I knew NMS would be disappointing when I saw it was made in a SPORE like procedural generation
I don't even know if it could be fixed by making an entire gameplay around terraforming planet. The game is just half-done.
I've got high expectation from Subnautica, and hope from OSIRIS:New Dawn
Cruiser/Battle Cruiser/Battleship when.
How are you liking the Elite Dangerous: Commanders™ update so far, CMDRs?
>>174046126
Javelin is a Destroyer for all I know
Also waiting to see
- Frigate with gun and shield
- Cruiser, speedier than the Bengal but packing as much firepower
Cruiser/Carrier would be this pict.
I wonder when they'll blown our mind revealing they worked on it for years.
Thoughts: Why is second carrier needed?
Of course as navy-in-space go the Bengal is more of a Battlestar "do everything"
[/rambling]

It's great, my wife's son and I went exploring in multicrew on my trusty cobra!

Cultist is the only word to describe these cunts.
Can't wait to board their ships and rape them.
"The worlds we’re creating are massive, and giant planets mean we need a lot of eyes (and mice, keyboards and flight sticks) making sure they’re up to par."
Don't forget to visit our cash shop and spend your UEC (1000 = $1), maybe pick up a single size 3 gun which costs 18,000 UEC! Or maybe race a few times on our terrible course so you can rent one for 7 (SEVEN) days (WHOLE DAYS)!
For immersion purposes and technical details which we won't go in to, we had to wipe your alpha currency from your account with this minor patch, so feel free to come and test all our bugs by running those same individually-crafted missions you've done before.
I'd like to thank our community for sticking with us in recent attempts by Derek Smart and goons from criticizing us taking 5 years to have nothing to show, and for accusing us of hiding the fact that 3.0 doesn't even exist. As you can clearly see, our version of 3.0 is a minor patch holding basically 4 barren moons and no other planets, so we are on the winning side of history. We're looking forward to the next 2 months as we make Star Citizen even better. o7

>Javelin "destroyer"
>only has point defense turrets, no large guns
What's the point.
>>174047379
Who cares about the shit design of their ships if they don't even have a game to use them in? You're basically arguing about jpgs at this point.

I'm not even downloading 3.0. It's an insult at this point.
>open development
>>174047002
Did you check the large "schedule"? It's what some poor production girl has done in excel after lunch break. There's lot of random things and especially when you take a look at the graphics section, the brown color, it states some weird contradicting schedules just slapped around so it looks like they have everything together... This schedule is pure fiction.
>>174047334
Thank you master

>a turret buried between engines
>can't turn, can't hit anything

I don`t want to sound like a perve or anything, but...Males in Character Creation...
Have you noticed they have no... package?
Seriously, man, I noticed it pretty much straight away. These men don`t have anything down there. It don`t look normal. i`m an artist and when I draw men you have to make a space for their `package` or they`re females- Or eunuchs.
I know I`ve set myself up for lots of ribbing, but I have to point this out.
Next episode I`ll be pointing out how women`s chest area (sheesh stop with the censorship already!) is ridiculously flat.

>>174047925
>I would expect that in the future we would have transcended gender politics altogether.
Right, we settled on two genders
Hmmm what could Com be?
Infact zooming into a lof to the schedule shows a lot of random/generic names with no real dates set.
>>174047905
Look at the schedule. It will take a minimum of 2 years before the basics are in. Before they can even begin the work of populating the systems with missions and assets, which will take another 2 years easily.
This is just amazing
>>174047726
The turrets are stored between the engines when in a non-combat state. Their firing arc isn't particularly great though. CIG has a history of putting turrets in hampering positions and making them hard to use i.e. the Constellation, the Retaliator

For a ship of it's size they are kinda small yeah, but the smallest of those turrets are more or less the size of an Aurora, and the bigger ones are almost as big as 2 Freelancers side by side.

>>174047379

Long range- you need ASP or better Anaconda.
Fuck around with stars close by- anything
>>174050218
yeah, mostly todays ships have AA guns and then missiles
>>174050127
Prepare for a long, frustrating and unrewarding wait.
>>174049787
What more is there to say/do but wait? Saying the game doesn't exist changes nothing. Despite our complaining on a cantonese bulletin board, the game will still still take just as long.
If you want to talk about something, start a conversation about it. Until then, we talk about what we want, and if that means ships, it will be ships.
>>174050127
Do it, suffer with us
>>174050127
You're better off not even getting it honestly. Two years ago I would've said "wait a year or two for the alpha to become fun" but I would still say the same today.
Just forget about it. Maybe a few years later it might become fun, but for now it's just hell waiting day by day.

