Also think in advance what you want to roleplay as and what questlines you'll do, where you'll live, style of fighting, etc. and reinstall the game and work from the ground up with mods instead of keeping ones you've been fiddling around with the last 100 intended playthroughs you quit. Never know if part of the reason you get bored is the combat mod you initially thought was ebin got old and there are better ones or you even realise vanilla was balanced better.

Currently playing a Dunmer wandering from hold to hold to learn magic from the court wizards before making my way to the college in order to impress them. He's pretty bitter about being from a sub-family of House Telvanni and never getting to learn magic because he was orphaned in Cyrodill. Fuck the Synod. Fuck the College of Whispers.

The Journal mod also really helps me get into character. I probably spend as much time typing as I do playing. Not for everyone though. Was thinking about posting it here and getting some C&C if anyone's interested.

If not day 1 then soon after. The game will be even more difficult to mod and have even less replay value than vanilla Skyrim. Between the lackluster ability to mod it and the introduction of paid mods via bethnet, I fear the modding community and series as a whole will either change drastically and alienate its existing audience, simply crumble, or an inevitable combination of both.

Radiant Spawn Engine is great for this. It divides Skyrim into various territories that factions will fight over, like in Mount and Blade. Each territory has an amount of soldiers assigned to it, and killing soldiers of that faction in the territory lower the overall amount. In other words, if you wanted to support the Empire without joining it, you could lead guerilla raids in Stormcloak territories to attack patrols and camps. By lowering the Stormcloak numbers in this way, it would be easier for rival factions to take territory from them.

What level do you guys recommend playing through Vigilant at?

Me again guys, update on the Oblivion clone ordeal if anyone remembers it.

The circumstances surrounding my corrupted clone in Oblivion are simply puzzling me to no end.

Long story short, I had this big climactic battle with a permanent Corrupted Clone of my Oblivion character, who I dubbed "Nickies Black." Since he has 100% Resist or Reflect basically all forms of damage, the only way I thought I could kill him was by throwing him into the void at Arkved's Tower (ironically, the place where I first got the Skull of Corruption needed to create the clone). After a few attempts, I finally dropped him in. He died; he must've. I watched his health bar vanish, and combat music ended.

Fast forward about two weeks, during which I spent my Oblivion playtime running out of the map and such. Eventually I decide to fast travel back to the void (on an alt save as not to lose my progress running out of the map), to Arkved's Tower since that's where my last map marker still was. I figured, ah, what the hell, I'll go check out the Void zone again. I blaze through the dungeon and get to the zone in question.

I walked in and thought "Huh, I don't remember going into 3rd person." I press the right stick to switch cameras, but only then do I really go into 3rd person. I was staring straight at the clone, alive.

Hopefully from the way I was playing you can see that I was NOT expecting to see him again.

To make things weirder, I took a screenshot of that moment, and my character has this weird dumb smile on his face. Pic related.

Can someone who knows a lot about Oblivion help explain? I thought I knew a lot about this game but I'm dumbfounded. If the void couldn't permanently kill him, what could?

Clouds filled the sky on a calm afternoon a week later, littering the air with a few small snowflakes. Kaarina and Thorindor were tracking a small pack of wolves whose tracks had gotten a little too close for comfort to the road near their cabin. Kaarina was hesitant about it all at first, unsure whether or not he would feel any kinship with the wolves. He reassured her that though he would avoid it if possible, he had no problem with killing them if it came down to that, it was more important to put them down if they were causing trouble. They followed the pack's movements, Kaarina using her eyes and Thorindor using his nose. The wolves led them south, further up in altitude and nearer to the mountain range, the snow getting a little heavier as they went along.

It wasn't long before Kaarina caught sight of them. Seven ice wolves of considerable size were pawing around at the roadside, just beginning to tear into the carcass of a freshly killed elk.

"This doesn't bode well," Thorindor uttered quietly. "They're much too close to the road, they'll cause problems for travelers if they stay in this area. I'll get them to go somewhere else, wait here for me."

"Are you sure we shouldn't kill a few?" asked Kaarina. "What, you just want to go talk to them and ask them politely to screw off?"

"Yes- well, no. That's not quite how it works, but they will listen."

"Yes yes, I know. It's just- I'd just rather we didn't pick a fight with all these wolves right now. There's more than we thought, some must have joined in with the pack since we began following them."

"Well, okay. Whatever you think is best. I still say we could use the extra meat."

