They give you fuck all anti-tank, and two platoons consisting of KV-1's and T-34's to deal with. I had a single Pak-38 (lasted all of two seconds, tracked a T-34 before going down), some artillery (two nebels and a leFH battery), 8cm mortars, and the real joke, an engineer brigade with satchels. Is this like a SABOW sequel thing, or a Tactics sequel? Or its own thing? The steam page seems kind of vague, and if it was tactics, it seems really soon after Mius, and the lack of title. I'd have thought an expansion would just go as DLC like Hooper/China did. I'd imagined they'd release a few more campaigns on Mius before bringing out a sequel too, given how much Star has.
Wait and see I guess.

It's amusing to read the manuals they release. As someone with a rudimentary understanding of Russian, their Runglish is very obvious. It's kind of endearing. They'll be mixing up stuff like in / on, missing out on words that cases would ordinarily cover in Russian, plus other little things that translate weirdly to English, being literally shifted word for word from how you'd say them in Russian.

Click your spotter units and find the circles, that's the arty spots. comms can be laid with wire or by having a leader around. Simplify your commands to put less stress on the command points btw. I mainly micromanage tanks but thats it.
To get mortars and the like firing there is an icon that looks like arty shells hitting the ground. Click that then click the target. Should come up with a 0% and in orange circle/line.

>>175119859
Two different types. On map, off map. You need your spotter to have sight for accurate off map arty. Put the circle down where you want it while spotter has sight, then you can call and shift them away. Drag to make a line if that fits the target better. If you put the markers down in the deployment phase, you'll get better marks than possible after that phase. Mark probably routes the enemy will take.
Number on the left of the circle is time until shells hit after calling, right number is spread. Better line of sight on the position when you mark it means better spread/time. If your observer has line of sight while it lands, it'll zero in.
For on-map arty - each unit has a squad leader. If this squad leader is connected to your mortar (through telephone wires, or being within 100m of them), the mortar can fire without line of sight to its target. Better their communication network/spotter LOS, the more accurate. They essentially acquire the squad leads vision. This is good, as you can have the SL hidden spotting, while the mortar is also hidden in defilade firing. You can also set a target area for mortars, that acts kind of similar to your off-map arty. It absolutely chews through ammo, so use it sparingly. You can also set positions like this for dedicated MG's too. It's quite effective sometimes to use them like that.
If you're not using the squad leader, then you need direct LOS with the mortar itself.
Mortar ranges are like 500-800 max for the 50mm, and a few km for the 80mm.
For communications - generally, try and keep your platoons together. If you need to spread them out (ie, AT guns), make sure you've telephone troops around, and leave them static. They'll get wires up, so it won't hurt your order giving ability too badly. Anything over 100m is out of voice range, so you'll suffer penalties (delay, increased cost to issue order) unless you've got wires.
Basically, press the button that shows your communication network. Keep it together.
>>175122621
Seems like a good idea to me.
>>175121932
You can pirate it if you want anyway, they dont bother too much with the protection and the slavs usually post the updates. Op star is old tho.
>>175122621
>'Im not really sure I think he said drive through all these buildings next to this road to get to the objective as fast as possible'
Use the order panel down the bottom right if you're moving through a town like that. It's generally better, if less convenient. They'll follow the road perfectly, and get to destination faster. Just set the parameters before clicking the order, and click it for them as a group, and they'll seek out the road and move along in formation.
Makes moving vehicle groups way less frustrating.

Because the balance changes for multiplayers made missions much harder. The upside is that you can downgrade the game, the downside is that if you downgrade you don't earn stars from beating missions. I'm not sure on whether or not that would lock you out from unlocking everything.

Steel Division.
Am I the only one having a hard time killing bofors?
Going at them with a tank squad may do it, but at the loss of most of the squad.
Infantry rush is equally retarded to try, since it fires flak at such high rpm that all of my infantry will get spooked in two seconds, sit on their asses, and then get ripped appart like paper on a woodchipper.
Really the only good choice is going at them with artillery, but even then unless you strike a direct hit they'll just run a way and come back later; plus, the only time I've seen the AI push with bofors is on its own so getting artillery to the side the bofors is at is just a waste of time and money.

