When you go through Dark Souls you feel like the world is just there. It's a real place that feels indifferent towards your presence and you're just supposed to buckle up and persevere through it. You're in a living breathing world doing your thing just like many of the NPCs. This level of immersion is rarely seen in games. Even in Souls games.
Dark Souls 3 completely fails to capture this and few hours into the game you start to realize that it's just a bullshit Reddit pandering meme theme park experience. The world does not feel alive at all. It feels like a stunt track built specifically for your character to mess around with and explore. Sure it's jam packed with fun minigame bullshit, references to the actual Souls game and other meme garbage but it has no "soul". It's trash.

I'm desperately looking for something in the game that I can find fun, but I get frustrated because there is no fun to be had. I keep trying to convince myself there's fun in DaS3 because it's a Souls game and I've been wasting hours of my life making character after character looking for that one weapon or one build that's fun. But I can't. I have over 500 hours on this game (PvE only) an still haven't found something I like. I do like the bosses in this game, but it's not enough for me. So I bitch.

I think it's unhealthy and I should just uninstall the game for my mental sake. I can replay and enjoy DS1, but with DS3 I just force myself to play and play and play until I find something fun. I played for 15 hours today and I can't recall any hours of that that I could say was fun outside that 5 minutes I spent fighting Midir.

Once again, here's the eye-ring buff in action for anyone who's curious as to weather or not they're good now. It seems like most of the buff just increased the effects, not the buildup. It took me two R1s, an L2, a weaponart and another R1 to proc the healing ring with sellswords, which makes it basically pointless since my opponent was dead before the last swing anyway. The damage rings took two R1's and an L1 to proc, which still isn't super great but probably worthwhile on the paired UGS or fists or something.

though it's not like the damage matches any of the big meme weapons, which hit like a truck without relying on a timed buffs, and if you only go to 29 dex like I did your cast speed will be too slow for offensive miracles but too fast to make the sage ring worth using, so I'd worry less about maxing it's AR and go for the other options its faith scaling affords you.

Yeah. That pretty much exemplifies a lot of issues i have with the game, namely that it ignores the things DaS2 brought to the table instead of imroving it. You could change gender in DaS2, but you couldn't change your looks, and in DaS3 it's the other way around. It would'v e been such an easy fix.

Initially I tried that, usually by swapping out the Leo ring when I wasnt in combat, but it kinda became a hassle. Now that Greatlance isnt total and utter garbage now though, I could probably sacrifice Leo Ring if I wanted to. I invaded in Irithyll Dungeon, since thats as cancer as the Brume Curse Tower, so I probably wouldnt need to rely on my own damage as much, especially since the seed nerf.

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Sunlight Straight Sword" bullshit that's going on in the DS3 pvp right now. Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.

Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.

Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a straight sword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in DS3. Here is the buffs I propose for katanas:


multiply current AR by around 1.5 for every katana
at least 200 Crit
Able to hit people during iframes
Counts as parry tool in the left hand


Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of Katanas in real life, don't you think?

Also, Leo Ring doesnt even seem all that effective because its used as a 1 shot tool for stabby UGS attacks, and there really isnt that much of an impact using it with Greatlance. I'd probably swap out Leo for a fashionable White Ring, after giving it a bit more thought.

What's a good calculation to turn split AR into combined AR? I know it depends on how much absorption the target has, but wouldn't reducing the elemental AR by an average amount of absorption (like 20%) and then adding it to the physical AR reveal how much "true" AR the weapon has?

Its AR just isnt high enough to make that important of a difference, since I invade with a +6 one. You might get like 40 more damage on a single counter hit, whoopee. Spacing and timing is key anyways so it wont make or break a duel. Invasions in Irithyll Dungeon are usually long drawn out ones anyways, and I only ever kill people after comboing or ambushing them. It just doesnt hold much worth for that build.

Onyx Blade already has split physical and dark damage, adding fire on top of it does make it stronger, but only just since it is now a three-way split damage-wise. It could have just added more dark damage instead, which would have been way better.

At +6 Im not sure, but after looking at Mugen real quick Heavy Greatlance is leading in AR at 40/20 (even though I go 40/16) for most spears that are heavy/refined. The problem is, Leo Ring on one small hit isnt that impressive, and Great Lance has no charged R2, it just defaults to a charge that eats all your stamina and has an initial hit that does shit damage. Fully charging something like a LKLS R2 would be a lot more punishing with Leo Ring than anything a Greatlance could do with it.
I could just be shit with it though. There was a spear anon here not too long ago, but Im not sure if anyone else has some anecdotes to lend to the comparison.
