I'm a scrub in dark souls 3, it's my first souls game, I've beaten it (no dlc) as knight and assassin, but my builds were a complete mess and it could have been way easier than it was. I just started my thief run, at firelink now, only tutorial boss down, any recommendations on a weapon I should replace my starting dagger with early on, if I should replace it at all? I'm planning on using anri's straight sword and a luck build, is this a bad idea? If so, can I get suggestions on an alternative before I waste time messing up another character build?

you can't get Anri's until at least after Pontiff, just keep that in mind. You also can't get any Hollow Gems until the Irithyll Dungeon (I think), so you won't have any scaling weapons with Luck. The throne is the kiln. Vendrick literally took the goddamn kiln back with him when he raided 'the land of the giants.' The ground is broken-up around it because it was carved out and lifted back to Drangleic. The castle was built around the place he planted it.

Taking the throne is taking the kiln. It means you control access to the fire, to either link it, let it fade or try to claim it for yourself as Vendrick failed to do.

Nashandra covets the flame and wants it for herself. She just endlessly thirsts for power, and the first flame is of course the greatest source of power in the world. Most of the second half of the game was a defense set up hastily by Vendrick and Aldia to keep Nashandra from the throne. She can't get to the King's Ring because the singing Milfanito are the natural counter to dark things, so she can't even cross the door until you go and fetch it for her. Even when the door to the throne is open, she can't take the Watcher/Defender duo herself and waits for you to do it for her.

There's very little setup for her in the game, really. She appears once to tell you that there's no need for two rulers, and then that's pretty much it until the end when she just kinda shows up. Funny you post Aldrich, I quit my first glass cannon build because I tried going raw ASS and pumping intelligence for no reason, and Aldrich made me quit because the sword did dick all.
This time I just went 22 vigor, 10 strength, and 40 dexterity making me soul level 50, killed Champ early for that prisoner's ring. I killed everything between me and Crystal Soul Spear, and re-specced every point into Intelligence so it would have 60 points.

Both Chaos and Dark seem to do really well on it. I use dark because the Demon Scar already does fire, and this lets me swap between damage types if I find something resistant to one or the other. I haven't played a pure magic build, so I can't really give advice on that, other than people I know seem to be enjoying the new light saber dagger. I also haven't played my quality build since the nerfs to refined so I don't know which is better for that either.

I pretty much only play pyromancer now.

One of my favorite DaS1 builds was pumping 40-50 int ans 30-40 faith with the bar min of 18-20 STR/DEX so I could enchant my BSS, GS and what not while two handing moonlight and the one you get from kalamet (sp? been a while). I don't know if any other moment in DaS3 has ever pissed me off more than actually reaching that ballista. Here all this time I'm exploring the lake and getting shot at by that fucking thing, I'm imagining what kind of torture I'd put its operator through when I got there. And then when you finally do get there, you see that nobody's operating it, the giants who moved it into position are long dead, and the only thing you can do is literally operate a lever to turn it off. Just back pedal. Get far away enough from the non-aggro one, and it will stop trying to melee you. The you can focus on the aggro one. Just make sure to kill demon in pain first.

Phase 1 is the hardest part, but its easy sailing afterwards. Their health get so bloated when you summon.

My advice is to just avoid combat until one is dark and focus on the lit one, then swap out as necessary. The dark one tends to just stay put and not try to close the gap and just spam ranged attacks but they're easy to see coming

as long as you can get to the last phase with 7+ estus left you should be good
