He thinks he's talking to Chara, but that's not at all certain, because Chara talks to you in a very similar way in Genocide post-game. He might be talking directly to the player.

The reverse is also true though, it doesn't seem like bonding with Frisk was something Chara had done by choice, so how would they just jump off them afterwards? Frisk doesn't really experience any significant changes, unlike Flowey/Asriel.

The Player is sort of written into the story, but the way it's done is inconsistent as fuck.

It's best to think as simply as Toby did when he wrote it.

I had fun at Comic-Con today. I went dressed as Sans and got pictures with other Undertale cosplayers. There were like four other Sanses, a Papyrus, an Asriel, a Chara, and a Gaster. I also bought a Papyrus fridge magnet for someone I know. Didn't buy much for myself, but I did see plenty of good UT merch. Also, a few people who weren't dressed as Undertales recognised me as Sans. That was nice.

Apart from the Gaster (who I couldn't tell from under the mask), they were all girls. I was the only boy Undertale. Why?

It's sad, I think there'd actually be a market for it, interesting horror bits in a more modern dressing, but probably not an easy thing to pitch. I guess webshows might possibly be the other avenue (YT stuff has certainly tried to pick up the slack), but those often end up trying to be so convoluted and 'meaningful' that the core idea gets very muddied somewhere down the line. It's a shame, really.

Hmm, writing the first part of a crossover fic. They would incessantly post Hyperdeath Asriel and shota Asriel, lewd and non-lewd and suck up the image limit in a few hours.

Good point, sorry. I had actually spitball the elevator pitch earlier this week. In any case, it's a Harry Potter crossover (specifically Deathly Hallows)

Outline: One of Voldemort's horcruxes ends up in the Underground after the Barrier breaks, and Flowey finds it. It's only part of a human soul, but it's so magically powerful he becomes Asriel again, albeit an Asriel who's not as torn up about his Floweyness as you might think. Then over the next few months it starts influencing him. Eventually Harry and friends arrive to track it down.

Difficulty: I've introduced two questions the Monsters don't have answers to: Where have human wizards gone (Ebott's native wizards were massacred around the same time as Salem, part of the impetus for Wizard secrecy which happens during the Monsters' confinement), and why the world doesn't seem to be reacting to them (lack of manpower in Ebott combined with actually forgetting about the monsters (died with Ebott Wizards) means International Wizardry was caught on the backfoot, and the War with Voldemort means they're stretched to cover it up completely, can only rely on tabloids and internet rumour milling. At the end of the story there'll probably be some compromise where Monster magic is acknowledged but human magic is kept secret.

In any case, raising this mystery might have been a mistake because to get the HP ball rolling I was hoping to have an alternate scene where Mundungus Fletcher reveals he heard talk of a wizard trove in Ebott and was looking for it near the mountain when he dropped Slytherin's locket there, but then I've answered a mystery that probably needs explained again when Harry eventually reaches Ebott and that feels inefficient.

No, that ruins the point. Frisk and Chara are supposed to look similar. For all intents and purposes, Frisk and Chara are supposed to pretty much be the same person on the outside. The game doesn't even reveal that they are two different people until the very end of the True Pacifist/Genocide routes.

Frisk and Chara are supposed to look alike. Chara in the 'Once Upon A Time' opening and Asriel's memories are supposed to look identical to Frisk in the present. Differences between the two are their facial expressions, Chara's hair being neater than Frisk's messy hair, Chara's shirt being green with a single tan stripe as opposed to Frisk's blue shirt with dual pink stripes, and Chara's brown pants as opposed to Frisk's blue shorts, and Chara's pale skin and rosy cheeks as opposed to Frisk's ambiguous emoji yellow skin.