>Hey guys I know we've broken a lot of promises in the past so instead of giving you release dates I'm just gonna tell you what will be in each patch and we're going to give you weekly schedule updates and it'll be done when it's done because I want to be transparent an honest with you
>cut 90% of the shit supposed to be in 3.0
>delay that content over the next two major patches
>no mention of prefessions other than the fact that the Prospector will be flyable
These guys are really stretching my good faith.
>>174050127
You shouldn't do it because there's alternative like Elite:Dangerous, a space-truck simulator with 0 depth, procedurally generated boringness and a clear VISION about increasing grind at any opportunity so as to increase artificially the time you'll spend doing the only gameplay available : getting bigger ship.
If that's not your style you can also fight robot Sentinel on the 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 planets of No Man's Sky, much more than Star Citizen's ~100 systems (300 planets at best) and its dozens of hand-made city-spaceport.
There's no reason to take a starter pack for SC because SC is only a cheap content/features oriented MMO with no subscription which will have more gameplay than typical AAA game even half-complete.
And don't get me started about getting a Single Player campaign which is unlikely to fail because it's what his maker Chris Robert used to do when he made Game-of-the-year winning award. That dude left a game half-made (Freelancer) which turned out alright and is still played now, can you believe it?
So yeah, there's absolutely no point getting two AAA+ game for cheap when they'll probably sell for 80$ each in a few years.
I mean, just look at this ugly screenshot from an in-game demonstration, just an entire planet with biomes, plant, wreck? We've only seen one animal and it was a giant worms, as if you mixed Star Wars and Dune in an FPS game with space-simulation.
Make your choice.
So what's the deal with the Bucc /vg/? Shitters can't stay alive or actually a bad ship?

This.
I don't even know why they mentioned it was going to be in, why bother?
Wouldn't have been much of a fuss if they stuck to what it originally was

>Shitters can't stay alive
If you are trying to go toe to toe with SH and Sabres, that's kinda the definition of a Bucc shitter. You're faster, accelerate better, turn sharper, and are a smaller target. Quit allowing yourself to get hit, and focus on shooting the engines out of you opponent. Try to be a monkey on their back, but run if you don't have the advantage.
>>174052753

