluntary befriend THE most evil griefer thus always telling him where you are located?
>>
>>175410023

Nobody gives a shit about SDC, and nobody thinks this will kill Ftroop. Everyone is laughing at FD except you, because you think this is some elaborate scheme that they've pulled off and that backfired right in their face because they are the laughing stock of the playerbase now because this event was such a mismanaged and barely functional trash fire.
>>
>>175410005

Well how about you speak for yourself instead of imagining a bunch of invisible friends that laugh wih you for a start.

Lauging at FD why? Simple question rather, keeping in mind they said themselves they are not managing it and consider it a player event.

So where is that big flop you're pissing your pants about?
>>

Yes... and?
>>
>>175410023
>your furry sdc friends

Nobody likes SDC mate.

SDC isn't that cunning. FDev isn't that cunning. There was no elaborate scheme. They tried playing the "new leaf" card and the involved parties just went on to make the worst possible decisions like they always do.
>>
>>175410869

Here's an actual scheme that makes sense, you fucking idiot. They helped promote this shit and even got the third-party devs to get back in line just for the event. If you actually think this was just Drew roleplaying then you're just as dumb as Ftroop.

Under TheMittani, faggotry of this degree was punishable by repeated podding.

>"muh immersion"
>"muh cockpit"
Why would you need a cockpit, when lore-wise, your character's nervous system is literally plugged into the ship you're in, and you "see" with all of its sensors. Also, if you're that much of a lorefag, EVE has an actual reason for why dying doesn't remove all your shit, rather than hand-waving "escape pod" bs.

Elite lore is the best of any game I've seen so far, and got so much better. Part of the story is now going to be written into a book, and the players decided the ending. Can't wait to see if they do anything else like it.
>>
>>175419621
tl;dr some dumb fanfic character is dead

It has to do with the rift. I'm just going to copy this from dickscord

>Rift in a nutshell.. Some "shadowy people" (probably INRA) setup a Dynasty program to create terraformable worlds wayyyy out past human civilization. They then killed everyone involved. Rebecca found out. Told Salome. Salome did a bunch of crap to tell us the same thing. The "shadowy people" did all of this because THEY (Thargoids) are possibly coming back. Oh.. and the war between Imps and Feds? Its a facade for the training they are actually doing to prepare for the possible invasion.

Spoilers: fucking nothing because you could see this all from a mile away anyways with how painfully drawn out this whole goddamn fucking thing is

maybe we'll get to shoot ayy lmaos soon

>tell many people to fuck off for not playing by "their rules"
>SDC joins in, offers """""""""protection""""""""", even after they announced they will be the bad guys
>community sees the bluff from a lightyear away, PAC doesn't with the giant stick up their collective asses being assholes to everyone
>everyone tries to warn them but they don't listen
>probably thinking which wolves would dare to eat the sheep when there's a lion guarding it
>PAC now wants anyone to help salami to come unarmed to the system, and gives them scout/spotter roles on systems away
>dads shoots down any players that want to come to the system with guns on their ships
>lions are now guarding the sheep
>sheep gets eaten under dad's noses
>lots of marital fights on households spiked over an hour
>many children have gone missing asking for their parents
>now Drew has to end his book with a "killed by harry potter" kind of ending

The ammount of disinfo, manipulation and subversion there was is really amazing.

There will probably be alien ships or something and they'll be ridiculously OP and will be locked behind a paywall. Shell out or get shelled on, just like shitgineers.

On the topic of ayylium invasion, I thought up an idea in like 2 minutes

>rip out CQC, its fucking dead and a retarded idea anyways
>put in Naval Air Force Enlistment Program
>basically CQC except its PvE and takes place in the actual game except separated
>get to pick between fighters (1 player), heavy fighter (2 players to encourage friends to play together) and bombers (3-4 players, to encourage even more friends + wings)
>you launch from a Fed/Imp capital and have to defend your fleet from ayylium interceptors and bombers
>fight alongside regular player ships since this takes place in the actual game
>basically dynamic conflict zones that pop up and end once either flagship is destroyed
>players given warning of when theyll pop up so they can go assist players in fighters
>if players take too many losses, humans lose the system (would happen naturally because i'd imagine there'd be too many combat sites to keep up with, players would have to prioritize which systems to hold. maybe have something like credit capitals like in powerplay or something)

Only thing that would be a challenge is the god awful instancing. Hire me Brabo.

Selene does the armor and reinforcement mods so you're fucked in PVP without her.

