Well, RB1 is the better starting point. It introduces the characters and fleshes them out a bit. Though it is not connected to the rest of the games in the series.

RB1 is also good if you want to see how you'll like RB2 and RB3 (they're pretty much the same game but with minor differences).

Should you choose to go further into the series, do not be fooled by the title. RB2 is NOT a sequel to RB1. RB1 is it's own thing. The main story starts from RB2 onward (RB3 is a sequel to RB2)

Alternatively, you could jump straight into V-II since it gives the more important bits about RB2 and 3.

However, starting from here may prevent you from enjoying the older titles, so that's why I'd say RB1 is the better starting point.

Not quite, transforming into the goddess would grant you the power to fly, so if you have somewhere you need to be you could just transform into them. If there was some sort of emergency you could also transform for fighting, since you both have a shared body, you wouldn't be forcing any more pain then they'd feel.
It would be hilarious to see a random guy in public transform into Iris/Orange Heart. Seeing people's reactions would also be great. "What the fuck, he just transformed into a girl!"

I'm pretty sure you're just faking being dumb, but in case you aren't : a reboot means restarting from the beginning, a remake means redoing the same thing.
RB2 and mk2 are reboots because it completely change the relations between the neps, the world's shape, the villains, pretty much everything.
RB1 and RB2 are remake because they're based on HDN and mk2, with only minor changes. The story between RB1 and HDN is pretty similar, while the story between RB1 and RB2 is totally different.

This is why HDN/RB1 is usually set in a different dimension than mk2/RB2.

Plus CH wanted to shove Nepgear in the playable protagonist slot to have a more serious story.

Get used to stupidity, because CH is pretty terrible at writing characters.
HDN had a nice plot that mixed silliness and dark stuff, but that is a bit unbalanced (you go from purges and slaughters to a Tetris reference).
RB1 was made by another company, so the plot is different and more light-hearted.

Mk2 tries to stick to the jRPG standard by having your main character be an indecisive, whiny scrub that slowly git gud and learns that the power of friendship is awesome and makes you strong, while having the feared Conquest.
RB2 is the same, but adds a few endings to make people happy and try to fix Conquest.

Victory/RB3 use dimensional stuff to try to emulate HDN, where the neps started by hating each others. It failed, and the neps just come off as being giant bitches.

VII is the best so far, the neps are more or less rivals, but are still ready to cooperate against the bad guys.

For our newfriend here, I'm going to spoil the main games.
HDN : long ago, in a distant world, I, Arfoire, the Mistress of Everything, grew tired of ruling. But then foolish, unnamed heroes came to me, beat the crap out of me, and upon listening to Histoire, I gave up my powers and rewrote the world, while she was creating four kids to replace me. But after a while, I changed my mind, manipulated my kids into fighting each others for dominance, and tried to reclaim my throne as the one true goddess, while my daughters were beating the crap out of each others and purging heretics.

RB1 : same thing except Arfoire was one of the heroes who took down the Goddess and she took care of the neps while they grew up. She's also hot as fuck once redeemed. And the neps didn't purge heretics through torture, fire and mutilation. And she can take the neps' appearance.

A few years later, Neptune's friends infiltrate the Graveyard to free the CPUs, and restore Gamindustri.

RB2 : same thing except you get bonus endings.

So apparently people are mad that the VR game is a remake of V-II? I thought it was just going to be an ultra-short tech demo except with a full retail price, having an actual game with it is nice to hear. Plus, it gives the Gold Third and Umio another chance in the spotlight, there's gonna be new events and more post-game stuff, and I'm interested to see how the events of V-II are interpreted through a first person view.