The Avenger isn't on there either, and it is old also. Maybe they don't get scheduled if the exterior appearance doesn't change?
>>174055745
Avenger doesn't need half the rework the 300i does.
>>174055812
That's true, but they both need the blended damage states created. Fuck, who knows? Maybe neither will be looked at at all.
So I've had a big break in Elite. Im wanting to get back, but there is so much new stuff, and changes.
Is there any good videoes that can help me get a bit back into it? My ship is and was originaly made for long distance jumping and trading. As trading was the most optimal way getting money way back
>>174056247
Also, is Horizon worth it? Its on sale I noticed
>>174056896
Horizon has never been worth. While in a sense it is hyperbole saying this, it doesn't really add anything to the game.
Will 3.0 come before 2017?
>>174057206
Supposedly, end of June this year.
>>174057206
Yes, one of the stretch goals is a time machine back to 2016 with the 3.0 code
>>174057206
Yeah, by the looks of it. Pretty much as expected they scaled back what they are delivering for the first release quite a lot. Really what we are getting now is item 2.0/cargo + planets. They've already got planets working because german magic, and now it seems the entire of their resources is on the other stuff.
Traps that arent ugly should be the norm in the future
>>174057206
3.0 was gutted. In the same way 2.6 was. Even if it's 3 months away, so what? It's just a couple of moons.
99 more solar systems to go!
>>174057306
>planets
moons, no planets
>>174057547
They're identical from a tech standpoint.
>>174057547
The planet tech is what is working.
What they scrolled back on is landing zones implimented within that, other than maybe Levski.
>>174057547
Basically the same thing, planets will just be bigger and have more details, POI and whatnot. But the base is essentially the same.
>>174057637
Yeah I'm sure 3 completely barren, lifeless balls of rock (with no atmosphere?) are the same as ArcCorp and Crusader
>>174057637
>>174057701
>>174057725
Its not that they aren't roughly the same, its that they said they would be in for months and months now.
I think a big part of this was performance too, so I don't see 3 pretty much identical planets as a proof of concept of ones with actual places to visit rather than just terrain, with nothing but rocks on it to boot.
>>174057784
...They are. Obviously they don't have the air system for rooms working yet, but planets and moons are literally the same to the procedural planet system. Big balls of rocks. What they put on those planets really has very little to do with the procedural planet system.
>rolling efficient grade 5 on my APAs for my vulture
>random dazzle shell
>random dispersal field
>random plasma slug
>random lock breaker
what the fuck is going on
>>174057908
The planet tech works, and has worked for a long time now anon. The problem is actually building out places like ArcCorp and Hurson.
You may think the planet tech and landing zones are the same thing, but they are not.
the polaris is presently slated to rank among the highest firepower ships in the game and various aspects of its design forego utility in the name of killing potential. a magazine of 28 maximum-size torpedoes will likely be capable of (if necessary) ablating to grievous extent any known structure or ship if given opportunity for repeated runs and assumed depletion of munition stocks
it can be assumed they'll serve as superheavy strike craft that can project an area of advisable avoidance for most smaller vessels in its immediate vicinity as it rapidly (in comparison to other caps) comes and goes in its mission, hopefully only tailing off when faced with insurmountable screening upon its desired target or when a reasonable level of damage is sustained
factors to consider include its manufacturer, rsi, which creates bricks and has serious lineage in other vessels such as the bengal. a primary concern will likely prove to be the economical and meaningful expenditure of torpedoes as they are liable to simply be shot out if left unattended to a dense screen, miss outright, or be intercepted by some means. (a ship of lesser value may well be expected in some form of engagement one day to take one for the team and position the tip into his face to detonate it then and there, presuming the torp isn't smart enough to not care and careen through them) atop this is the very likely relatively extreme expense in deploying such munitions and the costs associated with keeping them stocked with these primary intended forms of damage dealing.
an additional area of focus could well lie in the diversity of torpedoes to be available to ships with this size of torpedo tube, and whether or not the polaris' loading mechanism could discriminate in which munitions it loads and allow the loading deck officer to choose which types to load in which tubes with any given usage

Only reason why the current ToS exists as is is because no one has challenged Valve over it yet, because no one has yet been willing to spend a ridiculous amount of money on lawyers and court fees just to prove a point. If Valve does get dragged to court over it they'll lose.

No they contracted on a lot of outsourced staff for a game they thought would be completed somewhere between 2014 and 2016 those contracts eventually come up for renegotiation. CIG has been hiring pretty heavily over the last several years so no doubt while outsourced staff worked on other things they worked on internal however I imagine the Illfonic situation with FPS not working essentially set CIG back more than a year so they've been trying to catch up while remaining positive to backers. I think Stanton was a good system for CIG back when you couldn't land on planets but then the PG tech showed it could be done sooner and now they're left trying to make planets that were meant to be just landing zones large set pieces that would be the entire focus of a game company for just 1 planet. How do you allow players to fly over planets land anywhere and what do you do if the player walks up to a city outside the landing zone a city that isn't meant to be an area they want to populate or polish?

I think the style will hold up when it's completely finished.
The important part is the tech to support thousand-man battles in RvR without fps drops or network issues.
I was most impressed with the rendering distance of players, which is seemingly without limits, so you can see little dots moving in the distance, or armies moving in the darkness with lighting held up.

Capships actually steal kill credit even if you land some hits. This is to prevent people parking beside one and AFK turreting.
Which one of these is more likely to fix the framerate bottleneck in the PU?
>ENTITY UPDATE COMPONENT SCHEDULER
>Will allow lower priority entities (i.e. those further away from players) to be updated less frequently, which should improve the overall framerate and allow us to add more content to the universe.
>NETWORK BIND/UNBIND (STRETCH GOAL)
>Eliminate network updates for entities far away from clients. Should greatly reduce the amount of work the netcode has to do, helping improve server performance. A greater proportion of client bandwidth will be spent on entities close to the client.

