For steam users- copy the creamAPI folder contents into your main stellaris folder- overwrite. Ignore everything else. Don't touch anything in the INI. Copy all the dlc folders into your stellaris dlc folder. You're done.

Why? Just why. Imagine how much better it would be if each planet had a unique random generated set of biomes to live in. Desert planets would be mostly inhospitable desert along the equator, with arid and savana regions closer to the poles. Every planet that's habitable should have ice and tundra zones near the poles, along with ocean tiles. Especially wet planets would be dotted with a few islands as per normal, but may have some nice tropical swamplands. This way different races would be drawn to different parts of this planet, there would be more decisions available to the player. Gaia worlds could remain mostly the same, but give a few planets a single Gaia tile or two, making them feel like a special island or well balanced valley of pure bliss among the alien world.

Replace Continental with Temperate and you got yourself all the tiles you need. Why the fuck didn't they do this?

The entire point of my post was to show how it WASN'T that much more work! The entire game already has all the assets needed.

Replace oceans with entirely water based ocean tiles. You could therefore have ocean/aquatic races with less issue. Islands are not part of the tileset, it's just the random bits of land on ocean-majority planets are the isalnds.

I just really hate how every space game has to have single biome planet and they fucknig ALWAYS have a retarded 'continental' or 'earth like' world biomes for their obligatory human race. It's such a cop out. Every fucking planet with liquid water on it will have earth-like biomes based on elevation, mountain ranges, and so on. It's a simple function of the fucking weather.

I'm sure you could do it. Require colonization to happen within your borders, so Outposts are more important. Make a special project to prep the planet with some of your species sperm or whatever in the oceans so you can study it and rightfully inoculate your population that will live there against any potential cellular viruses. You get to shoot up your Unity tree but you will have to spill out eventually, there's no way to get enough minerals to out produce a wide empire no matter how technologically advance you are. Tech-wise, you will benefit for 90% of the game by expansions but if you got lucky with a ton of good anomalies that drop shit ton of tech, you can turtle and grow tall for the whole game.

It can vary wildly, because it's not so much an absolute year as it is the galactic situation, which will evolve differently based on chance, planet density, number of players, etc.

With that being said, early game maybe ends when you reach your first energy slump, maybe 2260.
Midgame lasts until you get big enough to be in post-scarcity economics, maybe 2400.
Lategame is the rest.

Yeah, I know. Same as barbarians in Civ 6. While in 5 they were passive, they are much more aggressive in 6 and without an army to quell them they can overrun you easily. It's not the same in Stellaris. You deal with the pirates, that's it - they're gone for good. You no longer need an army, unless you wanna conquer or are next to some Purifier douche in which case you'd have an army anyway.

Wormholes.
Best range, fastest travel time (instant), ignores closed borders and doesn't contribute to your ships energy costs.
The only downsides are having to build wormhole stations, the possibility of them being destroyed and wormhole generation rate taking longer the larger your fleet is.
By the time your fleet is large enough for wormhole generation rate to become an actual problem you should have access to Jump Drive technology though.

Although recently a fed buddy of mine started a war that requested a fallen empire to cede me a few systems.

Aside from that you can "liberate" planets, they adopt your ethics and usually ask to become your protectorate/vassal that you can integrate after a while. Which takes longer and uses up influence, although with less unrest among the pops.

They're never going to fix mid- and late game drag, are they? Even more flavor events would be better, stuff like AI empires or specific leaders causing randomized issues leading into quests and so on. I'm playing a hivemind, went with talented and there are similar +1's in the ethics or traditions (both iirc), got mad leader skills, level 5 admiral which is +25% fire rate (without having to be the 8% addition).

I've also got supremacy fully done, which gives +15% to fire rate.

There's also a harmony traditon which gives you bonus when in a defensive war.

And building at a spaceport with a fleet command.

I think my fleet is up near 70% additional fire rate at the moment.

Just finished a war, took out multiple enemy fleets (thankfully they haven't formed a federation like the last 50 games I've played) so I should be safe for a while while they rebuild. Took one planet and ate the guys.

So after doing the robot ascendancy path I now think it's kinda mediocre. It's strengths are immortal leaders and 100% habitability on all worlds, but spreading your immortal pops is a pain in the ass due to no migration and having to manually build pops on your worlds which build at a fixed rate that cannot be sped up. Main reason I got bit in the ass though is because I was a xenophobe empire, so I don't have any migration treaties so as to keep my factions happy. I'm thinking if you were a xenophile or egalitarian empire it would probably go better since you could still easily populate worlds via migration treaties.

Would be nice to see some kind of auto-build mechanic for synthetic pops though, and maybe some kind of tech that speeds up robot pop build times.

Why not just use kinetic artillery? They outrange everything and will smash through shields very fast on cruisers and battleships, everything else will die too fast to be relevant. I only use corvettes to hunt down smaller enemy fleets that are comprised of just a battleship or just a cruiser, since they tend to have mostly large weapons they can't hit my super evasive Corvettes for shit. I would also like to see the genetic evolution line be able to build "Queens" like from the Prethoryn Queen event (Including growing their own fleets with no resource expense), but with a unique model to indicate they aren't just Prethoryns and you can field fleets of them. I don't want to see the evolutions go full Endgame Crisis level of buff, but like Psionics get a taste of it, I think the other evolutions should too.

This right here, I've dreamed of a game (in any genre) that keeps track of who "knows" about the player's deeds.

E.g. In a Fallout/Skyrim open-world game, if you go around murdering people in the middle of nowhere, why should you get a bad reputation? The governments in those worlds are barely functioning, everything is Innawoods, what entity is tracking your misdeeds??

Same applies to 4X, if you meet and destroy your neighbors when the other Civs have barely met those neighbors, what's making them go, "Yeah, Player TOTALLY murdered his neighbors, there was no way they failed by themselves!" Civilization 5 kinda took steps to remedy this but they still penalize you for it.

I'd like to see a 4X game with more emphasis on the political side of things, where you can convince others that wars were justified.

Yeah it way to easy to generate Unity, and there's too few traditions, hell the fact that there's 8 Ascension slots means they plan on you being able to fill out all the tradition trees in one game. I think there needs to be more traditions, maybe twice as many, and that some should be locked based on ethos/civics, or each tradition tree should be longer.

Mechanist is bad early game. 4 robots is around 3 energy per turn, bringing your base starting income to 0. Makes colonizing that much harder.

Syncretic, however, allows your main race to forgo the necessity of the Strong traits, due to the slave race having it. Means you have what makes robots good (+%minerals) without the extra upkeep cost.

Not unless you really really want to, and you have nothing better to do. None of the megastructures except habitats are really viable.

Ringworld frame costs 20k materials. Then you need to spend an additional 80k materials to develop the four sections. So 100k materials for 100 squares. And you pretty much have to get the ascension perk that lets you build megastructures faster and cheaper, otherwise it will take forever to build. Also, you can't build any other megastructures while you build the ringworld, and you can't build the segments at the same time.
In contrast, a habitat costs 5k materials for 12 or so squares. And you can build multiple habitats at the same time. The buildings on a habitat aren't as efficient as those that you can build on the ringworld, but your end product is far more efficient.

Fallen/Awakened empire have Titan class ships which unpleasant to fight, kept sending my fleets in to get smashed, but slowly whittled down about 400k worth of enemy fleet power by drowning them in torpedo corvettes and plasma cruisers backed up by a core of 40 megacanon&ballistic artillery battleships.

Was essentially fighting both enemy empires at once, but won.
