So faggets lets settle this,

What do you call the people who work as "space sailors"? Astronaut has to much of a exploration/science angle that we'll need a new word for mainstream spacetravel.

Spacemen?
Spailors?
[insert FTLmethod]ers?
FTLers?
>>
>>175019934
I imagine once its becomes really mundane they'll just be called by their job title or role, you won't be a "space sailor" or whatever you'll just be a crew member on a starship.
>>

that's not minmaxing, minmaxing is having something dumpster like sedentary as your negative trait. At least weak hurts him.

Also, mechanist isn't very good for minmaxing either. There's a billion other things you could pick; all it does is save a few years researching robots

>that mod that lets you create primitive life on habitable worlds
Is it time for a super marathon game where I play the only nation in the entire galaxy and the mission is to seed life, nurture it and let them form into their own nations?

Then eventually work my way around until we're effectively at the start of a new game with dozens of little babby nations starting out, and I'm the ancient fallen precursor empire?

>make gaia planet
>seed life

No, the only victory condition is 70% map control. You literally cant win without going wide .
Going wide too early slows your tech down , so if you want to pretend you're "tall" during the early game, go for it, I guess.
Not sure where all these tallfags suddenly came from, I assume it's another raid meme from /gsg/

*slow claps*

*steps out of the shadows*

Heh... not bad, kid. Not bad at all. Your meme, I mean. It's not bad. A good first attempt. It's plenty dank... I can tell it's got some thought behind it... lots of quotable material...

But memeing isn't all sunshine and rainbows, kid. You're skilled... that much I can tell. But do you have what it takes to be a Memester? To join those esteemed meme ranks? To call yourself a member of the Ruseman's Corps? Memeing takes talent, that much is true. But more than that it takes heart. The world-class Memesters - I mean the big guys, like Johnny Hammersticks and Billy Kuahana - they're out there day and night, burning the midnight meme-oil, working tirelessly to craft that next big meme.

And you know what, kid? 99 times out of a hundred, that new meme fails. Someone dismisses it as bait, or says it's "tryhard," or ignores it as they copy/paste the latest shitpost copypasta dreamt up by those sorry excuses for cut-rate memers over at reddit. The Meme Game is rough, kid, and I don't just mean the one you just lost :^). It's a rough business, and for every artisan meme you craft in your meme bakery, some cocksucker at 9gag has a picture of a duck or some shit that a million different Johnny No-Names will attach a milion different captions to. Chin up, kid. Don't get all mopey on me. You've got skill. You've got talent. You just need to show your drive.

See you on the boards...

This combination, + some extra traits, triggers one of the most militaristic AI in terms of military expending (xenophobic isolationist). They defend their borders furiously, but are unlikely to go into war of conquest and hate everybody. They adopt a Tsundere attitude if you manage to befriend them.

Nigga, I've seen you guys giving wrong advice when it comes to food. So I'm gonna enlighten you.

Normal pop growth is 1 tick per month. When you hit the stockpile (doesn't matter if 200, 1000 or 5000), the EXTRA FOOD that can't be stockpiled since it hit the limit, will go towards bonus reduced time for growing a pop.

I.e. you didn't hit the food cap yet, 1 tick of growth a month.
You hit the cap and is making 3k+ food per month, your growth shoots up to 3 per month (1 from base, 2 from max bonus).

It's also all relative depending on the number of pops in the planet and habitability.

I have taken the tile blocker one a couple times though and it's nice to get rid of all that bullshit without needing the techs or resources. It's not a terrible perk to take if you don't have a pressing need for any other perks, but if you do want the tile blocker perk take it ASAP so you don't waste tech/resources on tile blockers.

>cold worlds orbiting closely to really hot stars (blue stars are hot as fuck, if they have any habitable planets they won't be cold worlds orbiting right next to the star)

It is more realistic to make the habitable zone farther or closer depending on the type of the star. Within the habitable zone, heat would be the same regardless of the type of star. The main difference is the radiation from infrared to UV.

You could have an habitable planet similar to Earth in the habitable zone of a big A - type stars, for example, but you would need UV protection all the time. Seasons would last longer, and you may have lots of moons. On the contrary, M - type stars would be tidal locked with one face always facing the star, there wouldn't be moons, and UV would be low, and you are dangerously vulnerable to solar flares.

That said, it is unlikely that the biggest stars (pic related) have any planets at all. Their lives are too short.

Yes, you build in a flower configuration to set up traps. You one a central one with snare with short-range weapons in the central one, and long range weapons on the far ones. Better to equip them with things like shield/rate of fire/hull buffers/debuffers. They won't stop bigger fleets, but may give you enough time to respond or an advantageous position for your fleet to fight in it.

Dukes/governors in charge of sectors would give lots of options for domestic events. Some governors demanding extra funds for their sector. Maybe asking for their sector to be expanded to claim a nearby system and then getting into an argument with another sector over the same system. Generally, you want to get rid off your artisan class by encouraging them into becoming workers and clerks (taxing the shit out of them) by reducing their living standards. High tariffs at the beginning will balance your budgets and fuck with them rather nicely. Don't attempt to industrialise until a decade into the game though, it's early tech is inefficient. Paradox should add a unique feature so species with those traits can survive terraforming.
They should fix the whole game first but could definitely sneak that in for a little bit of attention-to-detail.

