I started as Jianzhou, the little Manchu tribe in what is today the far east of Russia, on the border with North Korea. It's a tricky start but once you beat Ming you're stronger than literally everyone.

So, Im playing as Italy. Formed it out of Lombardy pretty early on, and the only major event that threatened my playthrough was when half of my family died in a plague and my seven year old heir was forced to install elective monarchy. Luckily, his sister, being one of the few survivors, managed to overthrow the elected king and reinstall us back on the throne after only a few years of being forced to suffer the indignity of being a Duke.

For now, I'm fabricating claims on Sicily, and laughing at all the germanics and franks murdering each other and forming four distinct nations out of the border-gore.

Also, Saxony some how is creating an empire in the nordic lands. They seem to be slipping up though, sweden is giving them a beating lately.

Cant wait to see what it's like in 1100!

I just flip stuff around constantly until the numbers are the highest, but in the case of having all India I'd go with main trade port in Doab, collecting in Goa, pushing Ceylon, pushing Kashmir. Then push Bengal and Indus when you get the merchants. Then downstream stuff with more merchants. Most of the time it seems the most money comes from just literally collecting from every node you have power in though.

You want to push through as many trade nodes as you can before collecting, without losing value to other countries. If you have 100% influence over indian trade then push from Doab, Bengal, and Ceylon and collect in Goa. If you had more merchants you could work your way further up the chain by pushing from Kashmir or Malacca, or even pushing to Indus and collecting there. If you take the Gulf of Aden trade node you can even push everything there and collect it all to cuck Europe out of trade income.

The thing that M&T is doing right and Paradox isn't, is that it's creating simulation systems instead of tacked-on features. It's making a population system in order to properly simulate development instead of just adding a feature where you can click a button to develop. It's adding a timber management system instead of cloning manpower in a number called sailors that never matters anyway. It has an education system that simulates literacy and research instead of just abstracting it into a tech penalty number you get from magical institutions that spawn everywhere. Those kinds of bottom-up simulation systems are what make the best Paradox games good - Victoria 2 is a perfect example. Every country in Vicky 2 is different not because they each have unique gimmicks and shit tacked on by DLC, but because their populations, their religion, their culture, etc. are all different. The population system creates unique environments in all parts of the world, without forcing it through stupid gimmicks.

However, because of Paradox's new DLC model, they're stuck creating gimmicks, because how else will they be able to consistently sell DLC? They have to pump out new focus trees for HOI instead of implementing deep systems that simulate all the right things for them, because if they don't they won't be able to divvy it up and sell it piecemeal. They have to implement stupid magic shit in CK2 because - besides running out of stuff to add - they can't add anything too big because it would detract from other DLC.
