I feel like this game lacks a central thread.

There's fighting the Archon/Remnant stuff, but you can bumrush that stupid fast, and it doesn't really mesh with the "finding a home" theme. You hardly have to interact with most of the game world to beat the "main quest."

Then you have the squadmate loyalty bits which are... there. Not really doing anything.

It doesn't help that there's not really a lot of motivation to go fuck with the kett bases and such. They don't really do anything and your actions against them don't have a very measurable effect on their world prescence.

Havarl eases you in on sidequests and it feels like a slow natural progression.

You go from a few sidequests on Eos to a couple quests on Havarl and then to a lot of quests on Veold.

Jaal is skeptical of you during Havarl but upon completing the scientists objective, he trusts you a bit more and admonishes the two Angara talking about Ryder in the sick room of Veold.

And then there's the Resistance like Do Xeel and those Angara on the Cliffside on Veold being more trusting after you do Havarl's Objective.

We know Shepard was a soldier.

My assumption for the Ryders is as follows:

Scott Ryder:
Soldier (pre-SAM) -> Explorer (post-SAM)
He was basically just an alliance grunt pre-Andromeda.

Sara Ryder:
Engineer (pre-SAM) -> Explorer (post-SAM)
She had some minor military training but seems more oriented towards science/technology.