Place them somewhere and assign them to the AI, they'll do the work by themselves. If you move them, they'll begin to work once they reach their destination.
Dont put them at risk, they're quite valuable and usually there's no replacements.

Exactly. I think the ones laying the wire regroup with the rest of the squad once they finish laying a wire before they run to lay wires again.
>Isvthere a way to see what they've lain?
There's a telephone over their heads in OS, maybe there's another indicator too. In MF its explicitly stated on the left side of the screen.
Keep in mind that moving your unit breaks the telephone wires and they gotta lay wires from scratch.

>Im using the main commander on the edge of the river as a spotter, and I have the telephone troops <100m from him so he can communicate with both of the other commanders and their gun teams so they share vision. Is that more or less it?
More or less. Sometimes the guns just won't have angle (especially apparent with low trajectory guns like the generic AT guns) so it might look like they've a shot, when the gun in actually barred or elevations are bad. You can check the actual gun sight-line with the tape-measure tool if you right click - I find it usually pretty helpful. Sometimes the green disk view thing says 10/10 viewing, while tape-measure states otherwise Tanks have high profile though, so red doesn't necessarily mean you can't fire there, as it'll turn green if you test with the tank there. For mortars and the like, that's how it works though. If you want to absolute guarantee they fire, give the mortars LOS directly, but yeah commander is usually enough.
I don't think the telephone troops need to be within 100m exactly, as they'll get to work laying wires over longer distances if you let them. I keep them close by regardless though. If you're setting up in a defence, the runners will already have wire set up from the start of battle.

They're extremely close to their squad commands, and the squad commands are extremely close and wired to the PL command. Down on the bottom right is the little hat button with 87 next to it. Basically, you've got solid command. Blue line on this means you've got wired communication to the unit too, if you want to check. Little black symbol means radio connection (often in tanks).
See the little "o" button on the bottom left panel? Click it, it'll bring up a representation of your current communications network status. I honestly can't remember what each colour line meant, but I remember it felt pretty self explanatory.

Examples being the above mentioned imaginary Locusts, the lack of 17 pounder Achilles' in the 15th, as well as their use of Daimler Armoured Cars and Humber IIIs instead of Humber LRC IIIs and Humber IVs for recce, while the GAD get Humber IVs but not Daimler Dingoes or Armoured Cars in their Recce options, and that's just from the Brit Divisions.

>>175163005
Replace all AAA with 3 cards of Tri-Polstens as they are all you need, you just have to bait enemy fighters near them and they get vaporised.
Take one less card of Challengers and take the phase B Honeys for the mobile firepower they offer. You should probably add more phase A riflemen. One thing about the PIATs is that the MMG Carrier they come in is great for supporting your riflemen so they are quite a cost effective buy. You may also need more ASFs. If you can use your 17pdrs effectively you won't need as many Wolverines. Take a card of Dingos if you can, as they are a cheap and mobile command unit that can suppress enemy infantry.
>KV-1 just rolls into my gulley and starts gunning down squad after squad of engineers (ie, my only hope of killing it)
>the thing has THREE fucking guns, so everything on all sides of it is suppressed
>no-one left to deal with the T-34
goddamn it, whoever the hero was who made them bail needs a medal.
>>175163392
Thanks I'll incorporate those suggestions of yours.
I haven't really found much success with the PIATs themselves since their range seems rather short and my opponents won't run their tanks near trees that haven't been cleared.
How do you use them effectively?

>>175164192
Your standard rifles lack AT so they are there to ensure that enemy vehicles are forced to keep their distance.
>>175164548
That makes sense
>>175164412
Yeah I've been doing that but my opponent(s) never approach their hiding spots for them to do damage. I suppose they're also there to spook enemy tanks from running over my infantry
>>175164694
Yeah it's purely deterrent, the enemy doesn't approach because they know there will be AT there, but eventually someone's gonna test it and if it turns out you're bluffing you're in trouble.
>>175163392
>>175164192