"But we have four whole jars full of veni-"

"Oh no you don't, you're not getting any of that. Those have to soak for another week yet." Though it was quiet, Kaarina could have sworn she heard a lupine growl come from his throat. The jugged venison marinating in the cabin made him grumpy. She forbade him from touching it, meanwhile it had tortured his sensitive nose the whole previous week.

After a moment, he shook his head to clear his mind of the food taunting him back at home. "There's better game in the woods, I'll go try to break this pack up. If anything goes wrong, fire away."

Thorindor began his walk toward the pack. After only a few steps, the beasts turned at the sound of his feet crunching in the snow, but they did not attack or flee. They only paused, waiting until he was among them. Thorindor did not speak or motion to them, only locked eyes with the alpha. An understanding was soon reached between them.

Kaarina was waiting back where Thorindor had left her, watching the exchange. She may have resolved to remain human, but her curiosity with lycanthropes remained unfettered. He was supposed to be talking to them, right? Or was he controlling them? From her distant vantage point, she couldn't make out anything. Emboldened by the sight of him standing safely amongst the pack, she began walking closer for a better look.

The wolves were not as welcoming to her approach.

The ones nearest to her caught sight of her first. They turned towards her with a growl, and took off charging at her. "No!" Thorindor shouted as he raised up his hands in a last ditch effort to stop them. It was too late, the whole pack was in tow now.

Kaarina saw them coming from about twenty yards away. She grabbed her bow with one hand, an arrow with the other, drew, and released in one fluid motion. The leading wolf collapsed fifteen yards away with an arrow buried between its eyes. The next one up fell ten yards away, this one with an arrow in its chest. She lined up her third shot, then lowered her bow when she saw him. Thorindor was running among them, he had caught up with the pack from where he was standing. He brought down his greatsword across the alpha's back, ending him swiftly.

All at once, the assault stopped. The remaining wolves halted for a moment, looking up at Thorindor holding his bloodied blade, then quickly turned heel and ran for the mountains. He watched their retreat to ensure that they would get out of sight.

I personally have very few issues. Here's the main stuff you need to know.

-You will get a loading screen once after you boot it up that lasts around 2 minutes, after that it should be smooth sailing, unless the loading is from one interior cell to another, in which case you need to suffer through long loading times until you make it outside.

-The Hostile and Civilian spawns work fine but can tank performance, disable them for less stress on the CPU.

-If you have Live Another Life installed, go to the bed and spawn at your destination before activating this mod.

-If you want the small factions to be able to grow in size, disable the Hold Borders option in the MCM.

He turned around when he heard a soft whistling sound. Kaarina had let one last arrow fly out of frustration. He turned back to see it plink off one of the wolves' legs, and it gave a yelp as it limped up the slopes behind the rest of its kin.

"Shit," Kaarina muttered under her breath. Thorindor looked back at her, the look on his face said everything. "I know I know, I shouldn't have done that. Anyway, we better go take care of it."

"It's getting late. Are you sure you want to follow a pack of wolves into the woods right now?"

"His leg's broken, it should be easy to find him. If we hurry, we can even drag one of these guys home before dark."

"Alright, fine then. Let's go." And with that, the two ran into the woods after the wounded creature.

It was a bit of a trek, the snow clouds had passed by the time they found the wounded wolf resting on the mountainside. It let them approach, acting as if only Thorindor was there; he wasn't going to put up a fight. Thorindor knelt down by him, pulling a hunting knife from the strap on his thigh.

Without warning, the wolf snapped at his face. Thorindor fell on his back to avoid it just in time, and the wolf's carcass fell on top of him a second later, arrow protruding from its neck.

Thorindor pushed the beast off of him. "Sneaky little sh-" he cut himself off as he noticed a strange green aura about the wolf's body. "Spriggan!"

They both looked around frantically, they were surrounded by trees. Thorindor had his sword at the ready, Kaarina got in close to his back with an arrow at the ready, watching his blind spots.

She saw it before he did, emerging from a great pine like a phantom. She let her arrow fly, but it merely glanced off its thick wooden chest, leaving a small splinter. She leaped back and Thorindor quickly took her place, swinging his greatsword into the monster with all his might. The blade caught in the Spriggan's side, stopped by the solid wooden body easily, he may as well have been trying to chop down a tree. This was no ordinary Spriggan, but an Earth Mother, as Thorindor realized much too late. Unfazed, the Spriggan brought down a club-like appendage on his head, knocking him to the ground, stunned.

