>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy, Gone Home, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. Absorbed the /lite/ general some time ago.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

And since I see "Valkyria Chronicles" in the OP, I'd like to ask how that game is. I briefly tried it, and was disappointed by how linear it was, but I heard that it's apparently a lot better than I thought, so could someone be nice enough to give me a rundown of it?

i don't know why styg would add shotguns when burst firing rifles/smgs did their job in the game as AoE cone damage dealers

how are you guys expecting shotguns to work?
>>
>>174436450
Does Valkyria Chronicles even count as indie by the generals definition? I mean, it was developed and published by a SEGA and I'd hardly call it obscure.
>>
>>174436773
>i don't know why styg would add shotguns when burst firing rifles/smgs did their job in the game as AoE cone damage dealers
I already brought this up many times, both here and on the offical forum.

>I'm also a little worried shotguns will end up too similar to assault rifles. In both cases the defining feature is the ability to shoot a lot of projectiles at once, hitting multiple targets or dealing a lot of damage up close.

Styg's answer was
>This should not be the case. For one, the shotgun's effectiveness against single target drops rapidly with distance (precision drops quickly and the cone of attack is big), which is not so much the case with assault rifles.

So I'm asuming they will be like ARs but without their decent medium range effectiveness with semi-auto, but even more deadly up close. Most likely a total opposite of sniper rifles with ARs being a mix of both.

So /indie/ is kind of like the miscellaneous games general?

To be honest, I've always felt a general like that should exist.
>>
>>174436773
Classic vidya shotgun. Melee weapon.
>>
Bastard Bonds or Battle Brothers?
>>
>>174438076
>So /indie/ is kind of like the miscellaneous games general?
Yes since /jrpg/, /cyb/, /hmg/, and /wrpg/ fell off /vg/ months to years ago
>>
>>174438406
Even a single tile of range beyond melee range is a big deal.

It's such a big deal that Force Emission had to be nerfed, it used to give one extra tile of range to unarmed attacks.
>>
>>174438560
Battle Brothers is a much better game in pretty much every single way imaginable.
>>
>>174436773
hopefully AP costs and shotgun stats are balanced in a way that makes it much more easier and efficient to combo with psi attacks, melee weapons, and traps than it is with ARs
>>
>>174438968
What's wrong with ARs AP cost? You can get as lows as 9 AP/shot with 7.62 Hornet with Rapid Reloader, that's only 27 AP per burst.

Yuo can easily get 2 bursts in one turn with Commando and still have 23 AP to spare for something else, 43 with adrenaline/Blitz, 63 with both.

Now this is what I call a proper remaster. Even if it's seventeen times (!) bigger than the original CD version.
>>
>>174439704
Pretty much. It's like a nursing home for dying generals. It allows the few remaining people to continue discussing their games until there's no one left. And it's also limbo for games that are in a temporary state of inactivity, where it's not yet certain whether their general will resurrect once more or they'll just die.

Something in the author's notes for The Uncle That Works For Nintendo struck out at me, that if video game heroes were truly intelligent, they would hate us for the hell we put them through. When I was young I occasionally got similar vibes, brief instances where I believed that video game characters MIGHT be real and they hated me for the torture I give them.
>>

I thought /jrpgg/ died because it was such a festering hive of shitposting that there were periods where the mods did not allow it to exist.

/egg/ - Engineering Games General is for this purpose too
We already used to be Space Voxel Games General, but that died since none of those games update very often, and THAT used to Corneroids General.

We usually use skeletons in space suits as our mascot. It seems fitting.
>>
Okay, how do I git gud at battle brothers? I feel like I'm just doing something wrong here in the early game. Do I just recruit a whole bunch of cheap shitters in the beginning to get more bodies, or do I only hire a few more decent guys? Also, what way should I go on the map to get more bandit thugs and less raiders/undead/orcs?

Spears? In Styg? What the hell?
>>
Is the shipwreck in The Witness supposed to be a reference to the wreck of Hesperus?
>>
>>174452716
Spears will have the same range as all other melee weapons.

Quoting Styg:
>The weapons have the same reach as other melee weapons. We experimented a bit with increasing the range for spears but that did not work out satisfactory.

The on-hit effect (25% chance to block x mechanical damage) is supposed to represent the advantage spears have instead.

