need NMZ advice. I have quest cape, i'm dhing, i want quick points but i don't want to fuck around with like putting on ice gloves or shit like that. so i have all monsters enabled except for elvarg, slagilith, dagannoth mother, tanglefoot, glod, chronozon, giant roc, DT bosses, and kamil. should i add or subtract anyone from the exclude list?

I heard the jmods mentioned some kind of upcoming contest about a new quest based on the players' ideas so here is my suggestion:

I have some ideas for an epic quest related to the forgotten god Zaros, his secret followers and the ancient castles/cities (Annakarl etc.)

In my opinion it would be lovely to get some game content which is not based on Reddit's retarded ideas.

So does someone want to join me creating ideas for a new mysterious quest? It needs of course some good rewards like unique monsters to fight and areas to explore.

If some of you get interested in this, I could of course set up a discord for the discussion.

It already has 4 totally viable methods to 99, with different tiers of xp/h, gp/h and attention required.

Firecape isnt the same as a firemaking skill cape.
The reason this game even exists is because content idealized and implemented by jagex ran a perfectly acceptable game into the shitshow now known as rs3, and now reddit is giving all the power to jagex to do the same shit again.
Motherlode is ezscape but shit exp, and as it seems the new method will be pretty respectable exp for a minigame that will probably be easier than blast mining.
Unfortunately, private servers dont offer what a regular company can offer, even if that company is on the top 5 of the shittiest ones around.

RS2 began to lose focus on what made the game great, the HD update was awesome but prior to that was no wild and no free trade which fucked everything up. Honestly that was the prime reason they lost their players. Then when they were starting to recoup their losses EoC and RS3 as it is now happened and ran everyone who played since the beginning, including me, away.

OSRS is a saving grace and is essentially a reset button. A 'what if' story of sorts where we play the game as if that shit never happened. Do you think they wouldn't put out content like this if the game progressed at that time?

What do you want that won't make the game into a "shitshow" Maybe we just never touch mining again because we don't want it to be devalued, or make a shit ton of content that's lower xp which will mean no one will do it.

The team is small and they do what they can, and usually it's creating larger scale content. Creating a quest isn't as easy as you probably think it is. They also have to think of the fact that people, for even more autistic reasons, don't want to break 250(1) qps. All their planning and work on a quest would go to shit with people voting no, which means lost development time. Now that Wolf broke that we're going to be seeing more quests. Client is here, then the one with Fossil Island, then the Fremmy one and the Troll one.

And now you also want rewards? Well if it's a shit reward people will complain. If it's a good reward people will whine that it's undervaluing X or makes Y worthless.

People like you need to understand that as a game grows other things get phased out. New content releases that makes some older content not as good. Runescape will /never/ grow if people keep bitching about little things like this.

Anyways, you get the point. I do understand that developing a quest isnt an extremely easy task, but id say they did a pretty good job with MM2, even if it took ages to make.
Rewards-wise, it doesnt have to be extremely powerfull shit. MM2 is a hard quest, its long, and it has rewards that fit. Easier quests could maybe have some cosmetic rewards, maybe making another part of the game better (Like the big cats they added to get spices, they could be locked behind a easy or medium difficulty quest).
Id rather they took their time to make quality content instead of adding a bunch of random shit they pulled out of their asses. They're still working in the Inferno (Which is not that bad of an update, it makes the tzharr zone more alive) and are already pooling another bullshit island for no reason.
Theres a right way to go about updating a mmo, and a wrong one, and most mmos have seen a decrease in playerbase. IMO, adding random overpowered shit is what made rs3 garbage, and id rather see osrs go a different direction.

You seem to forget that the OSRS team, everyone included is... what, 14 people? Not all of which are actual devs either. It was started as a small project because of that poll and has been growing slowly overtime as it got bigger.

A new skill isn't something that is outlandish and impossible, but it's not as easy as you keep making it seem. You need to figure out the skill itself first, why it exists and why it shouldn't just be an expansion for another skill, create shit tons of assets for it, find how to train it throughout the world, think of tons of rewards, balance them, test all the prior things, hope the community accepts it and then pray it passes a poll. There is a crap load more that I'm probably not including but it's a massive task none the less.
Would you rather 6 or so months of no content to get a skill that you may not like/is useless or raids, quests and new monsters and items?

You need to weigh out if developing a new skill is worth the dev time vs doing any other mix of things in the same amount of time.

I don't think anyone in this thread is necessarily against the idea of a new skill. It's just that sailing would be a meta goldsink and there are better things for the Old School team to spend their time doing—such as writing new high-level content, designing better maps, and punching people in the taint when they vote for higher xp rates.

Personally, I'm fine either way; sailing would add some value to the 110k redwood logs I've been stockpiling while I wait for Jagex to get that particular shit together.

A lot of skills were absolute duds on release/at the start of the game. If hunter was released today in its initial state with like half of the content in the skill literally nonfunctional due to programmer retardation, people would flip the fuck out. The playerbase is accustomed to certain skills being minimally integrated, lazy piles of garbage because that's the way it's always been for some people.

Furthermore, hunter was developed by old Jagex at full strength. Using the existence of lots of existing skills as justification for the ability to add good new ones is pretty shaky.

Half was slight hyperbole, but I was referring to all the Hunter clothing not actually providing bonuses the way it's supposed to. A good chunk of the skill involves getting the materials for and making these outfits (all pitfall trapping). Now I'm thinking about it, baiting and smoking traps also doesn't work as intended. At the skill's release, without black chins or monkeys, a decent proportion of the skill just didn't work in spite of wearing the right clothing / taking care of your traps having been hyped in pre-release info.