It turned its attention to the archer. Normally she would run in this situation, run like the wind and never look back. Thorindor's motionless body kept her anchored though, leaving him face down in the snow at the mercy of a monster was the furthest thing from her mind. She backpedaled to keep it away from him, and let loose one last futile arrow. No use, it was closing the gap fast. She threw down her bow and let out her most fearsome war cry before she charged. If her arrows weren't going to work, she swore by Talos she would punch it apart.

She couldn't.

She was thrown to the ground with enough force to knock the wind out of her, and for a moment the Spriggan just stood above her triumphantly. She was the one that this vengeful spirit of nature was after. The cruel fiend raised its wooden claws, and unleashed a torrent of glowing mist. It burned through her pores as it seeped under her skin, setting her entire body on fire with pain. She recognized the sensation as poison, but never before felt anything this potent. She couldn't even scream, and passed out from the pain seconds later.

Thorindor roused himself and lifted his head towards the commotion. He blinked once, and saw the spriggan standing over her. She wasn't moving, and the stream of poison wasn't stopping. Rage took him in an instant. He planted his hands, which were now massive paws, into the ground and launched himself at the forest spirit, bounding on all fours. The Spriggan didn't have a chance to react before a massive claw pummeled it back. Another swipe sent woodchips flying, bringing the Spriggan to its knees. The blows continued, its body was being shattered at a rapid pace. A warm glow emanated from the Spriggan, it was attempting to regenerate in vain. A second later, the glow was gone, and so was the Spriggan. All that was left were splinters of wood.

He remained standing there for a few seconds, his mind blank. His anger faded, and his thoughts returned to him, he remembered that Kaarina was on the ground. He turned around quickly to check, she was still there. She hadn't moved. His mind started racing again, panic and dread took him at once and were about to overwhelm him when he heard it; a heartbeat. She was alive! He looked around for something, anything he could use to revive her. Neither of them brought their backpacks or any potions, nothing with any healing properties grew in these snowy mountains, what else was there? He heard her next heartbeat, and realized how dangerously far apart they were. He was running out of time, he needed to do something right now.

He thought as fast as his wolfish brain would let him, he knew there was only one thing left to do. He remembered his encounter with the wolf brothers of the Companions, and how they explained how they turned, with the blood and the ritual, and how it caused near instant transformation. It was the only chance he had. Without a second thought, he plunged his fangs into his own paw and wrist, drawing blood, and held the wound to her mouth. He didn't know if it was working. He held his arm in place, intently waiting for her to start transforming at any second. A minute passed like this, and she showed no signs of life.

Suddenly her eyes shot open, fully dilated and animalistic, and she was breathing in uncontrolled gasps. Thorindor was so shocked that he almost fell over backwards, but regained his composure to see her through her first transformation. Only... it never happened. She was out cold again. Was she... gone? No, he heard that her heart was beating normally again. Her chest was gently heaving with each breath. She was just sleeping contentedly. He couldn't believe it, but was overjoyed that she was somehow still alive. It took a moment before he remembered where they were, they weren't safe just yet. He gently cradled her in his arms and rushed her home.

Kaarina was awoken by morning's light peeking through the cabin window. She was utterly confused, and sat up to get a better idea of what was going on. Why did she feel so horrible? Why was she sleeping in so late in the day? Where was Thorindor? She then noticed the aroma in her nose. She knew that smell, it meant that the jugged venison was done marinating, she remembered from the time her dad made it. Something was different though, it was so much stronger, so much so that it was downright disquieting, but so irresistible too. But wait, if the meat was finished, that means....

Then it hit her. She realized she was sleeping for a week, and where she was last. She remembered the tracking, the fight, Thorindor falling, her falling, the poison... how was she alive? Thorindor is gone, did he.... no, there was no way. Just then she thought she heard a sound from outside. Footsteps? He smiled and rolled his eyes. Of course her mind would go to food right away. She grabbed one of the jars and produced two spoons, saying that the venison would be tender enough for it. She was right. It was amazing, but he still wasn't convinced that it was worth waiting a fortnight for. By the time she was done, two jars were emptied. These were supposed to last them a while, but he wasn't surprised that she was so ravenous at the moment.

He gathered up the empty jars and she got up to go get dressed.

Hircine himself doesn't seem to give a shit about continuity, he just likes to keep the hunt going I guess.

Who is Nise?

Having just gotten level 25 and really wanting to raise speed a lot, I'm constantly on the hunt for monsters to raise the "short blade", and "unarmored" skills (hand-to-hand being an option as well, best on the weaker monsters). I only got the shield because I want to agility and the "block" skill raises agility. Needing a 3x on strength, I'm using "long blade" to destroy the really big enemies that are very difficult to get because they're often too high up. Because missing doesn't count toward skill development (but counts toward weapon condition going down), and hitting counts, I need to defeat monsters using as many hits as possible. However, hits don't count toward skill mastery at all if the condition of the weapon is below 60 so I do repairs on these if the condition is below about 75, sometimes as high as 90 if I have a large number of monsters in short notice to deal with.