I would prefer if spears had at least one more tile of range too but it is how it is.

Going off of dunkey's and yahtzee's review the game seems like a perfectly fine banjo-like collectathon albeit with some dumb design decisions and some poor signposting. Though if anyone was expecting it to be exactly as good as kazooie they were delusional.

Being developed by a bunch of ex-Rare devs with about the same development time and funding as the originals, all on a preexisting engine which cuts out a third of the work for them I expected it to be better than the originals.
At least thats what I expected at the time before more and more kickstarter projects massively disappointed.
>>
>>174455681
>I expected it to be better than the originals.
then I'm sorry to say this but you were stupid for thinking so. Even outside of kickstarters being a crapshot a (relatively) independent game will most likely not achieve the same kind of game that a first party major title will.

I think I would call that more "not having incredibly high expectations" instead of "cynicism".

Its not such a high expectation. The original games werent that great and I could probably design a better sequel myself to be quite honest.
The problem of lack of publisher oversight in indie games compared to AAA is not as relevant to Rare's development of Banjo Kazooie. Yooka Laylee isnt even an indie game, Team 17 published them and extensively assisted Playtonic in development and QA.
I didnt expect the same level of polish but Yooka-Laylee is so below average compared to Banjo that something must have went really wrong

Don't get me wrong, more weapon types is cool and all, but I just don't get what's so great about shotguns that there are people for whom no shotguns is a deal-breaker or at least a massive letdown. Yeah, okay, but Underrail already has sniper and assault rifles as great, very reliable weapons. SMGs are also really good. Energy a chemical pistols cover the gimmick niche. And pistols... they exist. Yet until shotguns were announced there always were people who kept asking for it. Why not combat drones? Or something ridiculously gimmick like a gun that scrambles? Or LAWs? God knows I could use one against Dreadnaughts.

Basically, if the appeal is that they are good and reliable, anything should be just as good as long as they fulfill these two criteria, no?

Theyre just intrinsically fun, whether its in real life, film, or games. In most action games shotguns are the most satisfying weapon 9 times out of 10. Its hard to fuck up.

I think it mostly comes from FPS games

As >>174472548 said, shotguns are usually very good, and they also often fill a niche for "up close and personal" high mobility gameplay
For example, in DooM 2 double barreled shotgun deals twice more damage than a rocket launcher
>>
>>174474361
How bad is Hard West? I love westerns, is the setting and aesthetic enough for me to power through RNG and cruddy gameplay?

I remember the shotgun in Painkiller being a very versatile weapon with plenty of ammo, decent damage, amazing range.

And then the expansion arrived and nerfed it massively until it could barely graze a demon's skin at point blank.

I want it to stop Krampus from appearing and make devil deals always have a deal in them but apparently you can't really do that with the way modding works so I'm looking into if I can have it kill Krampus when you enter his room and spawn two deals. Maybe turn them into a statue. It is his right wing clipped so it isn't there in the statue. I have a horn sprite that would need reworking as an alternative to the wing also.
>>
>>174498252
I'd be fine if his head could do diagonals, but the random spins are pretty bullshit. There are so many needless changes to items it's baffling. They even fucked with Abel and he was already pretty shit to begin with.

That effect is perfect for a trinket level effect just like rib of greed. It was the first idea I had for a mod after the announcement of modding support. I'm not sure if I should try and do it this hacky way or wait and see if they add in the ability to edit room pools with an item.

> And pistols... they exist
Are you shitting on pistols? They are great secondary weapons and decent enough on their own.

+7 initative from gunslinger is great. It's easy to reach 40+ initative on pistol builds with Paranoia which virtually guarantees you wil always act first. As a secondary wepaon it's still a great way to boost your initative to 30 if you can.

You can even abuse exiting the zone since the -10 penalty leaves you with 30, which is still enough to act first before everyone else. I easily cleared Fort Apogee on pistol build that way.

No STR/skill requirement and close range/move penalties means they will always work and hit reliably regardless of debuffs. Snipers and AR (wspecially metal armor AR) builds can get fucked hard by multiple stacks of crippling strike or intimtidation from mutants/Carnifex.

Neo Luger with laser sight is by far the best way to apply Kneecap Shot since it has +15% precision bonus and lack of penalties regardless of situation I mentioned before.