>Why does the Type-9 carry less cargo than the Corvette despite having more overall volume?
Because all mass/size numbers have been decided by random.org. You also have shit like limpet controller weighting 128 tons.

I always liked how the Python's entire design made no sense. Especially at release when the python was an unstoppable force of nature.

You can downgrade your PP if you aren't drawing enough power to need a bigger one, but bear in mind that lower rank (E-A) has shittier heat efficiency regardless of size.
The distro controls how fast your caps recharge, which directly determines your sustained DPS or how often you can boost in combat so it's absolutely essential you max it out if you're fighting. In other situations it's not so important.

the alpha is a courtesy to the backers and nothing else. the game would never have made it past $30 million without a playable pre-pre-pre alpha. it's what's holding the game back to some extent (needing to maintain and improve the alpha so that people stay happy) but it's what has them sitting at $150 million with the largest croudfunded thing ever.
give it another year and it'll be at the point where most companies say "we've worked on this game for 5 years, we can probably afford to release a closed alpha". yet we've watched the game happen since day 1, instead of watching it happen from the point where it's been in development for 5 years and theres a pretty good alpha.

so basically avenger will be garbage forever? Which ship should I switch to? I have the stalker
i still dont see how piracy is supposed to be an effective game strategy. piracy only works because one side(pirates) are very armed and the people they attack are very unarmed(merchants)
lets assume half the people fight back(it will be more because whats the point of guns on your ship then) and lets assume you win half those fights, then the cargo you successfully steal the 3 other times(assuming its not destroyed with the ship) will have to be worth the cost of your ship just to break even(not counting fuel/repairs)
and all that is assuming you never get caught and earn criminal ratings
are all of your successful piracy runs supposed to be against dickless NPCs? then why play an MMO?
every cargo ship has guns, looking at the real world it doesnt have a counterpart. if you are transporting valuables through dangerous areas then you hire armed escorts. putting guns on your cargo ship invites the player to stay and get themselves killed with the valuable cargo in the dogfight.

At least the server had the decency to say something to you. All I'd get was my whole screen going black with the music still playing and the rest of the game frozen. Forced to kill task and go back in. Every 10 kills or so.
>>174117012
I love the aesthetic. It reminds me of the Imperial Eagle from ED slightly. Pic related. MUH
>>174117251
ED has multiplayer, but it's P2p so you've already cut your chances of meeting someone in half. Then you have the issue of people playing on "private" servers where you cannot join without an invite, or literally cannot join at all because they're in a glorified single player instance. Then there are the people who immediately disconnect once a person shows up. Then there are some PVP issues which make it difficult for newbies to get a hang of things. Then there's the fact that you may not encounter anyone because procedurally generated billions of star systems.

No. They just had the small fighter Arena mode available as a $5 standalone game.
Anyone with the full game also has access to it.

Are you familiar with freedom of association? if something like this were to happen in the REAL world (which it never would, because they screen the police for psychopaths, and don't just let any civilian show up to their SWAT raids), the police would have turned and gunned you down the moment you decided to start firing in their vicinity, even if you were shooting at the "bad guys".
Let me tell you, I hope you don't own a firearm in real life.
>>174136992
But I'm talking about a legal bounty hunter. Let's say one tries to take down some target criminal, who starts shooting, which a cop notices, and joins in. Would the bounty hunter have to stand down in this case?
>>174133985
Internet anonymity and the difficulty to judge legal coordinated harassment did create a big problem.
You can take to justice 100 persons for clear act of harassment, but it's harder with 100 gamers/fake-account doing internet-thing that may or may not have been made with ill intent.