There was a brief period a while back when there were no working money exploits and payout from mining the three Ps was better than other mission types or BH'ing. Bulk trading still beat it but I decided to just mine instead so I could kick back with a drink and some netflix. Was kind of comfy like that surprisingly.

>some kind of pathetic behavior of a neutered middle age male

It's behavior/attitude that just happens to be common among middle-aged nostalgiafags who played Elite on 8-bits and/or Wing Commander on their 386s. It doesn't actually matter your age or if you have kids or not.
>>
>>175437945
A bit of both.
Dad stemmed from the gen X-er crowd who grew up playing the original elite and wanted ZERO improvements in E:D. They wanted Elite with good graphics, down to the shitty design conventions and gameplay limited by 1980's technology. They have a pathological fear of anything multiplayer because they wake up in cold sweats of that time they were ganked in eve online, and believe all player interaction must be entirely consensual. Being accidentally bumped in open for instance is tantamount to rape.

Most of these individuals are actual dads who remark about how their children enjoy watching them play, and evoke a sort of cognitive dissonance when arguing for the badly designed game elements. Grind for instance doesn't exist for them because they "play the game instead of ginding" and believe "kids should learn to have patience and work for what they earn." In a subsequent thread they'll argue they "have a job and their time is valuable so they don't want non-consensual player interaction (pvp or what they refer to as griefing) wasting their time." But if you confront them on this very point they'll revert back to the muh work and effort argument before going off on a tangent about how kids don't understand, and they're having fun so the game must be fine.

They're literally your 10 year old cousin when someone tells him WoW is shit.
>>
>>175438719
Oh, those were just faggots during my time. I'm of the same generation period (When we were younger, they called us the MTV generation or Doom Generation) and there were always kids who you would go to your or their house to play videogames and they'd bitch if you beat them or gloat if they beat you. They played videogames to feel good and anything that inverted that expectation was criminal. Videogames weren't a challenge like a hobby (playing NES games till you could beat them in an afternoon) they were like a happy ending minus the massage.

I never played Elite back then but I got it on release and a joystick to have fun, and have fun I did. I fucked up encounters with sweaty palms and learned what weapons were good and how to outfit my shitty but basically free ship. Some people learn to fear the hurdle and blame it for life's problems while others practice clearing it.

PvP is a hurdle and failing it is an affront to their ego. It's like people who pull the plug in Souls games. Worst case scenario just let him kill you if you know you suck, why fucking ragequit?

I have kids and they think the game is fascinating. I let one younger one pretend to pilot it with the joystick while I went to go make a snack for us all the time (had the auto-dock module). It's good to see though that there are some fucking places on the internet where gamers retain that which made gamers something to be proud of. Enjoying the challenge and not giving into fucking faggots who wanted to play mario party instead of something with meat.

>>175438223
I've only seen a few complaints paired with it, like PvP aversion and they seem valid. What's the exception?

What I know:
Eve Online is unfamously known to let the players do anything as long as it's feasible within the gameplay. It gave us the biggest still-pictures of a thousand ship battle but most of the time the majority of the player base tend to pay* for someone's fun.

I think you probably know that, but this kind of things is looked down by people who want game that put hard-coded limit so that everyone have a chance to have fun

do you mean suffer due to losses? because that's largely the appeal of nearly everything in eve--the feel of consequence of all actions

>>
>>175439486
Harry potter is a well known troll in game.
Salami is the elite waifu character of the guy writing the elite novels and planned an event in game to determine if she lived and delivered her message or died.
Harry convinced people to come to the event without weapons, because the people who attended were the gullible sort. He and his crew then escorted salami for a while and finally killed her when the time was right.

It's not such a big deal other than to highlight how gullible certain parties were. The real shitshow was the event itself which demonstrated in clear light how shit Frontier's servers are and how utterly garbage the P2P instancing system is.

>they'd bitch if you beat them or gloat if they beat you

You'll be pleased to see they haven't changed.
They often gloat and act smug on the forums whenever they can bring up the fact that they play only in open, despite being completely risk averse and do everything in their power to avoid conflict. As well as not using any third party tools which are practically a necessity if you don't want to waste your time by manually scouring stations to find that one module, or that one ship.

