SS and Crit are very close to equal. Det is trash.

The set you use will depend on how much piety you want, but most people I have seen (including myself) use the Alex hat, shire gloves and belt, and Alex boots, and then swap out the Alex/shire pants and chests depending. For right side I think most people use shire ear, proto ultima or Alex neck, shire bracelet or Alex bracelet, then Alex ring and shire or Proto depending on preference. I use the Alex weapon though I don't have a relic.

There are mathematically derived BiS sets in a Reddit post that you can google.

So I'm trying to level a tank so I have one if I need one, plus I tend to find tanks fun in MMO's.

I've got a few levels in each at the moment and I'm having trouble deciding which one I will take to 60. Paladin seems like the easiest of the three to play and particularly to tank as, though I don't imagine that this means they're by any means the best at it.

I mean you need to use it in fights where people will take fatal damage without a shield and you're doing double ast or ast whm. If you're talking about people who use nocturnal the whole time in 4 man dungeons (you can swap to it between pulls and give the tank a shield, all on the move, which is nice) or in trash fights that can be steamrolled by mediocre DPS that don't have any lethal tank or raid damage then yes, those people are dumb.

Some people have fun with it early on. Most people start to really enjoy it once they get to the 40s. Getting to level 20 doesn't take very long, even if you're new, so I don't think you're really spending a lot of time with the game. Maybe a moba or something with instant gratification is more your speed.

You won't be able to access the heavensward jobs because the trial has a level cap (so you can't advance the game to get to the point where you'd unlock them). Outside of the level cap and some social restrictions (e.g. you can't form your own party but may join someone else's, can't add people as friends, etc) you can pretty much do whatever.

You might have a hard time farming some older content unless it drops a mount, but it will be very easy to clear everything. They introduced a reward system for running old stuff, it's like a bingo card and you get stickers. You can get prizes for getting 9 stickers, or 1-3 lines. You can shuffle your stickers around with points, or use a point to get another sticker from an instance you've already run. How do you get these points? By clearing something with a first-timer.

So you can make a pf and say "clear of x with bonus, come get second chance points" and the group will fill pretty quickly usually.

And you've got 2 months until the expansion, which is more than enough time to get caught up.

If you want to do rogue, you'll probably have to start as pugilist (so you can get the Ninja sub-class requirement out of the way) and then hop onto it after you're a little ways in. World is the server you play on. Datacenter (such as Aether) is a cluster of worlds that can all play together. Balmung and Gilgamesh are the most populated. Balmung requires an 18 dollar transfer because its always closed to new characters. If I were you I'd start on the Aether data center, since it contains both Balmung and Gilgamesh. As for which server you want to play on after the trial, that depends more on you. Balmung has a solid RP/ERP community, and Gilga is for the tryhards. Other servers are viable as well if you want neither of these, those two are just the most populated.

We don't know. It happened before the story. Presumably not since primal Bahamut is just absurdly powerful. All of the first brood are incredibly strong, but primal Bahamut...well I shouldn't have to explain this. They used primal Bahamut as a way to nuke 1.0. That should be all the explanation required on it's power level.

Shinryu's power level is odd in this game. Based on all currently established laws regarding primals, it should be about as powerful as Nidhogg. Maybe a bit more. That's not even close to full strength primal Bahamut. So the whole thing in that last bit of story about Shinryu being on par with Bahamut is bullshit of the highest order. Nobody had to die, we could have just killed it like we did Nidhogg.

Although, to be fair, we also had half of Hraesvelgr's strength then. Still, WoL is on par with a god at this point. Shinryu ain't nothin. The only reason they went so hard into the whole "just like bahamut" thing is so they could put the fight with it in 4.0. Just another hook to sell Stormblood. Honestly kind of annoying.