>>174137827
Yes. The moment the authorities actively engage, a bounty hunter (at least in the US) is required to stand down.
>>174137827
Yes. Legally speaking bounty hunters (in the united states) have always been on shaky ground. Strictly speaking what they do can be defined and prosecuted as stalking, harassment, assault & battery (of various kinds if violence is necessary to subdue the target), and even kidnapping.
Law enforcement has traditionally turned a blind eye to that kind of thing when a bounty hunter delivers a fugitive because it saves them the hassle of hunting him down themselves, but the main reason there are so few bounty hunters is because any lawyer with two coins to rub together knows that a criminal can sue the shit out of a bounty hunter if they go after and catch them.
>>174136391
Did it say 400 credit fine for assault when you shot the police?
No, it said 400 credit bounty, which means you are now wanted dead in that jurisdiction. The cops aren't paid by bounty value so they don't give a fuck how small it is, only that you need to die.
Life is cheap and this is a universe where you will be executed for loitering, let alone shooting an officer of the law.
On a side note if a bounty hunter NPC scans you and sees a bounty that small they will usually just insult you as not being worth their time and ignore you.
>>174138197
The bounty system actually ignores minor shield damage as long as you were targeting somebody else when you caused said damage.
Hull damage always results in an assault charge, which kind of sucks since ED ships have ludicrously tough hulls and even the weakest ones can shrug off several direct hits.

Any idea when the Idris or Javelin will be added?
I know that the Idris has been complete for a while and the Javelin is at least nearing completion, but neither is slated to be included in 3.0. 3.0 is supposed to be the netcode overhaul, so what's preventing the big ships from getting put in?

Lack of a universe where they would have a place, and not yet shown off in SQ42
>>174146689
Those are SQ42 elements that we won't see anything more about until the game is shown. I suspect mining is in the same boat, since it was mentioned as part of the SQ42 story or something.
>>174146689
Cap ships are being made at the moment because they are set pieces for S42. The game is literally set in them.
The actual functionality that would have to be in place for them to be in the PU is way, way off.

>confirm that ship is fully functional, per Chris' autism
>replace low level npc and take over his responsibilities.
>spend next 300 hours mopping corridors and eating at the cafeteria
>end of greentext
>>174146689
Well, I don't think they'll unveil those trump card until/unless
- they already tested the new netcode with lot of player
- they ran out of bigger ship to test (like the Endeavor or the Carrack)
- those ship are near feature complete and not clunky unbalanced free-meal for Retaliator
- they add the capital-ship arena they hoped to make
- It's the last days before releasing the game and they want future-buyer to be shitting themselves with NPC capital ship.
In fact I don't think they'll let us alpha test stuff beyond the Orion, or it will be NPC.
The Bengal is right out as well, we will probably only ever board it in the final game/MMO
>>174149391
I'm laughing if SQ42 script have you do ridiculously low-key chore more than once
(and beyond carrying crate I mean, we all know that's going to be in the tutorial-part or something)
>>174149682
The only reasonable way we will have mining in 3.0 is if it is actually a SQ42 feature and they are going to sneak release SQ42 much sooner than we think. I'm not optimistic, but if no one is lying, that's the only reasonable explanation. You very well may start off the story mining or some other low level shit and get dragged into a conflict. Or, there are npc miners in the story you interact with and they want the mining mechanic to be real for that.
>>174149989
>You very well may start off the story mining or some other low level shit and get dragged into a conflict
We already know the story.
We're not getting mining in 3.0, and NPCs wouldn't require the mechanic to work.
Why do you want mining? Tried mining in Elite? It's like real time job. There is no way to make mining exiting.
Mining in games like this should be passive, you invest in mining drones and they return with shit they mined after few days or so mining in person is boring as fuck
>>174146689

the production schedule shows 3.1 and 3.2. It's not on those either. So, either mining has been pushed to beyond 3.2 or it is a SQ42 feature and that's why we don't see it.

>>174149989
I think you quoted the wrong person, the real question is wether or not SQ42 will (later?) have an open world like (game)Freelancer.
The first game have likely to be linear but the following one will be made after SC is out and with all feature out.
It will be pretty jarring if SQ42 turn out to require the MMO part to be 98% complete as well
>>174150964
>It's not on those either. So, either mining has been pushed to beyond 3.2
I can't believe you don't think this is more likely.
We're going through a period of "it'll be out by the end of 2016.. I mean 6 months later" right now
Beam weapons?
How do I get good at flying in Elite?
I can't even outmaneuver NPCs. Nose up, thrusters down still end up with enemy ships behind me, doing fly-by while I barely manage to put couple of shots by the time I turn around if I'm lucky.
>>174151716
Well, the schedule conflicts with what Brian explicitly confirmed. I don't think he would intentionally mislead us, or be misinformed himself. We know foundry42 is doing a lot of the SQ42 stuff. I think 3.2+ for mining is 49% likely. I think what is 51% likely is SQ42 ep1 has mining and that's where the feature was needed first.
Also, as huge a critic as I have been of the delays in the past, in the grand scheme, a 6 month delay for netcode is not unreasonable if they are going in the right direction. I still reserve judgement until we actually see it.

