I really don't know why anyone would translate a VN for free at this point. The western market is big enough that you can probably find an in at one of the three major publishers. I can understand wanting to work at your own pace and maintain control over the project, but the companies are usually willing to work with you and you can always just take it to them later; and if you don't meet their translation standards then what are you doing translating ungodly amounts of text in the first place!