If yes - is there some good guide on how to not suck at this fucking game ?
>>175164192
dedicated AT infantry is useless don't bother with that shit
>>175165098
Possibly not, it depends on your play style and what size games you play. I find that the best way to deal with tanks as the 15th is to deny them map control by seizing it wherever possible, and then proceeding to destroy them ideally with the 17pdr if they attempt to brute force your positions.
The 15th is all about supporting the infantry, and if you can perfect this, you can practically be on the offensive from the start to finish.
>>175165680
It's the most efficient way to deal with tanks close up and deny the enemy aggressive road movement. Brits get the MMG Carrier with the PIATs which has 2 machineguns with 600m range and can often be the difference between winning a firefight or not.
Machineguns are more reliable support than artillery if you can bring them to bear. En masse they can pin enemy AT guns before they can get off more than a single shot.
>>175165098
Looks pretty good to me.
>>175165915
Yeah I feel like I should be flooding the map from left to right with tons of infantry, its quite different playing a division with so much cheap infantry available per slot. I don't think I spam as much as I should, especially since I wasn't taking as much infantry into battle as most players I'd imagine.

I honestly don't even use tanks/TDs that much with Scots. Phase A Honeys + ARVE is the extent of it as I'm pushing into the middle of the map. Phase B and C is more using artillery, AT guns and planes to knock out hard targets as the wall of infantry (and any surviving Honeys/ARVE) consolidates and slowly pushes on.

Sounds daft but avoid the snap ambush and get within 200m. Pound for pound the us rifle section and squad deliver more rounds than the German equivalent, the issue is that the MG42 and 34 do it in short sharp bursts.
If you can discover the weapon with a scout unit, you can build up superior firepower very easily as the yanks.
The Brits have more of an issue, their firepower sucks. Thankfully they have lots of support options including section level light mortars which are surprisingly brutal.
P.s. VG has a thread that talks about combat mission! Sweet Jebus! It's my favourite game!

I am playing as the British. I'm currently doing the Scottish Corridor campaign which is an uphill slog and a half. I'm running into MG42's every hedge and they're cutting down my infantry sections. Its MGs and snipers. I've lost a few NCOs and 2 Subalterns.
After that Its taking towns with difficult lines of attack. Very close combat and most enemy squads have more automatic weapons that me.
On top of that the battle conditions are awful for moving up tanks. There are mines on the road and going through fields bogs tanks down and immobilizes them. I have 2 Churchills for the next few missions - once I lost them they're gone and they do have a tendency to die to mud.
The only saving grace I've had is that I do have a battery of 25pdrs on call. Its still tough going. Oh 15th Infantry Divsion I feel your pain so much.
So are they adding new divisions today or not?

The commonwealth forces pack is dlc for a community who've been playing these games for more than a decade. It's just bloody hard! I've played it for a couple of years and still suck.
Also the British are just harder to play. Firstly (i think) they have the worst equipment, but more importantly you have to micromanage harder.
The yanks do support weapons on a company level, easy to manage. The Brits break it down to a section level. With the Brits the first thing you should do is break your sections down into teams and do the "find fix finish" mantra on a really small scale.

I quite like playing the commonwealth. I think that while the Americans and Germans have more weight of fire the Brits tend to be able to win the fight and still have ammunition available for the next couple of missions before resupply.
It is quite nice in the campaign having 3 sections, 1 commander, 1 PIAT, 1 Bren team and a 51mm mortar if for nothing else but smoke.
Also the British do support weapons on a company sized scale too with mortars, machine guns etc sent to those who need it.

Historians debate the constitutionality of these wartime actions, and the suspension of civil liberties was later deemed illegal by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Not a lot of people share my opinion but I've had a lot of good experiences with the 15 Scots' MMG carriers in Phase A. At that level, it's a good amount of firepower. I usually send out some with the Recce units and it's been great at building SA and exploiting choke points.

Early war is drastically more interesting than '44 and onward. I'm not sure how this period is still overlooked so often. German armies invading with what basically amount to tractors with machine guns on them, Russians and Finns fighting one of the most brutal conflicts ever in Lapland, the peak of the Desert campaigns in Africa with LRDGs and laughing at Italians. But no, let's recycle the same stories about Overlord, Cobra, and Wacht-am-Rhein.

an early war game would never sell. Naziboos don't know of any tanks besides the tiger and panther and won't buy it. Slavboos/ameriboos wouldn't buy it because the soviets weren't in the war yet, and frogboos wouldn't buy it because it shows them getting humilitated by Germany.

