Dragon Priest is a solid Tier 2 deck right now though. Netherspite Historian lost a bunch of the crappy pulls, it generally always gets you a strong Dragon, and you can fit in Shadow Visions and Lyra and such.

It's not a curve deck with overstated minions anymore, but it's definitely solid.

My idea -

When you go to build a deck, Blizzard already offer some stupid "recipes" for decks.

Do a League of Legends, and make certain decks free to play for a week or so. Gives people a chance to actually compete with a decent deck, earn dust, and have something to aim for if they like the play style.

Also gives the core players something new to try - I am basically pigeonholed into Warrior decks for life now as all of my previous decks are Warrior - this kind of fucking sucks. I enjoy Warrior, but I'd like to try other classes, but can't.

OR, make certain cards free to play for a week - a selection of rare/epic/legendary that rotates.

I can't think of one good reason not to do this - not even money-grubbing, as if anything this acts like a hook more than anything

I hate this for the same reason why I hate the idea of paying to get a recipe's cards: monotony. I'm already facing the same decks over and over above Rank 15, what you're proposing is insuring I go against imbalanced decks straight from Rank 20.

If Team5 had any idea how to balance cards so one deck does not stand above 95% of the game's cards then it wouldn't be a problem, but as it is, you're only gonna end up with 4 out of 5 match-ups being Taunt Warrior or Quest Rogue or whatever the TempoStorm-approved deck is these days.

I have a really high winrate against taunt warrior with midrange paladin, I dunno about your taunt warrior specifically but typically stonehill defender gives much higher value taunts to the paladin rather than the warrior, and the paladin button is super good against the rag hero power.

Is it possible to make a fun deck while having few of the legendaries/epics? Anything interesting seems wildly expensive.

good cheap decks right now are, like you said, pirate warrior, midrange hunter and zoo although they're not very fun to play.
Tempo/secret/elemental mage also works fine and is arguably more fun, doesn't even require legendaries though you kinda want primordial glyphs.

The only deck that was made in this expansion was the Doom combo warlock

All other decks were made by blizzard, they just told us, hey, build decks around this quest or hey, there's this synergy or hey, there's this tribe, so you should build your entire deck around it
Decks are almost never created by players, and when they do blizzard ban these decks for not being the curveout cancer they wanted all the decks in the game to be (see: patron, freeze mage)

That's why hearthstone is cancer