How does Stellaris determine what species something is?

CK2 had one of the comfiest tall games with Merchant Republics before they fucked how trade posts worked.

You could easily make a stable merchant republic anywhere as long as you could fill a gimmick, so I started as the Victual Brothers and settled in Prussia.

Now of course, Prussia and Northern Poland in general has nothing special to them and is dirt poor but you could eventually develop them to compete with most major cities of the time, sure you could never compete with Venice or Genoa toe to toe but I could easily end up being more important for tech than them and even cities like Rome (due to huge investments in universities and the trade posts but lets get to that some other time)

I can't get this comfy tall feeling from Stellaris, maybe you could if you started in a place with a lot of minerals at the start, got a ruler with deep connection, go prosperity and then rush to get some of those expansion things that make outposts cheaper but even then, you'd be extremely limited and would be choked out end game, then again I don't have Utopia and that means no habitats but the way you are suppose to procure them seems to be random, and praying to RNGesus for the correct megastructure seems arbitrary, long story short, I just want to play as space-traders and artisan and you wasted your time reading this incomprehensible mess

No dude I totally get you, the problem is this game has lots of good ideas but everything is just criminally underdeveloped. Trade/economy, government systems, military/wars, diplomacy, pretty much every system needs major work to make it actually engaging.

Expansion is pretty much more of the same. Hive minds? Cool idea, totally half assed. Same with the ascensions.

Yeah, but if you have human portrait sets separated by ethnicity and wanted to run them all as different empires scattered around the same galaxy with a Tomb World Sol, they wouldn't count as the same species.

Right?
>>

>>
>>175062043
People think strategy is all about how simply moving units around and besting another player. Yet at its core, it isn't, its about dealing with uncertainty. Thats why the best strategy games have significant random elements, to create uncertainty. Panzer General (with Fantasy general), Steel Panthers, Atomic's V for Victory series, are the best examples. Most of the games people cite as "good strategy games" actually aren't strategy games at all. Chess is not a good "strategy game" neither is X-Com, starcraft or most RTS. They have their own strategy elements, but not games that require good understandings of probabilities and their effects on planning..
>>
>>175062818
Yes.
Specifically they'll count as sub-species of the one they come from.

>>175062948
No.
You only customise the phenotype of your leader. It doesn't affect what species the game considers them.

Unless you mean you separated all the phenotypes into different sets via a mod. In that case they would be considered different species.
>>
>>175063109
Yeah, specifically modded.

This guy is probably very, very right.

It would also explain why the AI in grand strats tends to be pretty shit. It just can't deal with all the uncertainty. A computer can play chess just fine because it is what it is.
You gotta look at the big picture, take everything into account, look ahead at the future consequences and then say fuck that and just do something different and roll with the results. Computer's can't do that.

When you're playing a game of numbers the semicircle wins.
1) Every one of your ships is presenting its smallest profile
2) You score critical hits against enemy flank armor
3) Maximum heat dispersion means maximum fire rate
4) Maximum distance between your ships to increase evasion
5) Less chance of friendly fire and no chance for enemy to score a multi kill
6) Maximum cross fire against enemy ships for more multi kills and the chance of a miss hitting another ship.

Even if it only gives you an extra 10%, between equal forces an extra 10% is an assured victory.

That's dumb. You can, you know, just rotate ships to present the smallest profile, no matter the formation.
>2)
And enemies in the side rectangles don't? Not to mention your semi circle is thickest at the center, meaning less flank hit than if it was a reversed semi circle.
>3)
And three smaller formations don't have a better heat dispersion than a big one? Are you sure?
>4)
Because other formations are restricted in how much distance to put between ships?
>5)
Right, I'm sure that ship at the back of the semicircle has less chance to hit a friendly than the one at the back of the rectangle.
>6)
As opposed to somebody in the center rectangle hitting all the ships from the front of the semicircle to the back? Or even worse, someone coming from the side and being capable of shooting through the whole diameter and not just the radius?

You're dumb. If you are encircled you CAN'T rotate your ships to the smallest profile. Pointing at one guy means pointing away from everyone else.

>2)
You're dumb. An encircled enemy shoots outward. The enemy on the outside points in and every one presents their smallest profile

>3)
You're dumb. Whoever radiates out to barren space and dumps waste heat on their enemy has the advantage.

> 4)
You're dumb. Weapons have a finite range. An encirclement places all your ships at their optimal range while enemy blobs have a mix of good and bad ranges to deal with.

>5)
You're dumb. an encirclement can always target an enemy ship and missed shots come out harmlessly on the other end. A blob has to shoot through its own formation to target enemy ships which means loss of targeting efficiency at the best and shooting your friend in the ass at the worst.

>6)
You're dumb. Circles don't have straight lines. You can't blast a dozen ships in a line.