Playing SD, new to this series. I'm really shit with tanks, I get them killed by ATGs constantly. But I'm really good with ATGs. Should I just give up on armor and use guns for anti-tank and infantry support? (Only played 3 games so far, all as Indianhead or 3rd Armored.)
>>175208925
I find phase A HE 129 to almost never work. If the Allies field one or more fighters phase A (and they most certainly will), then kiss your 200 points goodbye.
Why do people EVER do 1942 Germany vs US in robz?
It makes no sense at all. Is it just so that they can get a tiger which the US has LITERALLY no counter for besides AT infantry?
>>175214369
Yes
>>175212778
push with recon and infantry to find their AT guns before committing tanks to the assault
>>175215246
That's how shit I am. I know where they're set and I still can't position properly to engage. The tanks always outrun the infantry, and even when I have an ass-ton of tanks to try and do some Fuller-style expanding-torrent breakthrough shit, they all go into fallback mode. If tanks didn't retreat from everything bigger than an MG, I could just spam cheap armor and get away with it - but even AAA seems to spook the crew.
>>175217047
You should have some MG crews and Mortars on standby to have a crack at any AT guns that rear their ugly heads
>>175217154
I've been keeping some of the M3 mortar half-tracks behind the lines. They're useful but I feel like I'm still missing something. Are there replays I can watch of better players? A good YouTube/streamer anyone would suggest? I gotta hit the drawing board.
>>175217237
What's the best way of avoiding this? Whenever I issue orders to my squads in MoW they always run in a straight line and get mowed down similar to that clip.
>>175217047
>The tanks always outrun the infantry
the tanks shouldn't even move until the infantry has come to a halt in the opposing forest
infantry moves, tanks hang back and help if something shoots the inf. Once the inf has reached a forest, tanks catch up, then you repeat

https://www.youtube.com/user/Cr4sHeRX/videos
also read this, diff game but same tactics https://honhonhonhon.wordpress.com/2016/08/16/basic-forest-entry-technique/
>>175217580
In all of my games it's basically boiling down to winning the opening firefight and keeping the enemy on the backfoot. You can smoke the AT guns if you can't directly kill them.
Remember to keep an eye on routes around the enemy too, plenty of my replays I've smashed right at the main force and there's been a road to the side with nobody on it I could have taken to flank.
>>175218383
So, I'm not disagreeing I'm just put-off because that is the exact opposite of how armored tactics developed in the early years. Thank you so much for the links.

>>175218797
>So, I'm not disagreeing I'm just put-off because that is the exact opposite of how armored tactics developed in the early years
Ingame there are very very few situations where it makes sense to lead with your oneshottable, blind 100pt pinata when you have numerous 20pt squads with perfect sight [some even recon] that nearly always take half a minute to whittle down.
IRL my impression was that tank rushes were mostly done because you could concentrate half a front's power in a small space, more as strategic maneuvers than tactical ones. Same as the threat of the USSR unleashing a hundred hinds on an objective, that's not the kind of thing that's planned by a division or even a battalion commander, is it? I'm not really into realism
>>175219375
Breakthrough tactics rely on armor to produce a hole in enemy lines, and for motorized/mechanized infantry to exploit that hole. But the idea behind the expanding torrent is that you simply go around defensive strongpoints, which is why pockets/salients/encirclements became so common on the Eastern Front - kesselschlacht. SD doesn't really encourage that sort of maneuvering though.
MMG Carriers are fucking based
>>175219810
>But the idea behind the expanding torrent is that you simply go around defensive strongpoints, which is why pockets/salients/encirclements became so common on the Eastern Front - kesselschlacht.
I mean, that's more a strategic level decision than a tactical one. Colonel Hans isn't the one making the call to get a third of the Wehrmacht's pz3 supply and rush for Paris. He's probably not involved in planning the smaller encirclements either, they're still pretty big maneuvers.
>>175220059
It would generally be an operational-level maneuver, but it requires good initiative at all command levels. WW2 made operational methodology into an art.

A bit annoying, but at the same time nice to know I was actually doing well at my front. I wonder If I could have re-enforced him, but every-time I checked his side, his entire frontline was gone and he was rushing fresh units up, so I figured there was nothing to be done besides some air support and I didn't want to risk my side collapsing as well.

CMANO is awesome. It's pretty far down the simulationist grognard rabbit hole but just embrace it. The Northern Inferno campaign is well done, has a story stringing the missions together, and is actually a decent intro to the game in the way it gradually adjusts the complexity/difficulty. Excellent game.