The exact route I use varies a bit but this is generally the area I go around, to hunt for monsters. I'm especially attracted to the cliff racers because they have high HP and are otherwise fairly weak. I tend to avoid the large, hovering monsters because they're very difficult to get but I get them whenever I can. Because those large monsters have a lot of HP and do a lot of damage, I use the long blade in nearly top condition to destroy them with, if I can hit them that is.

Along the way, I tend to check flowers, mushrooms, and other such things as they, at the start of the game, were my primary source of gold as the monsters hardly gave anything and they were very few and far between. However, they're very slow to respawn but I may miss a few here and there, I've forgotten a whole section, or they just respawned. I don't know what the conditions are for the plants to respawn though. Regardless, by repeatedly getting a good bit of distance then returning, it appears that the monsters respawn so by going around in circles.

Apparently I'm missing an item, I think. Three times I had random CTDs opening merchant menus that would have sold Jewelry, which tones it down.

I didn't even use Pocket Empire Builder yet, just installed. But how is that related to crashes when opening the trade menu with merchants? I'm modding Oblivion, it's actually my first time modding any game other than minor patches for stuff and it's been working out pretty well so far but... I'm having trouble finding a few mod types, I don't know if they're even around at all.

As far as High Kings go, he wouldn't be my first choice, but he would invade Alinor. Supreme Magcka or LAME probably fit the bill. You can use both at the same time too, if you like. There's also Balanced Magic, which is what I use, but it doesn't add as many interesting spells.

If you just want kinda OP spells, try Mida's Magic. Never used it, but people recommend it all the time so it's hopefully fine.

There is an Immersive Weapons for Oblivion, but I've never used it. WAC's new armours and weapons are amazing, but the actual mod can be kind of buggy and it does a lot more than just adding new items. For just the weapons though, you can look up the Real Swords series. Armamentarium adds a bunch of recoloured vanilla stuff.

Not true. The Great War was fought to a standstill, which led to the treaty being signed with neither side having an advantage. Elves and their long lifespans cannot recuperate and rebuild like the races of men can.

So the Ashlanders claim that after the battle of Red Mountain, Dagoth straight up killed Kagrenac and then Nerevar summoned Azura who showed him how to unbind the Dwemer from the heart, severing their immortality and killing their race. Dagoth told Nerevar to destory the heart and the tools, but Nerevar went outside to talk to his advisors and left Dagoth to guard the tools. The tribunal couldn't persaude him to use the tools on the heart and so when he asked for their assistance to summon Azura again they used the summoning as a pretext to poison Nerevar. Then they went into the hear chamber and fought off Dagoth Ur.

But Vivec claims that when Nerevar and Dagoth entered the heart chamber Kagrenac used the tools on the heart of desperation, causing the dwemer race to disappear. Nerevar goes outside to ask the tribunal what to do with the tools. They convince him to preserve the tools in case they need them in the future and he makes them swear an oath that they will never use the tools to claim the power of the heart for themselves. They all then go back to the heart chamber where Dagoth refuses to give them up.

Did I get that all right? And is there an accepted, canon version of what actually happened?

I'm not sure what to do about the merchant crashes yeah, I had that issue last time I installed because of iNeed conflicting with a town mod (think it was JK's towns at the time which is why I swapped to ETaC), I had to disable iNeed, load the merchant's inventory, save, enable, rebuild my bashed patch and then I was golden.
Try and narrow down what mod is messing with merchant inventories and try that + rebuild bashed patch
And while you are on the nexus, grab "bug fixes" as well

As for Requiem or Ordinator, I don't use either, but Ordinator seems better to me. The perks are creative and I'm pretty sure it's more compatible.

Tullius says after the Siege of Windhelm that the Empire and its provinces can finally loom outwards at the real threat, and the Dominion knew that the Empire would recover from the Great War much faster than they would which is why they prodded Ulfric into instigating the Stormcloak rebellion

it's not like it's an elaborated document so we can't say for sure if there were demilitarization clauses, all we know is that the Tribunal traded the Numidium for what was essentially sovereignty within the Empire

Basic stuff like where they came from, what their general attitude is like, how their past life shaped them (like if they have a scar, try to think where it came from).