Execute crits are devastating and pistols can stack tons of both critcal damage and chance.
>>

>>
>>174511398

If you want to shit on your gun, you should avoid vegetables, they make your shit hard, so it won't stick to your gun.
Also avoid milk, it makes your shit too liquid.

To shit on your gun, you need to shit the exact sticky poo that will stick to your gun.
>>
>>174512510
Well it's still going to be unhygenic. You might get infected while sligshotting the slide if you have a cut on your hands for some reason.

Slingshotting the slide will also be a lot more difficult if it's covered in slippery shit. The slide cuts are going to be ineffective if they are full of shit.

It might also eventually find its way into the slide rails and jam the slide.

If the grip is covered in shit it's going to hurt ergonomics quite a lot.

Stick to shitting on bullets only.

The Angels have different animations and a longer start-up to clearly show which they'll do, making them actually easier to prepare for, and they don't even rotate!

>>174539840
Hey, I'm serious. When I discovered that you could change attacks by right clicking on it, my mind was blown.
>>
>>174539007
>It's possible?
Definitely.

Don't get me wrong I like Fallout 1/2 just as much as the next guy but the combat system is extremaly simplistic and a ton of things is not even viable. All gun builds play pretty much the same, the only difference is whether you use bursts or not and whether yoy took Fast Shot or not. Both unarmed and melee play pretty much the same and don't give you many options. Grenades are not viable at all and generally a waste of time. Low luck runs are one of the only unique things Fallout combat has. Aimed shots get old after a while once the eye spam becomes viable.

It's rough around the edges and simple. Which is not necessarily bad, but it is ho it is.

>How's the melee/unarmed combat in Underrail? Is it satisfying?
Everything is really, there is not a single playstyle in Underrail that is not viable or not satisfying.

With melee, you can go for:
>DEX based sneaky knife user that cuts throats from stealth and shanks people up with a lot of attack per turn after that or throws a flashbang to blind enemies and re-stealth

>STR based mobile sledgehammer user in light armor who easily closes in on enemies and fucks them up with a few powerful hits

>STR based sledgehammer in metal armor with little mobility but tons of survivability
The last one is kinda harder to paly though.

With unarmed you can go for:
>DEX based using light gloves and getting as many attack per turn as possible

>STR based using heavy metal gloves and getting tons of bonus damage

>psi monks, generally like DEX based unarmed but also using psi abilites to augment their unarmed damage and give themselves more options
>>
>>174539007
>I have fond memories of playing Fallout

Then say no more senpai, it's 50% off on GOG anyway: https://www.gog.com/game/underrail Beware though, it's mostly one (otherwise very competent) dude's project for CRPG veterans who's looking for challenge and don't need hand-holding.

>>
>>174542285
I guess so. Last time I played, I got super rich way too quickly and ended up getting bored once I hit the workshop.

Protip : mix the normal slime (the pink one) with whatever uranium/ore slime you captured to make them easier to feed.
>>
>>174542435
do you mean the rock ones? I have some of those

I haven't gone to any of the extra areas yet, so I only have the normal one, the cat, the rock, and the night time one
>>
>>174542569
You have rock slime, and rare rock slimes. They give different stuffs.

Or you can mix them with tabbies (the cats slime) once you have a chicken production running. They give double the splurt.
>>
Oh I dont know if anyone plays Starsector here, but the new update just hit.
>>
>>174542723
yea i know how the big ones (i don't remember their names) work

is it better to have a ton of normal ones or less of the bigger ones, because the big ones take up a lot of space and can jump out even with higher walls
>>
>>174542845
I prefer bigger ones, because they're easier to feed. Even if you mix them with the pink slime who have a small-value splurt, it refunds by them being easier to feed and keep alive.

Through I don't know if they patched it or not, but it was really easy to abuse back then. You would pick an uranium slime, mix it with a pink slime, and then feed them whatever you had and gather all the uranium, since pink slime eats everything.
>>
>>174542114

you feed it until it explodes
plus you can throw them into the incenerator or off a ledge

you kill the tar things too
>>
>>174543238
You need to get several of them
The starting area branches out into two unlockable areas, and if the incomprehensible MC Esher environments don't make you kill yourself those two areas converge into a third area, and once inside you can get the only slimes in the game that are a challenge to take care of(because they completely bypass the OP containment, great game design)
And then instead of taking care of those slimes you can give up and wait for the next update because that's all there is to do in the game and building up more money beyond that is meaningless

There's not enough gold to make an alchemy engine, so I can't make a tent or anything to recover it. Permanent winter means all the ponds are frozen over.

