I genuinely enjoyed P4, but I can't say I ever took it all that seriously. It was pretty much Scooby Doo for me from the start. The game itself was just as addicting for me as P5 though. Trying to max out social links within a deadline, viewing all the conversations, fusing personas, etc. are all just addicting factors for me which keep me playing. That said, I like SMT too so I'm not sure it's just the social links which draw me to the series.

I loved P4, and still do, but I think P5 blows the rest of the series out of the water with villains. If mostly because characters like Nyarly are the definition of "evil for the sake of evil" or only show up really at the end. P5 at least has a series of really genuinely awful people to hate as the story goes along.

Adachi works fine as a villain, and the nature of the story means he can't really show up in that role until the end, but it's nice to have clearer villains earlier in the story.

I think the social links are about as good. I also kind of like the side social links better in P5. P4 had a lot of really irrelevant ones which I couldn't care less about, like the nurse, old woman or Saki's brother. The only social link I don't really like in P5 is Ohya.

Ohya seems to be the least favorite SL in P5. What would you anons do to make her better?

I don't think her personality is too terrible but I wish she could show as early as SL3 that she knows you're a Phantom Thief and basically blackmails you into helping her and by the end she stops because you personally change her heart. Really fits more with Devil and makes her more interesting.

I'd also make it so her bonuses are better, that scoop ability is total shit.

It would have been a bit worrying if P5 was worse than P4 giving the massive amount of time they've had to see what works.

None of the dungeons have hard or challenging puzzles, but the factory was especially bad on how it wastes your time. The piston segments were the worst offender. Every time you find a terminal you first have to clear the path, because they decided to have some invisible spawning enemies there, then go back to the terminal. Now you have to watch a cutscene as you activate a timer, run over the pistons and watch another cutscene when the timer ends. Only the ship is worse with the million doors that trigger textboxes when you interact with them.

Alright, hold up. I can give you Sayoko, her S.Link really would've worked much better if Yu was a real, speaking character, but Naoki and Hisano were great, especially Hisano. Just imagine living with your significant other for basically your entire life and then watching their illness slowly get worse, they don't recognize you or your children anymore and you start every day with trying to make them remember all those years you've spent together knowing well they won't remember it in few hours, day after day, and with every next day you start to hate them a little bit more. They don't even resemble the person you've married 60 years ago, they might as well be a total stranger, and all you want is for the person that not too long meant the world to you to just finally die. And one day they do.

It's really difficult imo. The hard part is mainly knowing which options give you the most points in social link conversations.

If you're going for it, the best way is to savescum EXTENSIVELY so that you never have to spend too much time "hanging out" with people without getting their s-link up. Also abuse the fox shrine a LOT for the same reason.

Some s-links have limited time windows. Max out the school links (culture and sports club) as fast as possible and spend time with Adachi whenever he's available.

PQ had some good ideas from Etrian Odyssey but for me highlighted how fucking obnoxious instant death spells in the series are. PQ was particularly bad about it.