Mostly it seems they've gone quiet as more people get fed up with Frontier's bullshit grind design. They still smug it up when they can though.
>>
>>175439865
The main purpose behind feigning to be an escort was to get the Salome player to friend Harry's account so he wouldn't get fucked out of his shot by E:D's shit-tastic P2P instancing.
It's unlikely they would have had to feign being protection to kill her as it's nearly impossible to actually protect another ship in E:D and the person playing Salome was a terrible pilot who got fucking wrecked by gimbals on a Clipper and dumbfire grom bombs.

I'm not pleased. They're still bitches, and their kids are bitches. I know one I went to school with moved out near me and his kid is a spoiled moron. He bought him on a whim this 90 dollar motorized nerf gun that the kid can't even lift just because my kid saved up for months to buy a normal nerf gun.

He comes in to the scout pinewood race and just bought a car and they gloated when he won two awards and rubbed it in other kids face who didn't buy a premade car but made it with their own hands out of a block of wood as is the spirit.
It sucks that 4chan is one of the few havens on the internet from these people in all categories of life. Or worse the evolved form of the PC crowd.

Phrased it that way you could see nothing wrong even in the worst thought out p2w game.
It's not our business if someone like to play in a sandbox that enforce Social Darwinism but players usually get into EVE not knowing that outside of the bubble you'll just become loot pinata for a minority of players. or that "infiltrating an player corporation and disbanding it" is considered part of the game.

>rich gameplay
That's not rich gameplay, it just mean it's easier to lose everything you had in different way so you start the vertical grind again and EVE is the epitome of grinding and getting bigger ship&gear.
EVE is even the closest you can find of a skinner box, except that they don't keep guinea pigs from killing each other outside the bubble.

Rich gameplay would describe SC's plan for lateral progression, limiting the consequences of dying to the minimum (char&name, not ships&money) and making the game 80% npc so players are not dependent on the metagame.
>>
>>175441558
>I would for the free frag. If for no other reason than it would enrage the other guy.

Only the guy who launches dies because you're invulnerable while docked. It'll make a huge racket of scraping and shield buzzing noises but the ship that stays moored takes zero damage.
>>
>>175441810
The guy who launches doesn't die either. He just gets displaced to the side.

Depending on how big his ship is, he might get killed if he gets stuck between a rock and a hard place and sort of starts vibrating to death, but generally you can just fly away.
>>
So I played for a while and they started advertising this...wingman update? I remember hearing it was going to be a paid update to the base game and just deciding to take a break for a while.

What's the cost like to upgrade from a preorder copy into current and is it worth the additional content? I liked it before but there wasn't much to do other than grind cargo or smash other players. They added mining but it was very incomplete.

I see,
can you elaborate on how E:D specific instancing played a role?
From >>175440584 I think I got the bulk of it: "not a friend = not in the same instance to kill her" but what where player outside the instance supposed to do?

>>175441287
I think he is talking about how it result in separate instance rather than a single shard.
But you are right, many game simply wouldn't work without instance even if it was technically possible. There is only so many player you can have in game area before it get cluttered.
>>
>>175442297
Instancing is lolrandumb. Anyone could have potentially entered Salami's instance, but players who are friends are more likely to be placed in the same instance.
>>
>>175442297
>not a friend = not in the same instance to kill her

You can get instanced with someone even if you aren't friends, but friends are prioritized first for entry into your instance so it's highly likely they'll get in over a random.

The space autists that haunt this are literally EVE-playing game shitting goons who want SC to be first person EVE online. So its really not a surprise. There is a very significant subset of the space sim fanbase that is autistic as fuck about "optimal" space ship design, which is absurd of course because its all fucking theory anyway. That ship autist base who would rather have ships be "efficiently shaped" and whatnot share a large overlap with the literal "goon" section who wants to ruin fun where and whenever they encounter it. So of course they want to combine their tisms and ruin fun by making all the ships samey boring BVR railgun or laser platform that instagib one another with near lightspeed weapons.

Safe bet/speculation are that your (guilty) ship will be recognized if you reach a certain level of detection while in a space the UEE can scan

maybe:
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14926-Design-Notes-Electronic-Warfare
"Scanned Target – Once a target is scanned, all of the information that can be attained with the currently installed scanner suite is made available."