Try to avoid eating the beefaloos. It spawns Krampus, and it means less manure.

Okay, nevermind, you can't use farms.
I'd say to use mushrooms. They allow you to easily manipulate your sanity.

Otherwise, try to gather grass, you can make a bed roll with it. If I remember right, it gives you half of your sanity and a lot of health.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't headshots actually BAD in Battle Brothers? You get no multiplier for breaking through armor, which makes up the vast majority of an enemy's EHP, and the head gets more armor than the body. On top of that, the head is harder to hit in general. Only against (rare) enemies with no head armor is hitting the head actually beneficial, in most cases it just means your attack gets absorbed by an entirely different, more efficient HP pool.

I'm enjoying Battle Bros a lot, but have never played Bastard Bonds, what's wrong with it?

>>174443810
>Also, what way should I go on the map to get more bandit thugs and less raiders/undead/orcs?

I think bandits and brigands tend to hang out near roads, in order to attack caravans.

You also don't need to charge right into battle. If your guys are fast, you can order them to wait, and the melee enemies will head towards you, allowing the guys who waited to now go forward and attack.

Pay attention to weapon types. Skellys are resistant to daggers, spears, and bows, so if you're doing a mission where you expect them, give you guys some other weapons (make sure to keep spare weapons on hand.)

In early game, just hire the cheap shitters. A bunch of regular joes can be better than a handful of pros, because surrounding an enemy both has a chance to weaken his morale (making him easier to fight) as well as increase the accuracy of your melee attacks against him.)

Notch doesn't even seem to like making video games. After he made his big bucks he kinda faffed around didn't make anything with heart in it.

With that in mind, him selling out (which is fine) is extra unsurprising.

Minecraft's main accomplishment lies within it's accessibility and wide audience

I guess it's a merit on it's own, but without it's social component the game doesn't have a leg to stand on
I don't hate the game, it's hard to ignore it's influence on the industry either, but I'm not surprised with people shitting on it
>>
>>174600817
Probably not, unless you are completely against replaying games. If you already know that you will not want to replay it regardless of how much the expansion shakes things up, I guess it would be better to wait, but otherwise go for it. The game is complete and very satisfying already.

As far as I can tell most people who wanted to play sledge loved it. I tried it once just to see what it's like, but for me it made combat too straightforward. But it was a good reason to finally try out the high CON/STR feats for once, and I can definitely see the appeal.

It looks like you only need that email activation code in the web browser. The gog client works without it.
>>
>>174602368
You will get patches/updates faster on Steam. On GoG you usually need to wait a few days.
>>
>>174602493
>Steam is a better platform.

On one hand I hate clients with a passion.
And Steam locks me into a single currency unless I use a VPN. GOG still does regional pricing, and I can't use the currency of my country there either, but at least I get to pick the better exchange rate.

But then waiting for patches on GOG is an absolute insufferable pain in the ass.

So the best option is to own the game on both platforms, and switch to the Steam one whenever GOG feel like annoying the shit out of their customers and sit on patches for days because it's weekend or it's national holiday in potatoland, or they just want to go on a vacation.

>but have never played Bastard Bonds, what's wrong with it?

It's not that there's something "wrong" with it, it's just a simple fact that it's worse than Battle Brothers in every way.

It was the guy's first RPG. All he ever made before were gay porn point and click adventures, or so I've heard. So he lacked the experience, and didn't take his time with it like BB, or other small RPG projects.

It's shallow. It's repetitive. It has some good ideas, but doesn't do much with them. It's not a bad game to dick around with for a few hours, and what's there works well enough, but that's all this game is, unless you are in for the homoerotic shit. It has potential though, and if he decides to stick with the genre, his next attempt might actually turn out good.

This game is finally coming together. I think I really like parser conversations, it makes the game very similar to adventure games. You go around kind of aimlessly until you've finally explored enough and talked with enough people to get an idea what needs to be done and how to proceed.

