What really bothered me about Vic2 was default unit names after conquering the city.

It'll be something else other than "1st" infantry or whatever because the game still thinks the previous AI owner still has the infantry out. It's a small thing but it's one of the few things among ugly borders (like the French algeria strip) that makes me lose interest in a game. I think the farthest I got was 1880 before I dropped any game. Same thing with EU3, dropped it usually by 1600.

Has anyone made a grand strategy game yet that does not suffer from ugly borders? I think the only way I can enjoy one now is if it's randomised world like Civ but with grand strategy mechanics basically. I'll probably end up playing only Stellaris once it gets one more expansion or so.

i really want my grand strategy fix without these little obsessive shit bothering me. i swear grand strategy games have pushed me towards autism

Quick questions for CK2:
If I improve light infantry tech does the upgrade all of my realm's units?
Or is it more limited, like only troops from my own demense?
Also if I build a training grounds in my capital will that affect all the units from that county or just the ones from that specific demense?
And how is this all accounted for when you combine troop stacks?

I ask because I have an extremely upgraded capital with 3 castles and very good technology and I'm wondering if this has all just been a waste of time since I could have been saving up the money to buy more mercenaries for the endless war effort.

CK2 is the most dynamic of Paradox games, you can do a lot of shit thanks to the character systems. There are lots of things that can happen. It's the most unpredictable one.

Vicky 2 is the least dynamic one. HOI3/4 might be even less dynamic but they are so different from the rest that I don't want to include them. In Vicky 2 you just know that you have to get to 100% literacy, spam factories and you win.

Then, use Daemon Tools Lite(http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/downloads) to put the .iso file on a virtual drive. If you did it right, a Japanese installation window appears. Close that window and run the patch. It should be self-explanatory from there.

Laddos I just realised why eu4 is more popular than vic2, and why eu4 is both a blessing and a curse to gsgames
If you think about it, eu4 is just like civ5, but with more options. everything ticks at the end of the both (ie end of the turn) diplomats / merchants / religious advisors can take 20 days to move, so its just like moving something during your turn.
Its popular because turn-based strategy is dying, due to its stop-start more casual nature.
eu4 is just a more in-depth civ game, but not too in-depth to make it hard to get into.

So yes. Jewhan is a sneaky kike bastard who sold out at a fantastic opportunity when the market was there, but he also introduced a load of new people to grand strat games.

Newfag poorfag here, I stumbled upon the concept of grand strategy games recently and got EU3:DW since it was the best combination of easy to find and download, relatively low learning curve (according to a 5 minute google search), and most importantly that I could actually run on my toaster of a laptop since I apparently can't run any incarnation of EU4. Since I've picked it up, I've played a few saves as the teutonic order, minamoto, the aztecs, brandenburg, and sweden, each lasting for around 100 years give or take. Currently on frankfurt, trying to see how far I can take them just by blitzing towards tech with an emphasis on being small and economic and avoiding other people's wars. Maybe when I have 10+ tech levels over absolutely everyone else I'll just steamroll them so that even if the emperor bitches about it, he can't stop me. Haven't decided yet.

The thing is, I haven't slept well in like 5-6 weeks. I used to get like 10 hours a night, now I wake up, open my laptop and load my save again, play for around 15-20 hours straight before I get too tired to continue, then wake up and do it again. The actual time I wake up and fall asleep varies and is dismissive, and I end up eating whenever I actually notice I'm hungry rather than on a semi-regular pattern. I don't even give any mind to my other hobbies anymore and my backlog has not only been not touched, I'm not even keeping tabs on what should go in it.

I have NEVER been sucked into a game like this before. is it just because it's a new genre for me, am I maybe a little autistic, or is this just norrmal for new people trying to overcome the learning curve? Regardless, I figure I'll lurk here for a while and hopefully absorb something useful, if only just perspective. Just from browsing this thread, it seems like this community has a decent learning curve too.