Since I doubt CIG want to keep you criminal scum away from planet you'll probably be able to land on reputable if you do so in another ship and avoid the star-port scanner
Or maybe if there's an illegal landing pad

You have no Idea, but I lack motivation and I'm mostly stable in terms of living conditions. I run into trouble when I have nothing to distract me, I write fiction for a living, but I can't do that literally all the time, and when I'm not writing or gaming or sleeping I tend to think about stuff and when I start thinking about stuff I get stressed out and angry and can't sleep. Lack of sleep causes more stress, frustration and complicates health problems. I'm in serious physical pain pretty much all the time from a collection of highschool sports injuries I was too stupid to recognize and address when I was younger, and the mounting stress really cuts into my ability to block out that pain. I deal with this most reliably by focusing my mind on something else, bur because I got so hyped for SC way back and have spent basically all my Vidya money since then on it, to the exclusion of getting deep into some other game, the lack of meaningful stuff to in SC is kinda fucking with me. I don't do drugs, I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't chase trim, I don't chase twinks either. I produce and consume alternate realities, I cannot consume the ones I produce because I made them and kinda by definition I know all the plots, secrets and easter eggs. I'd be some kind of faggot if I wrote something and then read and was like yea, that was a good story.

My lack of distraction is making me look into the shitty world I do my best to hide from and that looking is slowly driving me mad, because I can see most of the things wrong and can even come up with ideas to fix many of them, but completely powerless to apply what I think, because I'm a borderline Invalid with almost no money. The only thing I can think of is literally getting married and having some kids, but then I would literally become the my dad and If family history is any guide I would be a shitty father, because I'm basically the fifth generation of autistic fuck-ups fucking up their sons.

If you actually have to use spreadsheets playing EVE, you're doing it horribly wrong. Only traders and AFK miners do that, and trust me, they're massive fags. As long as you're part of a large alliance that holds claimable space, you will have a good time. With a large and responsive economy real world inputs aren't detrimental, players will always find ways to pay real life money for advantages - if it's discouraged/actively prevented small transactions become non-viable so you only get the big transactions, which, due to a volatile market tied to in-game events and not to a large number of real world currency transactions, result in very visible market fluctuations/game changes. If, rather that being discouraged, it's sensibly brought into the fold (preferably with an official/allowed means of trade, not only for player safety, but for transparency to RSI) there will be a sufficient volume of transactions of all sizes to shore up the economy against real currencies, at which point the game becomes robust against B2W.

As an aside to that, this is probably the best means to guess how long it will take to earn ships in game. Looking at most MMOs efficient grinding with few pre-requisites (e.g. gather professions in low-risk areas) next a currency equivalent of ~£0.85/hr (a bit more than $1/hr), going up to ~£2.50/hr for efficient end-game grind with all 'high-level' pre-requisites and some player skill. Above this sits very high skill actions (game-dependent, but from what I've seen netting anywhere between £5 and £15/hr - so above minimum wage) and merching, which has no real upper limit, and tends to exponentiate.

So, assuming we have a stable market linked in to game currencies, one may assume that a ship in game will cost its current RSI value + 15% + EP in game. Where for lower level ships EP=0, and EP increases with ship net value as a function of increased player earning potential and demand (so players exponentially drive up pricing with demand as a function of what they can earn - demand is likely driven by estimated return).

Based on this a Gladius, which is an entry level combat-ready ship will probably take about 45-60 hours to earn.

Someone, I think it was Ben, was talking about a Polaris costing 30-40 times the current RSI value ingame, so the 15% estimation is probably too low.
>>
>>175488463
That's where the +EP term comes in (assuming he wasn't talking about direct sales from RSI). Any person/group looking to buy a Polaris will have a high earning capacity, so the market value of the Polaris will float much higher than its base value due to demand.

I should add, the elephant in the room is supply. If the fictional ship factories pump out the ships at an infinite rate, and these prices are affordable (i.e., the market isn't driven by second-hand sales) they may set the market via these static prices. That said, that's a bad idea in terms of game design unless they are very certain of how much currency can be earned. On the other hand, if all high-value ships are sold on a limited supply/waiting list basis, or perhaps auctioned, the demand model makes sense.

does it bother anyone else when they fudge these huge looming moons? another example is in area 18 right now. you can see a big moon, but in crusader, none of the moons are within visual range of the planet, nor each other. there's a couple where you can see big crusader in the background, but not vice versa. I wonder if they'll move them closer to get this effect or save that for future systems. it would be impossible to keep faking it once you can fly seamlessly from surface to space.