In short you're dumb. Don't quit your job and don't worry about becoming a galactic hero any time soon... kid...

IM SICK OF THIS FUCKING MEME

>tfw unnable to turn pops to fuel
>>
>>175073791
You'd need Space Albanians.
>>
>>175072527
Make them change targets when the first is destroyed or make it so they're only fired at ships with enough of them to destroy it
>>
>>175070134
>habitats too?
To be fair, the mining building for habitats is "asteroid mining"
Full retarded ringworlds are actual mines though
>>
>>175073467
>>175073704
Or unity gainz

>>175073729
Kek, are they asking you to leave?
>>
>>175073871
>use all of the minerals in a system to make the ringworld
>mine your own ringworld for minerals you already mined to make it
nice job paracucks
>>
QUESTION
Can enemy destroy Habitats?

>>175074003
Minerals are waste from reactors, now shut up
>>
>>175073729
kek another empire spawned right on them too
>>
>>175074043
Never seen it happen before, but I assume they can be invaded considering there's an army layout.
>>
>>175073871
>empty all the planets into a system into a giant circular trough
>mine the valuable materials out of it
Makes sense to me.
>>
>>175074003
I guess you could pretend that the planets you destroyed to make the ringworld weren't processed so you're mining them, but that means the ringworld was just kind of thrown together instead of being a precise engineering marvel.
>>
>>175074369
I guess they just peeled the planets like an orange and stuck the peel to the ringworld

Setting your empire ahead an extra decade of research and 2 decades worth of resources? Master of Nature is a pretty solid pick, it just only works as a first pick and is useless after that.
>>
>>175074546
Master of Nature is useless. Terraforming removes tile blockers anyway.
>>
>>175074469
Investigate it. What can possibly go wrong?
>>
>>175074598

>It's the retard who assumes terraforming is always possible at all times of a playthrough
>>
>>175074469
Liberate tuteme ex inferis
>>
>>175074606
A 100% chance of your science offer going insane, informing you that they're going to "the other side", and murder-suiciding the entire crew.
>>
>>175074469
Is that a modded event?
Bit on the nose for a reference
>>
>>175074702
I thought it was just a reference, but it looks like they just ripped the movie.
>>
>>175074645
If you're eventually going to be terraforming anyway, then picking Mastery of Nature means wasting an ascension slot on something with no long-term utility, which is kind of the point of ascension perks.
>>
>>175074469
That the pre-FTL mod?
Looks cool.
>>
>>175074793
Nothing to do with Pre-FTL.

>>175074730
I think it's either Extra Events or More Events.
>>
>>175074793
i mean yeah but its kinda unoriginal
>>
>>175074598
Cheating gives infinite resources anyway so what's the point?
>>
>>175074761
What movie?
>>
>>175075068
You're retarded.
>>
>>175075129
Event Horizon.
>>
>>175066741
>>175066891
I really like it, but I am guessing it will be a bit "early" for release. I am not surprised though, since now they belong to sega so I guess they are pushed.
No matter, amplitude knows how to improve their games.
>>
>>175075129
Event Horizon.
>>
>>175063352
Computers recently won poker tournament. They can deal with uncertainty just fine.

Mankind is already obsolete.
>>
>>175075147
>Event Horizon
You mean every space horror movie besides Alien?
>>
>>175075478
First FTL triggering self-mutilitation is pretty clearly event horizon.
>>
>>175075478
Pandorum doesn't have anything to do with FTL or "the other side". Same with Sunshine.
>>
>>175064248
The battles in LOGH look so fucking stupid. Just thousands of massive ships firing at each other untill one side gives up, there are no tactics involved, the crew just fires at whatever they spot hoping to be one of the lucky few that don’t get hit.

How come they never invented a way to wage their war that is less wasteful when it comes tzo manpower. Even if they can make million new ships every week and they women give birth to hundred million baby boys every week, the men who die in these battles are gonna be missed by someone...
>>
>>175075697
Sunshine was a bit stupid.
>>
>>175075873
>ad hominem
Lol okay.
>>
>>175023813
I like this
>>
>>175075838
Its literally Napoleonic wars in space with space consisting of tight corridors and lanes instead of open space. Several battles and their tactics are flat out ripped from Nelson.
>>
What do I do if a cunt is just destroying snares and retreating over and over again? He's only losing 6 corvettes each time and he keeps rebuilding them
>>
>>175023813
So long, cowboy.
>>
>>175076030
What?
How is saying a movie is stupid ad hominem?
Are you retarded?

human fallen empire goes radical.jpg

Anyone else use Human Fallen Empires? How strong are these fuckers now that they've radicalized? Fleet strength is equivalent but they have a tech advantage. Also fuck sectors, I'll just micromanage all my planets.

Lol okay.
>>
>>175074348
If you are somehow making the through like molding clay then sure, go ahead and mine.
The real question is why is your empire still on 3-dimensional space if you can do that.

But if you're mining everything to place it somewhere else then fuck you im not even going to explaing why this is retarded.
>>
>>175076497
I never said anything about event horizon, spastic.