No.
Infantry Spahis came with either a Jeep, a Jeep .30, a M20 or a M3 Scout Car.
Then there's armored Spahis in either a M8 or a M3 Stuart.

None, but infantry AT is very common in the 3rd Armoured and 12th SS. Luftlande can also take a lot of infantry AT.

There's a lot of potential for infantry-only style battles such as those of WW1, but it would be a very different kind of strategy game than what Wargame does. You'd need a good morale system, a deep communications system to model fog of war, order delay, a complicated environment model, a logistics system and the like, to make it interesting.

Not that the soviet equipment is interesting either, 1 KV-1 tank and a bunch of T-26 tanks, they didn't even have anti-tanks weapons. Finland also had 76 and 77mm anti-tank/artillery guns but yeah early war has a lack of equipment in pretty much every country. Continuation war would be much more interesting.
So what exactly made the Flak 88 such a good AT weapon? It fires flak rounds, those are just shrapnel rounds with a timed fuse, no? How is it able to penetrate heavy armour?
How would you rank the German divisions from best to worst?

When it was allowed to be stationary and use its sole superior quality, the gun. The thicker armour on the late modelswas still an easy kill for allied vehicles, its steering was crude and combined with its thin tracks and all the extra weight tacked onto the design, the late model Mark IVs were lethargic things only fit for an army in the process of losing a war rather than any persecution of offensive action, where they typically took losses at a rate comparable to or higher than their allied counterparts.

I think the problem is that veterancy scaling is effective into late game, especially with elite troops-- wiping a vet5 pfusilier squad or a vet3 guard is like killing cockroaches. But Relic (or at this point, GGTheMachine and whichever other community members they outsource balancing to) focus 90% of balancing on 1v1 play, where full wipes are far more sporadic and more likely to be due to player error. Rather than say in a 4v4 where there's constantly a threat of a stuka divebomb on your rally point.
What might be interesting isn't a type of research buff but a mechanic in which veterancy requirements for infantry slowly lower as the match progresses or as you tech up-- like a more balanced version of the Kampfkraft from CoH1. Though then you'd get people bitching about how it devalues squad preservation or some shit.

Its very good at killing soft targets like infantry, ATG, mortars, HTs and has double the range of the ARVE. Think of them as hunting soft targets while your ARVE stays with the infantry as its vanguard

This is a powerful 17th SS deck which capitalizes on the divisions strength. Phase A is your weakest since your mortars ill run out of ammo, your Stug might get blown up and you'll struggle to defend against armored pushes and infantry since you'll have to rely on SPW 223, but when phase 2 starts and you roll out the Marders (keep them vetted) you'll be able to bolster your defenses and start blowing up your opponent with Nebelwerfers.

As I said, there is no reason to take non-command Panzer IVs because Panthers are good enough and cheap enough to cover enough ground. If they cost more you would only use them when you had to, and would fill gaps with Pz IV, but as it is now you are gimping yourself if you do that.

Phase C SK 18 come too late and bring nothing new to the table. Call in arty can clean entire tree lines with a single click
>I'd swap one of those marders to C, why would you need more than 3 in B?
CMD P4 + Marders in B, Stugs as fallback in C. It doesn't make sense to use the phase B Stugs since they're fewer, less vetted, lack the 1200m range and are less cost efficient especially since you need to build up your arty in phase B
>>175259676
>Armored mg which grants veterancy hm...

>Mass > class when it comes to aa, also 37mm aa only has like 1 accuracy?
Not in my experience. Keep as much vet as you can combined with commanders seems to be the only way to kill air that doesn't involve the tri polsten
>Phase C SK 18 come too late
It doesn't, I was talking about one card b and one card C
>and bring nothing new to the table.
Wrong, it can fire at multiple targets at once and generally gives you more flexibility.

Depends on how you define a wargame. COH and Eugen's Wargame series are basically RTS/RTTs, wargames in the purist sense would be the hex turn-based things with 2D graphics and so on. If you want a straightforward game in that category that you can pick up and play I'd recommend Panzer Corps, very straightforward.
If by wargame you mean any strategy game about war then the easiest one to pick up htat isn't dogshit that comes to mind is RUSE.