There is a type of gamer that gets excited by the idea of being a BTK-style mass murderer. They can't do it in real life as they would get arrested, so they live out their malevolent fantasies by doing every evil thing they can think of in gaming. I hope SC will have a substantial penalty system for these people that forces them to perma rage quit. Then there are the people who are so stupid that they can't learn to go through the airlock to get to the launch pads where their ship spawned so they demand insta-port into their cockpit. My hope is that the game is not dumbed down and these people lose interest in the PU and stick to Star Marine. I'm not trying to insult anyone, just giving my opinion based on 35+ years of gaming.

sc will never be finished, and what I mean by that is that there will never be a final version (excluding bugfixes) they can put on a CD and package to stores. It will be like Dwarf Fortress in perpetual development but will still sell like an actual game.

the airlocks already asphyxiate you if you forget your space suit, it's hilarious. but the philosophy on griefing is a pretty laizzes-faire one; all punishments will be in fiction and appropriate to your in fiction crimes. kill somebody? you're branded a murderer and probably get a public bounty. annoy people by blocking lanes and being disruptive? annoying, but not illegal. find a way to deal with it.

The current Alpha 2.6 has its zone as completely separate, but if you followed the 3.0 demo it's pretty clear that it is all seamless and they can put the moons at any distance they want.
There was an AtV where they moved the sun itself and you could see the illumination of nearby moon changing along.
>>
>>175502209
Its great during off hours. You can usually fill your mission log with a couple flips. It gets slow during prime time. The neighboring system isnt bad for credit grinds either, you can stack high paying planetary scan missions and complete them with a single data point,
>>
>>175510354
>it is all seamless and they can put the moons at any distance they want.
I know, god damn you. I'm just pointing out that they keep placing them close for these pretty demo shots but based on their system design philosophy thus far this will almost never actually occur in the final game. they space the moons and planets out beyond visible range by necessity to treat each one as a hub with it's own business happening throughout it's local space. these alarmingly close orbits contradict that entirely. not a big deal, not 'omg scam', just an observation.

horizons has come out and is now well over a year and a half (?) in the making. it is brutal pay2win in the way of engineers and the capabilities they can give your ships and also hitting straight-up time vampire status in exactly how much effort is required to fully unlock and utilize everything

planetary landings are mostly hollow and you can deploy hired npc fighters one at a time and now crew up in ships with extra seats but that's pretty shallow at this time compared to what was really communicated to be aiming at but maybe it'll get expanded upon.

powerplay was an abortion and the one big lore event that was just pulled by fdev/drew wagar ended ended in a player called Harry Potter killing the author's waifu

there's different ships and shit now and passengers to carry around which can make really solid money for the right people. i dunno what else.

yeah there is very little separating them from simple conveyance tasks in ultimate structure but it typically involves point A to point B ferrying of bulk dudes or more of a directed VIP sightseeing gig in which they might hassle you for detours, small amounts of cargo, and stuff of that nature whilst going between various tourist beacons that each have little lore/text blurbs of varying quality

the engineering upgrades which vanilla players cannot attain and drastically strengthen your ships are a form of p2w

horizons as the season will get you everything
>>
>>175538297

Engineers, which is part of Horizons, lets you modify ship modules through giving percentage boosts to things like damage and efficiency for weapons, thrust for thrusters, and so on. It threw any semblance of balance this game had right out of a window and they are mandatory if you want to PvP. In some instances depending on who you are, you sometimes need them for PvE as well because the AI can be extremely brutal if you don't have a big ship due to aimbot accuracy with plasma accelerators and railguns, along with infinite SCB and chaff spam.

1. Surface missions tend to pay more than space missions. Also, engineering and synthesis materials.
2. The SRV handles like shit (all the weight is in the rear) and most surface missions involve scanning something or blowing up something and then running like hell from the security response.
3. The only reason anyone does powerplay is for powerplay-locked modules, so you pick whoever has the module you want and then quit once you have it.
4. High-paying non-combat missions like being the galaxy's worst tour guide in Quince.
5. Engineer the fuck out of an A-rated FDL before you even consider engaging someone else in their murderboat.
6. It has limpet drones to do the collecting for you now, so you can coast between rocks with your swarm of limpets following you.

>Do you have to chase your shit across the universe still?

