valves continual casualization oof dota is what killed it honestly. everytime valve too away a complex mechanic because shitters could spend 5 minutes learning how it worked or implemented changes where skill at the game was no longer important because the game just told or did it for you there was massive outcry from the community. valve didnt listen though because they thought casualization would bring in more new players but all it did was alienate the core audience and older continuing players. now the game is so dumbed down and retarded its basically a mix between HotS and league and no one wants to play it. if thats what players wanted they would already be playing those games. this along with the retarded UI changes and game play changes with 7.00 basically created a perfect storm and a mass exodus of players happened. the best part about it is that valve is too far invested in all these changes and reverting everything back would destroy what little confidence in the game thats left and be the final nail in the coffin as valve would have to admit that everything they have been dong in the last 2-3 years was completely wrong. dota will never recover, the game will slowly lose players unti. there is nothing left but bots people playing it for meme valve just like starcraft, wow, and tons of other games before them

I am trying to gain some more insight about dota 2.
SOme people have told me that the only good supports right now are supports that either scale well into late game, can farm quickly by themselves, or can roam early game. All other supports are apparently trash.

So which supports are trash and which supports are "good right now"?

I knwo Pudge and Mirana are the ideal support type. They can roam, they scale into late game, they can both farm quickly and efficiently. Hook is always relevant, arrow is always relevant.

Now which supports are garbage and why? I think supports like shadow shaman, bane and ancient apparition are bad right now. BKB's shit on shadow shaman and he isn't much help besides just dropping wards on towers.

Bane is the same way. Bane can sometimes do okay but again, a ult that "stuns you to stun someone else" is kinda shit in most cases. His scepter is really weak too.

AA is just a mess right now. Fragile, fills a VERY niche roll and he can't farm fast at all.

I am just looking for insight as to what supporting is and how its supposed to be played right now? As of right now, I just kind of hang out in lane with the safe lane carry because I don't understand "roaming". When I roam, I usually just end up underleveld and underfarmed.

Earth Spirit. Earthshaker is a meme hero which is useless early game and his entire game is dependent on his dagger timing.
WD is good because the cask is ultra-distruptive in teamfights if you're not in lane, maledict disables daggers for 12 seconds, heal is good and death ward bouncing everywhere is fight winning. 1-1-1 for safety but you can skip heal if you are wrecking the lane. I like points on heal if my safelaner is getting pressured or if he's retarded and needs it.

I am so upset about how cosmetics are done in dota 2.

I like cosmetics but for a lot of heroes.. They will probably NEVER see a good cosmetic arcana. For example, underplayed or not popular heroes will never EVER get an arcana because why would valve make them if they aren't going to sell?

The juggarnaut arcana sold like hot cakes because a bunch of dota 2 players are fucking weeb as fuck. If they came out with a ancient apparition arcana or elder titan arcana.. No one would buy it.

This is why arcanas should NOT be left up to voting but should be done on some sort of schedule. If people are left to voting for arcanas.. The only heroes that will ever win would be popular ones or ones that everyone plays.

Its also funny how when techies and legion came out, they got an arcana. Underlord comes out and he looks like total shit.

Keep arcanas a valuable scarcity by keeping them on popular heroes and on heroes which look good with them (read: girl heroes).

If every hero gets an arcana, how do you even justify a 35 dollar Io arcana, or a Chen arcana when you only see them once every 200 games.

Pic related is a pretty crappy support and everytime someone picks BH in their team, most of the time (like 90% of the time in my dota life), that team loses the game.

Hey Guys, I've thought of a great idea to improve Dota 2

Basically it's a new hero customization system called "Talent Cards"

You can now customize the Talent Trees of each of your heroes by using these cards

HOW TO GET THEM:

- Talent Cards are bought in packs containing 4 cards; 3 common cards, and 1 rare card

- Common cards will be more of generic bonuses that apply to all heroes, like increase movespeed, damage, gold per minute, xp per minute, etc...

- Rare cards will be more skill-specific bonuses like +30 Fissure damage, +2 Meepo Clones, +5 hits Living Armor, etc...

- Some generic bonuses will be rare, some skill-specific bonuses will be common, depending on balance


HOW TO USE THEM: (PIC RELATED)

- To customize a hero's Talent tree, simply go to the "HEROES" tab in your Dota menu, select the hero you want to customize, then click on the new "TALENTS" button next to LOADOUT

- Just scroll through your list of Talent Cards you own for the hero and they display the text and level requirement of the talent

- Select the card you want to equip and click-drag it into one of the two slots of its required level

- During future games, the talent in that slot of the tree will now have the effect of the equipped card


HOW IT IMPROVES DOTA 2:

- All players can now customize the Talent Trees of ALL or their favorite heroes to tailor them to their playstyle

- Do you want to play a Bloodseeker that moves superfast even when your opponents are at full HP? Do you want to play a fighting Anti-mage that blinks every 2 seconds and Burns the mana of all enemies in the AOE? Yes you can!