For example I now know that I'll have to backtrack to the other side of the world to find a guy in the shitty small village and ask him about a magic rope.
I have to buy a shovel, and look around the coastal area in one of the big dungeons to find the buried pirate treasure that has the plans to repair an ancient machine hidden somewhere I haven't found yet.
I'm going to need a ship to sail to the Watchers of the world, and for that I'll have to find a guy in some other backwater village that can teach me, talk to the ex-sailors in the secret hidden town inside one of the dungeons, and repair the shipwreck I saw at the deepest level of yet another dungeon.
Then there is another hidden village you can only find if you know its exact location, and I think I know where to look.

And a lot of other shit I'm not yet completely sure about. With no map and no journal this is actually pretty fun. Really cool how you connect a dozen or so small hints gathered around the world into something that finally makes sense. Wish I started taking notes sooner though, finding some of the NPCs again that mentioned keywords I now know I need is gong to be a bitch.

>>
>>174616071
I love it when indie(and other) devs are so open and thankfull for their players. Always warms my heart when they give a shit and respond to feedback.
I remember playing through Stories of Bethem and making a screenshot everytime I discovered a falsely placed sprite like walkthrough trees and stuff like that. Nothing big but clearly something no one tested. The dev answered on every single screenshot, thanked me for playing and released a patch to fix all those and other things within a week.
>>
>>174616283
Yep. It was a post-release addition, and one of the best if you ask me.

Difficulty used to effect only your HP and the cooldown of healing items, but since that patch it influences AI too. Easy keeps the AI as it was at release, Normal is slightly better, and on Hard it's actually pretty good.
>>
>>174615570
Hard in Underrail means that your health will be calculated just like the NPCs. Normal adds 50%, Easy adds 100%.

So if you had 90 HP on Normal, you would have only 60 on Hard and 120 on Easy.

Health Hypos heal for 50% less and their base cooldown is twice as long. On Normal the base health hypos heals 80 HP and has a 6 turn cooldown, on Hard it's only 40 Hp and 12 turns, on easy it's 160 HP and 2 turns.

Different difficulty levels sldo have different AI. On easy it's braindead. on normal it will rarely do anything clever, on hard it's common for enemies to use game mechanics to their advantage, for example running behind a corner at the end of their turn to break the line of sight and make it impossible to hit them without moving and often losing bonus precision.
>>
>>174616475
>>174616563
It's like it's one of these games where, if you start playing on Easy, you have a really hard time adjusting to a different difficulty level.
>>
>>174616714
I guess. Maybe. Making the jump from original normal to improved hard was more satisfying than difficult, but I only played glass-cannons at that time, so the change wasn't anywhere near as drastic as if I were used to something more dependent on HP and healing.

Anyone have advice on stocking up on hay in Stardew Valley? I lost about 99% of potential hay during Spring and Summer because you don't collect any unless you have a Silo built(seems like pretty bad game design but I'll let it slide) and I had my entire farm cleared out by then. Here I am in Fall and I can already tell I wont have enough food to keep my chickens happy through Winter. I dropped 5k on grass patches, laid them all out and after three days the shit has hardly grown at all. I feel like I'm missing something because at this rate it seems literally impossible to make more hay than even a small amount of animals will eat through.

>Arcane Kids’ current magnum opus is Perfect Stride. Esposito described the project as an online skatepark, where players can shred and hang out. Pulling inspiration from early mods and chat rooms, the game’s social setting aims to emulate the way real skateparks let punk kids teach each other new tricks. Ideally, Perfect Stride will be designed in a way that can be broken. Players can stretch out and find exploits within the game, and share them like magazine cheat codes at recess.

>How those functions will be implemented, on top of the labors of online play, have made Perfect Stride a long-ongoing endeavour.

>Elex can't possibly be any worse than Risen 2 or Gothic 3
It can. Gothic 3 can be kinda enjoyable with community patches/content and if you stay away from melee and use bows/magic instead.

Similarly Risen 2 can be kinda enjoyable if you ignore melee and go with guns, but even then you need to have high tolerance for shit games.

So far Elex looks like Risen 2 in a bland sci-fi setting. I will probably play it anyways because I can't let go but my expectations are as low as it gets.

>Hard in Underrail means that your health will be calculated just like the NPCs. Normal adds 50%, Easy adds 100%.
>So if you had 90 HP on Normal, you would have only 60 on Hard and 120 on Easy.