AIs at higher ranks can actually be somewhat competent. If you're consistently trying to strafe around behind them, they'll start flying backwards to stop you from closing the necessary distance, and will do so with throttle in the blue so they can also turn fast enough to keep you in sight.
A ship reversing and turning in the blue has a minuscule turning circle while yours trying to circle behind them will be comparatively huge. This is how something like an Anaconda keeps its nose pointed at you even though you're flying a maneuverable fighter.
For smart AIs you need to change tactics and occasionally perform boost-and-invert re-positioning maneuvers.

Which Missile type require no lock in SC?
Why does CIG keep making stations that just have those landing pads attached somewhere? If there were hangars of some sort they could at least bullshit ship (de)spawning in a closed off room connected to the landing pad via elevators or something, but I don't see how those pads would work out in the long term.

I love the idea of some asshat in a Superhornet coming up on a Hull-C or D, giving them an ultimatum, and then being blasted out of space by a few dozen ballistic cannons in concealed containers. The freighter wouldn't even be carrying cargo, it just wanted someone to have to say they lost to a Hull.

You could, aim for Cobra Mk III, it's general utility/fighting ship. It's suitable for bit of everything. Lot of people hate the ship on this thread because it reminds them about their dads. However, it is still very viable choice. Add extra cargo space, some lasers and mining laser and you should be set. Mining is deadly boring though but I'm going to do that as well. Then you need to find metal asteroids.

i feel there's little reason to bother playing SC with anything but MKB at the moment except for perhaps a few specific hulls because of how interactive mode/gimbal fire works. can't be used very properly on a HOTAS setup with some types of mount arrays. if a ship is entirely fixed-guns or even nogunz (at least under your control) you're all set though and can really get into it with the granularity of control offeredwith any hope the polaris helmsman won't be tasked with anything but target alignment and flight so it could be an ideal station for dat sick input method

different anon, but I totally change my setup in both games, only the throttle is different between ED and SC.
My mouse is pitch and yaw, roll is on A and D, side strafe is on Q and E. You are just correcting the nose with the mouse and controlling roll and strafe with the kb.
I also change the throttle in SC to double tap W and S, then set forward strafe to W and spacebrake to S. The biggest trouble for me was throttle control. Double tap makes it less likely that I end up with the throttle where I don't want it. Fwd strafe on W gives me 100% as a push to hold.
>>174178437
I tweaked the settings from the default slightly.
For me, mouse up and down controls pitch, left and right controls yaw (meaning straight turning left or right), A/D are roll left/right, Q/E is strafe left/right, R/F is strafe up/down.
>>174178980
I use my mouse wheel for throttle, works pretty good.
>>174179153
too handy as a view zoom. I rarely need more than small tweaks to the throttle, since modulating speed with fwd strafe and spacebrake is pretty easy. My throttle is usually set just under 50% and I can change my speed moment to moment with ease.
Spacebrake on S and Boost bound to a single key are the biggest helps. Also, boost and AB stack if anyone didn't know.
>>174178437
you have to be gentle and very fucky at the same time, with base controls i've not altered. sort of like scribbling over a target to orient directional vector at the target because gimbals inherently drag the ship along with your point of aim and if used with hotas it's the same thing if more imprecise due to a lack of mouse. so much of it is keyboard work and i think i need one with better simultaneous input if it isn't the game's fault as i've found myself entering several commands at once only to have the last few not go through or for some manner of drop to happen or whatever. aiming a wee bit ahead of a PIP has aided me too with the mouse but it's slow and steady, sorta. implement decoupled to force things into favorable firing arcs and you seem to be talking with my limited experience in mostly proto-crusader
>it's realthat i can pick this up tangibly and begin to feel around what will probably be the single major fixed point in spess game development for many years to come upon its release gets me every time. those arguing insubstantial progress need only realize that they look at something synthesized from that which made crysis a reality. i can't help but look with scorn upon my prior opinions that the game would have been better served with another engine because the lumberyard transition was clearly a nigh seamless (in game development terms) one and they have,
from top to bottom at the most rudimentary foundation the platforms with which to do everything from diverse FPS elements to full-on capital ship warfare. we'll see where it goes

