The moment I picked to not sell out my team-mates I was like "wait a minute Sae basically is on our side at this point and every confidant understands you're a phantom thief so why should I lie to her." So I thought I could steer it back and told her about the accomplices.
I may just be retarded, but it was pretty obvious in P4 that the dude was not the killer, but here I don't seem to understand the whole thing. Plus she ends up helping you anyways, it feels like the two decisions leading up to the bad end don't really matter.

While I can understand what you mean, it was a mystery story where the identity of the actual killer was one of the end-goals. From that perspective it makes sense that you don't really get an antagonistic force that hates the player right off the bat. I mean, if you don't like that kind of story, it's understandable.

With that said, I'm really glad P5 starts out with some truly detestable villains. I think it's one of the strongest suits compared to the rest of the series.

That's well and good but the problem is you don't do any actual detective work. Hell you do more snooping around in the first month of P5 than you do of the entirety of P4.

The IT is too reactionary. At no point do they purposely enter the TV to try and find clues or solve what the mystery is. SEES is working on Tarturus in their off time and the PT are stealing hearts in mementos ontop of finding dirt on their targets. The IT seems to forget there's even anything going on unless they're running a rescue mission.

Plus I don't think they had to go full EP Joker but we needed way more bodies. Way more. The killer barely kills anyone

I see your point, and this is something I've brought up a few times as a critique of P3 and 4. Both games essentially tie the heroes to a schedule, wherein the movements of the villains determine all the actions of the heroes. S.E.E.S. gets to sit around and wait for a full moon or a gate to drop in Tartarus, while the IT have to wait for the killer to go after someone before they can investigate.

In both cases, it's neither teams fault. There are physical barriers stopping S.E.E.S. and there's nothing for the IT to investigate at all because the method of kidnapping leaves no clues.

This I do have an issue with, in that there really was nothing to find. For most of the game it was hard to tell even where exactly the characters were being kidnapped, let alone how (it takes Naoto to figure out a truck is involved, and even she likely didn't realize she'd be attacked at home).

Of course, while I think this absolves the IT, that doesn't make it necessarily good storytelling. You can freely critique Atlus for setting it up that way.

P5 changing this up was one of it's best features.