You can have ships and stored modules in other systems shipped to your current location, provided the station you're at has the facilities for them. Takes some time and can get pretty expensive though.
>>
>they offered you a voucher for one of the ships of your choices available for sale, which would you buy?

i bulk-traded about 500mil worth of goods before hopping on some ancient sothis/ceos train and chunking out the billion with that exploity shit before going whole-hog on conflict zone massacre mission-stacking and making quite a bit more for credits. i had an anaconda from the start of that anecdote though, just not combat fit. it's a fantastic general purpose vessel that i was trading in for quite some time. the corvette does the least on-damage DPS of the big three hulls (conda/cutter/corvette) on paper but probably has some of the best alpha damage capacity with the twin huge mounts of the lot. cutter's layout is a little muddled but it is the fastest with the highest masslock and probably therefor the most powerful of the bunch while the anaconda simply has the highest raw armor, hardpoint count and potential on-paper DPS of any ship and the best jump distance of the three whilst being a bit of a tub to control. the corvette handles like a 150m long slow-ass fighter in comparison.

my anaconda would likely completely obliterate my corvette were the two to be matched up all things said though. you can get much, much crazier things going on with its hardpoint layout than the federal boat. i run fragment cannons on the either but there are too fucking many on the anaconda for just about anything to have a hope. i long for more people to feed to it.

SIRA is in the process of taking control of LP 355-65. Passenger missions look to be good money and the Anaconda is arguably the deadliest ship right now with a proper loadout.

Some history first: There is a tendency for simulators to be extremely dry affairs, facsimiles of real-world jobs like farming, trucking or piloting in which the only gameplay is the monotonous motions of task at hand. ELITE : Dangerous advertised itself( during the croundfunding phase) as a middle ground where arcade dogfighting took place alongside space trucking and space flight simulator in a dynamic yet instanced MMO enviroment. So a couple years came and went since kickstarter and the spaceflight simulator portion was finished and then shoved to release, skipping all the other stuff promised (or just leaving them extremely threadbare). What happened? Why are those kickstarter backers getting their pitchforks? Well that is soley at the fault of Dads- the name given to the vast majority of the Frontier forums from a survey that found that more than 60% of the forum was over the age of 35.

Dads are a symptom of one of the worst sins to grace any community: sloth. You see these fuckwits wanted ONLY the space flight simulator portion. This was their Euro-Truck simulator in spaaaacccee. So when that part was literally the only thing available in the beta period, they lapped that shit up and never stopped eating Frontier's shit. "its perfect! its so relaxing!" Never mind terrible ship clipping, bugs and the fact that every station and planet was identical and boring. Other features like powerplay and CQC were eventually added but were helplessly ignored as the dads went on space trucking. Frontier looked pleased, why wouldn't they if most of their customers seemed happy with this trite, and just kept releasing features at a snail pace and charging their gleefully insipid dad-base for worthless cosmetics and season passes.

Tldr: They promoted stagnancy, the worst thing to happen to a game. All to keep simulator features that make the game a chore instead of a fucking game.

Can a game have grind and be fun/entretaining at the same time?

I suppose some kind of hard to achieve objective(grindy) must be in place to please the more hardcore/neet playerbase out there. I am not saying the whole game but maybe the very end min max game aspects.

Dont you agree?
>>
>>175579864
>Can a game have grind and be fun/entretaining at the same time?

Yes as long as there are things to do. Elite doesn't have much variety - deathmatch, transport shit, or run around aimlessly waiting for a random error to occur. That's why the grind is so much worse. We jump back and forth between high-res to passenger transport to selling data mines. That's not that much content and gets stale pretty quick.

But the fucking forum dads are just fine with working an 9-5 job then coming home and working in a game some more.

FD should bring up the original witchspace, which was the earlier hyperspace travel where you could get interdicted by the thargoids. But make it so that it's faster or you can jump further. 65Ly max jump in a galaxy 100,000 Ly across is ridiculous. I don't want to waste 3 weeks real time going out to beagle point.

Their weapon loadouts are very similar, but the Vette has an extra huge hardpoint while losing two large compared to the Conda.

Vette has higher armor piecing potential with the extra huge HP but two large > one huge in terms of raw DPS, and since they both have class 8 distributors the Conda has the highest potential damage output in the game.

If you are interested in anime, there's a few "rare" SF you might be interested in.
(skipping the obvious like Cowboy Bebop)
Crest of the Star -> Banner of the Star (hope you like blue haired elve)
Starship Operator
Mighty Space Miners (CANCELLED OAV 2ep)
Planetes (garbage truck in space are awesome)
The Two Face of Tomorrow/Mirai no Futatsu no Kao (manga) : adaptation from a novel, easily rank along The Expanse (but shorter)
Stardust Memories (same manga author as above, he take soap-SF premise, turn them into hard-SF)
Hoshi o Tsugu Mono (same as above, he take soap-SF premise, turn them into hard-SF)
Kodoku Experiment (alien plot better)
Outlaw Star (it's cowboy bebop but inferior)

Novel:
The Mote in god's eyes
Tau zero

What you want is balanced progression even if it take 200h, grind used to mean "failed at being entertaining".
Any hard-to-get goodies that cater to hardcore OCD should be superfluous and have no impact on the gameplay, if you fail to make the distinction you end up enforcing grind for another features

Top of head example : Subnautica (a nearly complete kickstarter game), everything you gather is part of the survival/building gameplay, if you build bigger than needed that's by choice and you can recycle a lot.
At worst it only become grind if you legitimately got bored with the game.

