In one of the trailers for it someone is seen fighting geese who is probably him. So even if it's just in a flashback it is likely that he will be. Also this first season will focus more on the FF1 story then near the end it'll transition more into KoF stuff AFAIK. Lurker here, I hate to be the odd one out but I'm not sure if SNK is able to make a Metal Slug 8 given that the last two games bombed financially. The best way for them to revive the franchise IMO is to reboot it but I'm not sure how given that SNK has a small budget and most of all hasn't taken the steps to make a non-fighter game in the first place.

I don't know man, when reboots are done sometimes they turn out to be pretty shit or they're panned when compared to the originals in general. Plus if they start from the first one and release each separately I'm not sure people will want to pay full price for it. I think it would really convey the feeling of the original sprites, maybe making them a bit bigger would work? Except I don't know how much of a money sink they would be. I can't imagine it would be small since the animation in Metal Slug is pretty top tier. The other anon mentioned MSA, I think using elements from that game would be really cool too. Some of those new characters could really work well as allies/recaptured prisoners or mini bosses.

The spritework in the neo geo Slug games was amazing and despite it being my favorite SNK series I don't think I would pay more than $20 for a new entry if it used the same sprites in this day and age. Still I don't expect a new full fledged Metal Slug from SNK any time soon. It going 2.5D would be a shame unless they pull off some real magic with 3D models, but given SNK's history with 3D (I know they're getting better) it doesn't give me much hope for that.

And I know some of you wanted the next game to be sprited but it's not economically feasible for SNK so the best they can do graphics wise is to embrace 3D models. Yet they can't afford another MS3D in that it's a flop.

I am aware, which is why I mentioned that I wasn't expecting one any time soon. I also agree that some reboots can succeed, but I can't imagine people easily accepting a 2.5D MS. People really shat on XIV, some still do, for going 3D despite the improvements citing the 2D games' "beautiful animations". I don't think they were any better animated than the current game since even the devs mentioned that they tried to keeping the animations 1:1 in comparison to the old games. Personally I wouldn't shit on a 2.5D MS if done well. I would see it as something sad since good 2D in general is on the way out. It's a sad thing, but i guess that's just the way things are. Still if their financial situation gets better I would hope for a new game in the future.

Still I feel that thinking about them churning out new games is a bit soon as it is. If the game's website is any indication they are not even done with KoF XIV. Their mobile division seems to be in full production and development for the arcade version appears to be going well. They seem to be having their hands full as it is. I think what they are doing, putting their mobile division in full force in order to support and prop up their game division is a safe move despite it being somewhat slow as they can't afford huge risks.

There are/were rumors of a new SS, but oda pretty much shot them down long ago saying that they were probably fake which implies that they either are indeed fake or he isn't aware of it. If there were another big project like that I think he would be aware of it.

They did mention that they are doing a collaboration with the developers who made world war tons. I think their name was studio roquovan or something like that. That game looks pretty cartoony. Who knows what that collaboration might be in the end. Maybe they're lending them some MS characters or perhaps they can learn something from them.

The whole 2D being smaller thing is why I believe SNK needs a full 3D direction but again it has to be done well.

Of course I am aware that SNK doesn't have much to start with aside from supporting KOF IV and the mobile games. Yet they did announce that they will show off more titles this year and they have shown off a few so far, we'll just have to see what E3 and TGS bring us from SNK's table.

And I did read about them teaming up with the devs behind World War Toons. Their collaboration could lead to exciting possibilities, hopefully something MS related; though it might lead to simply KOF characters in WWT, even though their civilian nature would clash with the war themed nature of the game.

So I saw that 14 got a big patch and decided to finally get it, first KOF game in years. After practicing a bit I jumped online, and upon seeing that the only room in my region was full I tried ranked.

Got matched with some dude with 3 dlc characters, leading with Whip. Although it was a 4 bar connection he was super laggy and bodied me pretty badly.

Serious answer, because CVS2 was a unique game that doesn't really have a modern equivalent. The Capcom style buttons and normals combined with the KOF jumps and different movement options made for some really unique neutral that you won't really find in any other game. I know a lot of SNK fans are bitter over how bad the SNK characters are, but that doesn't mean the game system is bad.

That being said I don't want CVS3 because I don't trust modern Capcom.

It got decent reviews at the time and personally I like it. Still I do like Kizuna encounter a bit more since it feels more fluid. What Savage reign has that Kizuna Encounter doesn't is the ability to jump into the backgrounds (kind makes sense since it's in the same timeline as the FFgames), you can hang from some of them. From what I've experienced the game is also a bit tougher than its sequel, but it could just be me since I'm not really good at fighting games in general. Kizuna encounter is tons of fun too.

Blame the timeline fuckery that SNK did in order so that FF and AoF characters could fight each other with the inception of 94. Also, let's be honest, it's the same thing really. He'd still have gotten his ass kicked the same amount of times by the same people. Only difference is that in AoF and FF it took over a longer span of time. Sure he's a badass and pretty ruthless, but he's not the unstoppable powerhouse that some people make him out to be. He does get memed a lot. This is not to say that he isn't strong as fuck, Ryo and Terry were just stronger. Those two are comparable in strength to the KoF protags and at times hinted that they're even better. Only reason they didn't take care of shit like Orochi was because they don't have muh special fire. Even KoF acknowledges that Ryo has the strongest punches or something like that. If they were both relatively young when they beat him (which they were/are in both timelines) it makes sense that they would beat him in subsequent encounters when they have more experience not?
