It's more than just the music though. Previous bars save for Purgatory had an appropriate atmosphere that felt like it made sense for the area. Chora's Den was the sleazy dive it was suppose to be, Flux felt like the foofy little club for more uppity farts too good to enter such a "slimy" place.

The Citadel bar in ME2 was lackluster but Afterlife made up for it. Purgatory was droll but that was just keeping in tune with the rest of the game. Vortex is just there. You interact with the barkeep thrice and that's it, nobody in the bar does anything or feels alive and if there was music it was forgettable to the point I can't even remember.

Vortex is a shitty little bar officially endorsed by the Nexus.
In that way being lame makes a bit of sense to me, I can see Tann neutering the crap out of this bar.

My problem is with the audio mixing and that bald chick on stage who does nothing but watch the mute people in the bar.

What it needed to feel more alive was not just the audio, not just bits of entertainment (to cringe at) but it also needed members of APEX Force aka, the multiplayer characters, there to talk about their exploits during missions (like the Citadel DLC did)

The MP Characters have their own voices and their own little bios/personalities.

I'd love to have Salarian Infiltrator brag about his performance to other APEX members or Krogan Merc buying everyone a round of Ryncol (that none of them can actually drink) or other things like that.

Even though that would have been extra work, I feel it would be worth it.

Right now it's definitely the worst bar in mass effect and that sucks because I hate Purgatory and the track associated with it.

Mass Effect has always been the series that tickles my autism. It needs to be done a certain way.

There's something really off with your squadmates in this one.

Some are actually fun and you can end up caring about some of them, that's true. But the amount of content and little nuances used to deepen your bonds with them in previous Mass Effects aren't to be found here.

I couldn't imagine getting as emotional over these guys in two games time as I did with the original bunch in ME3.

There's no little quirks like "Wrex, Shepard" or on-going eccentrities like Garrus's calibrations, the closest thing to an on-going theme is how much of a trans-Asari Cora is and Vetra having to look after Sid.

They could've done a better job. Hopefully they give this more thought in the sequel.

Just finished the main game. Well that was... something I guess. The only good Party members were Drak and Vetra. The rest just made me miss how good the people on the previous games were like Zaeed.