Question: would you still be mad about basic faction-play feature if the game had more stuff to do beside killing?
I'm serious, CR once said that he didn't expected player to care so much about stuff like mining, racing, exploring, scavenging, hauling.
I note that those will ask for player to not be constantly o7 into deathmatch, I've seen many pirate players here looking forward racket rather than looting wreck

>>
>>175595950

>>175596303
Well that's probably because it took them so long to implement some of the features, most of the PvPers left. And with many recent implementations, it favors everything but combat. A small 5,000 Ly trip will net you millions in CR. Everyone is grinding transporter missions. Meanwhile high-res nets probably 1 million CR / hour. Nonetheless, I'm all for more variety. CTF/racing variants would be nice. Maybe some missions or more scripted events.

Besides if you are grinding missions, why not do it offline? I did the quince missions offline. I know online is going to be a shitstorm at quince so I dodge it altogether rather than bitch about it on the forums.

>>
>>175602715
Spring sale at the end of May or early June. It's not too late, but the grind to PvP is on another level. If you're ok with that, then get Horizons, but don't spend more than $30 for the whole thing. The vanilla game without Horizons is probably not worth it, unless it was like $5 or something.

desu I'd hope SC has more markers for progress than progress bars and greater long term objectives than increasing your bank account or amassing a garage of ships. The entire reason people rip on E:D for grind is because there is a big fat nothing besides grind. Let's say it takes a month of play 8 hours a day to get into something big in SC. That's entirely fine IF there is actual gameplay that obfuscates the grind and turns it into a fun experience, an actual game. Meanwhile in E:D if you want to just get the rank to buy a cutter or a corvette because what else is there to do? You have to repeat missions over and over and over to the point that it's just easier to "exploit" shit by board flipping data courier missions because it's the least painful way. That doesn't even touch the RNG scavenger hunt mess that is engineers. Even after the "improvements" they've made it's still bad because the core system is flawed beyond fixing.

Well Anaconda is around $125 mil plus insurance (if you die) plus mods (e.g. best weapons, best shields). Most builds are different. I've seen $200 mil Anacondas and some other anon said he poured $900 mil into his but that's the best of the best and you don't even need some of that shit.

Quince method, I make around $3 mil every 15 minutes but I go slow, check my phone, etc. You could probably do it quicker - let's say $15 mil an hour. That's around 15 hours for an Anaconda. Probably 30 hours to have a comfortable build. Nonstop playing of 8hours / day for 4-5 days.

It's not traumatic or upsetting to kiddo, in fact, kiddo laughs and yells "BOOM!" as my ship explodes (EvE). It adds to the entertainment all around.

Yes, but it's traumatic and upsetting for the dads. That's why they're whining.
>>
>>175621634
"Dad" is a mentality, not an actual father: it's just called "dad" because it's easily associated with a prototypical dad.

>But at least you're getting SOMETHING man, and if you're not any more you still did at a point.

I'm not that guy but I'm pretty sure that anon's point is that being married has locked out some things that he wished to do in his life.

Example: I am a skilled tradesman that does contractual work with a traveling company that sends me out to short-staffed corporations to fill in for them. My lodgings are paid for and I get a food stipend, along with my hourly pay. I can do this because I am not tied down with a family, so I can travel around and see cool new places and meet new people, but I will never know the pleasures of settling down and starting a family.

There's pros and cons to everything and you need to live with what you have, and if you're not happy enough with what you have, you need to take it upon yourself to change it.

I have shit tier fine motor skills. Do I need those for drawing? I got tested at a conscription office - motor skills were below average, hand-eye above average. When I was younger atopic eczema made the skin on my hands flake off so bad they were red and raw through all 8 months of winter. The feeling you get when you try peeling a piece of skin off, and you pull it too far, or in the wrong direction? It was kinda like that. Simply moving my fingers would make my skin crack, and start bleeding if it was really bad. I didn't learn to properly tie my shoes until I was 11, after my hands started getting better. Only went away when I got into my middle teenage years, and they're still kinda stiff and clumsy. Probably due to lack of practice.

