Well, I love Kaito for generally being a likable character.
His relationships with Saihara, Ouma and Maki are well developed and all have nice chemistry with him, his fear of the occult is funny and cute, his role in Chapter 5 makes him easy to like and respect and he's not forced into the story so he doesn't come off as a plot device.

So it's not that I'm interested in him or I ignore his cliched traits, but I just find his character well done and likable. Not amazingly written but still a nice character.