I just want to chip in with a few thoughts.
I know the Internet has democratised free speech, and given everyone a voice to say whatever the hell they want. However, I'm appealing to people here to *please* stop complaining about servers, space legs, nerfing, ranking, bounties, and everything else that's annoying you all.
Elite is exactly what Elite is, nothing more and nothing less. On any single day, a hundred things can go wrong, and a hundred things might or might not be announced.
If you feel that Elite isn't the game for you, there are plenty of alternatives.
For the rest of us, Elite is fine. It's not perfect. You might want it to be perfect. I might want it to be perfect. Perfect however takes time, money, dedication and most importantly support!
So please, please just accept that things are as they are and stop whinging about things all the time (obviously this is aimed only at the people who are).
It's immensely difficult and complicated designing and building a game like Elite. If you think it should be better, then be constructive, or apply to work for Frontier and improve it yourself.
I for one, am sick of the complaining.

They won't devote dev time to something being adequately handled externally, unfortunately. They'd probably kowtow to the dads and make the Anaconda's radio a size 7 250ton module that can be engineered to have +22 preset stations.

1st-class and below cabins can be fitted to anything, and I haven't seen a single luxury-class passenger for the in-system beacons. I also haven't see any groups over 8 people in size. They always range 2-8 per mission.
>>174194707
I'm figuring it out with the dolphin now. the 5e economy cabin has to go, definitely first class or luxury. The 2e cabins aren't worth it either, need minimum cargo room anyway. The 4d business cabins are easiest to fill.
The missions are plenty although a few have completed, but with no reward at Millerport.

>>174203495
unless i'm retarded cruise mode was excised in favor of simple afterburner/boost speed increase for now but i doubt the flight model is anywhere near complete

The prevailing strategy with a Constellation is to not engage fighters on your own because you're a multipurpose space freighter.

Clearly although its making it hard to see why anyone would take an andromeda over a taurus.
Granted if they actually deliver on NPC crewmen and I can tell my hireling "nigga hold my beer" and run to the merlin, that'd be fun.
>>174204227
Both that and it has more missiles as well, though it's questionable how much of a difference those will actually make. Plus the Taurus only comes with one turret stock if I remember correctlly.
We should merge with EVE Online general too. This way we would have 3 awesome space vidya.
so I'm wanting to get in a combat ship (currently only got my t6), not sure what I should go for, and if the fun sounding weapons are worth it (railguns, missiles, torps, etc).

Ah two turrets, that'd do it. I think once those can be reliably controlled (friends or NPCs) the andromeda can at least handle random NPC encounters.
And missiles have helped when I can actually get them to fire reliably.
>>174204656
Vulture is a common pick for first serious combat ship.
Class 3 hardpoints means rails/missiles/torps are kind of a waste on it, though. Also it's literally Power Management Shenanigans: The Starship.

Cutlass is getting reworked and should offer some great value compared to other ships. Both can store a Dragonfly, but only the Cutlass has a confirmed airshield so you can open the ramp without decompressing. Plus you get some side doors for fucking around on planets.
Also, it comes with tractor beams.

Is it likely that there'll be a price change to Cutlass with the rework, or will it stay at the same price point?
>>174206132
Freelancer's cockpit is easily the worst in the entire game, Cutlass cockpit is great.
Cutlass is slightly unwieldly, but you can fight it into line to make it perform okay as a fighter, as long as your opponent isn't too skilled. Freelancer is a free kill.

Chaff: If you're in a small and/or maneuverable ship you're effectively invincible against targets that rely on turrets and gimbals. So basically NPCs, since players who are not shitters primarily run fixed weapons.
ECM: Much harder to use than point defense but it's the only way to stop an entire pack hound salvo or misdirect torpedoes. vs NPCs it's not very useful since they don't tend to use torps or pack hounds.
>>174206631

>>174216027
The old models also look like shit in every other aspect, the models and textures are subpar. Plus they're not laid out properly for items 2.0 and ship components.

