The issue is that it is an over simplification of something that didn't need to be changed. And also there are fundamental differences between the two inputs

Standard shoryuken input forces to hold forward before doing the input

You can also do the first half of the motion, and then hold onto the forward part briefly before completing the motion. This will allow you to walk forward before doing the DP, giving you options to anti air at different specific ranges for example

The new DP motion is a lot easier to mash out, instead of having to commit to an input which can take a second to get out

The new input of down down also means you don't have to take into consideration where your opponent is on the screen as you don't have to hold towards them.

This means you can auto-correct your DP to beat crossups and other side swapping mixups without having to pay attention
