Devotion still plays a pretty big role in tanking RG yeah. And the level cap is much higher than before too which means a shitton more stat points, so many people can actually dish out respectable amount of damage while tanking because you have a lot more skills to play with. Overbrand for example, does pretty neat damage.
Scholar/Sorcerer is still useful as SP battery and endower, but now they have a bunch of insignia and Psychic Wave which can change element so they can do a lot more.
Sniper/Ranger still popular because generic ranged damage dealer.
Priest/Arch Bishop obviously still popular.

Not in renewal. Instant cast is end-end-game tier. Your maximum raw stat is 130, and you need like 180 in both INT and DEX to instant cast. That means stacking 100 points instead of 60 points like pre-renewal.
You'd have to prepare a shitton to cross the instant cast boundary including food, buffs and myriads other gear bonus.

That was only in CDNF and I'm pretty sure it's only there because CDNF's avatar system sucks dick (avas are untradeable and unlike other versions you can't even trade packages off of other players). In KDNF the subclass avatars were a limited promotion too but since avatars are actually tradeable in KDNF you can still buy them off of other players if anyone has them.

I dunno about iro, but on nova cart cannon is fixed into ground. You need +15 holy crimson mace to oneshot incubus.
And with +15 holy crimson mace knuckle boost is much better dps and arm cannon outdamage cart cannon like 2-3 times.

RO's refining system is the pits. An RNG casino from hell where you could either cash the fuck out with a lucky upgrade streak or you could turn destitute with an unlucky streak of breaks.

To maximize axe boom damage you need a +9 sea captain hat for a total of 60% boost to axe boomerang, a +15 crimson 2h axe with 2 step cards for 60% more damage to axe boom and str+dex supplement which is pretty cheap. Not to mention the usual shit like EA temporal boots/+9 HBP/robo eye/whatever the fuck. You'd probably be hitting upwards of 200-250k axe booms per sec neutral which is just 200-250k dps which isn't very impressive considering other classes can spam the fuck out of their skills with bragi and be doing 500k+ dps

The cost of axe mech minmaxing totals to about 700-800m though.

A mado mech with about 50m-100m in funding (arm cannon set+overrefined pile bunker) can do about the same dps if not more with bragi and sacra which is almost always going to be in your party. I mean if you don't have a priest/bard you're not going to get very far in terms of dps.

Renewal is the themepark version of RO. Instead of exploring and playing in the game's world, you now go up to a counter and do instances where you kill 100 of the same monster to get exp. They made grinding monsters out of the instance pointless by adding tons of exp penalties. Additionally, they added third job classes which are hilariously badly designed and have absolutely no synergy with your previous classes.

Basically, renewal is the version of the game ruined by a completely new dev team while pre-re RO is the original experience of the game that everyone loved. They're so good you can practically use them until you're near max level and they remain some of the best gear in the game until then with almost no effort in acquiring them. Eden gear and instances invalidated over half of the game. Renewal is designed so that you skip non-renewal content as fast a possible and this problem is only compounded by pserver rates like on NovaRO. The real kicker is that the 3rd job classes are the most unfun, unspecialized piece of shit. Everyone spams AoE and the additional stat points makes all builds nearly identical. MvPs are just slightly harder mobs and there's no real reason to party up outside of gramps instances. It's fucking stupid and just plain unfun.
