I need your assistance, /dsg/.

I'm doing an autistic posterboy build for each of the Dark Souls trilogy. At the moment I'm trying to plan my Dark Souls II character.

Problem is, there's no real definitive weapon/shield that the Bearer of the Curse uses for me to build on. Do I go with just a longsword? Do I go Longsword + Winged Spear, do I go Dragonslayer's Axe + Golden Wing Shield, do I go with the Pursuer's Greatsword?

You can just do 60 int with the Court Staff and do more damage than a 40/40 faith/int build with Izalith. That Izalith, dark sorc option is for Pyromancer builds if they wanna switch it up. Otherwise dark sorcs do high as fuck damage just going to 60 int and using a good staff. Crystal staff only does the most damage so long as you're constantly using it's weapon art self buff. Figured I'd point that out since people don't seem to know that.

Those are such small factors that only apply to people not paying any sort of attention. I'm not saying you're wrong it's just that in my mind it's too easy to do these side quests that I can't comprehend failing it.

I will say 1 way I have failed it that I'll tell you about is if you save seigward, send Greirat as soon as you get to Irithyll BUT you decide to head down to Irithyll dungeon before you want to keep going to Pontiff. By entering the dungeon, you force Seigward to be in that location instead of the kitchen and Greirat dies that way.

In AoA you have the Snowfield and Millwood Village, then Corvian Settlement, and then half an area in the Snowy Mountain Pass (that shit was far too spread out and aggravating for me to consider a true area by itself). Part of the problem with that is, how the fuck would you know that Siegward was in the well? By the time you get Patches to show up, you're already 95% done with the Cathedral, and you have a clear path to Deacons before you even have the setup to make him show up. So there's no reason to go back to Cleansing Chapel and walk near the well to find out that he's stuck in there.

Getting Patches himself to show up is also missable, because you could grind for the Tower Key early on and loot the tower well before reaching the Cathedral. And with the tower cleared, there's no reason to go up there again and trigger Patches' appearance in Firelink. Not to mention that if you explore Cathedral in a different order (climbing up to the rafters before exploring the area right before Deacons), he won't show up there at all.

Bosses in souls games are identified by their healthbar. It's why dual sancuary guardian, ash lake hydra, darkroot hydra, and etc aren't considered bosses in all boss runs.
They have separate health bars so they are different bosses. You don't have to like that distinction but it's what we've been going off of since DaS and it doesn't change the fact that friede is 3 bosses.

Bosses are based off of getting their souls, getting embered after beating them, and if they have the red bossbar at the bottom. Phases dont count. If I made a boss with 10 hps, but 100 phases with new bars it would still be 1 boss fight as long as I got all the souls in the end and embered. Therefore friede is 1 boss.

No no, what I think you're looking at still is what the Aldrich invader can be below the host.

I'm going to use sl60 as my example again considering that's usually what people are around by the time they get to Pontiff. Might be a little lower or higher, depends on what you do with your souls but that's not what we're here for.

So I'm sl60 going through the area. If an Aldrich invades me the highest level they can be is 66 because that equation applies to ME, not them. The lowest level that Aldrich could be is 28. (60 - 20 - 12). Invading has been like this since DaS1 where the host is set up to be at a level advantage because invaders are forcing themselves into your world and this area especially is meant for multiple people to come in and stomp you out.

Inaders themselves aren't "buffed" it's that now, mechanically speaking, they have a bit less working against them. Hosts can't spam summon as often since summoning whites is on cooldown (didn't say anything about sunbros so they could theoretically spam those instead to counter this) and now they can't rely on seeds for as long since seeds have a shorter effect.