To this day I am unable to tie any knot besides my shoes, which embarrasses the fuck out of me. Dunno if drawing boxes and shit could help, but who knows?

QUESTION

Do they show the same things during the Foundry 42 studio tour? If I leak like one little details of what we saw there, is there anyway they can find out it was me?
>>
>>175654086
Well they could potentially track what was being worked on while your particular group was visiting and if it was something unique enough and they couldn't identify you they might just end up banning the group that visited from future CIG events or tours. I believe people have to sign NDA's to get a tour don't they? I mean you'd have to weigh up whether or not it is worth it I believe if it's something they've already shown or put into the game some people have mentioned how long ago they saw it being worked on. If it's something they're still working on and haven't released it'd depend how serious it was they wanted to keep secret to how much they take it seriously I guess.

You simply can't make the entire space like nullsec. If that happened in EvE the fucking game would collapse. What is the ideal solution is to offer pvp only jump points inside secured space (or at least some chance of getting away from authorities in said places).

M50 if you want to be an annoying cunt, but be aware that you must be a good pilot and actually make use of your agility, not just speed. If you are not maneuvering constantly you just be instagibbed.

350R just gets melted by anyone that can aim.

Realistically both the racers are dogshit in combat, 350R can kill things but is not survivable, m50 is survivable bat can't kill things. The gladius is better at combat than either but still gets eaten alive by Hornets and Sabres. Just get an F7C, mount three s3s and an s4 and play the dogfighting game in dogfighter.

Just like Arena Commander didn't mean shit 2 years ago, amirite? Remember how armor also didn't work there? Ah, that AC gameplay that was copy-pasted into PU as is, it's totally not the same thing, amirite? :^)

How long are you planning to keep telling yourself things will get better because "it's alpha"?

Armor does work in game you mongo, its ship armor that doesn't exist, infantry armor is doing its job and its job is not to make your stupid ass survive getting shot in the face.

Better work on gitting gud, because there will most definitely be instagib weapons and people that specialize with them. The only thing that will keep you alive is being alert, mobile and quick with a gun. If you expect to wear heavy armor all the time and be safe you're in for a shocker.

No one can answer without heavy speculation

The way I hope it is, SC fun wouldn't be in power leveling or getting endgame ship. It would be setting yourself objectives (soloquest/coop/org/nonconsensualgriefing) and choosing how you gather money for it.
I want org battle to be based on skills, not on what group broke the economy first and who got lucky his org became too big to fail, capping the number of capital ship would be like choosing amputation to treat an headache
So for balance -> every fancy stuff that lead to imbalance cost as much to operate than to own, got a Javelin? fuel+ammo+npc-crew/paid-human-crew = zero-sum, org will need skills to make those profitable, or operate them at minimum

So following that logic any players -could- get their own Javelin after 100-300h because we can have job and not be dad

The ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM anyway is how Instancing will cope with org trying to field more capital ship than the game can support and how it deal with spamming more to fill the loss.
Ideally more capital ship will mean force projection, not more ability to win and keep a zone.

there is a weapons live underground race circuit in the lore that the devs want to implement eventually in the PU where you can kill your opponents. a smaller but similar thing was planned much sooner in Crusader as well; there's a track that runs right through GrimHex, with viewing windows in the bar, for people to have smalltime death races around that section of Yela, dunno if that's coming in 3. 0 or what.
>>
>>175679481
I still think having a few heavy hitter 'too big to fail' orgs out there will be compelling as entities you don't want to mess with and who have big expensive beefs that hire mercenaries and spies from the general population for raids and intrigue. I kinda miss the old cutlass. The interior was garbage and the engines stuck out a little to far but overall the size and shape seemed much better to me. The new one feels unnecessarily thick, especially in the aurora-sized cockpit
>>
>>175685909
While he's not entirely incorrect, the science behind what he's saying just isn't quite there. The only document I found about practical experiments that even looked vaguely scientific started blathering about "ether" getting in the way to cause pushback on the gun, and made me somewhat cross. I don't think that experiment was legit.

Believe it or not, there seems to be a lot of argument in physics circles about it, though the conclusions seem to be "while there is about as much force in a short-burst laser as a .22, the minuscule time-frame in which it operates and mass of the weapon itself means the person holding it would not feel anything at all."