>that Starfarer interior layout
Really feels like the top priority was making some maze-like fps level instead of a functional ship interior. I really hope that's only because it's in S42 and not a trend that will continue for all the other big ships.
>>174216768
If you'll look at the interior layout of the Caterpillar and Javelin, it seems a lot more straightforward. I think "stupid confusing interior layout" is just going to be a MISC thing at this point.

I bought a beluga without knowing what I was doing. I didn't realize that cabins were assigned one per contract regardless of leftover space.
After that, I ended up outfitting my anaconda instead. The have the same number of optional slots, however the conda has a larger number of size 4+ slots and its lower mass lets it use a smaller slot for a shield generator to protect the paint job and keep passengers happy.
I suppose the Beluga is a bit more agile in supercruise, is cheaper, and can equip luxury compartments, but I think the conda is better if you have access to it. I don't think luxury contracts are common enough or sufficiently better than first class missions to give the beluga and advantage over the number of larger compartments that the conda can carry.
>>174219889
>I don't think luxury contracts are common enough or sufficiently better than first class missions to give the beluga and advantage
They aren't. This is why everyone uses Asps and Anacondas as taxis and the Orca/Beluga (and now Dolphin) continue to be mostly unused for their primary role.
>>174220083
>the Orca/Beluga (and now Dolphin) continue to be mostly unused for their primary role.
Do they even have a secondary role? I know that the Orca was mildly popular as a novelty battering ram, but then they went and reduced its tonnage.
I swear that an unpaid intern could notice these balance discrepancies better than Sandro.
>>174188116
Some people are here for the COOP rather than the PvPgriefing, and even those who want PvP don't want "please rob me of all the fun I had" when they only have a few hours to play.
That why it's refreshing to hear about SC 80% npc features, I don't think I need to explain what it allow.
>>174188116
Well if you are min-maxing your grinding, there is no reason to leave solo. Going into open mode adds additional risk with no increase in rewards.
Back during beta, there was talk about magnifying open-mode rewards and locking the community goal content to open mode, but the Dads threw an an absolute shitfit of epic proportions.
>>174222497
tfw no single shard space sim with open PvP and a sense of danger that isn't just high level players stomping on low level players' faces repeatedly.
>>174222718
> that isn't just high level players stomping on low level players' faces repeatedly.
That's why SOLO and BOT exist. You can't balance in real time a god-level players, you can't keep him away from the very weak he can gank, and it's very constrictive to make ganking low level player unprofitable
Unless you have several instance and you reroute the players with some good algorithm.
Trust me single shard space sim is a FLAW not a good things. That's why MOBA game have matchmaker.

>32min to unload cargo
I really hate dad's dreaming about the game
>>174222278
I've yet to hear anything about the game not being extremely punishing and painful for anyone who plans to make a living from piracy or outright murder. if 80% of the ships or people you see in the game are AI life with varying degrees of "morality", i don't see griefing being much of an issue. if anything the griefing will come from the people who the UEE see as being good guys, camping the fuck out of known pirate systems, knowing that they can just hop back out to a UEE system and have infinite AI space cop support.
depends on where they go with stealth systems and criminal status interractions
>>174226005
obviously this punishment could be a completely acceptable tradeoff for an organized squad who knows exactly who what when and where to do this to
acquiring free money at low risk with less work than it took the person youre taking from, at the cost of needing to watch your back slightly more than SPACEDAD1978 running cargo back and forth from point a to b for 99999 hours of gameplay

>32min to unload cargo
Sounds nice.I need time for all that shit i will do on space stations.
>>174226005
If it's any realistic piracy will be playing hard mode with little profit unless you are at the top of the organization or doing risky stuff (not attacking random cargo)
80% of what they'll prey on will be npc, the players they meet should be harder to kill and will include bounty hunter.
Piracy have to be a minority because the UEE also have to deal with other organizations, the Vaandul, Banu and Xi'an. And no doubt you will have to fight rogue/pirate Banu and Xi'an.
I also agree that a big unknown is how a pirate will be able to move around in protected space. If criminal are recognized separately by their ship / persons then they'll want different ship for legal and illegal stuff and steer away from scanner that scan them as a person (I suspect the LZ will have shaddy entrance for them)
/speculation