No, that's not right. Easy gives double HP compared to Normal, not Hard, so that would be 180 on Easy.

This is the formula on Hard:
30 + Constitution * 4 + Level * (4 + (Constitution * 1.2))

It gets a 1.5 multiplier on Normal, a 3 multiplier on Easy, and at the end floats are truncated.

So a level 1 character with 7 constitution will get 105 HP on Normal and 211 on Easy. And a level 1 character with 6 constitution on normal will have 97 HP and 73 after Psi Empathy.

With Juggernaut, pig leather boots, sturdy metal armor and a burrower burger you could achieve almost 3000 HP.

18 CON (16 base +2 from boots/burger) is 2226 HP at level 25. With Juggernaut that's 2782. Add at least 120 HP from a 120 quality sturdy vest and it's 2902.

You could go over 3000 with junkyard surprise or supersoldier drug.

It was a little tedious but worth it.

>>

>>
>>174652797
A group of friends having a trip and getting fucked up in various sorts.
Has multiple endings and horrifying visualisation of suffering.
>>
>>174653139
Sounds like Corpse Party. A bit too graphic, then.
The horror in Ib isn't that graphic, it's mostly unease.

>>174644656
....are you AHEAD of me!?

jeez, I can't keep up.
>>
>>174651512
I applaud your patience, nicely done. What did you use for the final boss fight? How many hours did it take you?

But I think on Easy it would be perfectly doable to kill everything without combat skills. If you added a crafted shield to the mix it would turn into even more of a joke. And then we still have morphine and aegis.

Man. It would be more challenging to die than to survive. But it would be tedious as hell.
>>
>>174653480
The graphic is only in one scene on a victim friend you can rescure depending on the chouices you make.
There are other disturbing images but not violent in itself, more from the context.
The one thing I speak of is one of your friends getting "cursed" by the mermaid which makes her inflate and suffer. She says she is cold so if you go get her a fire her skin will dry and she will die of her skin exploding.

I started continuing when you were close to finishing the first game.

But I make sure to talk to EVERYONE and screw around with orbments. I move on fastforward, so I'm also pretty overlevelled from walking everywhere. That limestone boss is still hard without ailment immunities, though.

Honestly I generally dislike walking sims
NITW was more of a an exception for me

Wolf Among Us was pretty good
Jazzpunk was hit and miss
Life is Strange was OK but the ending felt like a cop-out and ruined the thing for me
Murdered was ok but only with cheats, and it gets a bit dull after a while
Beginner's Guide was okay, but it's doesn't have much of a story, it's more like a semi-interactive biographic thing or something

>>
>>174655487
I fucked myself with limestone since I explored it before getting Tita. Huge mistake since that made me go twice through it and made miss Tita XP. She is really good in there with her ranged explosion default attack. Smoke cannon is also mvp but I think you need a gex orb for that to not miss.
>>
>>174656210
....what? Limestone only unlocks in SC after you're done with the main story in Zeiss, LONG after Tita can join the party.

I dunno, maybe.. reunite Slugcat with family?
Also, 2 future campaigns include a 2+ person Multiplayer campaign and a campaign where you lead a pack of Slugcat pups through the early stages of their lives.

And depending on what creatures in the main game were backer rewards, there could be any number of stuff in the other campaigns.
But yeah,
>10 backers get to design a Slugcat
>Which they will get a plushie of and will be a playable breed of Slugcat
They also had an extension on that 2nd one, but only the Plushie aspect.

Out of every game to have these promises in its kickstarter, Rain World is the last one I would assume. Not that Rain World seems necessarily all that `artsy`, but that stuff sounds straight-up arcade-y. It`s like if the hollow knight DLC just gave you a gun and became a cover shooter.

>>174676713
That makes it sound better but it still seems like a major tonal shift from the game itself.
>>
>>174676868
To be honest, Rain World's layouts if cut off would make for great arenas.

Adventure was designed to challenge you once you know your way around the game.

Don't Starve is the opposite of Startopia, design-wise. In Startopia, the campaign teaches you how to play and prepares you for sandbox. In Don't Starve, it's the opposite.

Since I had 16 AGI, Interloper and obscene amounts of stealth, blowing up the tanks with TNT was easy and quick.