- The possibilities of custom talent builds are only limited by your skill and imagination!

- This is not P2W. All Talent Cards are designed to still be on par with the default talents of each level. It just adds more fun options for players that want to try new playstyles for their heroes!

I am 100% confident that this new feature will add hours and hours of enjoyment to Dota 2.

You have to understand BH is a hero difficult to master and most of the time, people dont know what the fuck are they doing.

BH is a great hero that can kill couriers and last hit the big neutrals from the enemy jungler, making them lose resources, gold and exp in the process.
His "supporting" role is inda different from the average support hero with disable and stuff. He outshines in an aggresive team, where they can take advantage from Track for extra gold. I made my team get a total of 10k reliable gold.

BH plays a big role with reliable gold since the gold you and your team gets is not discounted when you die, unsing the unreliable gold to buy wards and sentries makes sure BH can get better items faster than the rest of supports.

A few weeks back I installed Pillars of Eternity to alternate with dota. The thing is every time I try to play I get bored after 5 minutes. I enjoyed the Baldurs gate games as a kid but now neither the plot or the combat are entertaining.

Should I continue hoping something clicks or just try something else?

Good offlaners have a way of surviving harassment and ganks. This can be an escape, a lot of health, or both. Great offlaners also have abilities that allow them to lock down or harass the safelane heroes right back. Item build depends on the hero but for ET I'd probably buy tangoes, a stout, and leave the other 300 gold to buy a ring of regen at the side shop a few seconds after the bell, to go into either a soul ring or a tranquil boots.

ET is an okay offlaner. Spirit does a decent amount of damage and can make your right clicks surprisingly powerful if you put it i nthe middle of a creep wave, and nobody knows this because nobody plays ET. He suffers by not being that tanky and not having an escape other than stomping and hoping he can waddle away before the other guy wakes up. You have to play him conservatively.

What is the appropriate way of playing against invis heroes or heroes who buy invis items? Particularly, shadowblade shadow fiend.

I lose a lot of games to invis heroes and I play support. I am finding that even though I buy tons of sentires and dust, they still somehow prevail.
Hell, if you think about it.. they prevail when you DO buy sentries and dust because that is raping your wallet and a support with no items is even easier to kill.

What is the appropriate way to play against invis heroes? I just don't know what I as a support player can do. I can't go ward, and I have to carry like 5 sentries at all times just to have a chance at survival.

Shadowblade makes me upset particularly because its just so fucking effective at what it does and it upgrades.

I had a lot of trouble with invis heroes when I first started but the main points are:
plant where your team needs it. If they're behind and need to farm jungle then plant a ward which covers 2 camps, pair it with obs ward, ping it and say "farm here, if you farm elsewhere and die it's not my fault".
Plant it in lane if they're looking to farm the lane or if a push is coming, or if you're pushing a tower you need vision in front and preferably behind you.

Also expect to be poor, hopefully you have a pos4/5 with you sharing warding duties but in case you don't, you're shit out of luck.
You can't plant the entire map because that's a waste, so make them count.
Dusts are for offensively catching invis heroes, while sents are defensive which can help you turn on an invis hero.

They have the advantage of being invis, yes, but being invis when you are under a sent (and they don't know about it) makes you out of position and prime for the picking.

I don't think you understand how it worked. The patch before 6.86 - 6.87 weren't that good so a lot of people left the game just like they do now. And while the Frankfurt Major was a success, the compendium released for it was shit. So Valve reworked it into the Battle Pass and released it during around the end of January last year. And as you can see from the statistics that get posted around here it was a success because it helped getting people back in the game up until November last year. Probably the fact that 6.88 was a good patch also helped a lot. Keep in mind there was no New Bloom event last year so there were no free items to make people play (as you or the other guy said).

They tried it this year, and while it was fun it didn't help them as you can see from the statistics I mentioned above. Now, the International Battle Pass is on its way so I guess you are right, people will come back to donate welfare to the pros.

I hope that the next major patch, 7.1, will come after the Kiev Major because in my opinion what is killing the game is Valve's new policy of releasing a major patch every 6-10 months.