For Tchort[/spoiler I simply put as many MK V HE mines around theeye as possible with quick tinkering, then blew them up with a MK V HE grenade. I think I had to repeat this about twice or thrice, sometimes hiding in the safe room.

I think it took les than an hour. MK V mines hit hard.

>2 AP attacks
Guess how I know you are full of shit.

Other than that, psi monks are squishy as fuck. If you want to bring your AP cost as low as possible, have Blitz and Expose weakness, you will need to have 10 DEX, 10 AGI, 5 INT and spend all level ups into DEX.

That leaves you with 3 STR, 3 PER, 3 CON, 3 WIL and only three points to put into them.

Assuming you put it in CON, you health will be still pretty low with psi empathy and light armor, especially for a melee build.

3 WIL means your saves are shit and your damage will be lower because of low psychokinesis skill. You oculd go for 6 WIL and 3 CON instead but then your health will be laughable.

3 PER means you will struggle with stealthed enemies. 3 STR means that if you ever get hit by crippling strike you can forget about moving, but that doesn't really matter since you are likely to be dead anyways. Also low carry weight but that's not an issue for everyone.

Problem with builds like this is that when they fuck up, they die. Everything works if you reload on a fuck up.

Well shit, you're right. I've been getting so many attacks per turn I never actually noticed that it hits a cap at 4.

Still, I disagree about the durability issue because there's very little reason to ever facetank anything in the first place. Anything you hit gets stunlocked, you can get huge evasion and guaranteed dodge via feats, you can block LoS, you can stun enemies at range, and you can move like 5 times the distance other characters can in the span of a turn. Energy shields also grant EHP, which makes character HP less of a big deal. Yes you die if you fuck up, but that's pretty besides the point, pure Psi also dies if they fuck up but they're broken (probably moreso) regardless.

Nah, that's the whole point. Psi monk is definetly not something I would attempt to ironman the game with ust because of that, which makes him not that overpowered. Strong ,yes, but not OP.

>>174698263
>In all seriousness though, Blitz isn't optimal
It's overrated that's for sure, but it can be worth it depending on the build and how exactly the AP cost of yur weapon is.

It's great for unarmed because 4 AP/attack heavily benefits from bonus 20 AP, that's 5 more attacks.

On the contrary it's not that great fot sniper rifles, but even then it depends.

24 AP spearhead can be shoot 3 times with Blitz+Adrenaline and you will even have enough AP to throw a flashbang, but snipers usually open the fight with Snipe out of stealth o that means no MPs.

Unless you use Sprint and Hit and Run, but at this point it's too much investment. You will also need ambush if yuu want to make the 3rd shot a guranteed crit after Aimed Shot and Snipe, but only if the conditions are met. So it's too much investment for something that will be extremaly situational and only will start working towards end of the game. Meh. Not to mention once adrenaline wears out you are limited to only one shot.

On the other hand it can good in early game with a 35 AP sniper rifle, Blitz would allow you to have 2 shots. So you could start the fight with Snipe, then do Aimed Shot+regular attack on the next. That's a lot better.

>Just get 7 or 8 depending on whether you want Maneuvers
Evasive Maneuvers require 6 but honestly it's kind of a lame feat. More often than not you would be better of just using the MPs to run away or behind a corner and it's useless if you level evasion since it caps and more it's useless to have more evasion beyond a certain point.

Uncanny Dodge on the other hand is great and a good reason to go for 8 AGI. I usually go for 6 because I can't imagine a build that won't benefit from taking Sprint.

Not him, but you shouldn't always think with an ironman mentality. Permadeath is always a specific kind of challenge with specific needs that limit what you can do with your build. It's interesting to attempt, but the entire guiding idea behind it is to take all randomness out of the game and create something fail-proof, or at least close to it.

But you shouldn't judge all builds based on how well they would perform on ironman. Anyone who plays normally accepts that death is part of the deal. Sometimes a series of bad RNG dice rolls will just fuck you over. That doesn't mean it will happen often, or that the build's efficiency relies on savescumming.

At the end of the day, if you remove failure as an option, you get the same result as the guy who wants his first hit to have a 100% chance to hit. To create a build like that takes more skill, and careful preparation, and yes, a sense of strategy too. But the result is the same. You minimize the consequences of RNG, of accidents, you are "safe" all the time unless you, personally make mistakes.

But a level of randomness and taking risks is enjoyable. And failing when you did everything in your power to succeed with what you have can be enjoyable too.

>The best metric would be a diverse array of near-unbeatable combat areas
Probably but we don't have that. So ironman is pretty much the only metric available.
>>
>>174700193
I don't think that's how most people define OP though. When someone asks for an OP build they are asking for something that can get spectacular results.

I'd argue that a build that will stay ahead of the game's power curve, shrug off all challenge, and destroy everything 95% of the time with a 5% that it takes a bullet to the head and dies is more likely to be considered OP than a good ironman build that will get you through everything, but not necessarily fast or easily.

But seriously, do you really think that you can simply just "raise" Negation? The game is too autistic for that.
Each of the 57 Skills are divided into Subskills, of which there are a total of 246.

Your Skill Level (separate from Study Level) is calculated from the lowest of your top three Subskills. So I have 4 in Negation Methods and 2 Negation Spells, but since I don't know anything about Negation Phemes or the Theory of Negation, my overall Negation Skill Level is 0.

All of those approaches work if you do the well enough.

What armor do you have? The best you can get for Old Junkyard is crafter light armor from mutant doggos or siphoners, since they give acid resistance so you can move through the acid pools mostly or completely unharmed and don't get the full damage from the mutant's acid vomit.

In general it's good idea to try to keep them from getting to you. Tranq bolts, nets, flashbangs can do the trick, but nets are especially good. Even if you can't throw for shit, as long as you throw things at your feet you'll get 100% accuracy, so if you have enough MPs try to move next to them, throw net, then move away.

And keep in mind that adrenaline (more action points and better dodge/evade) and morphine (lets you tank a lot of damage, just make sure you can heal before it wears off in case too much damage accumulates) are your friends. Never leave home without a dozen or more.

If you want to sneak, keep in mind that you can hit enter combat, makes it easier to move out of their detection range.

You sure you need more breath for getting through the waterways? I managed to get to a boss with just my normal stuff, albeit it was a bit tight.
Unless you're deeper into it than me, of course. Then I have no real idea.

And specifically, you can't do these sections without a breath up cause there's 0 air pockets within reach.

It`s a fan expansion isn`t it?
>>
>>174724832
Okay, yeah, you're definitely deeper in there than I am. I've only just gotten to the boss arena and subsequently called it quits for now because i'm a little babby and get frustrated easily
that and i've been awake for like 20 hours
>>
>>174725195
I don't blame you.
I've also only got 3 bosses under my belt and haven't seen one in a long-ass time now. Like 3 hours at least.

>How do you get past the acid mutants in the Old Junkyard?
Tons of ways. Would help if you said what build are you playing.

Beyond what >>174723926 said, a properly placed bear trap will keep the mutant away from you and deal some damage. It's best to either make a whole line between you and the mutant, or place one in a tight passage (like a doorway).

It's possible for enemies to spot traps and take an alternate route, but even then, it's likely it will take them an additional turn to reach you.

You can also make whole minefields that will kill at least one mutant, if not more if you plan it out. You don't even need the mutant to step into one of your mines, simply throw a grenade once he's surrounded by them.

Caltrops are good for slowing them down as well. Crawler poison caltrops are especially good but rare.

Also, make use of those explosive barrels. A well thrown grenade when a mutant is standing right next to one will take most of his HP, if not kill him instantly.

Not sure this artstyle fits the kafkaesque themes. It seems to be a nice game though.

what the fuck does that have to do with Level Up!
>>
>>174729318
Are you sure you`re talking about the same game as him? Level Up! is an old newgrounds flash game that was an overworld platformer where you leveled up a bunch of pointless skills and then tried not to lose them all against a recurring boss.
>>
>>174728257
Good luck. Depot A can be a challenge when you are new to the game, but it's a brilliant way to force players to learn about different strategies before it lets you loose.

If I wanna farm dark petals for fuel in don't starve, can't I just put a bee box around some dark petals from maxwell's door/ring thing/etc and the bees should pollinate the flowers?

I've seen a few people mention using bees for making more dark petals but never with a bee box, does it not work if they're not in a box?

I had a lot of trouble with that on a stealth build until I realized where I actually have to go. Its easy once you know where to go and have the key. You can make a mad dash and lock the doors behind you even if youre caught.
